heh, it was an old joke, when the username was first chosen in the nineties my mates would often introduce me or point me out by saying "the ginger bloke over there is ..." and it just stuck. Some early multiplayer games limited the length of the username, especially when you added clan tags. So it got abbreviated and eventually I just became GB in teamspeak/chat so the username evolved to GBee (since GB was just too short).

Was there any particular reason why the current rules were softened (or appear to be)? Do you find that there is an increase in unwanted behaviour as a result? Don't get me wrong, I'm not "questioning" the logic or authority behind it, it just seems to have changed drastically from what I had becomed accustomed to.

@normal lily when the forum software was updated about two years ago, the fprums rules were indeed trimed down a bit. Most of the main rules were kept in place, but it was trimmed back a bit to make the rules a little more flexible. We could always revisit them again and add back in any details, if it makes sense. Are there any details you feel is lacking?

It may just be nostalgia on my part, but it seems the old rules were more specific. In that respect, new users seemed to adhere to them and acted with a bit more decorum and respect. I don't want to say that the Forum is now the "wild west", but from my perspective, it does appear to be a little less welcoming and seems to be lacking a bit of the "community spirit" that we once enjoyed. Maybe this is down to looser "guidelines" vs "rules" or maybe we just have new users that have never heard of "netiquette".

One of the settings for new users was changed recently, a few weeks ago. The change was meant to make it more user friendly for new users. It does indeed allow for a higher chance that a spammer can get in. This was discussed internally and the decision was to make it more user friendly. However, additional changes were made recently over past few months to also combat some forms of spam. So currently, we are in a trade off of sorts. There are more settings changed/added to combat certain spam, but also there is less restriction on a new user.
On the forums rules, it does say "Guidelines" now since the forums update, where as before it said "Rules". When performing moderation activities, it is something that I am always thinking about.

Ok so, I use an iPhone and Safari to browse the official forums. I was having an unrelated issue with another site, to troubleshoot I cleared my history and web data, and turned off and on my cookies. Now, even when logged in (and also not logged in) every new page gives me the ‘this website stores cookies’ message, with the yellow thing to click “got it.”
I just factory reset my phone, and it’s still doing it. Cookies are enabled, obviously because it keeps me logged in. History and stuff is being stored and all that. It’s just this message won’t stop. Anyone have any ideas I can try?

I’ve also been using it for years, and this didn’t start until I reset my history/web data and turned off/on my cookies. It’s so weird. I’d have bet real money factory resetting would have fixed this, but I did load my cloud so maybe something in my settings is still wrong?

Okay I found a solution: In order to get an embeddable link for a resource hosted on GitHub one has to append ?raw=true to the end of the URL and hit enter. One then gets redirected to another URL which then can be used to embed the content in different websites (such as the forums here)

Everytime I see someone has made his first post. I now search for part of his message to check if it's just a bot

they are doing it for two reasons: 1) to see if they are actually able to successfully make a post (didn't hit any unexpected captchas or forms). This then means the site gets added to a list for future attacks or ignored depending on the outcome, the first post is innocuous precisely because they don't want it tripping any spam filters, they are testing the ability to post, as long as they can post the scripts know that any subsequent failures were because the content of their spam needs to be tweaked to get past the filter.
- Many forums moderate the first posting of a new user. Once it's decided the user isn't a spambot they can post freely. So a single 'innocent' looking post gets them past pro-active moderation queues.

Doing things that way serves to warn others that anything untoward will not be tolerated. Instead it gets swept under the carpet with no visual/visible warning to others for whatever it was removed for.
My reply was genuine help to that person, help they will no longer get, I wrote an informative post pointing the errors in what they are doing technically with their model as well as their approach to modding in game content.

Any reasonable request will be passed on to the Moderation (or Internal IT Team) as needed. We understand that things aren't perfect and are in need of some attention.
One of the items on my "hit list" is spam from geospecific locations. I think that needs properly addressing. Though, for all I know, it could be a VPN exit, which would explain the traffic from it.
Additionally, I would like to see threads older than 12 months to be auto-locked (if no posts in 12 months that is) or if that's not technically possible, to manually do so going forward (retroactively only as needed). This will reduce warnings for new users who choose not to read the rules before posting.

@smoky bison no private addons in the photography is a new thread rule. I can appreciate you may disagree with it it but its there now. I removed lodu post as he broke the thread rule. Then he went ahead and posted quite a ranting post, and some interesting insulting words aimed at me.
Also to clarify further if lodu had created a thread in the discussion area and said what addon it was i.e Russian Forces Mod WIP, and link to the thread then it would have been fine. But as it was labelled as Private Addons, it was removed.

Okey I managed to be able to post again. I had to open the Report overlay when you report a post. And CTRL+F5 in there. That made the scripts for the text box be loaded properly

The current system of adding suggestions on forum as comments on a single post is really weird. More suitable system would be to make a new post of each suggestion and then have the discussion through comments on that post. All the suggestion posts can go in a group / sub-forum. Then each suggestion can be discussed, updated, marked as done and locked.

If I now log out on bistudio.com and instead log in directly on bistudio.com instead of clicking the login button on the forum, and then go to the forum I can access the forum but I'm logged out. If I then click on login, it just reloads the page and I'm suddenly logged in and everything works.
