Hi @everyone, we’re announcing a new version of Perplexity Ask: conversational search. With conversational search, you can ask follow-up questions to continue your search and expand your knowledge. Conversational search will be rolling out over the next couple days.
In the meantime, you might notice some small changes to the design of the website. As usual, we welcome any feedback or bug reports. Thanks for being part of our community!

Since Twitter's API changes on February 9th, we haven't been able to properly support it. Hey all! An update for the Perplexity iOS app has just been released. Here's a quick overview of what has changed

Markdown support! Tables are no longer bars and dashes and mathematics surrounded by dollar signs - answers are now richer and easier to read.
Improvements for answers in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean characters (visual improvements for right-to-left languages such as Arabic will be coming soon.)
Various other bug fixes and optimizations.

Updates will roll out over the next few days if you have automatic updates on via the App Store, or you can swing by the store page to get the update now!

A new update for the iOS app is out and rolling out. The biggest thing is we now support iPads! That means you get all the neat things with multitasking and etc with Perplexity on a larger screen!

There are a few other bug and crash fixes as well. If you have automatic updates on for the App Store, the new release will be on your device over the next few days. You can also swing by our App Store page to manually get the update now!

Answers should come back significantly faster!
We retooled how we cache queries on the app so that should also help quite a bit in performance as well
The UI is localized for German and Japanese! やった！
We've added a "copy to clipboard" functionality that is similar to what web has in the previous message
All around improvements around accessibility (e.g. for peeps who use screenreaders)
Various other fixes and optimizations

We did a major overhaul of the technical workings of the iOS app - I know lots of peeps have hit into answers not loading ever before, and we think that this version should fix that issue. As always, feel free to drop feedback into #🍏│feedback-ios if you have comments and questions!

As some of you have also discovered, we did implement a Shortcut for Perplexity (which also allows you to use Perplexity with Siri. Start off with "Search on Perplexity" and then your query after the confirmation by Siri to get your answers back!

The "online" models: pplx-7b-online and pplx-70b-online have been trained in-house, building on top of Mistral and Llama 2, and fine-tuned to be accurate and helpful. 🏆 Our Sonar-Reasoning-Pro-High model tied for first place with Gemini-2.5-Pro-Grounding on LM Arena's new Search Arena.

Sonar-Reasoning-Pro-High beat Gemini-2.5-Pro-Grounding 53% of the time while the rest of the Sonar models outperformed all other models.

The Sonar-Reasoning-Pro-High model scored 1136 with a 95% CI of +21/-19, statistically tying with Gemini-2.5-Pro-Grounding (1142 with a 95% CI of +14/-17) for the top position.

Search Arena revealed three factors strongly correlating with human preference:

• Longer responses
• Higher citation counts
• Citations from community sources

Sonar models had substantially higher search depth, citing 2-3x more sources than equivalent Gemini models.

📢 Sonnet Model Behavior Update

Hi everyone — quick update regarding recent community discussions about Sonnet behavior:

We've been experiencing increased error rates with the Sonnet 3.7 API (example: Anthropic Status Incident), some queries are being temporarily routed to alternative models as a fallback.
This ensures you still receive answers without encountering errors or needing to manually switch models.

To be clear: we do not intentionally switch your selected model.
Routing only happens when Sonnet encounters an error, and it's done automatically to maintain service availability.
We're actively working with the Anthropic team to reduce error rates and restore full stability.

📢 Follow-up: Sonnet Routing Issue

Hey everyone — following our earlier update on Claude Sonnet behavior, we've now deployed a full fix to restore proper routing. Sonnet 3.7 should now consistently respond when selected.

This issue was caused by a misconfigured internal flag during an earlier outage. The flag wasn't reset correctly, causing some queries to keep routing to fallback models like GPT-4.1, even after Sonnet stabilized.

We've cleaned this up and improved our internal processes to prevent it from happening again. Thank you to everyone who flagged this.

📢 Addressing Concerns re: Perplexity Promo Codes

We've noticed unauthorized distribution of some promotional codes and wanted to address this situation transparently with our community.

Over the weekend, we detected promotional codes being shared widely across social media that were explicitly meant for specific partners. We've now deactivated those codes and are actively investigating how to resolve this as quickly as possible, which includes disabling unauthorized access to Pro.

When we make promotional codes available, we require these codes to be used by the designated participant for its intended purpose. Promo codes should not be duplicated or made generally available to the public, which appears to have occurred in this instance. We take this seriously because it affects our ability to offer fair pricing and legitimate promotional deals to everyone, especially our existing Pro users.

We will be reviewing accounts that used these invalid codes to ensure fair access for all users. If you are a legitimate customer who received a promotional code through an authorized channel and believe your account has been affected by our corrective measures, please reach out to us at support@perplexity.ai and we'll be happy to review your case and resolve any issues promptly.

This is temporary and won’t be an access blocker long-term. But Max tier will be able to run repetitive agent queries on the most advanced models with nearly infinite limit. World will adapt to this change. Access won’t be restricted however to Max.

📢 A quick update on models

Over the next few days, you'll notice that R1 1776 will be removed from the model selector on web and mobile.

While we've loved seeing how many of you explored different models, R1 hasn't kept pace with recent improvements - so we're making room for models that better support what's coming next.

If you've been using R1, we recommend trying Claude 4.0 Sonnet (Thinking) - Anthropic's reasoning-focused model. It offers similar strengths with stronger performance across the board.

No changes are being made to Sonar or any other models.

We've upgraded Deep Research in Perplexity.

Perplexity Deep Research achieves state-of-the-art performance on all leading external benchmarks, outperforming other deep research tools on accuracy and reliability.

In our own evaluations, Perplexity performs especially well on Law, Medicine, and Academic use cases.

This upgrade pairs the best available models with Perplexity's proprietary search engine and infrastructure.

Deep Research will now run on Opus 4.5 for Max and Pro users. We'll upgrade to top reasoning models as they become available.
