should be
Hm, i played around with the hiddenselections and couldnt overwrite the texture with my own.
oh whoops i was tired when i wrote that
i meant the buttons
that I dont know. could be you cant.
Alright question: you know how in the showcase mission for the Art DLC, a helicopter lands exactly in the middle of a smoke grenade, and doesnt take off immediately?
How do I do that? Because AI will instantly take off after landing on smoke for some reason
tried to set flyinheight 0?
or use that dedicated landing waypoint, it should do all of that
nah
Would love to have iterations of dirt, forest and rock graves without the cross.
hey casually resurrecting years old questions but is this fixed in arma's current version?
Assets of War DLC when?
βοΈ
- Most Arma 3 buildings and objects optimized with proper occluders, improved materials and textures.
- Random furniture to buildings/houses like Reforger/Global Mobilization. (Made possible due to ocluders preventing FPS loss)
- Some buildings without interiors get new interiors ie the SOG treatment.
- Fixes for player movement and Ai pathfinding inside buildings. (Due to improvements and fixes in model geometry)
- First 3 years for buyers only, afterwards gets added to the base game and the old unoptimized assets completely removed.
- Fully outsourced so no need to get BI internal resources involved.
- Community members with experience in modeling, modding and asset creation have already expressed interest in this sort of projects
Benefits:
- Added optimizations results in far higher FPS, less stutters (if any)
- Allows map makers and mission makers to add more objects to their creations
- Higher immersion due to finally having fully furnaced buildings/houses
- Modernizing Arma 3 to its ultimate state before EoL
- PS: Posting here because I am suggesting that such DLC uses the same revenue model as the Art of War DLC. Some of the profits could go to charity even!
- PS2: This is a mere suggestion and all the items in here are just speculation on what could potentially be included in a DLC such as this.
- PS3: The main point of this post is so that everyone can throw ideas on how such improvements could be financed and eventually implemented.
Who would be willing to buy this DLC at 10 to 20 USD?
#laws_of_war_discussion message So it would work for players without the DLC?
If the DLC owner is also the server host I guess that then yes but that would depend on the policy that is chosen and that is up to BI
Wait, if it just loads the asset like a normal asset, then would any clients need it at all?
If the Ai units are local to the owner of the DLC then the ai benefits from the improved geometries, but that is if the devs of this "teorical" DLC are willing to do those improvements
So far I've only heard about potential devs willing to add the missing occluders, improved textures and normals, everything else I just added as a brainstorming and nothing of course is set on stone since this is just teorycrafting
I still don't think it's possible to have different assets on different clients without big problems.
Just improved ocluders, textures and materials won't cause any issues at all, geometries and new interiors will but those could just be included once the DLC becomes free and into the game replacing all the non optimized assets
And since ocluders allow for furniture without massive fps loss then the non owners will just get a performance penalty compared to owners. Non owners would get exactly the performance we get now thou
But, If you've got better ideas on how to pay for the dev hours to get these improvements into the game be my guess
I couldn't figure out anything other than the art of war model to make this a reality
The thing I was thinking of is how it would be loaded differently without being able to load it without being able to load it without the DLC.
I think that there are a few trustworthy modders that would be willing to work with BI on it for free, but BI is too careful about their IP.
Nobody will work for free, that is why the suggestion is to make it a paid DLC first exactly like Art of War was, becomes free later once costs have been recouperated
Also it could work exactly like the mod I pointed to you ----> https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1883956552&searchtext=interiors+for+cup
Using the Interiors for CUP mod as a reference the clients without the mod load the regular CUP buildings while the clients with the mod replace the CUP buildings with the livonia ones
So the CUP buildings represent the current vanilla buildings and the livonia buildings represent the improved ones... It is that simple really
No need to reinvent the wheel, it has been done already
That works, but when the clients have a mix of CUP and Livonia buildings (some have the mod, and some don't)
It gets messy as the objects are never actually synced between all clients and the server
You get odd, undesired behaviour from unsynced objects most of the time
While the mechanics that the mod uses are similar to the mechanics suggested for the theorical DLC the mod is far more "aggressive" since it replaces buildings without interiors with buildings WITH interiors. On the theorical DLC the main change is just the occluders so desyncs should be pretty negligible (if any) and buildings given interiors could be delayed until the optimized assets are part of the base game.
BI doesn't allow modifying their models with modding, so modding is not an option unless BI changes its policies.
But yes, you meant "mods in the workshop are Free work" but in reality that is not the case at all. Mods are not free, the modders pay their bills (energy) and their time is also money so modding is not free at all either.
Just free for the subscribing users
But it is the mod makers paying for your hours of entertainment from their own pockets
I think we can all agree we all would love to get optimized/modernized assets into Arma 3. That is not a question at all. What this post discusses is the HOW to achieve that
So if someone thinks my proposed "HOW" is not viable it would be better if that person makes a better proposal rather than just pointing out the difficulties at hand, otherwise is just negativity for the sake of it and not leading us closer to the goal at hand
What I'm saying is that I think there are modders that would PAY to be able to work with BI to improve assets. Many people make mods as hobbies, so they don't mind not getting money from it and even are willing to spend thousends of dollars on their mods, knowing that they not get it back.
Could be but I don't think BI would be willing to allow that without getting any $$ in return for themselves
Would gladly add missing occluders to buildings for free. It isn't that hard. All the buildings can be done in 3-4 days.
New interiors take more time and would have to be done smart, without unnesessary windows and doors, otherwise benefit provided by occluders is lowered for that building.
Same goes for furniture. Even more so, furniture would have to be done as a proxy object so it can be turned on/off, and is off by default.
It is better to push BI for ADPL license release asap, so modders can mod buildings and terrains within the game. It is about time now.
That sounds like an easier solution indeed...
It is better to push BI for ADPL license release asap, so modders can mod buildings and terrains within the game. It is about time now.
Even if it was just by request to trusted people!
@odd sandal can be trusted. BI knows him
For anyone missed my Tweet, or even don't have Twitter account: You can use POLPOX's Artwork Supporter, or maybe other my own MODs in order to make 2D arts for AoW contest, without asking me. If you'd like to, you can credit my name/MODs.
So how flexible are the categories?
boots with the jeans
i considered making exoskeleton(s)... but i already have a wacom tablet... so anyone feel free to pick up the idea π
meh, without custom skeleton theyre not that great
not the "i am 5 ton man" types. The nimble types that are currently in testing/implementation
then difficult to get to deform nicely.
A decent challenge for sure if anyone wants to take it on xD
the only challenge are ball-joints (hip, shoulder) and there you can do some flexible handwaving by surrounding it with flexible material type. If you just do one for legs, you dont even need to worry about shoulders
So a quick questions, what would the 2D art be used for? Is it for more "posters" or paintings to be added?
@elfin bison why would you make exoskeletons for humanitarian stuff? to move cargo?
@hazy pebbleI think they said they'll make a sort of art gallery scenario
Well, because its universal. Its usefull in rescue operation, relief efforts, logistics in general - but also military stuff
@queen schooner rick
I beg yer pardon?
i actually wanted to ask if people would have some requests
considering i am not really eligible for this contest as previously working for BI
but wanted to get some ideas for what people would expect on each category
@safe thicket " Current or former employees or external developers of the Organizer may enter this Contest in support of the Arma 3 Art of War DLC but are not eligible for any Prizes. "
well, you can π
yeah hence the question
:))))
I bet you would win with such submission!
you in the jury panel?
a good thing about DLCs is that they add foundations to build upon and can be reused a lot
like how LoW added a lot for humanitarian stuff
maybe a good expansion for the AAN, cameras, outfits, screens, boxes
did you see what the categories are before stating the above?
If your looking for ideas. A memorial dedicated to both the FIA and AAF, reminding people of the horrors of civil war.
Missing persons posters rather its own model or a 2d decal.
Something to give a more human prospective for CSAT would be nice as well. Shallow graves for fallen comrads or something similar.
Yes, I did. I was just saying
@spring hollow yeah, but things are limited to the following
Prop
- A statue.
- A sculpture.
- A prop related to news media.
- A prop related to military funerals.
Accessory - A backpack.
- A facewear item.
- A headgear item.
Clothing - A life vest.
- A parade dress uniform.
- A formal suit.
- A doctor's outfit.
wrong @ >.<
Lol
@safe thicket My thoughts (most are probably fantasy, so go easy on me.)
-Prop: I've discussed this with another well known Arma modder and its probably not do-able with all the Arma 3 technical restrictions, but I'd like to see a working News Camera that functions similar to how the Titan/Javelin work. By this I mean its considered as a launcher, has its own custom viewfinder/interface and its most prominent feature... is that when you press "fire" it records in game video. A nice feature would be to add a custom "scroll" at the bottom to select from (AAN News for example).
-Accessory: Emergency blanket as an item of clothing. Similar to:
https://www.possmedical.com/pictures/blanket-emergency-blanket-mylar-aluminum-52x84.jpg
Additional thought, damaged teddy bear/crutches/eye-patch and bandage/head bandage
-Clothing: Medical scrubs
As someone who has done humanitarian work, its very hard to pin this down to any one thing. I have built schools and hospitals in poor countries. I've held dying children in my arms because there was nothing more that could be done and there was no one else to comfort them. I've purchased textbooks, paper, pens and pencils with my own money because no one else would do so.
In short, the ICRC and humanitarianism, for me, boils down to "doing whats right and helping a fellow human, no matter their ethnicity, religion, orientation, or what side they're on". I don't think this can be captured in a "virtual piece of equipment", but I've been surprised before.
Here's something I could see added by someone (since I don't have the modelling skills to do it myself, so feel free to "borrow" the idea):
Clothing - A life vest
Something partly in Arma 3 and several mods is a Survival Vest or Life Vest for naval and air units. The only missing part is the inflated state, which would be great to see in-game (either automatically when touching water, or manual) and will put the player in a floating state (but limited movement, impossible to dive).
Additionally a civilian version could be added in bright orange or yellow (instead of camouflage patterns).
Great idea. Sort of reminds me of this MANW entry:
http://makearmanotwar.com/entry/qCNdlyCbUX#.Xs2bCerPw1I
Don't forget the water activated strobe light.
The more I think on it, a Coast Guard (Maritime Gendarmerie) type concept would be interesting.
Especially considering the humanitarian issue regarding the large number of refugees (and migrants) that are in peril attempting to cross the Mediterranean.
I like the coast guard idea, could easily be transferred to Tanoa and it's flooding as well.
I could see that working
@autumn otter wait correct me if im wrong but wasnt there a mod where you have a camera? and like a bunch of news things, i unfortunatly dont remember the name tho
Not that I'm aware of, but its always a possibility.
I think I remember a mod with a camera yes. But don't know the name
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1277522502
You guys talk about this one?
yes
There's MOD counterpart, but this will never mean official (in this case third-party modellers though) couldn't make a similar one
Questionable from my perspective.
Gonna be honest, I'm having many problems with the theme of the 2d category, the website gives out some examples and useful links to read about the subject, but im honestly in doubt as to what is expected for the final result to be (not artistically wise, but meaning wise)
Who knows here, that's what ICRC judges IIRC
I mean... I'm very afraid to make something and in the end it gets a "it's nice and all but... there's no message in that"
If that's the case ofc
If nobody could read a message from your art, your art don't won it. If everybody could read something from your art, the prizes are yours
you could think about the dangers of emerging/future technology in war, the moral questions/thoughts about those and try to portray that in your art.
As simple as your statement was, it actually helped in a way
and in addition possible humanitarian costs of those future technologies being used/deployed.
Indeed uro, i am just reluctant of diving deep in "future/AI related" warfare subjects
in Arma 3 campaign there is the device which is part of the plotline, you could think about something along those lines - secret technologies / scandals / effect on humans of such devices being used in secrecy & without public knowledge.
while I agree that the theme is pretty wide/vague - it is fairly unrestrictive and does give room to experiment with ideas.
Yes, that's my problem, the amount of room for ideas it gives, as many of them rely on imaging situations who are not... yet existant in a way
But... what polpox said, people gotta read what my idea is
Doesn't matter how it looks
yeah, sketch/draft out some ideas / thought lines, those more things you put on paper the more you have to work with to hone in your idea.
for example when i do 3d stuff, I quite often put together image collages of items from the same theme as a sort of idea-pool to work from, staring at a blank canvas is no fun π
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1277522502
You guys talk about this one?
@visual jolt Oooh I hope they add something like this
hey just figured something cool for humanitarian stuff
prothesis or generally patched bodyparts
its one of the most crude and shocking sides of war
either as an accessory or as a civilian outfit
would be neat and would give a cool message
but you'd have to find a way so that you can't have weapons while wearing one
Would need to be an uniform/character.
I guess you can't really config a uniform to stop players from equipping weapons
you can π

simply add an EH on the unit, check for the uniform, and drop the weapon when in his hands
of course

Why do you think units you place in the editor always have different headgear? It's because there's a default init EH on all units which calls a function.
And you can easily extend that (even without CBA XEH's)
^8
thats cool, might try my hand at it
even if it doesn't end up in the art of war
mhm I can't open the uniform template p3d
I mean it would stop having an humanitarian message without them
people would just go around playing Big Boss
also true
anyone knows why the uniform template is restricted?
Restricted?
can't open them
You mean Windows blocks them?
no I just can't open them in OB or blender
do I have to debinarize them
what uniform template are you talking about? There is only character template and character example
in the art of war contest resources
https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/229119-art-of-war-model-templates/
You mean AoW_Clothing_F.p3d? Opens in OB for me
its basically identical to character example... you wont get the clothing model, if thats what you where expecting
I get an Unable to Load File
Load error
hm ok, well that sounds like somethings broken on your end. Opening works for me as well
I was hoping it could show me what was necessary model wise to make a uniform
how does the game know how to animate it when the player moves ?
should move this to model makers channel
What part of this rescue hoist system might qualify? https://youtu.be/vMgSw5ChzFc
Looking at the categories and topics that may be submitted, probably nothing...
Although I do like the idea of that hoist π
it even has dangerous spinning
very nice
rescue helicopter..hmm
art of war... this is a script/function - not game art. Looks like it requires ace too to work (body dragging).
I suppose in-action screen shot it is.
wow, now a simple screenshot is enough
you get a screenshot of the first price as reward
Is BI's plan to add stuff after submissions or do they have a list of things they are making on top of that?
Or is the categories made out for this competition stuff they won't be adding unless users submit content?
user submitted stuff gets added
wow, now a simple screenshot is enough
No its not.
Screenshots are allowed, but a "simple screenshot" won't get you any in-game featuring or winning any place
What kind of MODs to take screenshots are allowed? Everything except illegal things (of course)?
you need specific permission of the mods maker, cuz it will be somewhat commercial use if sold in DLC.
And you should also provide that with your submission
Thanks for the answer π
But mods and permissions is a headache generally, so keeping mod usage low is preferred π
Mine is free to use as I stated here so nobody's head will blow to animate some units!
so with the rules of the contest we obviously can't share around the 3d models or entry we submit, but are we allowed to post images/renders of the models?
yes pictures was allowed
Cool
I fear the only pictures I may be posting though are of how I can't get it to shade right we will see π
Hello all!
I've finally found my way to Discord!
Just to say, 'good luck' with the contest and that we're looking forward to seeing your entries!
Hi Kydoimos! π

hey a question
why is it an hard requirement to insert 2 adresses in the submission form?
do I need to buy a 2nd house or can I just reuse the 1st one?
I don't see what you are talking about, they only ask your address once
https://imgur.com/a/tMEAOzD
@mystic root screenshot from the form
Oh yeah, well that's not a second address, that's just the other part of your address but that shouldn't be required, someone who lives in a house is not able to fill that field π
yeah wasn't exactly sure what to write
I just wrote my full adress on both
And they will probably contact the winner so it shouldn't cause any issues anyways, but it would be nice if they fix it Β―_(γ)_/Β―
@queen schooner / @mystic root - thanks guys; I've amended the submission form. The second address line should no longer be mandatory! π
thanks
@sudden kiln can we send multiple models in one entry?
is it safe already for me to share my entry in social media?
no i steal it and make a .1% better version, and snatch victory away right in front of your nose π
i*ve been posting pics of my stuff for long time now
have not seen anyone elses posts anywhere though
the rules are written on the artofwar website
for props and stuff you cannot share the entry itself anywhere, as it will be bundled into a paid DLC. And if paid DLC stuff is also available for free.. thats stoop.
and there it says you can post pics π
but you can post pics
i misinterpreted then, thank you all
no pics tho πΏ
I'm not very proud of mine so I'm only showing it to close friends
I hope that the DLC includes all the assets that are vanilla quality rather than just the winners, the more quality content we can bring into Arma 3 the better! Hell I've even wondered why don't we start adding some must have mods into the game itself so less user interaction (prone to error) is needed.
I imagine that BI would have to recreate the mods for the base game rather than just using the original code because of licensing and stability reasons
So it'd propably take a while
But ye it'd be nice to see mods like EM integrated into the base game in some way, but thats off topic for this channel
I believe only the winners are incorporated and they would be added pretty much as is.
so a entry to win, it must also work
would be nice to see all the props and stuff added in the dlc
all the serious ones that is
remains to be seen I suppose
I wonder if there even are more than (what was it 6?) valid participants
at least for the models I think I've heard of 4 maybe 5
inb4 some lifer kid wins it with a prop he ripped from another game
when specifying the eden category for the props entry
do we just put them in the "things" category?
@queen schooner any hints ?
not until Im sure it'll work
i*ve been posting pics of my stuff for long time now
@odd sandal Where? π€€
OnlyFans
fancy
First version had a bit different body.
Head movement will probs be limited to animations only. Not sure if the free look head can be configured with needed restrictions for this one.
Is it a pet or UAV? Or both?
Wow thats really cool @odd sandal
@tiny pier in this time frame I think animal/prop is how far I can take it.
i'd buy 100% no questions asked
me too
but it did not quite work in game
lmao thatβs awesome
maybe I'll revisit that later
thats cursed as hell
imagine you're in war and you see a robot dog stealing your medical supplies and as you pass out from bloodloss he stands up and dances like this
@odd sandal what in tarnation
gangnamstyle
We're gonna need that robo-dog jig to be in the game. After it's idle for like an hour or something make it start dancing.
for 1 min until batteries are out

robo dog/goat would be awesome for scenarios, being able to lug out squad level gear on one of those would enable a lot of players and also might encourage more people to turn stamina on again
People need to learn to walk
...or start ditching their beloved lmg/launcher combo in favour of actually talking to their team about who brings what ^^
hey a question
I've noticed that the vanilla markers only have 25 nations
is there a reason for that?
oh should mention that it is AoW related
was thinking of having various flags on my object and was wondering how many I could use
Flag markers are like that for years. Defo not a AoW related thing
yeah I know but was wondering if I could use flags not present in the vanilla arma
don't see why not but figured I'd ask to be sure
Ah, I see your point...
like iran and china is missing
A)wondered if it was to avoid controversy
B)they only used the places with a large playerbase
C)simply laziness
Probably a very strong A.
so what do I do ?
stick to the vanilla flags or do I make it more inclusive?
I can understand the controversy that could originate for iran and china but I don't see the issue for stuff like brazil
One thing you can do IMO is include only official states and organizations flags
official states?
I mean, states included in vanilla. NATO, CSAT, Altis, maybe US, Horizon Islands, Livonia...
I did add all canon states except Horizont islands because I couldn't find any high res enough flag for it
but didnt add organizations because you dont really make funerals with NATO flags (do they?)
Hmm fair point
for context to other people
I've made a coffin with interchangable flags
https://imgur.com/a/P3AT6PD
Fancy
hiddenSelection textures with setObjectTexture ability?
that and a dropdown menu with flag selection which took me nearly 72hours to understand
@trim hare
hence the flag issue I was
asking about
do you know anything about it?
why we don't have more? no
probably because they aren't part of the campaigns
usually don't add stuff we don't need
exactly my point π
there are plenty of flags the game never uses but are ingame
unless I've missed the legendary luxemburg invasion of altis
If the A, B and C from above are your options, it's 100% C
yeah can't find any better pattern to those specific flags
probably gonna add every flag I can think of
As long as it has hiddenselectioions user can use any texture they like. I don't think anyone would hold it against you for using just what is in vanilla.
Make sure to include the Taiwanese and Tibetan flag.
I'm only missing the Horizont Islands flag
Hey I'm finally filling my entry submission and I have an awkward question
I kinda had bad history from using my name online and now I'm creeped out about it
is it needed for adress reasons or will it be public?
probably just for adress but I'm paranoid
Aren't they are for the prizes?
I'm sure they could keep your name private if requested. They would still need your real name for potential prizes and credits I believe.
yeah I guess so
I cant wait to see a BI tweet saying something like "Congratulations to <Sanchez's real name>(keep private please) for winning the art of war contest!"
yeah thats what flashed in my head as I wrote the entry
I just assume the real life people are based on their avatar.
So you always run around in a military uniform, got it
But for real though, it's definitely weird at first having your real name out there like that, just remember the internet is a massive sea of nothing. It would be like some one coming to Seattle and looking up my name, only to see like 30+ people exist with that same name.
I recently gave out my real name for something arma related for the first time
a guy reverse searched a pic and found my facebook and my house with it so yeah I'm terrified
Felt a bit weird to combine that yeah, but eh
I can imagine if people don't want their real name being published, and I'm sure BI respects that.
yeah I know but that creeped me out
sounds realistic
FM is 'Not Weird Al'. Dwarden is a living blackhawk with a wrecking ball.
my pic is fairly accurate
I just assume the real life people are based on their avatar.
wouldn't be surprised if people made researches about that
a blackhawk with a wrecking ball controlled by a neural network though, cant forget that @spring hollow
been sick for several years and running π
Maybe weird but understandable thing. I'm sure they'll leak nothing more than enough since I sent address and full name to BI several times to get shirt or so, yet only leak is my first name... for now
returning to on-topic
I'm a bit worried on the contest
haven't seen many people working on stuff and I'm terrified it might flop
really liked the idea behind it and humanitarian stuff is my favourite theme
That is why I was under the impression BI was going to have some default content on top of the submissions.
You can always enter wrong name and say (contact for real name when I win something)
I'm gonna guess they're gonna add the frames for the 2D art winners
should be fine
That's an idea
I was under the impression BI was going to have some default content on top of the submissions.
ye we have some stuff lying around that might be added from our side
Rail-gun main battle tank?
humanitarian metal gear
Morphine?
alright sent the entry
if I don't pass it means that there are other people than just a beginner like me, so win-win.
Btw since I cant remember oottomh, are all entried (of reasonable quality) or only the winning entries included in the dlc?
"reasonable quality" I'd say. If too many entries the bar will just be raised a bit I assume
I wouldn't complain about a larger DLC of reasonable quality...
If too many entries the bar will just be raised a bit I assume
judging by how it seems that not even the prosβ’οΈ seem interested in making stuff I doubt that will be a problem
"reasonable quality" I'd say
Yeah tahts what I imagined, otherwise it'd be interesting if we just got the standard grey box from blender as a dlc object
I mean some peeps are making stuff, like the doggo @queen schooner
But yeah havent seen much activity outside of that
The doggo is mediocre at best π€£π€£π€£
yeah but from what I'm looking at me and him are the only ones who seems to be doing something
and if it wasn't for me he would have not made the prop at all

But eh wouldnt be surprised if there are some peeps entering stuff that arent on the discord/not actively chatting here
if we're the only ones it means I've purposedly robbed the 1st place from my hands

it'd be a fun combat camera
so you don't risk cameramen getting shot i the face
for news media
Just give the doggo a medical box to carry around
@odd sandal
Actually I believe it fits perfectly in the DLC, just as much as the IRL version is being made to be deployed in places where it's too dangerous for people
It's made to save lifes
yea but the contests categories are a bit limited π
true
Im gonna try the prop one for sure but It may not pass
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
I'll have a robot dog from the effort though
So BI has to change the categories just for doggo π€£
give him a suit and make it into a funeral doggo
Make a statue version with a plate saying "Doggo went where no man dared to go. 2020-2035"
maybe talk to them directly about the doggo. Even if just the prop can enter the context, maybe the rest of it can be included in the dlc tho
I'll cross that bridge when I get a bit more work done on it. The extra days I found on the 15th have not yet had time for doggo stuff xD
That happened a lot in the last one as well i believe.
don't remember was it supposed to be an animal that roams around like the goats or a drone?
currently it is an animal yeah
Last competition didn't needed working content (some stuff is still not working/released, like TFAR 1.0 stable)
so in a broad sense of the word "prop" its kinda fitting
heard of doggos
As a retexturable prop, in the background of screenshots for LoW kinda scenes, it would be sooooooo good.
@tiny pier you mean MANW?
yah we entered with a very raw version of Lost Dragons to it xD
Have you ever released anything publicly HG? I couldnt find your workshop folder.
nope. π
he's making lost dragons the absolute psychopath madlad
my projects end up being big and timeconsuming
and then they grow some more
I guess I like the making of stuff more than getting them out there
The first 80% is easy and fun, the last 20% is pure hate
Or well yeah we released Lost Dragons Alpha back in the days after MANW
the coffin is my first fully working model with all lods and correct textures
but it grew too old so we pulled it off the shelve so to speak
It's called feature creep π
I will admit though the limited scope of each subject sorta turned me off on trying to make something myself.
you could make like a medal or a microphone
I was looking at Lost Dragon, and TIL that RHS got 200k as a reward for MANW
or 200 bucks and no cents
yeah we got into the final 3
we out there getting t-shirts
RHS just had few years of development ahead of us π
Release date of Lost Dragoons, 2035 actual. π
thats some big amounts of money being dished out there man
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
Eh maybe I'll see if I can get enough energy to make something, Guess if it's small it would take less then a week.
you have 2 weeks so you could make it
I'd make an entry but I'm neither good at drawing nor do I know anything about modelling/texturing
I was thinking of making a medal but I'm fine with an Ash urn, a coffin with interchangable flags and a big photo frame for funeral portraits
a urn with several texture variants would be nice
folgers coffee can π
texture with label on it "Coffee. NOT GRANDMA!"
Heh found a typo in the MANW FAQ
You can longer enter the Make Arma Not War contest.
oh yeah it'd be nice but I already sent the entry
maybe its not a typo
lets get modding boys
Make a CDLC?
wΓΆrk wΓΆrk wΓΆrk
was thinking about one
but I'm still bad at scripting
pushes out CDLC containing the standard grey blender box and sets price to 49.99 bucks
Ta-da, gimme the 200k pls @spring hollow

You know if all these events would of happened before I burnt myself out from TIOW deving I would of totally been down for all of it.
oof
I should actually try getting into modelling at some point
if it can be of any comfort I did not know modeling less than 15 days ago

I'm slowly getting back into it. Doing some animations and such.
Is giving the burial flag to close people strictly a American thing?
I have little idea what happens in other countries regarding military burial
if you mean the triangles I haven't seen any other country doing them
they do use the flag on the coffin luckly
if you search military funeral on google the first 20 pages are US
Yea, it's actually pretty amazing how hard it's to get information on other countries about military life. It took me several days of digging just to find a legit source on russian military organization/tactics.
*post WWII
it looks like US military funerals are part of the pop culture
Also I imagine that most other countries dont have as many funerals, but thats now based on any research
Zombie soldiers!
lol
idk were is all the EU peeps here to tell us these things?
What do Germans do to their vets after they die? Just toss them in a ditch? Normal burial? ect
Germans just say "good luck in your next war" and go back to work, cuz theres always work to do
Oh. That's... pretty much for farewell words
Viking Funeral props here we go.
What do you mean Altis soldiers don't get a "Sky Burial" during death? *Me explaining why I added a flock of vultures tearing at a body animation
If you do need to recover them, do you need to collect all of the birds or some of them?
in italy it seems similar to the US
I assume there is a difference in state funeral vs military in EU as well yea?
according to wikipedia all italian soldiers who die on duty have state funerals
Welp, guess going to spend a day researching all of this then.
Like did we get the whole flag folding thing from the brits? What do Greeks do? So many questions now. :S
do the brits fold flags aswell?
Not sure, but I know the flag folding had some sort of maritime tradition.
Which as far as I'm aware we adopted a large chunk of our ex's habits when we broke off.
Flag folding is a US military thing. Each of the 13 folds has a specific meaning...
TIL
nice coffin @queen schooner very good for 15 days modelling
thanks
is there a way to make sure your entry went through/modify it
I suppose you could always send another if you come up with some improvement
guess so
wouldn't want to spam
Hey guys, how is the contest doing?
submitted my entry
I am under the impression that most people did not understand the contest and so the submissions are pretty low but I could be mistaken
I guess the reason are the restrictive non military categories that everyone is used to
Yeah probably that π
Also the relatively limited categories overall imo
I mena what was it, paintings/art modelling and something else?
screenshots, 3d props and 2D art
its for charity anyway
I'd props buy it as a way to donate money and get something for it
screenshots, 3d props and 2D art
Yeah thats what I mean, thats pretty limited in terms of options for people
I guess we will know just how successful this was after they publish the donations numbers
if people aren't making static props I doubt they'd want to make vehicles and stuff like that
woul'd ve still been nice to have it as a possiblity
Physical 2D artwork and 3D models would be worth my money. I could use a model of a Merkava on my computer desk... it's boring only seeing a notepad and a coffee mug. π
its very hard to adhere to the rules if you own and use substance painter but not photoshop
I wonder if it would be acceptable to include the .spp file instead of a PSD
there were guide on how to make non PSD version
you can export a PSD version (of sorts) from substance painter anyways
you can but its not layered, if thats fine I guess its fine
from the requirements A layered, non-rasterized Adobe Photoshop (.psd) source file containing diffuse, normal, specular, and if applicable, ambient occlusion maps. If you are using software other than Adobe Photoshop that cannot export files in the .psd format by default, such as Paint.net, Gimp, or ArmorPaint, consider downloading an appropriate third-party plug-in. If you are unable to do so and would still like to enter the Contest, please export each individual layer in a .png format and add them to a zipped folder, labelled 'Texture Layers'. This folder may be placed in the root of your submission folder. Note that many programs, like Substance Painter, can now export files as .psd's.
gotcha thanks for the info
yeah, my trouble is that the substance painter PSD plugin requires photoshop
ill figure out a workaround anyway, I have something in mind
yeah, i just have 100s of layers in SP so im figuring out how
each texture is 1 file
you dont export all your 100 layers from SP
only the textures the model uses
and in the PSD each texture _CO, _NOHQ, _AS etc would be 1 layer
or if PSD is not something you can easily make, you put .png versions of each texture into the zip
ah I had a misconception it required the layers to be somehow there
I mean if its just like that then
i can probable handle it without really any concern atall
thanks again
best to read instructions very carefully
Doggos new look in game.
Out of the 30 xtra days I found month ago I managed to use maybe 2 to work on the doggo π
Oooh fancy
Do those news doggos needed to be cute at that level? π
can you add it to the vanilla dog skeleton?
oh lol
was wondering how it would have moved
my legs are bit too complex for that
it would not move
or well slide around
since the bones are not same
@digital fiber I suggest to use the Gimp for PSD files. I used it too.
Here is an example how the PSD file should look like: https://data.bistudio.com/artofwar/submission/Prop_Submission.zip
@odd sandal the doggo looks great. I hope we will see it in the upcoming DLC π
Thanks π
I hope I make it in time
test load
I must say this is meant to be as the large crate at the back is just right size to the carry frame xD
I recall there you could post the textures in other means
I have both paa and tga in my data folder
and have the separate texture layers as png in a separate folder called source
should be enough right?
oh wait no
needed it in a zipped folder called Texture layers
almost messed up
They could carry ammo boxes in battles π
this is a peaceful doggo :C
I know π
It could carry explosive charges into enemy territory π

f-false flag op!
Wait a minute... AAN? A war correspondent doggo? That's genius. Now just add a camera and a microphone on an extendable arm
it already has the front camera, I guess sitting on its back orifice could get high enough.
Otherwise he can just put his front legs onto the shoulders of whoever he's interviewing to get a good closeup
right on!
Maybe a 125mm cannon ontop the back
ah yes
I.E.D.
incoming exploding doggo
MK19 doggo when?
i am actually wondering how many people participated
Maybe they'll publish numbers at end
yeah maybe
for some reason i donβt expect all that many, way leas then in the βphotoβ category
You know the community
cargo secured
but damn I had to actually model the belts in OB xD
I like the style you made the buckle from only a box and nohq
if it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid
and if this doesn't get the first price I will storm the BI offices as if it was Area 51...
fancy π
@tiny pier its still quite possible it just does not fit the categories
If you make it as a prop standalone it will
But we'd surely love to get the interactive dynamic version too :3
it's a prop, and it moves, and it does a lot more... but it's still prop π
You cannot follow the encoding/packing guidelines set out for "props" in the AoW rules with that though
why not?
file structure is the same
and yeah there will be a static one too as an exhibition prop
the animal variant is just a bonus π
huh
I thought Prop literally meant static prop.
Apparently it includes animations, particle effects, sound effects

yello dogo
maybe I should leave the eyes as third camo selection
Go for it, so somebody can use it to make it UwU face
The doggening is real
Now make sticks as grenade objects and make it so doggo can play fetch
thats me submitted, good luck everyone, and HG your robo dog is so cool
thanks! and good luck to you too!
Gonna be cool to see what comes out of this!
The heat is on π
the clean expo version
future improvements could include uniform changeable colors and changeable backpack cargo
and there they go!
and many hours to spare
π
assuming I did not miss something
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
cheeky workaround the boston dynamics name lol
wait, is this a real thing with animations and stuff?
ok just saw the video. nice.
reading down further, it works as "animal" and not a drone?
@wind axle in this time frame I had to use, animal was as far I could take it. In the future Im planning to expand it into a character.
nice.
maybe add some backpacks left and right of it :>
as animation source, so it can be toggled on/off
As a character it could actually have swappable gear/cargo
Using vests and backpacks and so on.
you mean character as in "man" class?
dude If I learned to make High qual stuff like HG, the amount of abominable things I will put in the game that shouldnt be created by anyone will be astounding
@wind axle yes.
Also was there a confirmation email or some such for the entry submission? At least I did not get any.
you could message directly and ask if all is well
Who I spam about that @trim hare π
The guy with k
His name is too hard for my brain
Ahh he's not listed in BI Minion
oh forgot, not called Minion anymoe
Can literally point at a entire forum section and say "that guy" because ther's only one guy in there
@sudden kiln did my entry come through? π
also I had totally missed the whole forum section for the competition. πΏ Could have spammed my doggo pics there.
well fixed that at least π
Greetings, @odd sandal !
Thanks, we got your entry via the Google Form - most important thing is, you got it in before the deadline π . I'll be processing all the entries this week (it may take some time, there's a lot for the screenshot and 2D art categories!).
Cool screenshots, by the way!
Hello @sudden kiln if you don't mind if you are still looking at them, if only to set my mind at ease, would you mind confirming that mine got through as well? accessory category under the name "Josh Johnson". Thanks
Hiya, @digital fiber - it's there, you can set your mind at ease π - thanks for the entry!
On a general note, if there's any issues with a 3D entry, I'll reach out to individuals via email. It's important that we can at least view the entry and evaluate it; but don't worry, if there's a config error or something, it's easily resolved
oh thats awesome, I was a little concerned if I slipped up with the configs or something it'd get binned
and thanks for checking it π
Thanks @sudden kiln ! Eager to see what the rest of the entries are.
No worries! Good luck guys!
Thanks for the help Kydoimos, you don't usually get this kind of close support from contests like this
Well its Bohemia's first π
And just Bohemia being Bohemia at it π
Good Luck on your entry @odd sandal I like it!
Thanks! Pretty proud of it for the very limited time I managed to find to work on it.
it looks like still a fair amount of time went into it...
nah, just like 5 mins or something :>
I did not time it and some stuff I did redo but few days worth of effort
@quick sleet what?
Anyone wanna make this tumbleweed minesweeper? xD https://imgur.com/LipcyFd
@subtle mantle contest is already over. Id wager more talk will happen here when results come in.
any word on when the winners are announced?
Today a list of finalists will be announced
Prague is 0830 right now. You should expect this within 12 more hours
Anyway, good luck to everyone. I'll buy it anyways, of course in BI Store!
There has been some changes to the timeline of things, but this will be announced
.
so its not gonna be today?
@queen schooner, retroactively answering, no. Though there will be an announcement. π
u liars!!!!! u said its 5th!!!!
Time is a relative measurement of missing entropy
We also have a clause that reserves the right to modify in whole or part. π But don't worry, all will be explained.
Bohemia Interactive, the new Valve π€£
But to be fair, at least there was no big press release with a date and time, and than 3 years later still nothing π
If you only knew π€£
I believe contestants have received email.
I believe contestants have received email.
@odd sandal
Indeed, we've emailed all contestants who entered the contest by way of the submission form; @solid pike will be sending out direct messages via Twitter too. We intend to announce the winners a little earlier than expected, in August rather than September.
Massive thanks to all of you who've participated! And good luck! π―
cant wait to see the winners
Gonna be rad
100% Can't wait to see what everyone has entered.
my guess on distribution is hundreds of screenshots, maybe 3 dozend paintings and 12 3Dassets at best
and a partridge in a pear tree...
12 3d assets is quite optimistic :p
Yeah wouldnt surprise me if the amount of actually working 3d asset entries was in the single digits
tbh i find it hard to come up with smaller, more or less unique item ideas
most stuff already kinda exists... masks, helmets, ..
"most stuff exists" ... lol no
but yeah, i didnt want to sound too pessimistic π
my actual me would have said no more than 6
I could propably come up with some nice stuff to submit but I'm still at the very start of learning how blender works so
exo skeletons of various kinds, robotic drones of various kinds, medium (fully functional) ships , etc etc etc
also, map stuff (industrial buildings like steel works, chemical plants, ...)
and a stick bug model π
i was thinking more about clothes :p
smaller stuff
everything else is quite big in comparison
The categories were quite limited
clothing is probably going to be the less popular one as I don't see people having fun making a doctor coat
not that it isn't fun to model one but weighting and all must be hard
problem is the rigging when it comes to such clothes
other than that, a real doctor coat sounds like a good idea :p
it was literally in the suggestion part of the categories
wonder how many people made statues
wouldn't know where to even begin with those
Just some posed charicter models, decimate about x2 to rough them up, apply rock texture. π
yeah, statues is probably the easiest
i should have made a sheep statue
damn. missed chance.
if i had the time, i would have actually done the statues + sculpture thingy
that said, everything else in a category was pretty much covid oriented if you ask me
military funerals and journalism?
I do really hope some one rather BI or entries went ham on the journalist stuff.
Having a AAN news crew proper would be epic
You get AAN doggo
I personally went for a backpack
and having never played with weighting, notably in arma
I did suffer for it
wishing I went for a statue :P
Did someone do a rail gun mbt firing care packages?
And AAN... man, fake news... Lopotev was no war criminal π https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq1UE25stBs
Then again, AAN have nothing on the Chernarussian broadcaster CERT24 who tried blaming the bombing of the Bardak & Sons Distillery on the National Party and their leader Prizrak which just shows that no media should be trusted... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZeix1hUqyI

Looks like its only the 2D stuff
there's a paragraph on the top about 3D
The contest held five categories for contestants to enter. The 2D Art and Screenshot (Bonus) categories in this contest received a high volume of entries, leaving us with a great pool of quality artwork. It certainly made for a hard decision to choose the winners. Unfortunately, the 3D Art categories (Prop, Clothing, Accessory) of the contest simply did not receive enough entries. In total we received only a handful of candidates and we felt that the quality did not meet the requirements to be considered as winners or featured in the charity DLC. However, those who did enter something into these categories will still receive a participation prize, in recognition of their efforts.
so no doggo in arma?
why not add the dog? it was pretty nice

i sort of expected that tbh, considering the very limited amount of categories.
doggo was obviously nais, but didn't fit in any of these preset cats
I think most people here were expecting that the 3d categories in general wouldnt get a lot of entries
I thought sanchez's coffin would make it
the dog is a great model but i thought it might not because of the categories
not sure what sanchez did for the contest
made a coffin
didn't the AAN dog fitted the journalist category?
well, these days "content creators" has a different meaning than what i am used to...anyways, not gonna go there
I guess it does yeah, I just thought perhaps a little too far future for the universe, I don't really knwo though
I mean, those things exist, and its not an insane though that they could be useful in 15 years
true yeah
to be honest, now i really am curious about what were the things that were submited in the 3d cat
I didn't post mine atall yet might as well now
@queen schooner nope it didn't, because that category was a ton more specific
thats very nice
I hope that BI still puts at least some of the community creations into the DLC in some form
and I like how it fits one of the already existing props(sleeping mat) did you proxied it or modeled it?
to keep the poly count low i modelled my own sleeping roll mat
and just made it look the same
looks nice, I like civilian stuff
if the 3d is scrapped/unaccepted we should recieve an email to know we can post on workshop right?
I'd wait until you hear something from BI about it
I think in the T's and C's you can do what you like as soon as you find out its not being used
but I might as well wait
the t&c were that we were not allowed to publish stuff we added to entries
until we knew we failed or won
Participants may promote their Entries with visual reproductions but must not share source material, either publicly or with specific third-parties for the duration of this Contest. Further, Winners of the Contest and owners of selected Entries must do likewise until 12th September 2021.
i.e. wait until BI lets you know
A. Prop
A1. A statue.
A2. A sculpture.
A3. A prop related to news media.
A4. A prop related to military funerals.
B. Accessory
B1. A backpack.
B2. A facewear item.
B3. A headgear item.
C. Clothing
C1. A life vest.
C2. A parade dress uniform.
C3. A formal suit.
C4. A doctor's outfit.```
i think honestly all of these would have had to be in sort of way related to a pandemic, at least in my mind that's how all of that played together
it was 12th because that was the original winners announcement
weird to wait a month for bureocracy
I'd wait for confirmation - yes/no - before publishing anything as per the competition rules
would've been more specific if they wanted it to be covid specific
but yeah I'm waiting for confirm
what i would have done, if i would have been allowed to partake, which i wasn't:
a1. some sort of god of health (ideally Greek - so Asclepius)
a2. some sort of medical oriented sculpture
a3. a handheld videocamera of sort, including the overlay and stuff. thing is, i already have ones of these done already and ingame, but that's a WW2 one - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/e5Jr6
a4. a coffin surely.
b1. a medical (ER) backpack
b2. a n95+ mask
b3. some sort of mask protection
c1. self explanatory - related to ER, non military
c2. self explanatory
c3. self explanatory
c4. self explanatory
I was working on a1 themed item, but work stuff got in the way π
The contest was not intended to be COVID or pandemic oriented.
And in terms of publishing things, I would wait for confirmation. We'll be reaching out shortly to everyone.
@solid pike cheers for the explanation, that's how i perceived it anyways
same ^
Yeah problem was, TONS of people were either busy, or plain not allowed to participate.
Most professional model makers are hung up in CDLC development currently so, couldn't really expect much input in the first place
Like I think I heard of atleast half dozen top people that wanted to do stuff, but couldn't because of bad timing basically
Hiya guys! Indeed, we really appreciate the 3D entries we did receive and recognize a lot of work went into some of them; Nillers and myself will be reaching out very, very soon
Even if some of the entries don't win any (main) prices, i hope we can still include some of that stuff?
#unleashthedoggo
we'd need a mini-dscha in game for that tho π
Game would be R-Rated then
obvs in the same pose as profile pic π
@solid pike but there was some theme in the back of your heads, was it not?
a recurring theme along categories was modern war technologies and the effect they had on humanitarian missions.
The only theme requirement was the 2D Art category, but I'll let @sudden kiln field this question. π
2D art theme was hard i must say
I really didn't expected to even be at honorable mentions
Quite satisfied and happy with 3rd place
the beehive one was pretty good, weird that it didn't get the podium
Euphoric to say the least
yeah sorry
from Mark Bailey
a recurring theme along categories was modern war technologies and the effect they had on humanitarian missions.
@queen schooner that was just for 2d stuff afaik
yeah I guess it was
Regarding the question on themes for the categories, the 2D art category was the only one per se ('International Humanitarian Law in Future Conflict'), however, it's true that the options (or 'subjects') for the 3D categories were quite thematic and definitely had some 'humanitarian' cross-over.
alright
i like the locust one, it pushes the humanitarian and very real harms to humanity and risks of mass famine that come with locust swarms.
it sounds like a really cool concept to fire swarms of locusts on enemy farms to cause starvation
albeit terrifying
there's actually a huge swarm that moves between asia and africa, which is growing at a rapid rate, so we may yet see food production decimated in those areas.
introducing foreign crops/insects into countries where they have no naural enemies IS a thing.
those 90's african famines we in part caused by those and various wars aswell,
Yes, Mark Bailey's submission was very good (one of my personal favourites, for sure). Our colleagues at the ICRC really commended his work. I'm sure it was a tough decision for the jury! I was shocked to learn that this technology exists today.
drone swarms?
Intel have been showing them off via visual light displays around the world, doesn't take much to make the jump from fancy light show to weaponised remote control technology.
if you throw intel drone display into a youtube search, you can see how advanced the choreography is π
sounds like its exactly the kind of thing those new rehinmetal turrets are meant for
Someone missed the opening of the Olympic Games in Pyengchang (2018)
https://newsroom.intel.com/news-releases/intel-drone-light-show-breaks-guinness-world-records-title-olympic-winter-games-pyeongchang-2018/
there are a few national militaries which are proposing thier use in combatting drones too
Hi guys, so here's my submission. Maybe I will publish it on the Steam Workshop after BI's confirmation.
http://ksvoboda.cz/projects/aow_casket/
oh cool yours is openable

Any place where i can find a full critic and commentary about the submitions?
More specifically the 2D category
No direct winners in 3D category doesn't mean no prices and no inclusion in DLC.
However, those who did enter something into these categories will still receive a participation prize, in recognition of their efforts.
π
I mean, if someone got in the DLC and got a price why not just calling it a winner?
#announcements / #socials @wind axle

would have seen it if it had appeared in the launcher
i think the locust thing is pretty smart. i certainly didn't thought of that.
Yeah its a way of war that isnt commonly thought about
might have been better to get some a3 ingame stuff
it would be easy to do. make a copy of the fly or bee animals, turn them into locusts, create a simple 3d model for the container, etc. sure needs a bit skill, but not tremendous
Feel free to be the change you want to see π
nah, i don't have the time for that. but the person already made the container model as far as i can tell. so half the heavy work has been done.
for the locusts effect, the mosquitos from old man could be copied and slightly modified
tbh, if i had known about this before, i probably would have helped with it :p
I also was pretty moved by the locust one... quite haunting when you think about it
I'm a fan of the locusts too, I thought it was a wasp bomb until the further clarification here but its a great quality model etc
is he around here somewhere? if he can give me the 3d model with 2 or 3 lod levels, I might get it into the game. I'd certainly waste some time with it, simply because it's a cool idea :p
the only question i have - how close was my asessment? π ( "my guess on distribution is hundreds of screenshots, maybe 3 dozend paintings and 12 3Dassets at best")
I guess way more than reality
i need to know, so i can frame the reply and hang it on my wall... underlined by golden letters "i guessed right on the interweb!"
brilliant, thanks
yes
~dedmen 2k20
Shame no 3d assets won :c
Can we still have the doggo HorribleGoat made? π
If nothing else then as a mod.
I have further plans for making it a full character
"naked" version would be just the internals
and then different hull types and payloads would be uniforms and vests and so on
so fully utilize the inventory system for customization
shaven
full fur
π
yeh, look pretty good
i guess it wasn't polished enough yet to make the cut for the dlc?
or maybe potential copyright issues
I mean, I can understand wanting a degree of quality but I hope they didn't just expect to get a large amount of DLC quality content
the doggo was pretty good
would have to see it ingame to really be able to judge it :>
i think hardest part usually is to get the textures right, with all the ambient, shadow, shader, whatever stuff
On the plus side at least we get some new in-house assets, shame the doggy didn't make the cut, it's one of the most cool and original things I've seen in a while.
The doggo maybe did not fit any of the categories. Was a bit risky entry.
π
But since the idea came when I just read the theme of the competition and was half way ready with the design when I read the actual categories I though why not try.
well, if you end up releasing it in the workshop you could strap a gun onto it, just saying... :D
since it doesn't have to follow the humanitarian theme anymore
dear god...
Best part in that is that the doggo is moving on its own animal behaviour
Also its fun how a 2D artwork of a doggo carrying soldiers got accepted but the actual 3D model of one didn't
That theme it did fit.
the AAN dog did fit too but thats a pointless argument at this point
True true
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nUmJvV5szT4
π attach a CIWS to the doggo
how about tow launcher
Anything can be attached. But when I make such weapon platform I want it to stay stablizied in all movement.
Sinc cant make attached things follow animations properly
i would just polish up what's there right now :p
a rider with a gun? how primitive... a lance would be the only correct weapon
with explosive tip, naturally
Surely a .50 cal MG is long enough to use as some kind of lance?
id like to see you hold one like it^^
just attach a bayonet
To the people who made 3D content, wait for a Mail from BI telling you that your content won't make it into the DLC before you publish it somewhere and potentially violate the submission terms
do we have to wait until september for this email?
i guess its until you received the "participation price" , because BI needs the conditions to be met it to be able to legally give a price (and not raise eyebrows of tax inquisitors)
Anyplace where i can find the full critic on the 2D category?
dont think there is such
oooh... thought they kept the whole analysis registered
would've been rad to know what was missing in our stuff
I thought this was going to be underwhelming... but so far it is even worse than I had imagined...
@queen schooner, I'll be sending out some emails before September - within the next few days (possibly later today even)
. Regarding critiques of entries, I'm afraid we don't intend to share anything publicly. Individual participants though, are free to email us at artofwar@bohemia.net. We can't promise detailed constructive feedback, but y'know, maybe we can answer a few questions. To be sure, preparing game-ready assets really is a complex and challenging task; and we did see some fantastic efforts, with plenty of promise
. For anyone desirous of more wide-ranging feedback, I'd also recommend sharing screenshots of your work with others on the Bohemia Interactive forums; there's always some great advice being shared there and some excellent pointers for future projects
.
Thx kydo
I was shocked to learn that this technology exists today.
@sudden kiln If you are referring to the "locust bomb" device, I actually invented it for this project. Perhaps similar devices are being tested in a lab somewhere!
Ah, I see! π I did indeed misread the inspiration, with the image being inspired by more conventional air strikes in Yemen on agricultural areas. The closest thing I could find to modern usage was a Cold War operation, named 'Big Itch', which involved testing for entomological warfare with propagation by standard munitions (in this particular case, using uninfected fleas). As you say, perhaps biological weapons like this are still being secretly developed somewhere. It's a very interesting subject - and I love the fact that your art, @vague frigate , promotes discussion! π― I for one have definitely learnt something new!
locust bomb? how about (anti) bomb locust? https://www.scmp.com/news/world/united-states-canada/article/3098075/swat-team-us-navy-experiments-cyborg-locusts-find
Then again in the middle ages shooting rotting carcases at your enemy was a thing already.
@odd sandal Could you make one with a GBU mounted on top... don't ask why, make sure the GBU is armed
Besides the drawings... did I miss something about the contest or that is what was released so far?
@bleak hedge
@fervent spruce Thank you! Does that mean that they have nothing to release for the DLC or will BI supply the new content for it?
We will have in-house assets for the DLC. π
https://arma3.com/news/arma-3-art-of-war-contest-winners-revealed
Cool Nillers! Can't wait to see what the DLC will have in store for us π
Would be cool and I would personally buy the DLC if you manage to include a portable/headlight flashlight
There are many weapons that do not accept flashlight attachments and cannot really be used on a night scenario wihout mods, would be great if Arma 3 includes something for those by default, would increase the gameplay and scenarios possibilities greatly.
headlight
engine limitations π
I meant something like MrSanchez' Headlamps https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=930264602
Sorry for the bad wording...
@visual jolt Yeah, I am just saying that something like that would be a great selling point for any future DLC, as it will fill a gap currently in Arma 3
Wherever BI takes the suggestion or not is up to them...
looks a bit stupid tho π
and you just know that people will be all like "waah waah there isn't even a mine shaft / cave system to explore while wearing lights on our heads" :>
i dont have any other lamps other than head lamps... π€·ββοΈ and i never visit caves or mines
I honestly am stoked for any sort of news crew stuff we get.
Always wanted to add a slot in my liberation for civilians to document the war. π
just released my entry on the workshop @digital fiber @odd sandal @foggy wigeon
are you gonna do the same?
eventually
I have done a full hard drive swap around of all my stuff so I need to reset my arma tools etc
Yeah I'll release mine too but got 0 time to think about it atm.
yeah i'd also like to work some changes into the model before I think about releasing too
so it'l be some time
Yeah I'm a bit between releasing and then doing my planned additions or doing the additions first and then releasing.
Then again my plans are quite extensive so maybe I should make the initial release so people can see if they can use it in any way.
The doggo as an animal is not very simple to use without it wandering away xD
players will likely expect to be able to use it as more than just window dressing :>
Doggo should be controllable with UAV terminal imo
yea
thats considerably harder to do if I had to guess
I'd love them even as static props.
Oh it's pretty simple to set up really. Just need to find the time to do everything.
Just curious if any winners have received their prizes yet?
no
I assume "no" means they haven't been sent out yet...
yep
Hey Im curious did anyone win the mod part of the competition? and is so when is that getting added in?
no-one won that nope
poor doggo π¦ I liked it.
Soooo.public release of doggo? π
When I have time
Doggo isnt dead yet
revenge of the doggo
for that I'll need lazers
According to an email I received from @sudden kiln prizes were sent out on the 9th October, has any other prize winners received there packages yet?
nope, I guess covid is slowing things down, not sure how much it takes in these cases
Not yet, I imagine it takes a while to send things during covid from czechia
Package has arrived!!....and filled with a few nice surprises that I wasn't expecting, BI are so cool.
π
π I only got the tracking number for the package an hour ago and the tracking site doesn't even recognize it yet. Guess it was shipped just today.
setacctime 64;
All I can tell you, based on tracking info, package was dispatched Monday 2nd received Friday 6th, UK via Royal Mail @pure lance
That was quick then I suppose. Let's see how many times my parcel travels around the country in the hands of our postal service
It'll be worth it when it comes.....π
don't have have a tracking number
check your email
oh that was like
Sanchez, when we getting the coffin dance animation? π
Need to bury Miller with style.
turns out animations are hard
Any updates on the release date and content of this DLC?
Afaik no
https://twitter.com/David_Mustache_/status/1325794198910619650 My Art Of War Price
congrats π
Many thanks
thats pretty cool. next dlc should give us eastwind device
I think shipping a real life eastwind device would be a bit too expensive
only for the country who has to repair the caused damage
Eh, I think the overweight-charge is gonna be a lot too
They have a T-72 in CDF colours, anythings possible
did they ever made a art of war dlc or was that a contest?
its a contest that started and ended this year, it has not been released yet but it will
oh i thought it was going coming out this year or is this expansion have a bigger campaign then rest? and is that why its taking awile and releasing it next year?
A large part of why its probably going to take a while is that the 3D section was curtailed, so BI artists will have to make all the assets
there is not gonna be any campaign in it, just assets and a small museum scenario
oh damn it and what assets are you talking about like a new faction of units or no?
if he knew, he wouldnt be allowed to tell π
you can find out most of what you need in the link in the channel description
I'm obviously not in the know but I can say its almost certainly not a new faction
more than likely it'l be the following:
And I doubt that anyone entered a full faction into the contest
doggo would probably need some friends for such π€
dog swarms
im having to battle against the customs in order to receive my prize
its being a almost 2 weeks battle, but im confident things will end well
yeah there's no sign of mine either. I assume they're still putting the finishing touches to the early Arma4 alpha copy they're shipping with it.
I've recieved my copy
it was a trap
now miller is inside my computer and is destabilizing the system
well
it is miller.. some times you just have to introduce him to a bullet to the face and he won't bother you anymore
You shouldn't of asked questions Sanchez
considering the "new delivery standards" of just dropping the package in front of the door if nobody is at home (no matter if its right in the street), dont be surprised if it will never arrive.
Yep happened to me recently, the delivery guy just kinda leaned it against the door and rung the bell and left
we dont have that around here I think
Here they try to "hide" the package when they do that
Saw a package, shoebox size, "hidden" under a doormat π
(Sorry offtopic, had to share that tho)
yet

π€
you even got the fancy silver coin (if I'm seeing it right)
