My fear is they've both optimized and in the same move downgraded the default Assistant in place of having "Max Assistant" be the optimal "experience" if you will. I don't have access to the new max mode so I can't directly verify but it does seem like a possibility.

If they are going to spend time tuning and optimizing it and also want to sell two access tiers for the feature, how else does the higher tier justify itself cost wise?

Just installed Comet and one thing is that I have several mail accounts. One is on Google, another one is for work using Microsoft, I guess, and another personal email account uses iCloud. Currently, the connectors only seem to support Google. Is it possible to connect or somehow forward all mails to Google or something that would work? Otherwise, the assistant is not that usable, for me at least.

Yes, but for my work mail (microsoft) the IT has disabled forwarding for security. But the icloud can be forwarded but then when i use Comet to write/reply it is sent from my google account which to not great

From my understanding, all browser favorites and passwords are kept locally on your device and not in the cloud. You can import those into Comet from your other browsers like Edge and Chrome

From what I know, for example Chrome stores this information in the cloud, and after logging in on a new device, you can download it from the cloud.

I mean … there IS a workaround way to do this bc I did this just to play around using various old gmail and non-Google email accounts of mine.

Right, I think if you’re using your desktop chrome and save passwords and favorites, you have the choice to sync it across devices via cloud — but that’s only if you enable sync. If you don’t, the pw and favorites are solely local on your computer.

But let’s say you don’t have sync enabled, and you want your macOS Comet to have the same passwords and favorites as your android chrome (for whatever reason). What you can do is turn on sync on that Google account so that android chrome syncs the passwords/bookmarks to download to the macOS Chrome, and from there you can go into Comet settings and import them. But this isn’t technically a continuous syncing, you’ll need to update whenever there are asynchronous updates on either device

This so-called, browser ... is, in reality pretty freaking bad and i'd like to share my thoughts extensively from a technical perspective because - welllllllllllllllllllllll i guess because you couldn't really do a worst job on an "agentic" browser.

So ... why not share some thoughts? I does seem like you've already managed to completely botch up the entire thing on its own - you really don't need mine or anyone else help in doing so.

I just posted this on PH but wanted it to share here too.

Update on my week 2 with Comet:
I gave Comet the simple task to copy the written content of 12 online course lessons and paste it into a single PDF file. This would have saved me at least 30 minutes of manually copy/pasting it myself.
Initially it looked good but the results were pure disaster.
The PDF just had the headlines of the lesson and then a placeholder saying (full course content here).
I repeated this several times - clearly saying that I need the full content copied into the document.
After some "sorry, that's on me" justifications, he tried again...and again...and again.
One hour later I gave up, because he told me that I should mark the content of each page myself and only then he could copy and paste it. Which of course makes no sense - out of obvious reasons.
So in the end, what would have taken me 30 minutes, now took 3 times that long.
The issue here is, that this is hallucination like 2022 but on a whole other level.
It just claims to do the job and acting like it does on top - just to proof you in the end, that he has done nothing at all!
Tl;Dr: Comet acted doing the job instead of really doing it!
If this sounds like some government official who just performs "his duty" as a show, while actually doing no work at all - then only because it is exactly that!

Probably too ambitious. These things have limited context, and some of that is taken up by reasoning through the task itself. Try with one page of the course first to see if it can actually scrape it correctly. Then if that works, get it to do 10 pages. If that works, try the entire course or perhaps in chunks.

Is there any features related to replacing bookmarks. I keep a lot of bookmarks to help remind me of things I want to look at later or reference later, but hate managing them. Arc was nice because i could use individual spaces to break things up a bit and organize easier by my focus area at the time but still I'm managing a lot bookmarks

Yeah, similar to what @tepid robin said, you have to first test that it can even do 1 lesson right, or even get the text at all.

Obviously ideally Comet would tell you when it is having trouble. Sometimes it does do this, and sometimes like here it kind of acts as if it has done the task properly 😆

I think it'd make sense for the Comet assistant to have some kind of memory space where it can say copy a section of text and give it a label, and then only store the label in the context. So it might copy text from Course 1, Lesson 1 and call it "Copied text from Course 1, Lesson 1". Then it builds up all the lessons, and finally outputs them. Perhaps if it needs to format the text of the lessons it could use a different LLM thread so it doesn't pollute the original context.

Actually I did that in my third or fourth try. He correctly copied the text of the first two lessons. Then he asked me, if I want this in one PDF or ZIP file - which was my initial request. So I hesitantly said: only if you manage to do so...
To which he replied: Of course! Just to give me an empty ZIP file and a PDF that had again just the headlines with (full course content) placeholder below. Back to the start. 😅
So yes, what you said with a separate thinking instance on top of the actual worker is what's needed, BUT I thought this is exactly what an agentic browser should do? (actually DO and not only act like it)

Comet sometimes like to open multiple mini-windows and do multiple things concurrently, I've found places like Facebook and Amazon are more cooperative if you prompt Comet to do things one-at-a-time and at human speed. It's a little slower, but still lets you walk away or switch to another app while it works.

Yeah I think for that kind of attack to work the text HAS to be on the page itself, but it can be hidden in various ways:

• A very small font (maybe size 0?)
• Text that is the same as the background color so you can't see it
• Spoiler tags etc

The thing is "you completely trust the website" doesn't preclude Comet from going off to some other site. So this is a fundamental security vulnerability, and actually affects a lot of Agentic AI. The problem stems from the fact that the Agentic AI can do anything that the user account(s) it is running on can do. This really requires a fundamental rethink of the authorization model used. Agentic AI cannot run as "the user", but should have "allow this" features with least-privilege authorizations. E.g. reading your email doesn't require the ability to compose emails, delete emails or close your user account.

Also I believe we've seen that prompt injection can happen via images with text in them. This should really have been anticipated as it's not like prompt injection is new. It's been an issue since chatbots got access to the web, and potentially before then too.

The average user isn't going have a scooby doo what they are talking about. I'd consider myself a somewhat proficient user with a fairly good imagination, but there's no way I'm going to devote brainwidth to thinking through all of the ways an agentic browser could go wrong, and then figure out mitigations. It's on the browser vendors I'm afraid. The good news is that is going to become widely understood problem shortly. We know Brave are working on agentic browser features, browser os has an open source version of Comet, Open AI is rumoured to be working on a browser - and you can bet Google & Microsoft are also thinking about agentic features.

ctrl + tab : when this shortcut is used the the movement is linear and you cant tell which tab you want to reach wont it be better to implement it similar to how alt+ tab works in windows where you have a proper visible small menu to choose the app you want to go to . This is also helpful will be better than implementing tab previews in tab bar as you can do same by just doing ctrl tab.

I know what you mean though, but I think it's kind of hard to avoid. Because you can also use the Assistant directly from the address bar, so it's not always going to be clear what is a search and what is an Assistant request. So for the searches I usually use SHIFT + Enter so that it uses Google.

Edit: Maybe at some point in the future it would try to guess if you're doing a search, but I wonder how reliable that would be. That way searches could go into a different section. But yeah, hard to imagine if that would actually work well.

The assistant ignores the model choice and doesn’t actually use it even if it says it did. The shortcuts only allow you to use Research/labs, not other models in that assistant view
