well in other games he may have set the microphone to not be the default

Is there a notable benefit in terms of performance when using a dedicated server on the same machine you're playing on vs hosting in game? I know in ArmA 3 there was a huge difference but what about reforger? (I want to play against some ai)
if youre playing by yourself only just host one in game through game master or whatever, wont be a problem

It won't be a thing in vanilla. The destruction will be akin to what we had in a 3.

there will be some cool particles it shatters into but like what Ivan said there will be a fine state and a destroyed state, a little bit dissapointing but i understand the reasoning behind such decisions

being behind a damaged btr, with the engine having the black smoke, affects the frames by atleast -10
I guess the walls have sleeping, individual and divided models that activate once damage is applied. The building could have a single hitbox, but upon impact it calculates the point of damage, activates the sleeping models from that wall and hides the static model. This solution would save up resources as long as the walls are intact
Could be a fun project to try and implement that in the workbench

Only problem with that would be calculating if the rest of the building will collapse, otherwise this approach would make it so you can have floating building halves, so while it does indeed sound a mole it just adds so much more complexity that I honestly don't thinks enfusions multiplayer capabilities will be able to facilitate

Sure, it would be complex, but definitely possible. Maybe by grouping certain structures in the building to carry each other's weight and when enough or all of the carrying structures are gone it will also get destroyed. But yeah, it would surely be very demanding to simulate in a multiplayer server, at least in the scale of Arma games

Saw a long time ago a video of the destruction turned on somehow. It seemed pretty in depth. Like wood panels breaking apart on an outhouse as it was shot at.

we already have few models of destroyed buildings, so if they do it like a3, the standard model will simply change to the destroyed one when the building takes enough damage.
Hopefully, this means they will have to make tons of new variants for each model, and I can't wait to use those new models.

lods are still broken in some cases as well, and exiting vehicles makes your game somehow foreget the texture on your weapon forcing it to reload the textures

Technically it could be done I'm sure. Just all the parts would need to be modeled and put together. Even in RV engine you could do a multi part destruction and in A3 make physx gib parts fall down. It's just immensely more time consuming to develop

Nah model each brick/beam/concrete block. All physix. And they have to be structually sound to begin with. So you can make new entrance by crashing btr into a building

They've shown a prototype at a conference back in 2022 of buildings assets being cut into segments similar to your pic
Why doesn't BI make shotguns? Is it an engine issue or a lack of experience/knowledge? The shotguns added to Arma 3 are terrible and don't match real life shotgun ballistics (buckshot spreads far too fast and drops like a rock, velocity is also rather slow), which is odd considering that their other guns do match real life ballistics very well. The zero on the double barrel also is incorrect, after 25m the slug drops below the top of the bead, at 50m, the slug is roughly in line with the rail instead of the bead, at 100m aiming at the head is a thigh shot, but hard to hit since you can't see your target anymore.
The Promet SG is even worse. the slug misses completely most of the time (like to go left/right by ~15 degrees, yet the type 115 underbarrel doesn't?) and the buckshot shoots kinda high from the point of aim. For all the weight an underbarrel SG would add the rifle has a lot of recoil too, same with the type 115 and its underbarrel)
They also can't reload individual rounds (double barrel for example) and have to treat them as mags.
Is this a baked in engine issue or do they not know how to code it in from lack of experience? Not trying to be antagonistic, simply trying to understand why shotguns aren't given the same treatment as rifles. Is it the same reason there are no shotguns in Reforger? Breachers normally use shotguns as they are great for the CQC urban environments which Reforger has plenty of with all of the towns.

I can understand mechanically that they'd be harder to program (single loading rounds instead of mags, pump action animations. We don't even have bolt actions, everything is semi auto or full auto, not sure if that's engine issue or just not wanting to make animations for racking bolts).
I mean the game engine is 1000% capable of doing any type of weapon action and shotguns
yet we never see them. even the .408 CT rifle is bolt action yet functions like a semi auto. No animation for the bolt to cycle, it just moves itself.

We had shotguns in Vietnam and we still have them today for door breaching. They wouldn't be standard issue, but still something that the military uses.
I dont know very much military history but almost certainly all of the weapons discussed just now have been used in conflicts
i think giving a quirky gun just for one side is kinda unfair.

Russians used the KS-23 in the 80's. been in service since the 70's. Even uses a rifles barrel so it considered a carbine (though its functionally a shotgun, just weird Russian classification for guns)
A problem with shotguns, especially in arma though, is how do you balance it.
The only reasonable solution is that shotguns suck extremely bad compared to rifles. Except for maybe a (full?) semi-auto shotgun

Rifles and SGs have very different purposes and ranges.
IZH-80 was a short lived, but used combat shotgun in the late 80's.

A bolt action rifle isn't a meme weapon because your probably firing a large cartridge like 7,62x51 or 7.62x54. With an high enough magnified optic a bolt action hunting rifle basically becomes a sniper weapon. Eg The us m24 was based off the m700 hunting rifle after all.
limbs and head are unarmored. and slugs exist. People forget how dangerous shotguns are. at 40m most shotguns with buckshot can keep the spread on a man sized chest. They have more range that most games give them credit for.
Rifles are amazing all around so when you add a shotgun, what does it do differently
i have checked a few combat videos and i dont really find any shotguns, even in reforger ones(irl), only rifles and mgs.
I dont think anyone here is opposed to bolt actions, they have uses in probably ever military conflict since their invention
and in terms of game mechanics, it can have larger calibers, higher velocity, higher range, etc
the stuff in the game are good and best to just wait for a4 to bring all kinds of guns.
Issue is even within a shotguns effective range is that someone can just shoot you center of mass semi auto with a m16 and ak74 using a a 30 round magazine and armor wont stop the round without having try to aim for smaller non armored spots, but in turn you trying to pump action someone in a non critical area like legs because thier armor saves them . Your just at a disadvantage. Plus sights on shotguns generally suck.
range is a big issue if you are fighting around farmland, its just fields of wheat or grass, now imagine trying to fight there with a gun that hits max 100m.
think that the scenario of nato vs warsaw was between the germanies
in my opinion a shotgun would really only be appropriate in this game as a civilian weapon, and the game would have to acknowledge that it would be much less effective than other alternatives
In games it seems memey, but your forget that a person's arms block the chest, so a shotgun is going to break arms. Arma takes limb injuries into account and now adds bleeding with Reforger. Rifles all around are better, yes. But shotguns do have a place in close quarters.

Again, slugs exist. And if you have buckshot and fire first, disable their arms, their aim is basically gone. plenty of time to fire a second shot or move to cover. I'm not saying shotguns would be top tier or meta, but they should be an option. Even if it is to meme on people.

So you are then trying to use crappy sights on a shotgun to precision aim because it's no longer buckshot. Slugs might pen better , and have more effe tive at range tyen buckshot but it's still inferior at range to a rifle round. While slug will do better against soft armor I unlikely to pen 6b3 plate inserts.
Modded shotguns in A3 were pretty bad too. suffered the same issues. Main thing was that tube fed shotguns couldn't reload individual rounds because the engine only recognizes magazines. We also don't see any top fed rifles in Arma games that let you reload rounds without reloading the whole thing. Might be an engine thing?

From my (limited!) reforger mod experience, I believe it's possible to have much more granular control over things like that
Arma 3 I have no idea, i looked at modding one time and it looked horrible so i never touched it lol
In arma 3 only animation you could do is no round in gun and it loads a new mag and racks the bolt, but for reforger it doesnt rack the bolt and you can have an extra round, so probably some how you could get a single round load feature but best to wait for a4 for bi to add one, if they decide to even add one
But that makes me bring back the point. There is damn near no use case that a pump shotgun is gonna be better than an automatic rifle

I just think about garbage like arma life servers. obviously we hate those folks (/s)! But they would probably appreciate having a first party high quality shotgun implementation. Or countless different scenarios out there. It'd be good for the game
Kind of my point. If BI can put a properly functioning shotgun tube fed in, modders can do the rest with reskins and such. The main things I want addressed with a first party shotgun is proper ballistics and reloading to not be mag based.

I kinda changed my mind. I definitely agree. I think reforger should have first party implementations of all common types of weapons implemented to their internal standards for the sake of modders to be able to make higher quality content.
Modders can only do as much as the engine allows. If we can't single load rounds then that also prevents things like WW2 mods with top fed rifles from being reloaded with only 1 or 2 rounds. Its dumb seeing your character fire 3 rounds from a 7 rounds tube and then shove 7 rounds in (the 4 in there just disappear) when you reload. baking that function into the game would impact more than just 1 weapon type.

If the Battlefield series with its large maps can have shotguns so can Arma. Yes its arcadey and doesn't take body armor into account, but it has even worse ballistics for shotguns and they still work. No reason a milsim can't do the same.
I think the correct answer is just to implement shotguns in a mostly realistic fashion, they will suck balls against armor, they will suck at fire rate unless automatic, but theyll definitely put down unarmored targets, and thats all fine, it'll still have uses in certain game modes or scenarios
What does salvo mean
if salvo size means projectiles fired per trigger pull, I think the game is already set up for shotguns
BaseWeaponComponent is actually based on magazines. But I think you'd be able to code it like an "internal magazine" (tube) and your reload anims just adjust how many are in there. I think it'd work
Unsure what it means for ingame modding. calling it salvo size doesn't make sense. projectile quantity makes more sense. A Salvo is multiple guns firing at once, so maybe its for vehicles? Like an AA truck with multiple barrel AA guns?
But would it do the same as A3 and just magic away the rounds in the internal mag?

Eh, prob just hard to get to said rank, man the turrent & driver, and use it effectively in small server sizes for vanilla. Where as modded servers have far “better” vehicles
I steer away from mods especially thoses that add vehicles
because people dont have patience and die almost immediatly with it
in infantry you can just go around tp anywhere but with btr you have to physically get to places and its slow as fuck. But i mean i love playing with it, just would be much greater if there was periscopes

that is how the default folders for reforger are set up

I think you have to put the scenario link/name from the arma workshop into your JSON file where it says scenario, I haven't done it for a while so I can't quite remember. There is a wiki explaining it, I'll see if I can find it and I'll DM you the link mate
The scenario ID is missing from that JSON file. However, the darkgru server uses the add-on to create a conflict scenario, so I was curious how I could use it.

Well yes, because Reforger only has cold war assets available.
So anything that isn't in the vanilla game (like more modern stuff) will require mods to add it instead
Which is the power of Arma; if it doesn't exist, there's probably a mod for it. If not; you can make one yourself 🙂

Something like a reconnect component in the scenario, I don't remember exactly where. I'd look under game mode components.

no. Milsim is a category, so if a community is milsim then it depends on them what you need for example if you need mods or not, but deluxe edition doesnt change or add anything in the game

Anyone having issues where AI teleport through doors? What in tarnation causes this? It's frustrating when they teleport through a door and get the jump on players
Doors are technically just openings with a path for AI to walk on, and since the AI in AR is still very basic I guess the doors are still a work in progress (aka AI doesn't see/use them).
It's a common problem with other Arma titles, especially with modded buildings. And even other games have this issue, so not Arma specific.

No the doors open themselves in front of the character. AI has same animation set as players.
Thats a shame - i dont know what animations player has as havent had it installed for long time -i just check in on the updates to see wheres it at waiting for AI update to drop. I disagree with their fundamental thinking that AI can only have same animations as player -it looks so robotic to just have a unit already at the ready when a door is magically flung open. Thats why I respect the AI devs for Ready or Not so much -they spent a sh*tload of time on micro transitional animations

I think with how many features of AI are still missing, animations are probably the least of our worries
Well again I dont know -i only go by what i see and read here to get a general sense of direction. If this is the testbed to Arma 4 -then whats being focused on should give us a general sense of its trajectory. Hell I been checking Star Citizens AI update logs for longer than my daughters been alive and shes in the 4th grade. It at least lets me see in great detail where their focus is -here, i dont see much of anything

I know they're basic, but they have ALWAYS opened doors in reforger from my experience. So for them to randomly regress is weird to me. The only time they would "teleport" was when I was in GM and players weren't around. I figured it was an optimization thing. However, they've started using doors less and less, as if players are GMs or something and they don't care to use doors.
I actually wanna say, it's the players who login as admins who have AI teleport on them. I'll have to give this a try but it seems like things are normal until I login as admin

Beyond that distance players will not see or hear other players, vehicles etc. A lower value can result in better server performance, but if it is below the maximum draw distance you may notice things popping in in the distance
so what is the ideal setting?
dynamic entities are streamed/loaded to your game when you are within this range of said entity
this includes items, players, vehicles, objects spawned by the game master and so on

Fwiw, nitrado is absolutely awful to host with and you will likely continue to encounter problems like this one, i did when i used them. That being said your best bet is to save your config file, do a full reinstall of the server, then re-add your config file and restart the server in order to add all your mods/etc. Every time Reforger updated when i used nitrado i had to do a full server wipe in order to update

I cant speak to "the best", but i currently use GTX Gaming and its night and day difference. You get better specs for the same price as the lowest nitrado tier and the interface for managing your server is way better. Plus you have filesystem access so mods like Server Admin Tools are actually usable. If a full wipe didnt fix it i have no idea, id say contact nitrado support but Reforger will have hit 2.0 by the time they get back to you
I think you need to reinstall the server to update it on nitrado. Keep in mind that mods break on updates and you should first get unmodded server working, then add mods.
We used to have to do reinstalls every time a large mod updated back when delta patching for servers was broken, which sucked because nitrado servers will force restart when they detect a mod update from BI backend
In the middle of a match and your server suddenly shits the bed and its 30 minutes before you can get it back online
That's our issue tbh, we get the vanilla working but then we add the JSON script back in and it breaks again.
Json isnt a script.
That means one of the mods you are using is broken and preventing startup. Eliminate them until it starts
Normally on nitrado tho if it was a mod error it would tell you
But instead there is no alert or anything, the server says it has started stays like that for a while and then force restarts itself

No, you should just add them to your config file and theyll be downloaded to the server. Dependencies are also autoresolved but not dependencies of dependencies. Best practice is manually enter all mods your server will run. What does console.log say

All these errors are related to that. Can you try adding only RHS - Stats Quo and removing all other mods and starting it? My server starts with that mod (plus some others) so if yours doesnt the issue is perhaps somewhere else

We are currently adding the modded map we run to see if they will start with that, and probably just add one mod at a time just one by one
If you narrow it down to which, contact mods creator to fix em.
Gotcha, its definitely a mod youre running then. My guess is it isnt all the mods that throw errors that are actually causing problems, but rather 1 or more mods that affect something globally

It can, if you have a mod that somehow changes localization and is broken, it can look like localization is broken for all mods
one mod can break the whole server, but multiple mods can break the same thing (as can be seen in the error log), which can either be seperate issues (just the same) or one mod breaking all the other ones
We've also had issues where a dependency is broken/missing and it'll throw an error about the gamemode

So, it failed when we added the custom map, we use an everon expansion and it ran it fine before, and then when we did a restart yesterday it just wouldn't come online, same again we just added it and it failed

We run a 24/7 campaign in our unit but on server resets each platoon has to rebuild our COP’s. Is there a way to save the world after they are built so that at reset it loads up the world w them already placed down?

Because Arma despite not being a flight sim, still has a pretty in depth flight model, where you fly over massive expanses of terrain and have a lot of people rely on you if you're flying. So being able to just outright have more control is always better, having analog foot pedals, eye tracking so you don't have to hold alt to look around while you are actively landing
is just outright better than flying with default inputs
going from playing games with eye tracking support, where you literally just move your head a bit and you look over, actually hurts to where you have to completely cut your control input to hold alt and move your mouse

The scenario is in Capture and Hold mode. Locally, everything works fine at startup. When running on the server, the player is connected, the selection menu works, the choice of the loadouts works. But when trying to spawn, the player is kick off the server.

Yes it is possible and quite easy in the workbench, but not realistic at all.

That is why I mentioned that it depends on the radio model.
I actually tried changing that once and while it was pretty easy to change in the radio prefab I realized that you also have to change the UI to display more digits.

Arsenals are in the game already, Bacon has a mod where you can make arsenals have infinite supplies (which I think should be a feature as a GM in the base game, would make gearing up before ops a lot easier). If you mean an arsenal like there is in Arma 3, no, there isn't any that I know of.

Are you modding it yourself or do you want to add it to it in game?
If modding, it's pretty easy to do if the vehicle has a SlotManagerComponent. You just add a slot to it (use EntitySlotInfo), and then add the BaseVirtualArsenalSlot.et to it's prefab. That should make the vehicle work as an arsenal vehicle, you just need to open it in the inventory.

I have not heard about this but I have been thinking the same. M24 adopted in '88 would fit the US faction well and FIA should get the mosin.

The game has medics but came to think of this: are they just riflemen with a loadout that has more medical supplies? Does a medic (character) have differing traits or capabilities when it comes to treating wounded in-game? I mean, as far as I understand any type of character can use the currently available medical items on other characters which makes the medic character a bit of useless (unless it has some specific traits/better stats/whatever for treating wounded)
They have no different stats.
If you have a medic in your squad, they should carry a medic box instead of extra ammo, but because of how the weight system works, everyone carry everything.
You are certain that this is the case? Maybe taken a look (in their 'stats')? Asking since..I guess I just want to hear a confirmation that if they do or don't (I'm not sure where I should look if I'd wanted to go look myself)

M21 imo already works better as a sniper as opposed to a svd like designated marksman rifle just due to the higher magnification optic. And was irl considered a sniper weapon system that was used with sniper scout units until its replacement. In any case m21 doesn't see its full potential in reforger because the trajectory cam doesn't work for it. The bullet cam would basically change the elevation of the scope to compensate for the bullet drop,. So all one had to is zoom until the mils fit to the upper half of a body regardless of the assigned zero. Matched and based on the level of variable zoom you used you not only had your range but didn't need to manually adjust the zeroing before firing.. You just squeezed the trigger.

Bolt action rifles are possible to mod in right now, the biggest issue is if you want to use something that has a build-in mag since the MuzzleInMagComponent is a bit restrictive in that respect. Might or might not change in the future.
Ambulances are already in the game. Police vehicles are probably going to be a no, and vehicle radios are also probably a no

its a framework. putting it on your server doesnt do anything if you dont know how to use it.
If you run it along side the Database framework the you don't need to know how to use it for it to work.

I have problems with micro stutters, game goes on 60 fps fine, but it doesnt feel smooth. When it gets to 80 fps, thats point where it starts to feel smooth. Does Reforger treat Hands/Gloves as separate item slots? (I see feet/boots are separate. Also torse and legs.) This is a must so we can pick gloves. Example, medics could wear medical gloves when they need to.

So bad too stay blocked at 30 or 45 FPS with drops I like the game but I just want he get more optimized
The experimental version got updated it stays at 60 much better now

Agreed, I just think it would fit the game very well and create more realistic combat because when a tank shoots a shell into a building I expect a hole but not the building directly collapsing (Unless its a shed or so im talking about a real building) or nothing happening

Some facts:
- It takes exactly 16 minutes to fully recover blood loss - from "uncon from blood loss" state to fully recovered
- it takes 1m 20 se to recover 70% of blood recovered with one saline solution
- With 2 saline solutions you can fully recovery blood in about 2m 45 sec - 3m
- A serious injury is fully healed with 4 morphines within 2 minutes (1 morphine works for 30 seconds)
- You can fully heal any injury within 3 second with a first aid kit + ambulance in the proximity - costs 1 supply loaded into ambulance. You cannot heal yourself with first aid kit

Hey, don't know where else to go for this issue, I have tried so many things and cant find the error and have searched through so many threads. I am able to load up a server on my own, and my friends can join it, however I cannot. I am almost confident it is because of something with me being connected to the same router that the server is hosted out from. I am unsure though if anyone has any fixes, please do help!
You are correct.
You need to enable NAT loopback/hairpinning on your router.
Issue stems due to your routers inability to resolve your own public ip.
And reforger server disallowing connection on local loopback (localhost)

does anyone else ever have an issue with game master on a dedicated server not allowing you to spawn in AI troops randomly? the budget is turned off but myself and my other game master at random times it will not allow us to spawn in AI troops, all other items spawn in just fine tho.

Hi, could you help me? Why is map not working? I added the SCR_MapEntity component, created Map Geometry Data and Satellite Background for it, when entering the game when pressing M, the character just gets the map, but it does not open
