If you have a good PC from 2012, you can run Arma 2 mostly fine. But if it's a bad PC in 2012 standards, then I wouldn't recommend it
But it depends on your standards, like what graphics and FPS are you willing to accept

The SecOps module? As I recall, you just need to select 8 in the Communications menu.
You can then press 1 to confirm the mission type and then respond with either 1 or 2 to accept/decline the mission.

Not gonna lie I just installed Arma: Gold Edition
and after I finish a mission the game closes and Windows Anti Virus tells me the program executes from an atacker and it blocks the game. xD

Yeah I dont use anti virus, all it does is complain about everything and ask you if your sure you want to run this, windows defender should be all you need, I have the tools to find them and remove them so thats why its redundant.
plus if you really want to be safe you can run stuff in sandbox mode or use VB.

A friend of mine and I started working on a fan-translation (and possibly dub) of CWC and found some mentions to that in the main menu stringtable, as well as an all missions button that's supposedly for mission creators. We wanna know whether or not that'd be worth translating, or if it's even accessible to end-users in the first place instead of being something like, say, Hammer World Editor's perforce feature, which is only used internally by Valve but still shows up in the SDK.

- what's the number in soundBegin[]? I often see a number between 0 to 1 I dunno what that is. after each array that indicates an audio address,volume,pitch and range of hearing. there's this kind of array that contains all them, and a number associated with each one in soundBegin[]
- aiRateofFire is the firing speed of AI that shoots this weapon? meaning if I increase it from 0.5 to 1, they shoot 2 times faster?
- If I inherit CfgWeapons, will I get instance of class M9 which is child of Pistol and Pistol is child of CfgWeapons?

Like an rts where you have a base and try to capture all the towns. There is a limit on size of squads but initial squad size isn't' regulated by that, only when buying units.

Like POLPOX already said, you probably only have OA standalone installed, hence no Harvest Red in the campaigns list.
You can tell by opening the editor and trying to place down a unit. If your default unit is a U.S. Army Rifleman then it means you don't have Arma 2 vanilla. If you do own both games (and therefore have Combined Operations), it should be a USMC Rifleman instead.

Just make manual saves. You can save an unlimited amount of times unless you're playing on Veteran.
Not much you can do about slow allies, unfortunately. That's just how it used to be in the older Arma games. Mind you, Arma 1/2/3 still has this "issue" on some campaign missions so it's not a problem that's exclusive to CWA.

and errors usually mean something's wrong, and having errors with A2 (or older) on newer computers is pretty common
Also OA? When I look at personal notes and such on the first mission of PMC there’s just a punch of text and nulls and stuff

Hi guys, not sure if this is the correct thread to post on, but recently ive been trying to get ahold of old arma 2 scenarios / mods that I played as a young teenager, for the nostalgia and also the fact they're really difficult to find RIP armaholic and I feel like someone should back them up. I have invasion 1944 along with iron front and dynamic zombie sandbox, the big one for us that we've managed to get is fireballs insurgency V1.5 on all maps (we think even modded maps like fallujah too) we had to do some of our own modding though to actually get that so some features are broken.

Operation Flashpoint only allowed one manual save. Don't know about the Xbox original version.

hi guys im absolutetly mind boggled but appaerently with the Rangemaster mod for ARMA 2, my AGM-65 mavericks are being intercepted by Pantsir S1s like theyre CIWS
now IDK if thats whats causing it or i am just misseeing which i most likely am

You can't. Not even Arma 3 has missile interception. Only mods do that and they resort to hacky workarounds like having the missile hit an invisible wall-like object.
what about mando missile
...is a mod. Don't know how Mando did it but there's no native method for missile interception since the AI doesn't target projectiles.

Hey, so i want some recommendations (i played OFP Cold war crisis mod along with a sound mod) but the crashes and performance as well as the graphics weren't really great)
So i came across arma armed assault it ran well apparently on potatoes and i can confirm it looks amazing and runs amazing for someone on INTEL HD 4000 lol
but i feel a lack of content i need recommendations
1# I would like to improve the sounds (i've come across HiFi Novus Aevum) it sounds the best afa i can see BUT ANY BBETTER ONES? (also dead links can't find anything) 😭

desync depends solely on scripts you run, mods you run and bare metal you host on. Unless you mean official servers, then it's all about the region you're connecting to. I have no desync issues whatsoever if everything is configured right.

I'm afraid of scripts.. 😄 , it works normally for me in the mission editor without scripting as a command.. xD, yes, I'll try to look at it too, but mostly I don't understand the instructions, maybe I'll write down individual commands that I don't understand.. 😄
those scripts are somehow written specially in a notepad and then put into the game as a mission, it's very complicated and could probably mess up the whole game.. I'm glad that many of them work normally as writting to initialization pole.. 🙂
I also already know, can very good use commands: addweapon, removeweapon, addmagazine, removemagazine, text wrap /n.. very handy tooon it I am very proud.. 🙂 , every week I understand on average about 1-2 commands from 370 😄 , now it will be only about 1 per week.. xD how to write or use correctly in that mission editor.. xD

now, for example, in 1 mission I have a problem with the command to temporarily stop the convoy.. 🙂 , command:
unit1 (Name concrete unit) stop true ; to inic. pole it stops the unit permanently, the stopped command doesn't work at all.. 😄 , I also tried to change the values from true to false, as I read, but it didn't help either. The easiest way would be via a switch/trigger and turn on the "repeat" option, but I already have all the radio commands fully occupied for other things, moving units, so I'll probably have to make it so that the soldier activates it when he enters there, or with some button as he says tank commander.. of course, I control 3 groups in that convoy, there are only 36 soldiers in total, I can only command 12 at most, so then I will have to synchronize it with F5, I can do all that, but I don't know the best command for it, or I wrote it wrong xD possibly I read something about "action buttons", but I didn't understand that either, for example if I press the "a" key, so that the 3 convoys would stop (key command switch + synchronize it with the waypoints of those trucks, I know that in the mission editor there's a lot to do.. 🙂 , but I probably don't know it perfectly yet and by pressing the same "a" key, the convoys would continue on their way again, as the enemy soldiers would be defeated, because the trucks can't resist rocket launchers or machine gunners and as I said, I have them all radio signals (8) already fully used for other cases.. 🙂

yes, or for example for 2 minutes 🙂 and activate the trigger with a specific button, possibly the west unit in the coordinates of that switch (the presence of that unit in that place it).. 🙂 , but probably the best option will be to use some button for that.. 😄

yes I know, it's terrible, sometimes it switches itself automatically and sometimes I have to switch it manually with the help of switches and switches + synchronization F5 🙂 Anyway, in this mission I am part of the 3 convoys 😄 (3 trucks full of 12 soldiers, 36 in total and 1 of those trucks is driven by me and I go last.. so I can't activate it and it will probably be me who will then go before the west trucks as they stand, I'll go shoot the enemies and then I return back.. 😄 , so sometimes I'll be last and sometimes first.. xD

an unknown operator is writing to me - error. In that activation field it doesn't want to accept the "and" command, while in the initialization field it accepts.. , maybe I have to use the = symbol, or try to separate it;
it also often told me that only the "bool" command is written there, but I think that even in that field you can write everything that can be used also in the initialization field
erm, I can still think of the command can move... example: if is "soldier7 in thislist", then "truck1 can no move and truck2 can no move". I don't know why it doesn't take the command "and" or "+" 😄 , I'll try to separate it separately, it's always very complicated to do it right.. 🙂 If editor mission use in this game also children, they also can never enter it correctly or figure it out when not even an adult can handle it.. 😄 --- this will take me about 1 hour + mental strength for it.. xD

I no understand, you think probability of occurrence of units? Or units that die to respawn again? I've read a bit about it, but me it seems stupid, illogical and impractical for 1x killed units to come back to life.

In my opinion, this is probably an easy thing to create a command and implement, only I'm either using the wrong command or I'm writing down or using the correct command incorrectly.. 🤔
so i installed a mod ARMA GOLD ,which replaced the bin.pbo (first mod that did this) i didn't know i just hit replace my fault but the game crashed it works after deleting the modified pbo, but after playing game for a bit my game randomly closes without any ERROR.. (p.s this happened before as well but now it happens alot more frequently!)

That pbo contains core configs, shaders and stringtables used by Arma 1 so the pbo shouldn't be replaced (making a replacement config is fine though).
You'll need to force Steam to redownload that specific pbo. Delete it and then VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES via the Steam client.

User Lord Vulkan from Beyond3d is already dropping the RTX Remix files in Swat 4 with basically no tweaking and it works. It is incredible what RTX Remix is already doing based on super basic info regarding a skybox and emissive textures.

i'm sure i tried A1, A2, OA, A3 via DXVK or similar, i actually got great fps in A3 but the frametime was twice slower 😁

Hi, does anyone know how they made the mission 'There Will Be Flood' from Arma 2's 'Silver Lion' campaign from the Army of the Czech Republic DLC? I had seen screenshots of this mission before and on the DLC page but I never believed it was an actual mission until I recently played it, and alas, it is. I have a few ideas on how it could have been done but I was curious if anyone knew for sure.

yeah that was one of the options I was thinking about, I was wondering if they just used a lot of those pond objects? I recall them being small though so I assume it must've been a task to place them one by one to flood the whole area.
There Will Be Flood is the first and only official mission in ArmA 2 that makes use of the "pond" objects introduced with the Army of the Czech Republic DLC to simulate the flooding effect.

@dreamy vigil it's part of CUP. They have some other ponds too, but the one's classname is indeed pond_ACR. I've been trying to test recreating it, but the pond object itself doesn't seem to work (can't swim nor use boats, doesn't trigger underwater lighting, etc), just visuals for now. May be on my end though, but I managed to cover up an area with the object.

Hey! This might be a long shot but I hope there someone with experience on this Discord server 😅 I'm trying to set up an A2OA server to play an old mission with friends. I'm trying to set up a Linux server, as I noticed that version 1.64.144373 finally got callExtension support! The mission is on Chernarus so I copied the Arma 2 AddOns folder to addons in my A2OA directory, but the server fails to start after this:
Cannot open file 'addons\plants2_clutter.pbo'
Was running A2/A2OA combined ever supported on the Linux server? 😨 The same setup is working fine on my Windows server (1.64.144629). I also tested Linux 1.63.130836 but got the same error.
EDIT: Seems that the problem was that I forgot to convert files inside addons/ to have lowercase filenames. The server starts now!
To continue: apparently Linux 1.64.144373 is broken as it will never let the user join. The client is forever stuck on "Waiting for host":

EDIT: I read through some messages here in Discord and it seems Linux 1.64.144629 has been a "hot" topic for a long time with at least a few people missing it. I guess I will join the list of people waiting for it to happen someday

One more thing: I also tried running arma2oaserver.exe directly with WINE. I ran the server without AddOns from Arma2 base, and I managed to connect to the server and choose a mission. When the server tried to load the mission, it page faulted. After that, I copied the AddOns folder from Arma2 to try to run the Wasteland mission, but this time it page faulted before the server even started.
Interestingly, the stack traces were exactly same in both cases. I don't think I have skills to pursue debugging this further as there's no debug build available, I have no idea what the server code does, and I am not very familiar with WINE internals :/

update: there is a pond object in vanilla Arma 3 from Enoch, I was surprised to find this, and it works off the bat. pond_big_01.p3d, though it does not seem to have a classname. It is very small. The ponds from A3 and CUP also work, just need to make sure they're simpleObjects.
the issue mostly is the reflection texture (env_land_ClearSky_ca.paa) bouncing around and also just looking strange when it reflects the ground, it's also the same reflection used on windows and glass. I wish it was all an even texture or that it could be set in the mission. I think that's just hardcoded into the terrain. You'd be better off messing with setTerrainHeight in Arma 3 for that purpose. But fear not! I'm onto it ;)

anyone knows of any youtuber who has a full playthrough of the A2:0A Namalsk Crisis campaign? I've been looking through YT for a good few days and whenever i find some footage, it's only the first 4-5 missions while whole campaign is 22.
I would play it myself but I uninstalled the game year ago and before that it took me like 5 or 6 days to make it work so I could try any of A2 campaings, and even then I was unable to install any mod, even simple debug console

huh, that's interesting! I've been going thru all of the coop A2 campaigns with my partner and this sounds cool! Might check it out. I wonder how many other things like this are out there that I'm not aware of.
I'm playing it in singleplayer but I think it's more suited for COOP since later in the campaign you get a teammate - he's pretty much useless as he doesn't see certain enemies while you have to make sure he stays alive.
Very difficult set of missions, gets a bit hardcore at certain points and is giving me a feeling that it is supposed to be played with some arcade-focused QOL mods. Or maybe I'm used to less wonky Arma 3 movement.
I would just throw some scripts into a dev console mod but for some reason eventhandlers cannot be run post-init and loops don't work too, I would have to edit every mission lol.
We had the patience to get through Operation Harvest Red in COOP twice lol - that was some jank! It helps to know what to expect.

I did the same and by that time it was still one of the best coop experiences out there. But super buggy and the chances of the campaign missions breaking or some script element not firing properly was super high. Still A2 is king in immersion. A2 sans the bugs and the poor performance would be even better than A3 in my opinion. Arma 2 did not required mods to feel immersive. A3 requires tons of mods to make the world as believable and immersive as vanilla A2 was
The events portrayed in A3 never managed to interest me enough to care about what I was doing or the characters. It all felt bland, half baked and the plot felt like like a low budget James Bond movie to me, with evil factions more fitting to comic books than a sandbox simulator.
In that regard only OLD MAN managed to get me immersed into its world in A3... and of course the Western Sahara CDLC's campaign which takes the crown.... And in MP nothing can beat SOG Prairie Fire.
CONTACT was good too but some of its obligatory gameplay elements like the excessive usage of the signal scanner and not as a mere gadget to have an advantage but a plot element forced on the players to advance on the story felt like a step in the wrong direction to me. That and the extreme performance nose dive that the campaign caused on many systems. I went from playing OLD MAN at 60 FPS and the Main Campaign at 70 FPS to a mere 30 FPS and even some dives into the 20's (stutter inducing) fps range which kinda killed the immersion for me

Hi! I have been personally recreating the original mission with some QoL changes for Arma 3 with my partner, might be releasing it soon if it'd interest you to see how we approached it. We decided to use the setTerrainHeight command since it proved to be more efficient for our case scenario (performance-wise and visually). However, (by deduction) it seems that they originally had a for Array loop that would cover a designated area given the size of the pond object (with accompanying map area markers), if you pay close enough attention when playing the mission, you can see where pond objects meet, however, the vanilla one is much smaller than the one they used - I never actually opened up the mission and most of this is from thoroughly playing it, we follow a similar logic but with the command provided above. The ponds are not a great idea in A3, it's a significant performance hit and it's also not good visually given some object+terrain (maybe engine?) configs - you will get a bouncing reflection that does not fit nor really match time of day/overcast/fog/sunAngle (it's the same one you see on an object's window or reflection, IIRC texture set in terrain config). We ditched the original approach for those reasons, but you can try looking at a single pond object to see this and make your own judgement whether it's acceptable to you or not. setTerrainHeight still has some limitations and an ongoing visual bug but we found it more viable, depends on how applicable it is for your case, unlike the ponds, it can work and update in runtime - which may enable some interesting ideas. Hope that helps! ^^
Hi! I have issues with A2OA. I'm trying to open the game with CBA and ACE but all i get is a error code called "Include file x\cba\addons\ main\script_macros_common.hpp not found" Does anybody can help me? I deleted the config documents for the game but it didn't work.

I'm maybe biased here but there are quite alive niche communities as well, when it comes to e.g. Benny's Warfare based missions. A server had 47 players once during the pandemic, and the usual playercount peaks at 15-35 players daily (which is enough for a proper match with a feel of large scale warfare)

Anyway, I've installed Arma 2 recently, and I've noticed a couple of problems in the game, that I haven't been able to find how to fix on the net anywhere.
The problems that I have are the following:
1) When locking targets with a Javelin (or some other way), the lock-on sound/beeping is too loud due to its high pitch tone. Is there a way to lower it, or disable it entirely?
2) I don't know if it's an Arma 2 issue or not (since I played Arma 3 before this one), but my character gets fatigued (or rather makes that heavy breathing / tired sound), way too often.
I expected this to happen after sprinting, but so far I've found that my character does it after I do any of these things for a while;
- crouch-walk
- moving while prone
- default running pace
The tired sound happens after I do any of these things for a while, not immediately.
3) My character keeps crouching for whatever reason whenever I open up the map ('M' key). This is really annoying, as I like to open up the map and see where my character is while moving toward an objective. Instead what happens is, I move, I open up my map, my character stops dead in his tracks crouched. And before you ask, yes, I did check my controls a dozen times, and the only button that the map uses is a unique one (the default 'M' key), that is, it doesn't overlap with any other key configuration, whether on foot or in vehicles and especially it doesn't overlap with the stance buttons.
4) I'm unable to raise my weapon via the "Raise weapon" key (default '2xL.CTRL') when I'm crouched. If I try to do it, my character stands up first, and then I have to press 2xCTRL again to be able to raise it properly. After playing through Arma 3, I find this to be quite annoying, and am wondering if is it a bug, and if there are any workarounds for it? Also, yes, I did check my controls again to make sure nothing overlaps, and even when changing the keybind to a unique button, it still does the same thing, and I can only raise my weapon while standing (or moving while in a standing position)
5) A mildly but definitely annoying problem that I also found was that after I take off the Night-Vision Goggles, everything is dark for a couple of seconds before showing the actual lighting. This was tested on the "Harvest Red" campaign, "Into The Storm" mission, where you destroy the comms node and rescue a bunch of prisoners. Is this a bug, or an intended feature? Nonetheless, is there a way to remove the "fade out/in" after taking the NVGs off?
And that's it.
Does anyone know of any solutions on how to fix any of these problems?
- Not possible without a custom mod. It's been that way since 1.00 (2009).
- Also requires a custom mod to silence the breathing sounds. Unlike Arma 3, Arma 2 is very limited on options when it comes to adjusting fatigue so doing any action for more than a few seconds will trigger the breathless sounds.
- Has always been like that for Arma 2. Not possible to change unfortunately. It also affects most other actions as well (like Gear for instance).
- Animation issue in Arma 2. Can't be changed.
- Intended feature meant to simulate your eyes adjusting to the change in lighting. Not possible to change without a custom mod.

Damn, that's a lot of negative info (not directed to you of course). I thought some of them might be fixable via minor editing/modding, but damn, lol. Guess I'll just live with it.
For the things that you've mentioned that require mods, are there any links you could offer, as I've been searching for them as well before making that post?
Locking sounds are tied to the Effects slider in Audio Options so you can't change it.
Only alternative is to disable autolocking so that the Javelin won't acquire targets until you manually do so.
No links for mods unfortunately. You'd have to tweak these yourself with a replacement addon since it's a niche thing.
The closest two mods that I can think of with (maybe) some of the changes you want out of the box are COSLX and PvPscene Tweaks. But they might also include stuff that you don't want so...it's a case of picking your poison.
I just remembered, but one thing that I find weird regarding the Fatigue, Map and NVG problems is that none of them were present in the previous games (Arma 1 and Operation Flashpoint / CWA). So how come they appeared in Arma 2? Was it intentional for all these things, or was there a bug somewhere that they couldn't fix since launch?

I don't think they would provide the data from real world terrain (even though it has been flattened for Desert)
but they actually may provide the in-game resolution data, who knows
honestly the in game resolution one would be all i need as a solid base, i could do all the smaller details myself, i was also planning on making seperate vegetation and texture assets for the mod considering there are no desert mods on workshop
you could, with SRTM and ARCGIS, get data for a small extent of any desert and go from there, you should look/learn in the respective terrain channel for the game you're making it for

I'm on the plane level of Silver Lion and it feels nearly impossible
It just seems like sometimes my Jet just decides to stop flying and then I'm dead

I wish Crimson Lance had COOP. It could've easily been made that way, I think. One time just browsing the wiki I found out that there was a mission named 'Heat' (the same name from Mission 3 from Crimson Lance)... and alas! It was the same mission but COOP. It is also my least favourite mission from the campaign.
I was really liking the second (was it?) mission where you have to demine a road and execute a triggerman - first time I ever enjoyed doing some proper AI management thru the command menu too, I was getting into it then, then it went downhill afterwards.
Crimson Lance is cool in concept but I recall the Base Defense mission being annoying
I have been for years saying I want to play thru CWA's Resistance campaign and never mustered up the patience to do so, last time I did so was for playing thru Royal Flush from Armed Assault.

Honestly it is a shame how the Arms Dealer actually sells almost every weapon but also you have no need for them
if you like that system, it is somewhat revisited in Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead's "Black Gauntlet" campaign. Not so much a dealer, but you can loot and store equipment inside your vehicle which you can use later, and it will be persistent.
I like the way the story develops in Royal Flush a lot, and Sahrani had always been my favourite terrain (having never played the original games at the time) so it kind of all fit together for me. Plus there's a character that has Mike Tyson's tattoo.

I kinda am both liking and disliking because of the same reason: it's small

(Plus you can literally get sniped at the very start right after leaving the heli)

a group of units in a helicopter - get out of it (waypoint unload/disburden), but I can no longer tell the group commander (which is loaded as all his units in helicopter) to have his own waypoint (after exiting the helicopter have waypoint find and destroy ), than the helicopter returns to the base his next and own waypoint, where it lands (waypoint get out/off how solve this problem? Units from HELI get out, but they than have no their own waypoint, all next is unite/d, together, go, mainly to HELI waypoints lool.. xD
Another problem in another mission is that sometimes the switch reacts badly, mainly from the helicopter, when they have a waypoint move or get off, then the trigger in the switch does not work, or there is a 50% chance (probably some bug or I'm entering it wrong again) when I have to switch at the helicopter waypoint "hold position", that's how it usually works, but waypoints "move" with at activation HELI land "land" or waypoint "get out" are problematic on switch next waypoints over radio and best control is over radio signals, exist also better switches in trigger for activation than only radio signals, but are also more complicate for easy signals (for example concrete soldier in thislist (in concrete trigger circle..)
If I am an inferior member of the west group and not its commander, then tanks support (trigger - switch - radio) can only be called by its Commander. I don't know under what circumstances will commander of group give the support a signal, if automatically or if it needs a command. If it's by command, then what command does a commander with the name "unit1" give an order for tanks support via the Bravo radio that he need support to come?.. 🙂
- I can triggers and switch, but I do not know, how has unplayable commander to press, squeeze signal for radio Bravo :), possibly under what circumstances (for example, when 50% or 5 tanks, 5 rocket launcher soldiers are destroyed, it presses, presses, summons American tanks via Bravo radio)

In the list of weapons Operation Flashpoint, there is this weapon that can be added to the initialization of the soldier (machinegun): "BISCamelMGun" ----) this addmagazine "BISCamelMGun" ; this addweapon "BISCamelMGun" ; but it doesn't work 🙂 and so my question is. Does the given weapon exist in the game, or does it have to be entered differently in the initialization field? If there is no error in Bohemia studio when writing the given command.
Now I need, I would like a command to the trigger for the situation 🙂 , that the music starts, when most of the east units die in the given circuit, for example 50% or when for example 15 east units die in the trigger circuit, then the song starts, can such a command also be created?
a combat helicopter with a "destroy" waypoint does not shoot at soldiers who are hidden in the village behind houses and who are lying on the ground, although they fly low above the ground, there are many of them in the village and they do not shoot.. and often even if the helicopter has a "find" waypoint and destroy" and behavior "combative", he shoots mainly at tanks, or larger targets, a grounded machine gun that is well seen from a distance, in his radar or that makes a big noise that cannot be overlooked.
--- so is there some command to force it to fire blindly, something like if I give the ground soldier a waypoint "destroy" to shoot like crazy at that target to destroy everything in a small radius, even if it should destroy its own allied, friendly units to make the "destroy" waypoint work correctly for the helicopter as well --- if there is a forced attack command.

were you playing Squad earlier about two hours ago? I was in a match with someone who had your exact name, probably too much coincidence. Anyhow, you don't really 'need' the DLCs to enjoy/play the game.
Squad is a better drop-in drop-out experience IMO (and much simpler if you don't have a lot of time on your hands or friends/a unit to coordinate with), but if you want to dedicate to a game, I think Arma will be better; most of it's potential is either in joining a good unit, using the editor/learning how to make stuff, or trying out things made by the community. The game is essentially fueled by the community's creativity, lots of options to enhance/change/expand the game. I think that's where it really shines, and I have personally learned and grown a lot by delving into how to create things for this game.
It's a bit hard to get into at first, but worth it in the long run.
ARMA 3 has steam workshop support and a mission editor
So you can make your own battles to play through with AI
and download easily more maps/equipment from lots of eras of conflict
its challenging to load up and play
How exactly do you fly an A-10 in Armed Assault? it seems it just refuses to pull up for me sometimes, so I inevitably crash into the ground.
I struggle to clear any mountains
Even if I hold down S to pull up, I can't get any direction higher than a slight incline upwards once the jet seemingly just decides to stop flying

Yeah but even holding Q, right after loading a save
it was incredibly difficult to stay airborne
I ended up just parking the Jet with auto-pilot and waiting for the AI to do the mission at the starting location
So I've technically beaten it
even if I still have no idea how the jets work compared to Opflash, especially since there's no tutorial for the jets in-game
I could be wrong but I swear loading a save while flying a jet had no issues in opflash
Jets being seemingly impossible to fly (and a few badly balanced single missions) aside, ARMA Gold might actually be my second favorite ARMA mission-wise. (And I like how the main campaign has side missions to make the main missions easier)
Even if I'm sad we have a cool "neutral NATO-ish" faction with the RACs
who basically only appear in Queen's Gambit, without most of their unique toys.
You get to play as the SLA in 2 single missions at least
(Hell part of the reason Elite interests me so much is that it's Opflash 1 on the Armed Assault engine, with patched in Opflash 1 content backported to the campaign)

Well I beat Eagle Wing, so I have now beaten every campaign in ARMA 2
Technically I haven't beaten the base-campaign
because I had to use cheats to skip levels when the scripts broke at the end
(Manhatten wouldn't end and all my soldiers froze up and got stuck before the final objective of the final mission)
Still aside from that, I just have Single Missions to do now
(Aside from the Warfare ones A: because I hear one of them is unwinnable and B: I really hate the game mode)
I managed to play through the warfare mission(s) in Harvest Red, wasn't that hard at all, but in BAF campaign it was awful to play it

Nope, only the CoIN (Construction Interface) module gets used. No Warfare module, thankfully. Otherwise that mission would have been Dogs of War 2.0.

There is no problem with joining ArmA2/OA/CO servers you can connect without problems if you meet the requirements of the server you intend to join.
If you can't connect it's simple, you don't meet the server requirements, you got banned or you don't have all the necessary ports open on your router.
I think there actually is an issue where you get stuck in 'wait for host' but it can be caused by many things like misconfigured server

There's many possible causes for this. Try restarting Steam, and make sure your appid is correct. If you're trying to join a DayZ Mod server, it should say you're playing DayZ Mod on Steam, etc.

In my experience, this problem is never caused by something that verifying files would fix.
It's a network or steam issue.
It can also be caused by bad server configuration, if the mission files are missing.
Here was a network issue, but i still dont know what

In the mission editor, the east or west flag can be raised or taken down by a specific soldier. Is there also an order by which a soldier hangs the flag on the flagpole? Nice.. but.. it seems to have broken Arma2 completely for me. I can't download the update (every other game updated just fine), I can't uninstall it at all, and deleting all the files in the install dir and validating results in "0 files failed validation". There are several people on the steam boards saying they can not download it now as well.

oh right since there are 2 version of Arma 2 (different ID) on Steam, is the 6GB update happens to both version?
the change is just client binary and update is to both, one was NA version and one was RoW (rest of world) ...
people tend to forget that A2 is so old it was early era of STEAM so there weren't subdepots and stuff like that , nor DLCs
so to have two physically different binaries (because rating logos), it needed two different appIDs
generally 3/4 stuff around A2 and OA are workaround and solutions how bend the system to allow our games to work
like our DLC system was so unique the original data only STEAM was unable to deal with it (there is active binary for DLC, nope nope nope ?)
anyway, now i need to figure out who can't run theirs A2 and who can't install it
so if you have problems, please check properties of Arma 2 and do me screen of this part

Can't give them waypoints, they're agents (thus are not in a group) and have their own FSM as a "brain" that determines their loitering and pursuit behaviour
There's a community hosting a mission without permission in OA. Would Bohemia do anything about it (i.e. blacklisting the server from using Battleye) if we sent an email to the related address or is A2/OA support dead because it's EOL?
Going from Arma CWA from having it on a disc, to getting it off steam years later, to going to Arma 3 which was like adding colour to the original game, I'm glad there's so much still in common with the original

I bought ArmA II OA as my fourth game on steam on April 27, 2018. I purchased ArmA II for the data within the month. I now have 744.4 hours on it. It is now my most played game by a factor 2. I got ArmA III base game only on January 28th. I now have 257.9 hours on it, raising it to my third most played title. I think you can count me as "hooked" to.
Additionally, I came here for information on the ArmA II update. I did not update it. However, I restarted steam for the first time in a week, and now the update now longer shows. Was it rolled back?
A2's the update does not contain any, probs a Steam's hiccup IIRC

Is there any sort of way/process of getting https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk to work with BE in A2/A3. It yields huge performance boosts on Windows, getting extra 40% performance in SP.

But yeah, it seems that we'll have no luck regarding these two file blocks. The performance boost with properly configured xtbbmalloc (using large pages) and DXVK would be crazy though, performance would roughly get doubled probably (or even more if there's some synergic effect between the two) 
Feel free to do testing without Battleye and report the results here. Let me know via DM if you need help configuring xtbbmalloc since I think it doesn't work properly with the default settings and/or the .ini file setup properly

Also speaking of which, an important tip for all Arma 2 users: the -malloc=system startup parameter seems to work amazingly well especially for game freezes, stutters and crashes. I've probably fixed the freezing/stuttering/crashing issues of Arma 2 of hundreds players already by instructing them to add the system malloc parameter to their game startup parameters. It seems to work almost with 100 % certainty, which I find amazing. And it's naturally whitelisted by Battleye, so anyone can use it in multiplayer as well.
Interesting never had issue with freezing or stutters last year when i installed A2, gonna use the param just in case.
