Hi guys ! I'm working on a mission that implements the "Operation Frenchpoint" DLC and I have a problem. When I'm working on the editor, want to put something empty like a carcass, an IED or an empty APC, I can't. The "empty" category appears randomly, as does the "game logic" category. Similar experiences? Solutions ?
So I can not place when I want the things "empty" and it is very problematic

I opened a new server and it turns out that direct chat is not working at all. You can type and see the chat yourself but others don't see the chat and it's not even logged in RCon. Is this a known issue or some kind of configuration error from my side? Arma 2: CO v1.64
are they in range? (direct chat shares same distance limit as direct voice), are you blocking the channel in server config ?

Now all are standing on the road with no task and nothing is happening
if a mission is stuck (no mods I hope?), your best try is to restart it from 0 (unless this is already what you have done and there might be e.g an enemy soldier hidden somewhere)
I have only the CWR mods loaded. I thought so too, that there might be someone somewhere, since that happened before, but this time I've already run wide circles

Two questions
1: How do I make Vilas Ak pack work. I can't seem to get it to show up in the mod enabler list.

First real mission after prologue: Reception
After I kill the sniper youre told to regroup with your squad and after the leader just randomly seems to run out to the edge of the map straight north
Feel like this isnt part of the mission...
Squad lead will run all the way to the N side of the map under the two black transport helos you see in the beginning of the mission
Then they just hover indefinitely
Think I got a fix, you have to run up to the technical and kill the driver or it wont count as enemy ambush being finished even tho no one shoots at him

IIRC 3D Editor's mission file is not sqm but sqf, you need to run it manually as a script file

in theory you can, use proton/wine ... server runs fine (all the compatibility issues were with client due to BE (not problem anymore either on recent Proton))
considering linux kernel is better i would say the server will run as good as windows one even via the translation layer

Server actually runs surprisingly well under wine. I was getting constant desync issues under Linux which I haven't seen happen since running under Wine. Could be coincidence, but who knows.

No issues with BE no, used to have issues a few years back which stopped me from using it, but I think they were resolved

Hello, i am player from armaproject.ru and im speaking on behalf of myself, please dont affilate me with the armaproject's administration. We have average 110 players playing every weekends and we used Legacy version (which is now updated) cause AP server based on Linux (many things like Replay's will not work on Windows) and now you are releasing useless (for us it doesnt make any sense at least) update and force 100+ Arma 2 fans manually going back to Old Legacy via Torrents and turning off updates in steam. This is really big butthurt. Do you think this is nice? Probably we will lose some of players cause of this and eventually project will die. We don't need this update, all we want is just continue playing Old Legacy on our Linux server. So please, im really asking you: can you create another BETA version in steam for us? "Legacy" version that was there before this hotfix.

Take a note, that im not coder so i might say some silly things but here is reality: we were totally fine with our Linux server, you are releasing update that doesnt support Linux. Now we are forced to use emulator to launch our server and probably suffer some more lags than usually. Also we need get back to Old Version manually via torrent in order to join server. Again im not coder, i dont monitor any Arma 2 updates & participate in discussions and i dont think anyone should, Arma 2 is almost dead, nobody expected that there will be any more updates. The point is that there is update that doesnt work for us and you force us to do something with this, its a fact. Almost all our players have Windows 10 and some even have Windows 11 and we didnt experience any problems. Is this really hard for you to just make for us another BETA?

as i explained months (or year) ago the problem with linux server binary isn't easily fixable ... (well it is for some time, you can just run windows server binary via Wine/Proton)

everything will work thru proton/wine ... addons don't matter ... (and even if you run some callextension , if it's just some database shall work too)
I cant debate with you on this, cause im not coder. But or smart minds from forum say that Proton/Wine is like using Windows so our Replays system will not work. We need to remake them and currently there is no one who can do this (community is already dying)

Unfortunately the DNS error is not fixed so far. Im getting more and more reports from server admins about that after the BE update. Even if I start an arma 2 oa server locally and join the DNS error occurs.

from my point of view, what's in 163_backup, feels like 1.63 beta (2017) not final version , which was in legacy (2019)
I think it will be great if you will revert current legacy to former legacy, that will solve everything for us without any doubts
as i remember, the legacy was just version before a lot of fixes (like eyes, voice, etc). The version was 1,63,131129
legacy was supposed to contain last 1.63, main in at 1.64

While this would be nice, it honestly works flawlessly as far as I've seen through wine since the BE fixes ages ago. This is something that really should have happened already if it was going to, I don't see what the point of it it now would be.
It's an old game and the fact it's still being supported to allow people to continue playing it at all is really appreciated, just the fact it can work under Linux in some way is good enough.

I lost server FPS 49 (linux server binary, mission loaded, no players connected) to 25-30 wine, windows server binary, same hardware. That Sad. π’
Just a tip for Arma 2 server hosts: If you're using Windows as host OS for your server, I highly recommend using Fred41's xtbbmalloc as the memory allocator for your server. Our server (and also client) performance went up by 200-300 % after using it with large pages enabled
Now the server can still have 35 FPS after 6-9 hours match, 2000 AI during the lifetime of match and 20-40 players online

Memory allocations are at most 10-20% per frame, even if their cost went to zero you don't get 300% speedup
I have no idea why it works like that but our server FPS went from 5-10 to up to 35 in long, hours lasting matches with heavy-ish scripting and hundreds of AIs
If either the malloc is missing or large pages are disabled, there's no effect. But combined they do that, have tested it multiple times
Maybe it's the single translation buffer, allocations and cache friendliness combined? Idk

I can confirm that this did actually happen. No idea how, but there was no desync anymore after @weary stirrup added the memory allocator to the server and the logs confirmed it with server fps logging.Before with long rounds and a lot of players, the server fps went down to even 4-5, and now it's 10-15 at very minimum, and if there is not a lot of artillery and other stuff that really hits the fps, it's easily over 30.
as he said, it might have something to do with AI simulation and how Warfare works. It's pretty different compared to any other Arma gamemode
warfare is not a official gamemode, and chances are that the mission just was/is poorly optimized

i will discuss it tomorrow, we face some problems with 'reverts' of legacy ... it's simpler to just keep 163_backup (aka you can't rename branch name)

i can't warrant it will happen due to issues we have now with A3 update on S... you will need to tell people download the files from mu dropbox i posted and overwrite stuff properly

today we replaced those obsolete \Expansion\BattlEye\ files in 1.64
and removed the branch password from 163_backup branch

If the mod license and/or author(s) says its okay, otherwise no. Remember that Nexus has some specific clauses regarding what permissions they gain from the upload.

Hey all, I figured I'd try asking but I'm an OFPR player and wondering does anyone have the AI addon called "BINMOD REALISM MOD"? I found links but they seem dead. I'd be forever grateful if someone has this addon. I love still watching the AI fight in game and wanted to try out this addon which has AI scripts.

They never said they were going to sell the domain. They already sold that away before starting any talks about selling stuff. So right at the start it was already gone.

In the past i used WINE with the windows server. But that doesn't work anymore for some reason. It runs but when I try to connect directly the server doesn't appear in the game.. Need to look into it more. Wanted to try the native version since it seems to have .so support now π

In this case I run arma2oaserver with WINE and the client (same machine) is Proton with BattlEye disabled. Can't connect to local IP (doesn't appear in list). UDP packets have checksum errors and no answer from server. Need to investigate further.

I wouldn't put too much stock into "Reforger" becoming a thing. Do keep in mind that it's still just a rumour...and not a reliable one at that.
That being said, if it goes on console and does feature an editor it'd probably be like Halo's Forge mode.

Yeah it's a shame, alot of work gone into Elite it seems so it sucks that Xbox Emulation (which isn't it still janky?) is the only way to experience it.

Yeah I was checking the Resistance ending and a loading screen tip had it.
I guess it was made on an early version of the Armed Assault engine. (since I think that was the first PC title with leaning.)

it still cuts off-screen for the shots but you see him aiming it and then holstering it
also the OFP cutscene didn't show them, because of a getPos usage the characters were one level below

I thought Elite was just a model upgrade so it's interesting how they actually changed some things.

Yeah that's a weird unique thing
It makes sense considering the generally lower FOV on console.
(And it seems to be tied to difficulty, which is a good way to handle aid stuff so people who don't want it can disable it.)

one of my OFP playthroughs failed miserably cause the latest patch had broken AI getting into boats and that makes the last mission very hard π

the engine improvements are undeniable, but the OFP experience is damaged (voice acting, animations, menus, etc)
I mean, Berghoff isn't as impressive as he used to be :p
I do think the new VA does take away from it a bit

I like ARMA 1/2 but you definitely start recognizing characters more by their shared voice actors.
Still, it'd be nice if they ported Elite, since the new models/small gameplay changes would make playing OFP again a bit more fresh.
Considering how much stuff like Mario Maker took off, having that but for ARMA on consoles (kinda like ARMA 3's workshop) with the editor would be cool.

A big problem I have with some of OFP (and well, alot more in ARMA 1/2) is how some vehicles/weapons basically only exist in the editor.

I still don't understand why they updated Vanilla inventories to put in Smoke Grenades (Which don't work and possibly don't work in Elite?) but not pistols

While we don't have tons of info, I think the actual missions are mostly the same, it's just on the new (at the time) engine with some post-launch content thrown in for Crisis.

So what does everyone think of ARMED ASSAULT?
It seems to be the second most forgotten ARMA title
the first being� because I have a list of forgotten Arma titles (although it kinda defeats the point =)
Either Flashpoint Elite (because people don't even realize it's not a straight port of the original) or that one Mobile game that isn't Tactics
So yeah if you consider Elite too similar to the original to count, then that one mobile game that isn't tactics and is just one of those base-building p2w Mobile games.

I guess of the "main" games, Armed Assault tends to be overlooked the most.
Shame as I actually liked the campaign structure with the side-misisons

I enjoyed Queen's Gambit though
(even if the expansion is... well Royal Flush might be good despite an awful first mission but Rhamadi conflict felt like they got one dev to quickly make it for the new map.)
I do need to do Queen's Gambit
I just found the first mission a pain since I was on a high difficulty and it really doesn't feel built around that.
Had to bump it down to normal to get through without any teammates dying.
but, tbh I "suffered" playing through it mostly

Honestly it's kinda amazing how bug free the original Operation Flashpoint was.

It's weird how there's literally a loadout menu but we have to use awkward commands to get the editor to change loadouts

Since I recall hearing how Armed Assault only exists since Bohemia needed funds to continue ARMA 2 after the split.

this part is quite true yes; it was apparently a complex moment where OFP:E was a "must do" project, Codemasters wanted to go one way, BI wanted to go another (and to be true to the OFP spirit with Game 2)
then split, monies, ArmA release to get some bucks, then Arma 2, Game 2 π

from what I think I know, the XBox originally wasn't really a target but Codemasters paid for a 10y license and wanted to squeeze it a bit / expand the customer base
Honestly I wonder how many xbox fans got dissapinted since while I don't think Dragon Rising is awful, it's definitely a step back from even Elite in ways.
I played the original on PC was definitely not pleased to learn the console version of 2 wouldn't have the editor. (When I hadn't updated my PC so I had to get the 360 version of DR.)
When you make a game and it manages to have worse things in a way than your Console port of a PC game.
I do wonder what exactly lead to the codemasters bad blood.

But yeah the big one that comes to mind when I think of publisher/devs split is "Let's make the next game easy and dumbed down" but Dragon Rising wasn't really dumbed down so I wonder.
(Like DR was simplified but still pretty complex, not to mention adding it's own realistic touches like bleeding and weapon jamming.)
So it does seem like Codemasters wanting to compromise ARMA wasn't their intention.

I havent really played a lot of arma2 just a couple of hours way back when. However i am revisiting all of the OST's while mission making for arma3 and damn they were some absolute bangers in there. A1Queens gambit aswell.

It's crazy to imagine Bohemia was I think technically what we'd call an "Indie" studio nowadays when they made the original.
and yet Codemasters refused to pay for OFP: Elite to be uplifted for new Xbox 360
in the end, Codemasters ruined the franchise nane and whole FPS division of theirs

Yeah, Dragon Rising was a good first attempt but Red River is pretty much only fun due to being on DR's engine.
With the exception of bringing back the ability to change your loadout, Red River mostly just dumbed the game down.
if they dropped the OFP name out of the game, it was ok game, it was bad game with OFP name in it
Into an awkward "too hardcore for casuals but not hardcore/realistic enough for ARMA fans".
Eh I'd say Dragon Rising did a good enough attempt.
it did need improvements but it was still tactical for hte most part.
the ai was bad, the gameplay was bland, the terrain was uninspiring and the lore was meh
Then Red River decided to just do everything bad.
AI is a bit mixed.
Sometimes they flank well and properly use waist-high cover
it even had the same bugs as arma with physics π
Othertimes they do the charge they're INTENDED to use as a last-ditch move if you've got them pinned
from the other side of the battlefield
around 100 meters away.
I sorta see the AI as comparable to ARMA
Sometimes, they're great

One thing that impressed me when using the Editor is that DR's AI has some autonomy
AI was really pathetic in both Pink River and Dragon Failing ... but that's just imho after i took deeper look on it
they can decide without additional scripting "This waypoint we're heading to is far away, lets take this nearby vehicel"
which is cool.
While I don't think ARMA's AI can do that
On the other hand, DR's AI doesn't seem to actually distinguis vehicles well.
Considering how they try to run you down, in a lightly armored jeep.
or park it firing at you like it's a BMP
and not a jeep where they can easily be shot out of.
