yes it was complex matter
either way its not the same issue as mod ripping a star wars game
exactly
Definitely not still waiting to hear back from Valve ;_;
Was that obi wan situation about the purge trooper helmets?
BI have no obligation to keep anything up on their workshop at all
Not just exclusive to SW mods
about the Fallout thing. why not just make your own post apocalyptic theme content.
it give you more creative freedom.
You’d think people would do that….when you can just rip everything instead
Boggles the mind why idiots resort to ripping
Does arma have any titanfall mods?
Not that I know of, and if they exist they would be removed from the Workshop for legal reasons.
Titanfall falls under Respawn/EA, and they don't like having their IP/Trademarks being used in other games.
Am I allowed to use TOH assets in a mod?
Yeah ,sure
The contents from the Take On Helicopter Data Pack can be used within the Arma series, the rest not
At this point, is there any blacklisted mod that would grant an immediate workshop ban?
why, you suddenly want to upload a Star Wars × Star Trek × Fallout × Starship Troopers mod?
LOL, just wondering, since the removal of the Fallout + Star Wars stuff there have been increasingly more reuploads, such as this mod which uses "binary" text to hide itself as Aftermath
how we work is:
known rips get taken down on sight.
a repeating offender (uploader) will see its upload permission removed on the Arma 3 Workshop.
subscribers don't risk the hammer.
Reuploaders do risk their workshop rights.
So does that count for reuploaders that do it over different points in time, or can that also apply to reuploaders which do multiple reuploads at once? For instance, I have these 2 guys which just got struck by DMCAs from our team (pending removal) and both have reuploaded multiple items for TFL, FLB, TFC, etc etc. All mods that are well known for using ripped content (taken from USP, RHS, Tier1, COD, Dayz, etc) and have been taken down countless times before.

that's for @pliant oar to judge
man imagine naming your kid unknown
I'm more concerned about someone naming their kid guilhermetdrj
weak bait
i find it interesting how you said that the majority of the star wars mods allow 3d texturing
when in reality, it is actually only one.
furthering my theory that you are just salty against an entire genre of arma groups because you were banned from one
how does that have any reference to what i am talking about?
3AS, JLTS and a few others will literally target groups that take their 3d models and texture them 🤣
your genre is extremely toxic
a leader of a group who took their 3d models and tried to texture them then perhaps
you are acting like only Star Wars players are toxic, when it has as much toxic elements as other communities if any
the players are not the problem, it's the so called mod creators who ripped content and basically messed it up for everyone
although because those mods get removed on a regular basis the players also get toxic towards BI for no reason
Nah, starsimers are on par with lifers when it comes to their behaviour
Not same as other parts of the community & not related to mods, deleted or not
Esp since arma isn't the only place with a cesspools of starsimers and people alike))
Almost the entire arma community is toxic then if we're considering tiny subsets of them
Like cmon there's people who have had to specify that they dont want units which allow slurs and will toot them off every 30 seconds when searching for them
Just off the basis of a handful of units which they've seen examples from and extrapolated that to all units in that genre
Anyway this isn't related to IP rights
never stopped huh?
The entire arma community isn't toxic. It's just starsim who push off their toxic behavioral shit like drama onto other communities, Starsim is also incredibly toxic and nepotistic as fuck. Then you have communities outside of starsim who treat everyone equally, and rewards skill, and knowledge on playing the game, instead of bitching about groups of people being "Too OP" or way more skilled than others.
And even in this case, there are only a handful of units in each community who'll do this, but they'll usually be berated for it, and not supported as much by the community.
Also, this bitching about Starsim breaking IP law wouldn't be a big deal if you guys ultilized more of the old EU designs and such, and didn't overly rely on the NU designs, in which disney is profiting a lot from
Not saying that's right, but it's way more in a gray zone, as Disney isn't usually ones to touch old EU content
Without them themselves having to jump through loops and such to not legitimize the old EU content, while dealing with it
Again, Not condoning or Condemning this, but like, that would alleviate a lot more of the stress and such.
all starwars content is under ip disney holds
But if my mod has only custom assets and not ripped, why I gotta worry
True, idk why EU would even be special lol, like that's going to do something
But I generally don't see the problem, if my mod has no ripped assets. Why can't it be on the workshop, Disney isn't going after ARMA they'd be going after me. Even then my work isn't against Disneys TOS
Galactic Contention exists, probably, if not the biggest Star Wars mod out, has yet to see any action from Disney, seeing as it's all over YouTuber and multiple other platforms and has been out for years. What makes Arma special?
This isn't true in the slightest
Because Legends is slowly being brought into canon and fan remakes of games that ARE EU, have been shut down. Which is understandable, but still doesn't negate the fact that if it's EU or Canon. It doesn't change the fact that all are subject to being terminated. Alot of Legends material has stuffed linked to Canon, Empire for example.
Then get past it, and cut your losses. Either or, arma wasn't ever built on starsim, it was built off of other projects, and complaining about ip law like this for 2 weeks is annoying multiple others in the arma community.
Nobody is forcing any of you to partake in this conversation? If it's annoying you then leave the chat and don't visit it
This chat is made for discussions like this
Also, the only ones that got shut down due to competition was Aperion remake, and Galaxy in turmoil
Those two were the majorly known projects
They weren't shut down due to competition, they were shut down because they didn't have the license to make a game
Galaxy in turmoil was literally assets slapped together, it wasn't even close to being finished
Because EA/Aspyr were going to be producing the kotor remake, and the BF1 and 2 by the time they were being revealed, more or less
It was at the beginning stages, there was no comp. Battlefront 3 was canceled before that
Also what does Arma being built off other projects have to do with the topic at hand. I don't see the correlation in the slightest
As an artist I wouldn't want people to take my work without permission
If I took your credit card and used it without your permission, would you not feel some type of way about it.
Because people and other have stated that arma was built off of mods like starsim, which isn't entirely the case.
I can't entertain that and give my opinion about as I don't know much about it, I still don't know what that had to do with the conversation we were having? Just because it wasn't built off of Starsim doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't exist
Eh, all Im saying is, they've reaped what they've sowned
Just numerous things over the years
Drama, toxicity, Ripping assets, defending said projects that have ripped shit, harrassed mod devs for producing stuff they didn't like in numbers, to the point they bullied them out of starsim, shady stuff as well, etc
Well I'm not apart of the Starsim community, I don't partake in any of their activities. I'm just a modder, wanting to make a Star Wars mod. If my mod or community somehow falls out of line with TOS, I will happily take it down. But since It won't, I won't have to worry. I don't like Starsim anyways, I never have. Which is why I never did any dev work for those teams, I just like Star Wars.
Fair enough.
I will agree, a lot of the stuff that you listed I have seen. So I can't deny that, which is why I'll never play Starsim
But then again, I don't think that should stop me from making a Star Wars mod
Which I agree with you on that case, it's just something that Im sure wouldn't sit well with disney-lucasfilm
Which is why some should be de-attached to these sort of things, and have other projects on standby
Just in case
As a modder typically will do
What makes Arma so special though, when numerous other mods exist and from what we discussed before a few days ago, from reviewing their TOS it's not breaking it.
That's a good question though to be fair, and why I don't see why people are making a big deal out of starsim in this chat for 1+ weeks
It's also why I've been so de-attached from the chat, and only said my pieces on the subject
I think people just want to be safe than sorry, but what do you have to lose if you're not the one developing the project. Disney won't be coming after any of the players in this chat, besides the one that develop the mods.
Right.
A few people have gone out of their way to attack the community and have the mods they like playing the game with gone because "it'z ulways been milsim"
The mods where removed because they broke BIs IP rules, regardless of people's thoughts on starsim)
Again, Im not defending either side in the slightest, just that I find this situlation to be funny. It's like watching a rabid raccoon fighting another rabid raccoon, and then looking back at it like "What the hell was that? Ah well, nature being nature"
^
I think the reason why we've been going on about Star Wars for so long is because of what people have seen Disney do and are hesitant to allow it, how big Star Wars is, and the people that love it.
Are all in one chat
I just like Star Wars, so I'm willing to dispute it. As I've seen what Star Wars can do to a community, when handled the right way. It's beneficial for all
Can I remind everyone here that the topic of this channel is not that. Thank you.
All these points that people bring up about star wars mods have been discussed almost a 100+ times. So ,
BI has a interest in protecting itself. While I personally don't think Disney would go after Arma if they decided to take action against SW mods the possibility is still there. Disney has written their legal documents about user generated content so it always leaves this possibility open. This is why BI can never officially endorse SW content on this discord.
That being said, SW mods can usually exist on the workshop if they are totally original content.
I think every SW mod dev knows at any point Disney could send a C&D to them. Maybe theres a case for fair use, but i don't think any one of them want to find out in court.
Arma community try to have a coherent conversation challenge (impossible everybody is always right)
@hallow idol so i got a response from steam regarding Yura Esin incident
took them 7 days to decide whether it's okay or not and yet they link me an Agreement that doesn't cover topic of "uploading a mod publicly and forbidding any public usage of it", however I guess it works and is "legal" the same way people may block certain users from using a workshop mod
Its probably more likely that it took Dawn a few days to wade through the insane amount of DMCA work she has 😉
I wouldn't be a human being if I didn't complain about a giant leviathan of a company 😛
Report to the creator of Tarkov
contains assets from rhs so
@echo orchid might be interested then.
why not report it to the gun company that owns the guns design instead of the game, tarkov does not even own the rights to the guns themselves but thats a whole other thing
He doesn't know
oh u poor soul
explain
Time to report Arma 3 CMMG for stolen MX design
Its not about the gun design, it s about the models...
it’s clearly that yet again you don’t understand how some things work. please refrain from posting in that case
he is, will investigate and DMCA accordingly
the topic is in regards to 3d assets and meshes, not licenses / trademarks
well yeah but my question was not about that though i was just asking a question, im sorry if it was a in convince to you as you seemed offended when i asked it by replying "it’s clearly that yet again you don’t understand how some things work."
gun company doesn’t own the 3d models
so the question in regards to why isn’t someone reporting anything to the gun company
has a single answer - because they do not own the IP for the models used
The quick explanation is: “It is a creative object or work intended to represent an object in the real world.” Legally it is the artist...
is this your final stand?
It's Arma modding, not Braveheart
Is that supposed to be a threat?
"Illegal content has been taken down, I will now make alot more illegal content for you to take down again"
Interesting. If you want tons of steam accounts of illegal content uploaders to be banned then I'm all for it, good on ya
If people want to knowingly do stuff they will get punished for.. ok.. if thats their kink
I would prefer people do something more useful with their lifetime, like learning how to make cool mods.
its a win-lose case, they buy multiple copies on multiple accounts, but reuploads are a pain to hunt down
Game on sale is literally pennies
So doesn't phase anyone
it's not hard to find reuploads 🙂
Re-uploading loads of mods without permit.
Also repeated offenders just using another steam account.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2835226123
Looks like they don't learn. Also still violating my copyrights and the next DMCA is already sent to their hoster.
the awful thing about this, is that they have put this in the description
𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞/𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭/𝐫𝐞𝐮𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐩𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐳.
well, it shows their intellectual limitations I presume
Its hard to make a modlist.. no, just reupload everything again 🤷♂️
modpacks solves a lot of troubles, ill really nice to have a legal way to do it.
modlist are a mess, you can freeze versions and make al in one pack.
using a mod with a lot of dependencies is a good way to go, but sometimes steam fails to download them all, and still have the version issue
also there is some mod that for some reason the arma launcher fail to give the download links for some reason
that's a doomed conversation with only one result here as far as I've seen it pop up
modpacks force people to download the same mods twice assuming they already have the original ones, and if the mod version you have in your pack has issues that have been solved in more recent version (and you don't update it because of compatibility) I bet my ass they will come to the og mod page and cry that mod X is broken. Not to mention people most of the times do edits they are not allowed to make and monetize this stuff. Making a preset is easy and mods that are used by mod packers are rarely updated at all.
a3sync or custom repo is the only accepted way to keep the mods in whatever version suits you afaik.
remember 2.10 is around the corner (august maybe?) those modpacks will have lots of broken stuff after update.
many mod makers, especially terrain makers, stopped doing whatever they were working on because people often packed maps in terrain packs and then were surprised Arma doesn't work as it should lol
modpacks doesn’t solve anything that cannot be solved using existing legal methods
also modpacks are not this channel's topic.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2833771582&searchtext= Just found this with a big fat Z on it real BRUH moment
how does it violate any IP? it's a retex/config mod, with an addition of "L" but it's not a rip or reupload.
ultra-smol model
hehe, np ^^ happenz - thanks for your eyes 😛
@manic laurel Are we permitted to use arma 3 textures in reforger like we are with the a2 data pack textures?
Arma 3 data pack isnt open to public yet
but the textures are available in the arma 3 files.
Wait for Arma 3 data packs with license 🙂
buut what textures would you use? and they are not in the right format anyway
I would use the heli light interior textures mostly. And I can take the diff/spec non pbr textures and convert them to pbr, that's not an issue. I'm using the Take on Helicopters little bird, and it's the same/ish as the a3 model. Textures I'm looking for line up fine. The Take on helicopters versions however are civilian based, even the armed version. The interior textures from A3 are better suited to making an mh6/ah6 version.
I think it's a reconfig of the BTR 80 to have systems more similar to the 82 (author comment)
oh I can't post images
"All crews copy their predecessors from the rhs. Who was in the BTR-80, the same ones are sitting in the BTR-82. I didn’t change anything with the rhs in this regard, I only inherited" (translated with google translate from comments section by creator))
yep, it's a config and texture mod, no IP problem here
It's only a config mod. There are no textures in it
If there where, it would be an IP issue since RHS doesn't allow it. Most likely what they guy posting was referring too
Its a retexture/derivative, in a way thats not permitted
@echo orchid scroll up to the RHS, I think you talked about that before? Depicting the Z logo on RHS things?
How did they get a Z onto it when its config only?
Or is that only for the screenshots but isn't actually in the mod?
Thought RHS forbids to depict the war using it?
It's only for screenshots, as many mods do
Same goes for the CUP Ratnik & arab units, RF2035 MP pads, & coloured armbands.
Nice
what?
The file size
yeah will deal with it
cheers
@soft egret @pliant oar Hey guys. I have a question about the A3 samples body male character mesh. It is allowed to upload the body base male in samples as a sort of textured undersuit. I know we can use samples stuff just not sure to what degree we are allowed to use them.
Just to clarify, am I allowed to mix and edit arma 2 assets when making an Arma 3 mod?
yes. the Arma 2 released datapacks come with few different licenses so according to whatever license is in the package
Is the AR music released under one of the APL licenses? I don't think so, right?
also, it applies forward, I believe
aka OFP → ArmA → Arma 2 → Arma 2 OA → Arma 3 → Arma R
from one game to its sequels (in the broad term)
aka OFP → ArmA → Arma 2 → Arma 2 OA → Arma 3
\-- → Arma R
?
are we talking about licenses?
yes
So are you saying that content from previous games can go forward? Or that content from the data packs can only go forward?
content from the data packs
Are you implying that the answer to Ben's question here would be No? #ip_rights_violations message
And @manic laurel Is HorribleGoat correct?
AFAIK the textures are not in the data pack, so no
Ok, wasn't sure who the answer was too.
Ok, that makes sense. We won't use them then, thanks.
The order of questions and answers made it confusing 😆
yyyep 😄
i was wondering how in the end this was still flagged for dmca
🤣
shame that the workshop is so policed to the point where retextures with edited weapon speeds get taken down
there might be something else
like, RHS license not allowing the Z symbol on any of their vehicles
This mod still doesn't have any Z symbols on any vehicles 💀 💀 💀
if it doesn't have in its source, then IDK
maybe "it features it in the screenshots" is a reason for it, anyway it's a stab in the dark here
He has already turned off comments
the original author should DMCA the copy
this should be pretty clear case
@stable zealot
Ty
Not quite sure why they would need to do that, they credit me and everything. What’s the purpose of the reupload I wonder
it's 10 megabytes bigger so either something was added or it's just a debinarized version
I wonder if it’s a Russian translation of the mod, I’ll have a look in the morning. Shouldn’t require a complete upload to change the name strings but anywho
Hio, Just a little question, is it Safe To buy royalty free liscences for Models online?
Cuz Like, i Dont wanna get Problems If i buy any
well there is always slight risk if the seller has not actually made the model
but you can often ask around to see if someone is reputable enough or if someone work looks fishy. There are a lot of good artists out there selling legit models
bought models often are not game ready though so there may be some more work needed still to bring them into a game
what's the rule around unsung retextures?
