Hi everyone, did other VPN users also receive this message today? I don’t understand why I can’t use my VPN even though I am a pro user.

Others who use that VPN's IP address may have done questionable stuff and so now everyone via that IP address is blocked, using a different server may or may not help.

It seems that all VPN IP addresses are being blocked (I tested about 10). I think we won’t be able to use Perplexity with a VPN enabled. I’m using ProtonVPN.
However, I managed to regain access without disabling the VPN by adding the following IP addresses to the split tunneling list:
IPv4 addresses
104.18.26.48
104.18.27.48
IPv6 addresses
2606:4700::6812:1a30
2606:4700::6812:1b30
(Perplexity.ai IP addresses)
(Maybe this will help others experiencing the same issue 😉)

I think there was a change to the sidecar assistant today. I noticed that it carries the context between multiple tabs rather than each tab having its own chat/context. 😕

I much prefer each tab having its own separate chat/context. However, I noticed in the past that people asked to have all the tabs share the same chat (like it does now).

I think they made theirs using C#, since it was easier to hook into windows.
They used a range of methods though. With the windoes API's you can select a window, and only screenshot that. Then they had an algorithm to split up the screenshot into different zones to make it easier for the model to control the page, and choose what actions to take.

Then you just have a simple pipeline:
Get webpage - > Pass to sanitizer - > inject into prompt.

I need some help with my /tab-organize shortcut it used to work, but now it doesn't. Can anybody give me advice on how it should look, here is my current version that isn't working, it simply outputs which groups the tab should be in, but doesn't actually organize my tabs:

Bummer. I spent an hour teaching Comet a repetitive activity. I would explicitly explain each step and tell it to take a snapshot whenever the screen changed, so that it could follow all of the steps. I was ready to let it do the steps and I got "You've hit your weekly assistant search limit."

I had something similar when using the Comet Browser and I utilized the same "conversation" or whatever it is to ask basic questions and the cool down is 7 days from that time you get the message.

It's just that specific conversation. You can refer to the name of it, download the convo, and have it pick up in another thread/convo whatever

I find it funny that for once the iOS world is urgently waiting for an app to be adapted to their operating system. Usually it's us Android users who are constantly neglected and have to wait forever until apps that have been available on iOS, iPad, and macOS for months or even years finally get adapted to Windows or Android. Community, help me understand if I’m doing something wrong.

When I ask Comet to edit something in Notion, it often bypasses its tool-calling capability and instead tries to edit the page manually via the browser (Notion.so). This is occasionally acceptable, but if you have the Notion desktop app installed, the website redirects to the app, causing the Comet agent to fail updating.

On the other hand, if I use a “/” shortcut and include Notion as a source, it successfully references the Notion tool about 90% of the time. This usually happens during the initial prompt of a new conversation or immediately after calling the shortcut. However, if I continue the conversation and ask it to update Notion again, Comet often reverts to loading the webpage instead of continuing to use the tool.

I could be wrong but my guess is that Comet can only act for you inside Comet, so it seems to make sense it would open Notion in the browser. Perplexity AI can use anything you have given it access to, wherever you use Perplexity AI– desktop, mobile, website (in any browser) or in the Assistant panel in Comet. So when using Notion as a source, AI doesn’t need to open Notion in an app or browser because it’s only reading information to answer your question. Reading and Writing permissions are granted separately because they are different actions- one is getting the answer from the place you told it the answer would be, another is making changes in the program. When you ask it to do something for you that involves anything other than reading without touching, that is “Writing” in this context. So it’s not acting for you to read, but it is when it does something for you in Notion in the browser. Absent serious programming alterations, a browser can’t open another app and do something inside that app. Think of the Assistant side panel in Comet as logging into to Perplexity in a browser window or tab, they’ve just given it a dedicated place in the Comet interface that doesn’t look like a browser tab, and you can allow it to do things for you in Comet. The Notion website is inside Comet just like it would be a tab in Safari or Chrome.

I have an issue where I am completely able to verify myself and I am verified on perplexity for mobile and a sub but I need access to comet which I have access to on desktop on my new mobile phone the thing is my old one was an iPhone and it got bricked so it's very difficult for me to get the data out of it I don't know if this is the right place to ask but there's no like customer support number so it's all I can call anyone directly and I figured talking to an AI why not be the best way to go about this cuz usually it was just eventually direct you to a real person

Just wanted to check if anyone else is seeing this issue with Comet browser.

What I’m seeing:

• Only in Comet, my Perplexity chat history/threads suddenly disappear or fail to load
• If I open Perplexity in a normal browser, everything is fine and all threads are visible
• The only workaround that fixes it for me so far is logging out and logging back into my account

Environment:

• I’m running a VPN in the background, not sure if that might be affecting it
• The issue only happens in Comet for me, not in other browsers

haven't seen that, does it occur in an incognito tab? If not, it could be an extension

or, try temp-disable all extensions then close and reopen to see if it repeats

Yep, as I was reading up on this, I discovered that The Times has now charged Perplexity with essentially reproducing copyrighted material, just as they accused OpenAI, which is still in legal proceedings. The date that they brought this suit was December 5th, which coincides fairly closely with the time Perplexity started going dark everywhere. I only hope that they can come out on the other side of this, as OpenAI did with its lawsuit, and will be able to participate in social media with updates again soon.

Haven't encountered this myself, but initial thoughts are it could be VPN, or a browser extension, or antivirus, or malware scanning software on the device blocking some of the communication with Perplexity servers where it's unable to verify you are a Pro user.
