My friend can still redeem it on his own email and give me the access to use and that is a similar thing that is even untraceable. So I believe having this rule is bullshit. I’m trying to use Perplexity API with JetBrains AI Assistant (OpenAI-compatible provider), but I can’t get it to work and I’m a bit stuck.

I’m using this endpoint in JetBrains:

A simple curl call to this endpoint works fine with sonar-pro

However, in JetBrains AI Assistant, the “Test connection” always fails, even after disabling tool calling

Am I missing something in the setup, or is there a known limitation with the OpenAI-compatible support?

I just got this message from Perplexity:

"No more requests available with advanced AI models this week. Upgrade to Perplexity Max for enhanced access to advanced models."

So basically:

I’ve used up my weekly quota for advanced models (Claude Sonnet, GPT‑5.x, Gemini Pro, etc.)

That explains why Perplexity stopped generating full responses, especially for long code files

This quota is weekly, not daily, and Perplexity doesn’t warn you before hitting it

Perplexity Max gives a much higher quota, but it’s still not unlimited

TL;DR: the cut-offs and partial responses were due to hitting the weekly advanced-model limit, not a bug or my input.

It still seems most likely a glitch in their subscription process, bc too many ppl are reporting similar issues. They might have a new student promotion for new accounts. However they wouldn’t and couldn’t simply shut down currently active Pro accounts with no advanced notice. they have to honor their original terms which gave 12 months of Pro. The promo would have been phased out as the 12 month promo expired for users. When I signed up I am only a couple months into the promotion so my Pro account should still be active.

I have an active Pro subscription, but when I try to change the model in Search Pro (for example to Claude Sonnet 4.5 or Gemini 3 Pro), the app immediately shows a paywall / upgrade screen instead of starting a chat.

It also says that I’ve reached my monthly Research query limit and suggests upgrading to Max, even though I’m only using regular Search mode (not Deep Research or Labs).

They have changed the pro subs description. Where it would say “unlimited use of advanced models like GPT, Claude…” now they switched to something like “all the limited pro subs need…”

They also don’t have any direct support channel. We only get AI Assistants to reply our human emails.

Now we get archives daily limits to send as attachments.

They don’t seem to care about the community that’s the truth.

They bulk sold many pro subs (one year free access) to many big companies around the globe to share with their final consumers and also had many “get one year free in your first pro subs”. It’s obvious that some day this would make Claude and GPT took some action on pricing, and this should made Perplexity input limits so they don’t need to pay more for the third LLM usages they provided. And of course they can’t have their MAX subs suffering downsides.

This is my humble opinion seem everything that has going on here. I’ve reported everything through discord and emails but, nothing.

It’s a clear strategy to convert as many advanced users into MAX tier as possible so they can profit enough to increase their GPT, Claude and third party services limits. And start all over again the same strategy - bring thousands of free pro accounts -> convert to MAX

I’m a Pro subscriber and suddenly I’m getting a message saying that image generation is not available in my region. This is very strange because I’ve been using it in Bulgaria for a long time without any issues until now.
I’ve already tried everything to fix it:
•Switched between different image models;
•Tested on different devices;
•Tried multiple browsers and cleared cache;

Let me see if I’ve understood this correctly: users who had a Perplexity Pro subscription for 12 months through free promotions or special offers are now, under the new terms, required to enter a payment method in order to continue using Pro. But that’s not all — once a payment method is added, the new terms also introduce automatic renewal, which was not part of the original agreement, unless the user cancels in advance.
So in practice, I’m at risk of being charged if I simply forget to cancel. That’s honestly absurd.
None of this makes sense. Why would Perplexity roll out all these promotions and then, just a few months later, change the terms entirely? Do they realize that this approach will drive customers away rather than attract new ones?
Someone should seriously push to restore things to how they were before and address this issue properly. Users should report this en masse, with clear explanations and reasoning. You can’t just go back on your word — this is a matter of principle. Changing agreements unilaterally, at your own convenience, is not acceptable.
This is truly disappointing. Perplexity team, I hate to say it because I genuinely love this AI and everything about it, but this move is a real low point.

I assume the amount of free users via promotions are just too big and not enough convert. If you look here most "bug" reports are free/promotional user that have issues with their promotion.

Second, auto renewal is pretty standard in many fields and for many software tools. Some even charge penalties when you cancel too early. Happened to me once with Adobe so stayed and then forgot to cancel again 😫

Have you all ever contacted support? How long do they usually take to respond to emails? The AI bot said it was transferring me to someone but it’s been a full 24 hours. I ended up sending an email, which basically ended the same way.

I let my pro sub expire from Apple’s App Store and I wanted to resub for the discounted edu pro. After getting verified and fully clearing all browser data and logging out everywhere, still no dice on the discounted rate.

I would rather advise u go browser for urself and find some simple browser extensions that let u download pages and then put the downloaded_page.file into any good ai of choice

It allows you to just search SEC docs which is very useful for stock research (SEC documents are notoriously frustrating to read, and this feature has made life so much easier for me). Hello. My issue concerns weekly image uploads. I would like to share with you a problem I am having today with the file upload limit on my Perplexity Education Pro membership. I am still looking for a solution. As a solution, I thought that uploading the images (10 in total) as a single PDF file and telling the model which image to process would be sufficient. However, the model did not accept this (it said it couldn't access the images even though I uploaded the PDF) and suggested sharing a Drive link, but sharing the link did not solve the problem either. They suggested Dropbox, which didn't work either. We even tried base64, but that didn't work either. So, is the problem unsolvable? Was it intentionally designed so that these images can be viewed (analyzed) via a link or connection without uploading the file? What I see is an access restriction, and they claim it's supposedly for security reasons. (gpt 5.2 think) My work was interrupted, and I still haven't found a solution. Does anyone have any suggestions? (Other than upgrading my membership..)

99% of the people complaining are coming from a free promo plan. The definition of promo is literally to get people to buy a product because they like it and not getting free stuff. I totally understand your frustration with the changing quota and the way it was introduced is not ok and could have been managed better. I was once in that exact situation and had to turn a very successful software that was free of charge for academics into a commercial product. People did not like but in the end most understood why we had to do it.
For me currently it is worth the max subscription and with the latest fixes I would even be willing to cut some other expenses if I had to. Hi! I’m having an issue with image uploads and I’d like to know if this is a bug or a new limitation.

I’m on Perplexity Pro (not Max), using PC / web. Today I uploaded only a few images (around 4) in my conversations. Now, whenever I click the attach/upload button to add a new image, it does not open the file picker. Instead, it immediately redirects me to a page asking me to upgrade to Pro Max.

Important details:

I already tried starting a completely new thread.

I tested in another browser where I had never opened Perplexity before (no cache, no cookies, no extensions) and the same thing happens.

I am still actively subscribed to Pro, and everything else works normally except image/file uploads.

This is blocking my workflow because I regularly need to upload reference images for design and social media posts.

Is this behavior intentional (new upload limit for Pro) or is it a bug?

If it’s a bug, could someone please reset/fix my upload permissions on my account?

With some of the new changes to the research limits, have any of y’all played around with engineering some more articulated research prompts to cover at least SOME of that ground to help non research prompts iterate and articulate themselves better?

I recognize it’s impossible to recreate the proprietary tool but with how easy it is to miss the tally of remaining searches, I’m curious if yall have tried to build something to at least partially work around that to finish a project more efficiently than just breaking up normal searches

I just moved on to a better platform and use Google, Stepfun and/or Z.ai.
I am completely unwilling to put energy into a service that treats their paying (!!!) customers like shit.

Depending on your needs, NotebookLM (by Google/Gemini) gives excellent results with their deep research.
Stepfuns deep research UX is more in line with what Perplexity was doing.
If I need to work with local files I prefer Z.Ai GLM (either on the web or via e.g. opencode)

There is absolutely no way I'm going to renew my Perplexity subscription.

Hey @everyone — does anyone know if there’s a way to configure Comet/Perplexity so the AI always asks for confirmation before using any tool/action that consumes tokens (e.g., Browser Control / browser automation, etc.)?

Context: even for simple questions (like explaining something or answering from general knowledge), it sometimes triggers browser control when it clearly isn’t necessary, and then it ends up spending tokens automatically.

What I want is a “safe mode” / hard rule like: “Before using any tool that costs tokens, ask me and wait for my OK.”

I’ve noticed that Comet often asks for confirmation before executing an action and that you can interrupt the agent at any time with the “Stop” button, but I’d like to make confirmation mandatory, not just “sometimes.”

Specific questions:

Is there a global setting (settings/policies) to require confirmation before any tool use?

Can I enforce this via a default prompt/instructions (like “never use Browser Control without asking permission”)?

If there’s no setting, what’s the best prompt pattern to minimize unnecessary tool usage as much as possible?

If it helps, I can share screenshots/logs showing when it activates Browser Control without me asking.

Not a good answer for your question, I’ve never worked with tokens, but when you hit the + icon before typing you can configure which resources (for example web usage) perplexity is allowed to use

@pale glade have you asked Perplexity 🤷‍♀️ I always just ask it. And if there is no way for a fall back for user okay, perplexity will help you write a solution.

@pale glade I literally just asked my Perplexity pro what to do in your situation and it spit out like four pages of everything that’s wrong internally. About how everything was marketed and all that other fun stuff so if you actually have Pro Max or enterprise, you can go right in and ask it all right what do I do? And there is no token control at all whatsoever. And it was definitely marketed wrong, including to myself, and considering I bought perplexity to build a pattern detecting domain engine. And all that documentation is still contained within my account because I share all the threads in a space. So like my own, Perplexity was like yup you’re right you were told that it was unlimited pro searches. And the lack of an API key without having to buy more is absurd and yet this is like one of the best AI models out there.

Fully agree. I use deep search for scientific analysis. I don't overuse it (max 2-3 times a day). But 20 searches per month is not enough (and apparently the Max subscription only gives you 10 more searches—still too few and much too expensive for me).

That's what I read here (to be confirmed).
My current alternative remains ChatGPT Advanced Thinking (accessible with the pro option). But I still find Perplexity Deep Search's analyses to be of higher quality.
However, if the limit does not increase again, I will have to look for alternatives.
