No, except pc as server host in a future update.
The problem is with that option is that it is on a pc. If we were to use a pc as a server host then why would we even play the console version of the game? There would be no point since you could play and host on a pc.
Because not everyone would like to play on pc. They had choose to play only on consoles, like me. I'm not interested to buy expensive hardware again and again to be up to date and have trouble with configs or drivers. Then I more likely to enjoy the comfort of a console.
Certain games have the option to host servers directly on a console or a place to go to from the console which would work better in this case if possible since it would make it easier for people on console to host servers without the requirement of a household pc to be able to host them.
Yeah I understand you, I'm not happy with that. For me it's shit, because I want easy play with friends and host a private game like so many other multiplayer games. I would accept, that would be limited to 4 players on consoles, if this would be possible. But I believe, that's not gonna happen. Currently I have no idea, how to set up a pc for hosting.
Considering the popularity the game is gaining on console while also factoring in the fact the developers listen to the community, the chances of getting the ability to host locally, host a server on console or have something to help set on up on it, or both is very high. We will have to wait and see.

How do I add Shift, ctrl, hold and alt modifiers in Chimera config?
If they add crossplay(with an option in the menu to turn it off if someone wanted to of course) I could see a server hosting feature that is compatible with all devices since the servers would be available on all if crossplay was added. I do know of a few games that do it and it does work very well so I do have an slight idea of how it would end up looking like if they did it that way.
We will see... at current state, scenarios or the workshop makes no sense on consoles, when you cannot enjoy it with your friends. No one want to play a milsim multiplayer shooter alone, only if a single player campaign would implemented.

so it's true from what I've heard that some people have a hard time even playing for 20 minutes without getting disconnected?
some people can't play at all, some can play for hours
theres many variables and probably a multitude of different bugs
what i do know for sure is that bandwidth requirements for this game right now are x5-50 more than any other video game on the market. if you have low bandwidth internet connection, or if your server has low bandwidth, the problems will amplify
we were completely unable to play with ~10 players on a server with 100mbps connection, but once we went to a 1000mbps connection we played with ~15 players and 100 bots for a few hours without issues
its just that i highly doubt any of the public/official servers are on 1000mbps, thats not sustainable lol, the company providing these servers would either go bankrupt or have to charge x50 more money for those servers

yeah fuel either doesn't deplete or depletes really slowly (more realistic then in A3 where your fuel tank is just leaking fuel)

Did you mess with any startup paramters? Sounds like your pc cant write to default location.

This is what I was afraid of. Why can't I have a private server with my friends so we can play the game. As it stands now, you can only play C&H gametypes that are on a revolving clock. This isn't fun. I bought this on console with the intent to Role-play a Military Simiulator with my friends!!!

I went into scenarios and picked "conflict" 64 players and loaded into the game. Once in I cannot invite anyone to join.
Not seeing anyone mentioning invisible players. Maybe I haven’t read back far enough. Every game today has had an invisible player that’s unkillable taking the bases.
Not scenarios... Play tab, then you can choose between conflict, game master and tutorial. On conflict tab, click x for server browser. Choose one and invite your friends

I would say the meta itself is less casual then Arma 3. Due to lack of no map markers, requiring proper radio use, navigation, etc.
But overall skill level is still pretty low as everybody is learning said things. So now is a great time to jump into it.

the roadmap for reforger is to fix the server/connection bugs and add some content once per quarter. tracker vehicles, helicopters, not much else is known
Not to be a hater, but personally I hope there will be a time jump, cause after all that time playing with CW era stuff, a change would be very nice.
You got Humvees, BTRs and everything, that could easily be transferred to it if it was 10-20 years later
For me it's a good era. Don't need future gadgets or guns like other modern shooters (Battlefield, Call of Duty, etc.). Arma is boots on the ground.

It's true that the stock game needs to support some baseline of technology for modding
E.g. if the stock game had no thermals, then every modder who wanted to add thermals would need to mod in all the textures and thermal behaviors (things heating up; cooling down) in the game world
We'd end up with 10 different incompatible implementations with varying levels of realism and detail

i would assume arma 4 would be on consoles, reforger is like the test of armas new engine, allowing the community to already build a portfolio of mods and using it to iron out a lot of bugs beforehand, so since reforger is on concole then arma 4 should be too

Yeah I was talking about A4 specifically, Reforger seems to be intended to have a much narrower scope so supporting mods for every possible setting isn't exactly high priority

There is a toilet mechanic, the flush can be heard by enemy and ally players, uncertain if enemy ai hear it

the toilet has special properties when flushed, rats emerge from the drains to eat enemy players, and friendly players, although they seem to recognize who freed them, so the player who flushed the toilet is safe

So there is empty servers for those ones? I've downloaded some operations and there's never any servers up and I can't create one (at least idk how to) also I play on xbox don't know if its different (server wise) on pc.

I do it for DCS (lowering cockpit texture resolutions) and it looks MUCH better, while also loading and performing better than running on lower texture graphic settings (that just use lower mipmaps)

texture settings just uses lower mipmaps afaik. Having lower texture sizes while having the texture graphics quality at high looks much better and performs better
it also avoids stuff like the ground looking like mud, but something like a sandbag still having really high detail for no reason

@errant fulcrum There are plenty of servers and players but currently there are disconnection issues that everyone is experiencing. Hopefully it will be fixed in the coming patches but as of right now I'd keep an eye on #socials and #announcements before buying

It is not guaranteed that mods from Reforger will work in Arma 4, out of the box.
On the contrary, I want to be able to deprecate API and refactor systems.
All changes should be well documented, conversion would be still thousand times easier than now, from A3

How likely are we to get / How feasible would to be to make a mod that makes arsenals a bit more like arma 3, and removes the need to search through unsorted pages?

What is the official Bohemia claim on multithreading improvement for Enfusion vs RV4? I’m currently finding it to be worse in my testing. Don’t get me wrong, GPU usage is definitely improved, but CPU usage is still apparently limited by the same CPU thread C2T1 as in RV4

Has Bohemia made any claims that Enfusions multithreading performance is superior to Real Virtuality?
I found this quote: “Enfusion uses up-to-date rendering tech and multi-threading wherever possible.” Apparently AI must not be one of the “wherever possible” features, as AI heavy scenarios still only appear to be limited by a single core. Any ideas why something as core to the game as AI can’t be multithreaded?
Scripting-based stuff is confined to one thread, and for now that includes AI
A dev mentioned a while back that if necessary they will move the AI logic over to native code, at which point it could be threaded

I'm guessing that they've designed the engine around thread safety for the sake of future-proofing, and have some existing threading working as a proof of concept and for core systems, but probably haven't gone balls to the wall on threading yet since threading is a pretty arduous process and you don't want to be trying to thread tasks that haven't been pretty well finished
Threading adds a big pile of complexity to the implementation so you don't want to spend time threading and testing (and god forbid, debugging your threaded code) only to realize that you need to change everything to support a new feature
I'm sure it will improve over time as the engine stabilizes, especially in A4

Technically there isn't really such a thing as an engine limitation when you're using an in-house engine, it's just that RV was such an old codebase that it becomes infeasible to modify it too deeply

It's not like one problem which we can just remove and everything works. It's complicated system of systems, where multitude of issues can happen. They all lead to disconnection.
We fixed one of biggest problem with server going crazy with network transfer. Now connecting to servers should be a lot better. Also, less kicks when server chokes because of other people connecting.
Still, its not fully fixed, kicks still happen.

Threading a game necessarily involves dealing with shared state though, because you're operating on a single set of data that is touched by multiple systems in sequence. It's definitely somewhat arduous in my experience. Generally you care quite a bit about the update order of your systems, so unless you are ok being limited to threads only operating within a single system at once, you need to figure out which systems read/write which data and build a graph that describes which systems are safe to execute in parallel and insert fences to enforce it.
So yeah you're still achieving mutual exclusion by avoiding actively shared state, but that process is nontrivial on its own, especially if you want the system to be robust enough to not break when you have to reshuffle how the update logic executes. Rendering is about the only thing that's not very difficult to truly run asynchronously, as long as you're double buffering your rendering state
Agreed. An excellent example is Unity: You CANT share any thing that is a game object into another thread because it's inherently not thread-safe and you have to collect data ABOUT a game object to hand to a thread to do operations that you then pull back out and apply to said-game object.
Almost every game has a main thread and render thread, and those two VERY often have to share data along with any other support threads for things like AI management and whatnot which of course means shared state.
Avoiding shared state is one sure way to make the system robust.
As of shared state, the answer was - and is - "it depends on the architecture". It is true ultimately game gravitates toward shared state due to the changes affecting the world, but those updates don't have to always synchronize
Otherwise you'll be locked onto a game that depends on 2 cores with 20 GHz, which obviously doesn't happen.

That's true but the fact that this is all so situation-dependent is part of what I'm talking about being difficult
I find it matters even more than on other applications
Generally a particular application can be slapped with a particular threading scheme that works reasonably well even if things change somewhat, because the overall work done by the application is similar
But in games all bets are off, because the game has many heterogeneous behaviors and new ones may be added over time and whatnot
Games always seem deceptively simple because they just sort of converge towards the behaviors of real life, but from a software development perspective they're like 100 interconnected applications mushed into one that all have to communicate in a way that doesn't turn into absolute spaghetti
So it's like the worst of both worlds, not only do you have a bunch of heterogeneous behaviors to thread, but the separate pieces aren't even independent of each other
I don't know how Lumberyard handles things and clearly all the big AAA games run on highly optimized infrastructure since they have such good resource utilization but it's still not an easy task, especially for a small company building an engine that's composed of a lot of new pieces
I'm not exactly sure about this part either, maybe they'll handle it like python extensions where you write chunks in native code but then link them together at the script level, and the more you pull entirely into the native code, the better your performance. Although that only lets you parallelize within nodes, again.

tbh the AT systems we have now are good enough but i would love to see the dragon in game, and it is in the timeframe of AR, and it was a relatively famous AT launcher so i'd imagine they would make it

Ive experience more game crashes then server kicks. Very annoying when you get kicked and try and join back before your spot is taken, but your game crashes and no more free slots.

tanks dont have the best situational awareness, and most people using them wouldnt be too focused on checking surroundings so it wouldnt be too hard to sneak up on a tank without any infantry support

i never said anything about a tank battalion, i said the AT we have in game is more than a match for a tanks side armor, most people on official servers will be lone wolfing most of the time (atleast in my experience with official servers)

Got a random question cause I seen two different mods in the workshop both having helmets with NVG's attached to them. Now I'm on the Xbox and download these mods how do I use them. I can't log onto the console at this time cause I'm at work to get these mods names but I do know one is a Mitch helmet and the other is a Fast Bump helmet. Anyone tried these mods if they recognize what I'm talking about? Like I said it's in the workshop in game, not the steam workshop.

Right now, you can only use the mods in Game Master. For NVGs, I believe you need to spawn the NVG and have the character pick up the NVGs.

Just all research I found was just streamers talking about mods which is cool but certain small features I was surprised wasn't in like the medic role

I'm patient, even as the game sits im happy with it, just the medic part had me mostly just confused. I just Carry extra bandages. But been wanting to build some mission stuff that I can add onto later which is why I was curious what future content I could use for the mission since I want to make a red dawn style campaign
Some mods work in conflict mode when in a non-multiplayer game (unable to invite friends type). The two NVG Helmet mods only work in Game Master due to being in the arsenal crate. Couldn't figure out what the keybindings were and in the settings did not display what the bindings were (Xbox). Most likely they were for aesthetic purposes and probably has no coding for low light illuminations. Maybe someday someone will come out with a mod that will be functional NVG's or perhaps Dev's will release a crude version of NVG's for the time period. 🤔
I'm wondering (for any lurking bohemia devs) if radios will have more personal integration within the character model (or even first person animations). I'm making a radio right now and I'm not even sure I need to do some details but if a character can hold it personally I might need to.

its map specific, but the ones ive seen have an option on an ammo box to set it. the ability has to be programmed into the mission

no not really and no not yet. a very very select few have few problems. most people seem to get 5-15 minutes of play at a time, with many also often getting less than 5 minutes between disconnect. Can't remcommend buying right now.

Idk, all I can say is did you check your resolution. I'm not a huge graphics guy but I know me res was off the first time, but after I fixed it was just as sharp as any other game.

As a 7-year-old player of arma3, I would like to ask, will there be more options for the action system in the future?
Because I found that in reforger, the action system is simplified and many of the tactical moves in AA3 are not available
And more importantly, will we get better editors in the future? (like AA3's Eden) and will I get Arsenal similar to AA3
As you can see, the in-game arsenal is not as easy to use as AA3, I know it might take some time to implement this in the new engine, but is it possible?

But in general, AR is still in Early Access and is constantly being developed. Some of the features you talk about will (probably) be improved as time goes on, some could be introduced, but some could also not be present in AR but will only be added in A4. You are asking a lot of question that have been asked before, but most of the time the answer is "we are working on it", or "no comment".

better off not using them at all or i miss out on some servers that actually should show up....
After some further testing I found that Coverage was actually working properly, but other compartments were applying coverage as well. So for example the UAZ has a base coverage compartment param and each slot compartment also had params effecting the coverage.
For UAZ if you look in SlotManagerComponent and look at the slot mappers you will see coverage for each window. this effects the overall dampening. Base coverage is the default amount of coverage if that makes sense

I have an interesting question. Will cities, towns or grids for that matter have their own power grid or source that can be taken out/repaired etc. Like assaulting a town but nearby is a electricity sub station we could go and flick a switch to turn off the surrounding area of lights

They’re pretty much the same thing except you can spawn on people who have long range radios in conflict mode, and the distance before your voice sounds like garbage to people is higher on a long range.
I slap one on to use for hosting game master missions as well so I can hear the players and adjust things based on what they’re saying

I think it goes back to the first iteration of "Arma" after Operation Flashpoint. Arma comes from "Armed Assault" which was the game that came directly after Operation Flashpoint after codemasters and BI severed connections and the acronym used back then was in fact ArmA (because it was for 2 words but the R and M were of a smaller font so people put ArmA instead).
You then had ArmA 2 and ArmA3 which would be the AA2 and AA3 since "Arma" technically is 2 words which technically gets 2 letters.

Well thank you for that, im just happy to see all the cool stuff modders are already making with the tools they have now. It really baffles me the rate at which new mods are released. with the new animation editor i think modders can actually create any kind of animation they want to have. So there is more flexibility now then in A3
Recall that the A3 even has only one reload animation
and that animation was used for every reload ^^
The best reload animations I've come across are in Niarms and the CDLC
and RHS, but RHS's machine gun reload animation is not well done
I didn't see a good PK machine gun reload animation until the DLC of Cold War Germany came out
Until now, many mods for A3 as well as CLDC's machine gun sights were not adjustable

We lost Dead zone type free aim
This is what saddens me the most
We now have to keep the gun in the center of the screen all the time like a mainstream shooter

As much as I love the arma series and I've been playing since the beginning - dead zone aiming was kinda meh always.. It did not provide nothing at least for me...
But it is undeniable that this is indeed a unique way of aiming, isn't it? and allows you to do some subtle actions

it does add an interesting slight feeling of being in control of your arms in a way that you don't usually get in an fps. but really it's not worth re-implementing. it'd be especially useless and kind of frustrating without a crosshair

You know, in the old arma, when using the aiming dead zone, I could tell where my bullet would hit by the direction the muzzle was pointing.

Of course, but that is still how the game works - bullets go where muzzle points. It is just that muzzle and camera are working together instead of being independent.
