Warlord was a nice try, I probably did spend hundreds of hours there, if afk time included probably 2k bc those sessions simply take too many hours. I suppose redux is the only thing that comes close to the original route of sandbox but it takes lot of time to create and fix

Second off, public zeus being used for recruitment was always a thing and honestly I never saw it as a particular issue as it technically raised mission quality standards when it was happening.
If you're trying to recruit players for your unit, you want to show your unit can produce good arma experiences, so you get one of your unit zeuses and somebody who usually squad leads and hop on pub zeus and start organizing things about.

I say this as somebody who was on both ends of this multiple times over, they were a good thing and did not make pub zeus worse.

Third, advertising is against the rules because it's annoying, not because it's prevalent, look at any game's discord and they will have advertising of your clan/unit/group/server against the rules unless done in a specific channel(as this discord has those as well)

Most of them are at best okay, but all of them are plagued with drama, immature leaders, mission quality issues, behavioral issues, etc.

I'm talking from like the largest units possible(that have "regiments" for each milsim-like game) to the smallest units(groups of 10-20), there'll always be some issues you have to deal with or reconcile with.

Finding a community you fit in and enjoy takes effort, there's no mistaking it nor sugarcoating it, but it's well worth it.
For those who don't want to go through the effort of finding these niche groups, public servers fill the role.

I don't think making arma more accessible is necessarily a bad thing, as I watch Reforger and its Xbox community sort of grow and pace out, despite being in its infancy stages, there could be good potential there.
Accessibility doesn't necessarily have to harm a game, but it can; Case in point, Quick Play is probably the most unnoticed yet prominent problem that plagues public zeus for a new player.

You open up the game, first time, skip the tutorial(because people love not doing tutorials, no matter how hard Arma may try to convince you otherwise), and then they see the Quick Play interface, and can choose some general gamemode filters, and hope the matchmaker knows what it's doing and plops you into something good. it does not. Quick Play will biasedly target official servers for players before anything else, which means that if a player just wants to play arma but doesn't know what, it will drop him into public zeus.

The matchmaker makes no distinction in what a player wants other than just "gamemodes" even though that is a very vague term for a game like Arma, you can't just search by "gamemode" because some avenues of the game are so different that you're touching on two entirely different games. "Any" could drop you into anything from Altis Life to King of the Hill to Warlords, it has no real sense in it.

You don't make a player choose you make him avoid choosing and then end up with an experience he just didn't want.

And the game will shove quick play in your face on the main menu as well, because server browsers are seemingly too difficult for the average player now(despite Reforger still having them)

The quick play menu is stupid - either make your game completely noob-accessible with big simple buttons, or have a functional interface that gives players everything they need to access the scope of the game

(the latter is obviously suitable for arma)

It's why public zeus had a huge drop in player quality around the release of Apex, it's actually incredibly funny

At the time Apex dropped with this feature it ALWAYS put people into pub zeus

Regardless on if they actually want to play pub zeus or have the mindset for it

They just downloaded arma because they saw x youtuber play koth or whatever, they don't know any better.

Then again, public zeus also was as good as dead pre-apex update, so you could say it was a double edged sword.

Milsim communities are not gonna make the jump to Arma 4 until it comes, which it currently has not. Reforger is an interim project which has nowhere near the amount of content and quality Arma 3 has, this was the same thing with Arma 2 to Arma 3, it took most communities 5 years into Arma 3's release to switch over.

I think frankly that Reforger as it is shows great promise for the average consumer though, it's very approachable and Conflict is a great way to dip your toes into the water before you decide what you want to play Arma for, it's just that there's not much else other than dipping toes for the game rn.

Hell Reforger has like probably the single most important thing that an Arma game could have - the ability to load or unload mods WITHOUT restarting your game, just clicking to join a server and simply being put in without a "you need 500 mods, please install them."

There are quite a lot of places for it, absolutely no shortage of them, but a lot of them require some level of commitment

I know people with actual experience in the military often tend towards the closed units with more mature people since they don't like getting ordered around by kids and such

There are multiple defaults already set up in the game that you can switch through and pick, but if you do want to take somebody else's keybindings and use them then you go to documents > arma 3 - other profiles > (your profile) > swap your .Arma3Profile file with the one you acquired(be aware you lose all your settings, progress on SP content, servers saved/favorited, etc. etc. by doing this)

As for pub zeus, teamkills aren't really punished for their reasoning rather if anybody complains and brings it to the attention of the admin.

you need to have "next target" bound to something from controls > weapons

You press on that while you have a bomb selected and it will auto-select a laser target

And also, when we eject from our own damaged plane, the plane crash is considered as destroying a friendly vehicle and triggers a warning ! (As well as shooting an abandonned vehicle if that vehicle was abandoned by a friendly...)

Hi guys, I am new in Arma 3. Been practicing for few days now with Jets in editor mode. Just wanted to know how to actually join a server as pilot as i couldnt figure it out. Thanks for helping in advance.

You'd need to find a server in which the mission requires a pilot and also is willing to let you fly, there's no real way to filter for those other than just looking around. Generally Invade & Annex and other large-player co-op scenarios make use of pilots but far as I know they only let people who play on the servers a lot fly.

Public Zeus is ironically the easiest place to get into the pilot seat of a jet, though you could easily get on people's nerves, the zeus or the ground players.

The server i usually join has few players flying jets and helicopters. I tried asking some of the players but they dont seem to know. Also when joining the server, it doesnt show any specific role. It says role can be changed in-game but i found nothing.

Hey could anybody recommend any good PVP servers, vanilla, I've got some dlcs and I'd like to go into a PVP server where I can use that stuff. Lately I've been playing warlords v2.5 or whatever and I've been enjoing that, but the lack of players and having tons of bots make it kind of boring.

@open lagoon Some King of the hill servers have armed jets. There is a minimum number of active players to reach for the jets to be unlocked (from 20 to 60 depending on the server) and most of them require a minimun level to play jet, wich is a bit anoying cuz u have to rank up for quite a wile by playing infantry before being allowed to play jet, wich is stupid cuz playing a lot of infantry doesn't makes u a beter pilot obviously. The official koth stress test server has jets and every player start with lvl 45 wich is enough for playing most of the jets, but this server seems to have some connection issues lately, but still playable

I would like some help from you, I wanted updated documentation on how I can set up an Arma 3 server, unfortunately I only got a video and documentation that didn't help me

Lately I tried to set up a server, went through that whole process, downloaded SteamCmd, and installed TADST.
I created Windows firewall rules, and released them on the GCP platform on the edge firewall, but unfortunately I was not successful

I would like to know what you use to run the server.

Use some bat, or some other platform, help me keep the Arma 3 community alive.

To host a server or a game session locally, you need to make sure first that your WAN address / external IP uses the IPv4 protocol!
Check your router’s status page in the settings to confirm. (If in doubt, ask your ISP, Websites like “whatismyip.com” give you a false positive!)
Local servers and games can not be hosted on an IPv6 network, or IPv4 via DSlite tunnel!

Hey I know this is an issue from the 2.0 update in 2020, but as others have suggested, it would be really cool to have custom faces back on official. I know it's not as simple as just adjusting the server settings, as that would also allow custom radio to be played (which I hear was "abused"), BUT in another more recent update, you guys DID separate some audio settings (VoN and Direct Chat), so I'm wondering if the same kind of QoL change can be done with the face/radio settings, and then updated on the official servers. Now, my main thing is the custom faces, but I will argue for the custom sounds as well, since it will be easier for you to just re-enable them instead of doing the update. So, assuming the "abuse of custom sounds" meant that people were playing racist audio or something, how does disabling it outright change anything? People are still being edgy and saying the N word all the time in public servers and they just play any audio they want through their mic or soundboard... make it make sense.

I never saw him cheating and I won't comment on that part unless I see rock solid evidence or seen it myself but he's nowhere as good as others I've seen. I'm far from the top roosters but I did never struggle to send him back to the respawn area I still remember he ragequit a few times because Opfor veterans grounded all his jets and made his playtime more challenging. His bot-style provocations "red team bad bad" is all I remember whenever I saw him lol
If people struggle to kill Marii, well that's certainly a skill issue.
If you genuinely believe it's him who uses the auto turret glitch, there is a simple solution. Switch teams and follow him around if that makes any of you happier.

You guys are lucky the vanilla warlord servers still allow team switching in middle of the game. Redux fortunately fixed that issue, so they don't need to send over someone just to stalk potential cheaters (and it's not possible anyway)

Having an ongoing problem for the last few months or so with public zeus. About 80% of the time i hop into a zeus slot on a script enabled server and attempt to use my steam subscribed compositions none of them are showing up. On steam it is saying that it is downloading/updating arma but gets stuck in a constant loop of starting and stopping the download/update at 0%. Pretty sure a few other people are having this problem but it is frustrating having to constantly reload my game, restart my computer, or verify my game files.

Why does my server list keep deminishing?? I start the game and go to SERVER BROWSER > OFFICIAL SERVER tab and they're all there. Then I go into a server, and when I come out, there's only half the number of servers. Then when I go into another server or click on a different tab and come back there's nothing there until I restart Arma from the Launcher. This has been happening all year. It was never like this before; maybe like 5 updates ago. Why's it doing this!??

Who can I talk to about a new Warlords mission on any official server? For example, I am the creator of the first zombie Warlords etc. and I know the mode very well. I have played Warlords on official servers for almost 4,000 hours and would like to discuss a balanced version with expanded troops. (It's all ready already) I would just adapt it to official needs but as I said I would like to discuss it with someone. I have 14,000 hours in Arma 3, love the game and the community, and would like to at least contribute something to a fairer game.

Sometimes yeah, it's just the side-effect of being a public server with a "democratic" system of mutual respect between Zeus and Players

Don't view them as Trollers tho unless they are actively sabotaging your mission

They simply have different views than you on how they want their zeus missions to play out.

While I personally haven't been kicked as a Zeus, I've stopped zeusing for a really long time in regards to pub zeus(despite how fun Zeusing is in general) because people have just come to expect full arsenals available at the start of every mission, or always some helicopters or planes to play around with.

I think I found the issue. I changed my difficulty setting back to Regular from Veteran and comms were working fine on Zeus official scripted servers where I couldn't talk at all. Is this a bug or intentional design? Edit: Will update this edit if if the issue recures.

Starting without any mods would be your best bet unless you have a specific time period or conflict you want to experience

Start from the VR Training(not actual VR) in the main menu or the bootcamp/campaign and see where you want to go from there once you understand the mechanics of the game, if you want to roleplay as civilians or robbers or stuff like that Altis Life is a good point to move towards, if you want something more military then you'd need to look into joining a unit #communities_arma3

Nope, it'd restrict you from operating certain vehicles or equipping certain stuff but it'll warn you beforehand, worst case scenario is if you try to join on a server running Livonia or Tanoa and you don't own the DLC that provides those terrains.

You get what it says on the apex store page, no more no less.

Remember that a lot of the price with stuff like Apex is dragged by Terrain as it takes far more to design Tanoa than it does to design maps in any other game since it's a fully sandbox map that outscales even some open world games that also charge you for far more.

Another faction could just be a list of soldier loadouts that all look the same as any other one.

It's like having 500 different variants of the same hamburger, with one topping difference.

You'd get very little value out of jets in ArmA

Even people who are absolutely dedicated to playing jets at best get maybe like once in a week a chance to use it and with arma it's just not fun since even the biggest of terrains can be crossed by jets in 5 seconds

Not to mention the high demand you always get to such a role, it's a tough thing to get value of

HOTAS would get you far more value if you're into flying helos since they're way more common in ArmA's gameplay(not to mention more fun within its confines)

If that is not keys not signed with .pbo, but pbo not signed with key, you might be running addons.
If you try to join a server that has signature verification (most of them) turned on and does not run this addon itself, you won't be able to join

So make sure you're not running any addons.

If you are sure, verify the game files.

Use Disk Cleanup on your windows, and go to your appdata(local, locallow, roaming) and delete all arma 3 folders there

Pinging Dwarden won't change anything, best is to use http://feedback.arma3.com/ to let BI investigate the issue, maybe there are more people with the issues.

Also happens to me too. After two refreshes, the list does shrink and by the third refresh, all the official servers are not listed. One workaround for it (if you do not want to exit the game) is to do direct connect by entering the address and port number. Otherwise, restarting the game is the only to see the whole list.

To find server address and port number, either use BattleMetrics or arma3-servers.net.

I have not had an issue with A3 not recognising my mic. Make sure it's set correctly.

Yeah it’s a bug with the interface in game, best use to join from the launcher or the inbuilt server section in steam

You can sometimes only see the offical servers once, but when you refresh it’s gone and you gotta restart the game

Really annoying bug and hopefully dwarden fixes it or smth

Are scripted public zeus servers offline? I can connect to non-scripted zeus servers and warlord servers too, but scripted servers are just hanging on a loading screen with no loading bar or system chat text displaying login event updates

von is not actually disabled and hasn't been for a very long time, the server message just hasn't been changed

Are you sure your mic is marked as the default sound input on your PC?

Also that it's unmuted, actually having audio come in through, pressing the right hotkey to use VC, etc.

OFFICIAL pub zeus servers are lasting about 30 mins then booting all the players out due to battle eye/ steam ticket checks and whatnot. common problem all week . its not you... its the servers atm.

i clearly explained that like 65535 times already ... either there will be no scripted servers or there will be issues like such 'insecurity'

so it would need to remove everything what obtain extra info

it's the same problem since people demanded to have servers where the collections and partial scripting is allowed

fortunately collecting some IP addresses means nothing except a general idea of players geolocation or to be precise their ISP and unless you hack the ISP too, you will never get any private information out of it. Not to mention most of them are dynamic IPs

since IP addresses do not reveal any personal information, I see no direct danger and hacking ISP in European countries don't seem "easy" to me

I mean you still need to know the open ports on an IP in order to actually get anywhere

If it weren't for Steam deciding to make it so it obfuscates your IP address every game that uses steamworks would have this issue

P2P games suffer this especially since computers in a P2P game trust each other a ton and as such expose their IPs quite easily

But when it was that way, and even before that when custom compositions weren't a thing, there were countless people asking, arguing, and beggining about enabling scripts on pub zeus

The average pub zeus player is willing and enjoying the state as it is and does not see an issue with the security flaw that it is

There's a reason that often the only populated pub zeus servers are the ones with scripts enabled
