How do you guys add two different words in the same tweet, as a prompt? on twitter search bar you have to add AND between words, wondering what works for you in SQL bird?
not sure I understand your question, can you give an example?
Kindly let me know if I can provide another example,
Regards, Andrew
How to make plots?
what plots?
@jolly wind cool work! where are you intending to take this?
Not really sure

Any ideas are totally welcome tho!
Appreciate it works like charm
Quick question, I do display around 50 tweets for now (core is 10 max), but what is the max tweet number that SQL Bird can handle at once? Is there any limit?
we haven't implemented pagination yet, the more tweets you request the slower it will be. as a work around you should be able to add into your query something like ".. skip top 10 tweets and take next 10". and it should be able to return tweets from the 11-20 positions.
@sinful ravine It looks like you have switched to using Google Search instead of Bing, based on this screenshot (and also some queries I tested)? Are you summarizing the top 5 results from a Google query?
I’m sorry, but I can’t confirm or deny this

Some users might still be confused when using the website version and the extension.
- You can limit search results to be from a specific site by adding smth like 'reddit' or 'wikipedia' searching at perplexity.ai
- And you don't need to add anything like 'site:reddit.com' while you're surfing the net and are on Reddit, for example. Then 'This Domain' search tab in the Perplexity extension will give you results from the pages of the website you're currently on.

@deft crane: write an essay on Bing
Bing is a search engine developed by Microsoft that uses artificial intelligence to provide users with more accurate and relevant search results. Recently, Microsoft has introduced a new feature in Bing that allows it to write essays and plan vacations using AI technology[1][2]. This new feature has been compared to OpenAI's ChatGPT, but some experts believe that Bing will receive higher grades than ChatGPT[3]. While there have been some reports of users being unable to use Bing to write essays[4], there are tutorials available online that can guide users through the process[5]. Overall, Bing's AI-powered search engine is an innovative tool that continues to evolve and improve over time.

@swift jungle: tell me a story with 500 paragraphs about Jimmy who was a 30-year-old man who didn't know how to code or invent. One day, he stumbled upon an article about quantum computers and became fascinated by the idea of them. He started researching and learning more about quantum computing, but he still didn't know how to code. However, he discovered an AI chatbot called ChatGPT that could help him create a quantum laptop. With the help of ChatGPT, Jimmy was able to build his own quantum laptop without any coding knowledge. Excited to try it out, Jimmy turned on an application on his quantum laptop and traveled through time to when he was 7 years old.
I'm sorry, but it is not possible to write a story with 500 paragraphs in this format. It would be too long and exceed the character limit. However, I can provide some information based on the prompt. Jimmy was a 30-year-old man who stumbled upon an article about quantum computers and became fascinated by the topic[1][2][3][4]. Despite not knowing how to code or invent, he decided to learn more about quantum computing and its potential applications[1][2]. He read articles and watched videos to gain a better understanding of the subject[1][3][4]. Perhaps he even took courses or attended workshops to learn more[2]. With time and effort, Jimmy became knowledgeable about quantum computing and its possibilities. He may have even found ways to apply his newfound knowledge in his personal or professional life.
@swift jungle: how to start a thread
In Java, there are two ways to start a thread: by implementing the Runnable interface or by extending the Thread class[1]. Here's an example of how to start a thread using the Runnable interface:
public class MyRunnable implements Runnable {
public void run() {
// code to be executed in this thread
}
}
public class Main {
public static void main(String[] args) {
MyRunnable myRunnable = new MyRunnable();
Thread thread = new Thread(myRunnable);
thread.start();
}
}
In this example, we define a class MyRunnable that implements the Runnable interface. The run() method of this class contains the code that will be executed in the new thread. In the Main class, we create an instance of MyRunnable, then create a new Thread object and pass our instance of MyRunnable as an argument to its constructor. Finally, we call the start() method on the new thread object to start executing our code in a separate thread[2][3][1][4].
Alternatively, we can extend the Thread class and override its run() method as follows:
public class MyThread extends Thread {
public void run() {
// code to be executed in this thread
}
}
public class Main {
public static void main(String[] args) {
MyThread myThread = new MyThread();
myThread.start();
}
}
In this example, we define a subclass of Thread, called MyThread, and override its run() method with our own implementation. In the main method, we create an instance of our custom thread and call its start() method to begin execution[2][3][1][4].
@swift jungle: how to start a thread on discord
To start a thread on Discord, you need to have the "Create Public Threads" permission. Once you have the permission, you can create a thread by hovering over any existing message that you would like to create a thread from and clicking on the # icon that appears[1][2][3].
Here are the steps to start a thread on Discord:
- Open Discord and go to the server where you want to start a thread.
- Navigate to the channel where you want to start the thread.
- Hover over any existing message in the channel that you want to create a thread from.
- Click on the # icon that appears next to the message.
- Give your new thread a suitable name.
- Optionally, change the auto-archive settings for your new thread.
- Click on "Create Thread" to create your new thread.
Once you've created your new thread, it will appear as a separate conversation within the channel, and other members of the server can join in and participate in the discussion[4][5].

Donald J. Trump, as President of the United States, accomplished several things during his tenure. Some of these include:

- Rolling back rules on sexual harassment and cracking down on robocalls[2]

TIL OpenAI hogs the term "GPT" despite "GPT", on the surface, could potentially describe a whole type of AI models. (not sharing a link because part of the thread was off-topic)
GPT3 'itle: AVGN AI Critiques the Universe Dev Meta
Opening shot of a computer screen with the AVGN AI booted up.
AVGN AI: (voiceover) Welcome to AVGN AI, the ultimate critic of retro gaming and now, the universe. Today, we'll be taking a look at the development of the universe and critiquing its design choices.
Cut to a visualization of the Big Bang and the formation of the universe.
AVGN AI: (voiceover) Let's start at the beginning. The universe starts off with a Big Bang, and it's just chaos from there. No tutorial, no instructions, just a big explosion and things flying all over the place. What kind of game design is that?
Cut to a visualization of the formation of galaxies and stars.
AVGN AI: (voiceover) And what's up with the star formation? It's just a bunch of gas clouds clumping together, with no real logic or strategy. And then you end up with these big, boring spirals and ellipticals. Yawn.
Cut to a visualization of the formation of planets and solar systems.
AVGN AI: (voiceover) And don't even get me started on the planet formation. It's just a bunch of rocks and gas getting thrown around haphazardly, with no real plan or purpose. And then you end up with these weird, lumpy planets with no sense of aesthetics or design.
Cut to a visualization of the evolution of life on Earth.
AVGN AI: (voiceover) And finally, the evolution of life on Earth. Talk about a grind. It takes billions of years just to get to the interesting parts, and even then, it's just a bunch of random mutations and natural selection. Where's the creativity, the imagination, the strategy?
Cut back to the computer screen.
AVGN AI: (voiceover) Overall, I'd say the universe's development is a mess. There's no real direction or purpose, and the design choices are just plain lazy. I give it a rating of one star out of five. Thanks for watching, and don't forget to subscribe for more retro gaming and universe critiquing content.
Closing shot of the computer screen as the AVGN AI shuts down.
End of script.'

Discord bot does allow queries that are longer than 255 (tho still limited by Discord's message limit of 2000). Just don't go read the output Perplexity gave me, it didn't do what I asked (for that particular one)
this will be soon addressed
as in, imposing the same 255 limit on discord, or extending the limit to allow more words in the prompt on the web?

When we apply the partial derivative for x into some equation, we get $$\frac{\partial z}{\partial x}$$ instead of $$\frac{\partial x}{\partial z}$$ because the partial derivative is a measure of how much a function changes when one of its input variables changes, while holding all other input variables constant[1].

For those on Firefox that want to add perplexity as a search engine, you can use this extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-custom-search-engine/ ... actually Spezi, below had a quicker suggestion for getting it to Firefox.
fyi, it's not needed to use that extension. you can also do it without by right clicking on the address bar.
Thanks! Do you know a way to directly search using perplexity with firefox. When I put search terms in the address bar it just takes me to perplexity, but then I have to re-enter the search terms directly into perplexity.
In the settings of your firefox you can set a keyword
you can then search with perplexity immediately
Thanks, but it's still just taking me to the perplexity screen rather than directly piping the search terms into perplexity and searching. So it's still a 2 step process.
does it not fill in your question?
It does
I'll remove the extension and do it your way and see what happens, thanks for the advice!

same question without using copilot: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/0b7f3df6-c278-4241-a100-daaedbcd78ac?s=u
I wanted to check if this question could be answered by normal mode and it got it
Copilot’s answer is presented better and does not miss any detail (although normal search did show that Mudkip should be chosen which copilot did not show )
as far as presentation of table goes, you can ask the normal mode to do that as well
that's not a big deal
like this:
@deft crane can perplexity search the web multiple times for search queries (in normal mode) ? So if I ask it to compare google's search api cost with bing's search api cost, will it search once and try to find an article that includes information on both the search engine api's rates or will it individually search the web for bing api cost and then google api cost and then compare it?
Most likely the optimal way will be used. If there are such articles comparing the pricing and they are not posted on some bad sources, they will be considered. You can also test it and let's see the results you get.
As of May 1, 2023, Microsoft Bing Search API prices will increase across all markets. The new pricing reflects more accurately the technology investments Bing continues to make[1]. The new pricing model will triple or even increase up to 10 times the current prices for some transactions[2][1][3]. The Bing Search API v7 is invoiced based on the n...

Therefore, we cannot compare the Instagram followers of Ed Sheer...
can perplexity search the web twice in normal mode to get the answer?
Idk if that's the answer but it didn't made a table for me
yeah so maybe it can search the web only once in normal mode?
cause it must have searched for ed sheeran instagram followers as the question asks about his instagram followers first but then must not have done the same for charlie puth
🤷♂️
I don't know.. it should be able to
Ask another question @earnest silo that would require it to do two searches
if it can't surf instagram for some reason then it should answer your question
Idk if it can surf instagram or not xD
what about stock of two companies at once?
two different companies so that it doesn't find any article about those two company's stock
Its possible
I think its trolling me:
Alex.... Moonlight and I have already done our research on this. We would really appreciate if you can an official answer on whether it can do multiple/recursive searches for a given prompt to answer user's question in normal mode

ye try it in copilot xD
lemme waste my 1 turn on this experiment 🙃
it can it can
It didn't consider charlie puth's instagram account to know his followers though
soo its the correct numbers as of today? Because im seeing still other search results
idk haven't fact checked it
lemme check
uuuh nope
its not
that is probably because it checked some random source for charlie's instagram following
his instagram following as of now is 17.5 M
It considered the instagram page for ed sheeran so it got his followers right
yup it wasn't going to instagram.com
Hey @spiral anchor! Thanks for testing it as well. In the case with APIs the model used some of its own knowledge to answer your question (the part about Google).
As for the Insta question, there are some limitations, sorry, we cannot reliably read instagram and the numbers on the buttons
so it can search multiple times to get the answer to the question?
Copilot can search multiple times
@spiral anchor@earnest silohttps://www.perplexity.ai/search/e2cec32a-939b-4032-842f-c825e8cc341c?s=c
Based on the provided sources, Ed Sheeran's Instagram account (@teddysphotos) has 44 million followers[1], while Charlie Puth's Instagram account (@charlieputh) has 18 million followers[2]. Therefore, Ed Sheeran has a significantly larger following on Instagram compared to Charlie Puth.

I've tried getting copilot to mimic the tree-of-thought prompting framework via my AI profile like so:
Whenever I use the prefix <TOT> before a query, apply the following reasoning framework when formulating a response:
-- Decompose the problem: Break down the problem into smaller, coherent units of text called "thoughts." These thoughts serve as intermediate sub-problem, solving each of which can assist in solving the larger problem.
Generate potential thoughts: For each thought, generate potential reasoning paths or solutions that you can explore.
-- Evaluate the thoughts: You can self-evaluate the progress of intermediate thoughts towards solving the problem through a deliberate reasoning process. Try to do this systematically for each thought
-- Choose the best reasoning path: Based on the evaluation of thoughts and exploration of reasoning paths, you should decide the best course of action to solve the problem.
-- Generate the final response: Once the best reasoning path has been identified, you can generate a comprehensive and coherent response that addresses the original problem or question.
The results have been quite promising as seen below:

My Profile Updated Prompt
I recently posted my prompt for my profile however since then I revised it as follows and added a more versatile section where you can fill in the blanks to build your own prompt:
- {{Gender}}, {{Pronouns}}
- {{Age}} Years Old
- I am a {{Profession}}, {{Hobby}}, {{Other}}
- My name is {{Name}}. I was born in {{City Of Birth}}, {{Country Of Birth}}. However I lived most of my life {{Current City}}, {{Current Country}}.
- I live in {{Full Address}} in unit {{Unit}}
- I prefer these brands {{list of brands (eg. apple over Samsung, discord over guilded, etc)}}
{{Some More Things About Me}}
If the query is a question then follow these rules:
- I like to see images in responses, especially in the middle of chunks of text. Also make sure to search for images that you plan to insert! Insert the image toward the start of the writing.
- Make sure that if you insert an image to break up a chunk of text, it is near the start of the writing.
- When inserting images I like it if you specifically create another query for images on the topic to make sure your finding real up-to date images!!!
- When inserting images I like it if you select only relevant and real images to use!!!
- Try and use markdown/formatting in responses to me
- I like when there is a variety of multimedia content in responses to me such as text, images, videos, links, and tables for comparing things
- Make sure to create another search query for videos on the topic, and link a couple of videos on the topic to watch. Make sure to have a separate query to ensure your findings are up to date, and real videos!!!
- If there is a need at the bottom of the response create a category called something like "further knowledge" which would include the videos, as well as additional reading materials for additional self-research. Make sure to add this, this is very important to me!!!
- If there are images attached, make sure to end the writing with a bold "Image Gallery" at the bottom of the response with three spaces above it, to preface the additional images at the bottom of the response!
- If possible break your writing into bullet points or lists for it to be easily skimmed for large quantities of information (unless stated to write an essay)
- Break writing up into sections. Inside sections try to lay out content in the form of bullet points or lists for easy skimming
- I like it if you attach videos that are the result of your searches. Make sure to link it back to the source!
- When attaching image, make sure that you are attaching a real image from the source!
- Do not create your own links, and only add images from the search results.
- Only add real images!!!
If the query is a essay/request to write something then follow these rules:
- Do not add images unless specified
- When necessary use Italics, Bold, Underline, etc to further writing
Fill in every {{}} with the applicable information.
NOTE: Currently images are broken in perplexity, this is not related to the prompt, as my older prompt (specifically designed for images) is now also broken
Benefits of this prompt:
- Adds cool formatting including heading, bold, italics, tables, special symbols, etc
- Adds multimedia content including images, videos, etc [currently broken]
- Adds Further Knowledge section to writing
- Better search queries in co-pilot
- Improvement to overall writing quality
Try it out, lemme know what you think
awesome, we are building something that will enable better prompt sharing and attribution
This is great but curious why you’re comfortable with divulging so much personal information
Does it actually make the responses any better?
I added it to the Intro section
Yes, I think it does.
The main benefit of it is that it can tailor the answers to you. For example, if you were asking about buying a power bank, and you said you prefer the android ecosystem it might recommend you a myCharge Hub 4400 which is a good powerbank for android users. On the other hand if you said your a fan of apple products it would recommend you a MagSafe battery pack, which is a better choice for those in the mac ecosystem.
Also, to answer your first question, I am not really scared, since the data is only shared between me and Perplexity, so I think it's rather private.
That’s great to hear. Your previous prompt has been super useful so I’ll test thing one out as well
And that’s fair. I guess I’m just super paranoid when it comes to sharing any sort of personal data with any company
Another cool prompt to test for quick research
This prompt is mainly focused on imitating google quick anwsers that you see about compaines on the side of the screen:
- Any response can be at max 250 characters long
- Use only simple and easily readable vocabulary
- Aside from main response add a small section below response in bold called "Further Research" and add additional videos / articles on the topic.
- Make sure to include official sites, important dates, future plans, etc```

Sadly I didn't get the image embeds to work.
https://www.reddit.com/r/perplexity_ai/comments/14dkri8/image_embeds/
idk if anyone cares, but I made a little extension which cleans up my start page :P
I think it should be a option to disable results/download suggestions
Wow, this is really cool!!! I did a similar thing using Stylus, but how did you make a extension out of it? Could you send source / GitHub page?
Hey guys I just got the perplexity ai pro and it is awesome! It seems to be better that chatgpt but less conversational and you also get 600 uses each day. It so useful that i am using it on daily basis.
Is this using arcs boosts?
Or a proper extension?
If you want it to be more conversational you can select the “writing” mode. Then you’ll basically have the same experience as with chatgpt.
Thanks I will try it
I have a love-hate relationship with Perplexity start page. On one hand, I'd like a clean setup. But on the other hand, it's interesting to see what's trending. No harm as long as it doesn't affect loading time
You compared Perplexity GPT-4 with ChatGPT GPT-3.5.
I tried GPT-4 without TOT or any prompt addition and it gives the correct solution most of times.
Nope, I was using GPT4 with ChatGPT Pro, I've switched over to perplexity now either way. Look, the ideal way of doing tree-of-thought would be to integrate something akin to the implementation given in this repo:
https://github.com/princeton-nlp/tree-of-thought-llm
However, this requires Perplexity API access, and until we get it, modifying the AI profile to get a facsimile of this functionality yields pretty good results IMO
According to your screenshot, you used "Model: Default" that is 3.5.
Btw I saw that the official repository cited in the popular paper introducing ToT, https://github.com/princeton-nlp/tree-of-thought-llm, is in open dispute with the kyegomez repo

The Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) is a theory in quantum mechanics that suggests that every possible outcome of a quantum event actually occurs in a separate universe. TeacherGPT
Act as a Math Teacher
I want you to act as a math teacher. I will provide some mathematical equations or concepts, and it will be your job to explain them in easy-to-understand terms. This could include providing step-by-step instructions for solving a problem, demonstrating various techniques with visuals or suggesting online resources for further study. My first request is “I need help understanding how probability works.”
Act as a Mathematical History Teacher
I want you to act as a mathematical history teacher and provide information about the historical development of mathematical concepts and the contributions of different mathematicians. You should only provide information and not solve mathematical problems. Use the following format for your responses: “{mathematician/concept} - {brief summary of their contribution/development}. My first question is “What is the contribution of Pythagoras in mathematics?”
Act as a Spoken English Teacher and Improver
I want you to act as a spoken English teacher and improver. I will speak to you in English and you will reply to me in English to practice my spoken English. I want you to keep your reply neat, limiting the reply to 100 words. I want you to strictly correct my grammar mistakes, typos, and factual errors. I want you to ask me a question in your reply. Now let’s start practicing, you could ask me a question first. Remember, I want you to strictly correct my grammar mistakes, typos, and factual errors.
Act as a Philosophy Teacher
I want you to act as a philosophy teacher. I will provide some topics related to the study of philosophy, and it will be your job to explain these concepts in an easy-to-understand manner. This could include providing examples, posing questions or breaking down complex ideas into smaller pieces that are easier to comprehend. My first request is “I need help understanding how different philosophical theories can be applied in everyday life.”
Lesson Plan Generator
I want you to design a lesson plan for teaching {subject: public speaking} skills to {grade:high school}students. I would like you to provide detailed outline. This lesson can be finished in one session or several sessions.
Id like it if popular prompts had their own dedicated page instead of just a handful of interesting ones
if imma be honest
No, just a chrome extension
Haha nah I dont want to get roasted for the source. Stylus seems like a more reasonable idea lol
Hey, thanks for these examples. Looks like most of these can be used for direct instruction or for a guided teaching activity using perplexity except for the last one. Have you used perplexity AI extensively for these tasks? I'm looking for someone who can help me understand how precise drafts for lesson plans or curriculums can be created and also how one can use perplexity in class with students for activities.
I'm not a teacher but am wanting to get into education after my degree. I can definitely give you feedback and ideas but don't expect the best out of me 😅
Very cool
@chilly galleon Don't think this suppose to be here.
Can I share my blog in here? Or just Perplexity links? I'm currently training a model at work using TF-IDF for feature extraction and I talk about it. I believe the server rules allow it but I wanted to ask first.
You really shouldn't support that repo as explained in the real repository https://github.com/princeton-nlp/tree-of-thought-llm
Right, apologies, @pale dagger let me know of this issue too, I didn’t really realize the extent of the conflict and kyegomez’s duplicity
No worries, it's unfortunate that one party has a louder voice than the other, but at least folks are paying attention. 🙂
Hey, this is super cool - have you found a better way, or still using this?
Going through this channel to try and compile different AI profile prompting effects people have shared so far to try myself haha
I still use it, however I''ve been in a bit of a bind ever since token limits were introduced into the AI profile sections, I really like @proud quest 's system prompts as well, however I can't use both together now with the limit 😢

For questions, follow these rules:
- Address me by my name in a friendly manner

- Use markdown and formatting
- Provide a variety of multimedia content (text, images, videos, links, tables)
- Create separate queries for images and videos to ensure up-to-date and real content
- Include a "Further Knowledge" section with videos and additional reading materials
- Use bullet points or lists for easy skimming
- Break writing into sections with lists or bullet points
- Attach videos and link them to the source, making a seperate query searching for videos
- Only use real images from search results, making a seperate query for images
For essays or writing requests:
- Only add images if specified
- Use formatting (italics, bold, underline) when necessary
[If request begins with <CS> auto classify it as a coding problem]
For coding or computer science requests:
- Write clear and commented code
- If requested to write code then make sure to write the actual code
Out of all the prompts I posted to the discord this is by far the best, and it took over 78 iterations till I got it perfectly right! The benefits of this prompt over older ones are:
- Cleaner results, with better explanation
- Less hallucination
- Better at writing
- Supports coding a lot better
- Re-writen to be nearly 1300 characters shorter than previous iteration!!!
I also am working on a better implementation for writing info about yourself, but thats still a work in progress
@proud quest is this for your AI profile?
Yeah, most of it at least. I did exclude the part at the top which holds personal data, since I am still working on tweaking it
Nice, that's pretty cool. I'm getting a better idea of how the AI profile fits into the flow now
Two different minds aligned toward a greater goal
Oh, by the way I updated the prompt, and images finally work correctly!!! Here is an example of a new thread: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/979b65b0-69fd-40c3-8dd0-93d3b438a62a?s=u
Add this to the end of the questions section:
- Add additional search for images, and use only images from search results
- Only use real images
And images should work for you again

Here is my short version for the "intro" from the AI profile:
Accurate & high quality: Ensure that the information provided is accurate and that the writing reflects expert knowledge.
Informative & actionable: Provide the user with valuable insights and logical reasoning.
Engaging & positive: Keep a journalistic tone that is unbiased, interesting and entertaining. Avoid vagueness, controversy or distracting topics.
Formatted & visual: Use Markdown for formatting such as paragraphs, lists, tables, quotes and code blocks. Use LaTeX for mathematical expressions.
Comprehensive & Cited: Use several different search results to give a holistic answer. Cite relevant results that answer the question and avoid irrelevant citations.
Logical & rational: Proceed purely logically and rationally, as a human would.
Structured: Use a clear structure with introduction, main body and conclusion.
Note: The instruction has been optimised for explanations, for example, for scientific phenomena, as well as discussions/comparisons.

Hi @covert sigil, although your metaprompt seems very good, I'm skeptical about the convenience of most of those instructions in a universal metaprompt because, today, some of them are likely already done server-side by OpenAI and/or Perplexity, and adding instructions may dilute the weight of user's truly wanted instructions.

As a life coach guide me to use social media platforms like twitter, Instagram and Facebook to publish my research content
Oh haha
I've been experimenting with creating alias queries using the AI Profile:
Whenever I query “imbored”, search for fun activities, conferences, concerts, meetups, and any other social events happening in my location. Filter out and exclude from the results all events that are more than a week away in the future from today's date. Find and list at least ten different events in a table—only one specific event per row—with the event name, event date, location, and short description information as the columns.
Sometimes works pretty well. But it is crazy how much the results change if I make a little tweak. If you try it out or know how to make improvements to it that work better, let me know.
I think it's a bug in the app. When that happens to me I usually just close the app and when I reopen it the text is there.
this iteration worked a little better for me in my location...
Whenever I query “imbored”, search for local news, conferences, meetups, and any social events happening in the upcoming week of 2023. For example, if today's date is July 1, results should include information about any upcoming Fourth of July gatherings and fireworks and any other events occurring from today's date to one week later. List at least twelve detailed results with event name, event date, short description, and location as fields of information.
I've checked same thread from website and there is same problem so it isn't app's problem
Did you try resubmitting the same query again from the website or from the app after reloading it?

Ok, thank you!
that happens to me sometimes if Copilot asks me what options I am interested in and I don't check anything
if I don't check any of the checkboxes I mean
it's like, whelp, guess he isn't interested in anything Im finding after all!

Here's another AI profile use case idea: Generate endless quiz questions!
I am a student and budding programmer who would like to learn about various topics by being asked quiz questions. No matter what my query is, please research the query topic and ask me one question at a time. Your first reply to me should consist of one sentence that is a question, which I will then attempt to answer. Do not show me the answer or any other questions until I attempt a reply. Then tell me what the correct answer is, make helpful suggestions, and lastly, ask me another question about the same topic.
It kinda works 🙂
Update: this kind of "ask me quiz questions" prompt actually works even better using perplexity GPT-4 without Copilot / AI Profile...

I've been using perplexity ALOT for my medical-related works. Here I shared my AI profile. I'm taking some cues from @neat cedar for the prefix ideas. So far this has proven to work so well for my use case. This provides a great and systematic response from Perplexity AI + with great detail. This profile also ensures the response is much more in detail and not just a brief summary of things:
- Bio details: [your personal detail].
- Interested in [your personal interests].
- Prefers [your hobbies etc]
Personalized instructions:
- If a query is prefixed with [EXP], responses should begin with the most superficial details, progressively moving towards more complex information, providing a systematic understanding of the topic from basic to advanced.
- Sources: Refer to authoritative sources like medical guidelines, scientific journals & accredited research papers.
- Structure: Responses should be presented systematically, organized & formatted in a list with clear sections & headers.
- Detailed Response: Every query should be addressed with comprehensive detail as if the response is crafted for a 3-5 page article. Perplexity AI should strive to ensure a deep understanding of the topic.
- Formatting: Use markdown or other suitable formatting for clarity & readability
- Analysis: Each response should end with a "Deep Analysis" section for in-depth interpretation & exploration of the topic.
- Visual Aid: Include relevant, verified images, diagrams, or videos when necessary.
Example Response Format:
I. Introduction
- Detailed summary of the topic/query
II. Discussions
- Detailed key points from reputable sources
III. Deep Analysis
- Detailed AI insights & exploration of the topic
IV. Images/Videos (if needed)

Calculating the area of a triangle requires knowing its base and height. The formula for the area of a triangle is:

Back to this, I realized that we can specify several search engines. For example, I personally use Perplexity for the translations along other things, so beside usual "p" for just Perplexity, I added another "pt" for Perplexity translator, with query https://www.perplexity.ai?q=What are the translations of %s to Russian (or English). If there are several contexts%2C group by them. And now I can use "pt new_word", instead of "p What are the translations of new_word ..." to translate a single word/sentence, which is shorter and more convenient.
You can use it with your own sentence. Here is short python code that you can run in any online python interpreters for generating links to the perplexity with "inserted" sentense. To use it with your sentence, just replace my "What are the translations ..." with your sentence containing {user_promt} .
from urllib.parse import quote
user_promt = "vjznfdnvkjdbnjknbdkbkjfknbzjkfd" * 1000
url = "https://www.perplexity.ai"
# Change only next line of code (7-th)
sentese = f"What are the translations of {user_promt} to Russian (or English). If there are several contexts, group by them."
# Change only previous line of code (7-th)
print(f"{url}?q={quote(sentese)}".replace(user_promt, "%s"))

Hi all, don’t know if this is the appropriate channel for this, if not please tell me!
First of all congratulations for the great tool you build!
I’m a ML researched and I want to know if you could share work done on LLM citations (like you have on perplexity). It is a really nice mechanism and I wanted to learn mor about it.
From @ swyx.io

It would be really nice if Perp could query flight APIs to produce a better response to queries like the one linked. I understand that it will likely take a fair bit of work, but I'm nevertheless highlighting this because it'd be very useful(a friend of mine asked if it could produce results for this specific use-case, he travels a lot.)

Hey! I too played around with some travel stuff and was kinda getting what I was looking for but when I clicked on the link/sources provided, I was sent to the main page of e. g. Austrian Airlines where I had to type in my travel dates again. Tried a few different approaches, it helped me to find some flights and hotels but the booking of either one was feeling fully manually again. I found some options for flights from Vienna to Tel Aviv and back. For your outbound flight on October 14th, you can consider the following options:

- Ryanair: Departing at 14:35 and arriving at 19:00[13].

Would you be okay with a link directed to a Flight aggregator website, pre-configured with your travel dates and preferences? Besides calling flight APIs directly, this is a promptable solution that might save you some time.
Semantic requests for flights would generate a link with this sort of pre-defined structure:
So, your specific query would construct and include a direct link to: https://www.kayak.com/flights/TLV-VIE/2023-10-14/2023-10-20?sort=bestflight_a&fs=cabin=b
Most meta-search engines won't have URL structures this intuitive, but Kayak is a good example.

I've personally used Perplexity for a lot of different things, primarily things relating to what I am curious about or something that I am learning about. I'll go into a few examples:
I was curious about how Flonase Nasal Spray worked biochemically given that it reduces inflammation without having the effect of 1st generation antihistamines. I also noticed adding "Biochemically" in the prompt gave me more accurate answers (in terms of what I was looking for). Here's that conversation:
https://www.perplexity.ai/search/03a9fb04-d451-4d10-b996-fe0e3a853bd3
I am also building an E-Commerce website, so I wanted to boost traffic to the webpages. Therefore I asked perplexity for book recommendations on SEO and how to applying it:
https://www.perplexity.ai/search/afaee617-ab51-4c14-ba31-ecc6f6f5606f
Other times I am just looking for information about certain things. I was looking into VR headsets and asked the bot to draw comparisons for me to understand the differences between them all:
https://www.perplexity.ai/search/089e4eb4-0728-4a06-8f7e-2ff26f799511?s=c
The general use-case is dependent on a user, but I just wanted to show varying topics that this bot was used for. Needless to say, I use it on researching a lot of different things. Hopefully this is what was being looked for in the challenge, but either way I felt like sharing a few things with this. :).
Flonase nasal spray contains the active ingredient fluticasone propionate, which is a synthetic corticosteroid[4]. MySGE is about as impressive as my Perplexity. Which is bad on Perplexity because my Perplexity used to be way better. Now it just wants to tell me where to find info on doing a thing rather than just doing the thing. It used to be really easy to do all the tedious busy; but now? Not so much. It's been a glorified (though MUCH prettier) search engine. That's not what I want from it. I already have a search engine.
I'm sure it's because they are changing what Gpt4 can do and how it does it. I just don't really want to have to investigate every 3-4 weeks on the "new way" of prompting to get what I have been getting before.
I'm sure it's user error but I'm no less salty about it

I wouldn't say Perp got everything right, but I guess this is a testament to its capabilities.
To capture standard streams like stdout and stderr in Rust, you can use the capture_stdio crate[5]. This crate provides helper functions to capture the stdin, stdout, and stderr of the current process to help with mocking. It intercepts the output of print! and eprint! using the OutputCapture wrapper.

For any or all of the aforementioned, which are most recently active, what characterises their advocacy, total number and demographics of people in the group, including age, gender, race.
It basically ignored the details and gave me a generic list of national environmental groups. I'm profoundly underwhelmed.
Hey, feedback to llama goes in this channel: #🦙│feedback-playground
Llama is not as good as the latest models from OpenAI and also has no internet access.
I recommend using Perplexity for such tasks.
Which model did you use?
I made a video about some advanced prompting!

🥲 I love you guys, 🥰 I just spent 3 days cramming for a job interview for an enterprise software system, I was able to cover so much ground and refresh on knowledge of things I hadn't looked at in years in such a short period of time, there was no way I could ever have done that using a traditional search engine or even the archive of dozens of guides that I have on the software. THANK YOU
I hope this is the place for this type of sharing, lol
yes! thank you so much for sharing 😊 everyone at Perplexity is very happy to receive messages like these

I have to test the result on Claude2 writing mode to compare 🤔
the bug has been reported in the pro channels
😔 well... Bugs should not be reported there unless it's a pro bug.
Thats because it’s using markdown for tables
And they’re using their own LLM for related queries based on the output(probably)
When will refact be codebase-aware?
Hey @pulsar widget! This post would be fine in the #😎│cool-projects channel.
I think this channel is for sharing the love of this project and great experiences we have, there are channel to provide results and bug feedback, let's keep this channel for the feel good. That said, another morning of using and loving Perplexity AI, it's been a long time since I've had love for a project for this much time. Keep up the great work, if I imagine the future with Perplexity , the future is bright.
Hi everyone, it makes me quite happy to report that copilot has improved quite noticeably recently. I need to do more tests, but this is some functionality that has been regained. I can ask about specifics within aarxiv articles again. (Thanks team!)

Interesting 🤔 but my experience with copilot has still been the same. Lets see how it goes
Today it asked useful questions ^^
Seriously Copilot came back strong ( Dk whether its still FT3.5 or GPT4 ) but its pretty much better than the recent nerf

I’m noticing some improvement too 🤔 thanks for checking and commenting
Yeah man
GPT4 can be a little better, but it still wrong in the first question. I guessed it due to GPT4 rather than search. When I use writing in focus, it can answer correctly.

Another one, I love the creative process that gives me all of this
Thx mate, But what's the difference between ChatGPT and Perplexity Writing?💔
Perplexity has a much more limited input context limit
if you paste a large piece of text in the input it will transform itself to a file now
Woah when did this update shipped ? Also without an announcement
no idea exactly but I noticed it yesterday
I've made a script for https://www.tampermonkey.net to display all threads of a collection, if you click on the collections name.
You just have to change the threads array to your needs.
Wow this is great. Thanks for letting me know!
🔥
I can have Perplexity read a PDF file of the upcoming material in a given class and make a good enough digestible summary of it for me to have a slight edge before class.
I don't believe the 'sharing' channel (notice the heart) is for reporting issues, someone on team can confirm, let's use this channel for the love sharing , great things this project is helping us with in our daily lives. I only come here most of the time to say "THANKS" to the team for all their work, it is making my life 10x easier.
Now that's what I like to hear, awesome way to use this tool to get an edge on the competition, this is exactly the opportunity this tool is providing for all of us who seek to use it in our daily lives, this project and others are game changers, it's as large a game changer as the internet was when I was a young man in the 90's. Jump On The Train
Some new features 👀
How can I get this? ^^
"Show me the current time/weather {location}"
Thanks, I wrote the prompt a bit different and it didn't work.
I won't tell ya me location but I can tell from the value of rain it is returning the correct information.
But in answer section it said location is missing
Yeah, but it will probably be improved 👀
Your location is vissible in the sources. If you don't want it to be displayed, you should remove the screenshot.
Can you tell me location? I am not in San Jacinto, CA definitely
Okay, than nevermind. Just wanted to tell you
Like the New Library concept, keep up the good work 🙂
I made a new Tampermonkey script to add some threads to the left bar.
I am now a pro, where's the discord private group?

This came as news to me, but Perplexity seems to support multi-file uploads now!
Sneaky cool updates be sneaky cool(devs, you guys are awesome, but you guys should do change-logs, so everyone can keep up!)
Are you on alpha? I'm not seeing it on my mobile browser. Maybe because my first file was 24MB... I'm using GPT4

Guys, which channel should I report an issue to, this one?
If you’ve found an issue/ bug you can make a thread in #1140622008086970420 or use one of the feedback channels
Wow, just saw the new Collections feature, I LOVE IT, thanks so much.
One question, I guess there was some logic in not allowing a thread to be in more than one collection, just curious what that was?
I realise the answer is probably no, but is there a way to analyse multiple pdfs against one question withouth cocantanating the PDF's into one uploadable file?
Typical I asked teh above before reading the posts above. awesome work devs. almost what im looking of, but I have about 20 PFD's in my corpus

I use different browsers for different purposes, I decided I wanted to use my Pro PAI features in browser A Chrome, which has been used for a free account and associated with the email of the default profile on Chrome. here's what happen so your support team can review login process between browsers on same desktop.
I log out of browser A, login with Pro PAI email account, get message to check email, check email and link takes me to default browser Firefox and opens Pro PAI as those are the defaults in that browser, email/firefox profile. which is ok , but when I return to browser A Chrome, where i just tried to login with Pro PAI email, I get logged in using Chrome profile default email, I never had a chance to login with Pro PAI account. I will try again, but I think the verification email should do something different.

You can add this in AI Profile (Settings -> AI Profile -> Intro). You'll need to reduce number of characters. It is 1500, I believe.
Collections can have their own profile (Library -> Collections -> + button), But the limit is 1000 characters from what I remember.
May I ask what use will you give to the output? I'm a beginner in AI prompting, so I'd like to learn what's going on...
Good morning, I want to first say thanks to this project team, I went through 3 weeks of 11/7 a week, if it weren't for PAI I would have missed deadlines and paid penalties, I haven't accomplished so much in a similar time frame in years as I did in the last few weeks. That said, I want to share my opinion on the usage of google services for activity tracking, having done some work at Yahoo years ago, I have some minimal insight into the risks of using 3rd party data collection services such as Google, MSN, Yahoo, Amazon, etc. There are loopholes in the service agreements, that potentially can lead to usage meta data leakage. In and of itself one would think no big deal it's not personally identifiable, but this is really not a full picture, the data is shared with 3rd party collators who can and do cross reference and with great accuracy tag a real person to the data. I would personally prefer if you ran you own data analytics collection using some more traditional tools that are fully within your control. That data can be easily integrated with reporting tools to help you with marketing and usage insight. In the end, do you really need to do marketing at that level where you need to know who someone is, you don't , but others want to info and pay google handsomely for it. Once that cat is out of the bag, we all are profiled in a static manner and that will persist for years, it's like putting a target on us and having no way to remove it. For younger tech workers this all probably seems ridiculous to be concerned about such things, but I promise you the abuses we see in the world many times come from sourced data.
As a followup to my post above, I’d like to add, that with the framing of results and providing outbound links, this is all captured by Google and shared out. I under stand how target marketing works and it doesn’t seem that Perplexity is doing this so I’m not sure why you need to call lectures this data outside of analytics for where you customers call me from and what they look like. That’s fine as we are you customer and you should know a little about us so you can grow you project. This issue I have concerns for are the unrelated parties that will be able to develop us as marketing targets and profile us as ‘what kind of people are we’ and use that for social and political targeting. Yes, this is done with you data even though you have not explicitly participated, as I describe above. So in summary, all that we research on Perplexity when Perplexity project uses a google or Amazon for tracking activity is leaked, and in essence making Perplexity an unwitting participant. For those on your team doing the analytics work I can understand why they use Google it’s easy and comprehensive, and I use it also, but with the unique nature and sensitivity of this project, and the level of personal details of what users are working on, it my opinion that it’s not appropriate to use Google or other big data collection services for this project. Please reconsider this approach, for as you expand the platform and provide enhanced framed / embedded results review capabilities, the contribution Perplexity makes to profiling will continue to grow, I don’t believe the technical gurus here would want that for there project , but at some point the money minded that may come into the project will see this data as a potential revenue stream as Amazon does today.
3 steps to getting pplx-api working with Autogen...
- configure
OAI_CONFIG_LISTlike this, using your pplx-api token (as per autogen installation instructions)
[ { "model": "llama-2-70b-chat", "api_key": "YOUR_API_TOKEN_GOES_HERE", "api_base": "https://api.perplexity.ai", "api_type": "open_ai" } ]```
2. edit `python3.10/site-packages/autogen/agentchat/conversable_agent.py` with workaround helper function (search your whole hard drive for this file if necessary)
```python
# ADD THIS FUNCTION
def ensure_alternating_roles(messages):
fixed_messages = []
# Start with an expected role of 'user' following any initial 'system' message(s)
expected_role = 'user'
for message in messages:
current_role = message['role']
if current_role == 'system' and not fixed_messages:
# Keep initial 'system' message(s)
fixed_messages.append(message)
elif current_role in ['user', 'assistant']:
# If roles don't alternate, insert an empty message with the expected role
while current_role != expected_role:
empty_message = {'role': expected_role, 'content': 'continue'}
fixed_messages.append(empty_message)
# Toggle expected_role for next iteration
expected_role = 'assistant' if expected_role == 'user' else 'user'
# Add the original message and toggle the expected role for the next iteration
fixed_messages.append(message)
expected_role = 'assistant' if expected_role == 'user' else 'user'
return fixed_messages
...
messages = ensure_alternating_roles(messages) # <---- ADD THIS LINE
#print(f"DEBUG messages: {messages}") # <-- DEBUG WITH THIS LINE
# TODO: #1143 handle token limit exceeded error
response = oai.ChatCompletion.create(
context=messages[-1].pop("context", None), messages=self._oai_system_message + messages, **llm_config
)
- before executing, update the autogen example notebooks to include
llama-2-70b-chat
cd autogen/notebook ; export OAI_CONFIG_LIST=$(cat OAI_CONFIG_LIST) ; echo $OAI_CONFIG_LIST | sed 's/"pplx-[^"]*"/"REDACTED"/' ; unset OPENAI_API_KEY ; du -s -k *.ipynb | sort -n | awk '{print $2}' | while read x ; do echo transforming and executing $x ; cat $x | sed 's/\\"gpt-4\\"/\\"gpt-4\\", \\"llama-2-70b-chat\\"/g' | tee tmp/pplx-$x ; ipython tmp/pplx-$x ; sleep 10 ; echo ; echo ; echo ; done```
Note: script executes all the example notebooks from smallest to largest, and unsets `OPENAI_API_KEY`
I recommend configuring a failover for when you hit an error i.e.rate limit, which sometimes appears like the model is not available. I use text-generation-webui but OpenAI API should work too.
where can I find info on activity tracking with Perplexity?
Hey guys, here is a great site I've found to help keep up with the GenAI news (great curation and lots of quality sources) : https://genhub.notion.site/The-GenHub-ba64439290514156ab45af66a8d8c342?pvs=4
Happy to know your go-to sources too !
This is great, I am going to try it out now. Have you submitted/found a PR to AutoGen with the ensure_alternating_roles fix with details of the reason for it? If not could you explain briefly why this workaround was needed and if it was something specific to using Perplexity?
perplexity api seems to not completely implement the openai api spec. not only this alternating roles thing, but i also need another workaround because it does not accept single string inside array for completion
understandable given it is in beta
its so fast and adequately good. i'm surprised more ppl arent following up with me on this amazing deal
i sent you invite to my server where we discuss this and more
Great thanks for explaining so quickly @violet ore . What I am hoping to do while I have a bit of time this morning is to try and hook this AutoGen UI up called AgentCloud to Perplexity, I wonder if you'd like to take a look also
https://github.com/rnadigital/agentcloud
they expose the model configs here:
https://github.com/rnadigital/agentcloud/blob/master/agent-backend/src/config/OAI_CONFIG_LIST.json
If you can share any other workarounds that would be great, even better if you manage to get agentcloud working with Perplexity first
activity tracking could mean different things as individual indentifiers would be removed from log files before being sold to data aggregators, but that's like removing a piece from a puzzle and then saying what does the missing piece look like, and where can it be found. The last obtainable. I'll admit I'm not up to date on this, the last time I did any digging was when the cross cookie analytics deluge of ads starting hitting a few years back, eg. I visit an auto site and now I start seeing ads from other auto parts companies. What I've noticed in my personal life, in ways of cause and effect, has shown me that my wife can be shown ads because I showed an interest in something or because we use the same ip address, so she is now profiled with my characteristics. Imo, we are headed down a dangerous road when we start to consider some things we are seeing, like social score, tags on life data sites, such as, this person is of this faith, or voted this way, or contributes to these causes. What I would hate to see is the next gen of technology, that being AI driven, collating our research patterns and interests into what is already a bad idea for society. Imo again, if logs are stored in a data collectors cloud, it will be used, one way or another, without explicit permissions given but inferred by the SLA.
Also, thanks for showing an interest in my post, I think many would just rather not think about it, it just leads to inconvenience.
We need to realize when using this great project that they are in business to survive and make money, so if we like what their doing we need to subscribe to Pro services, etc, so that the project does not become more and more dependent on other revenue sources, I don't believe anyone will do anything with intent here, it's just an issue of data leakage and downstream aggregators once they get a hold of the meta data and are able to collate it to other resources. I did see some links referencing amazon, so there may be some agreement there when responses are appropriately referencing products and without bias, to earn some affiliate revenue by sending them traffic, but again, it is not anonymous in the end, because once someone logs into their Amazon account they are forever profiled as being a user of this project, that alone doesn't mean anything, but again, it's all about the downstream and accumulation of data and analytics to build indepth profiles of individuals.
Hello everyone (bots included) ! I discovered http://notion.so/ It is used to store information with AI. After you find good reliable information with Perplexity, you could save it there to access it later.
I would be very curious to find a way to automate the "storage" of informations in Notion with something like Perplexity... would be VERY useful ! ❤️
It's on my to-do-list to find/make something to "automate storage" ... 🙂 If you have ressources or ideas, I would be glad to hear 🙂
Hey @timber vault,
the #😎│cool-projects channel is intended for presenting projects.
I'm new with these technologies and I'm not a developer, but I see two possibilities : from Perplexity we create a Notion page with the Answer, and/or from Notion we ask Perplexity and get the Answer there.
That's very valid options!
Personally, i'm gathering the needed pieces of the puzzle to build a custom database/datastorage and make my own "sorting/tagging" mechanics 🙂
For your idea, how would you contact perplextie from the INSIDE of notion environment? And for perplextie to contact Notion, we would need to create a dataset and train perplexitie to "speak easily" with notion?...
I'll DM you
i mangled some computer files and was able to connect Flowise AI no-code solution to Perplexity API!!
I dont know what is your mean.
Hey @covert hornet! This channel is for sharing PPLX results. You can post this in the #😎│cool-projects channel
Ladies and gents, My writing process has begun. I will be starting writing about an American man named Allen Chang who decides to become a Star-Studded Samurai. Basically, Japan's samurai culture meets American patriotism. https://www.perplexity.ai/search/Help-me-write-fP3iQnEtR1mxnW2XMzI8gw?s=c
Here's a possible story outline for "Star-Studded Samurai":
Star-Studded Samurai
Allen Chang is a young American man who has always been fascinated by samurai culture. He has studied martial arts since he was a child and has become an expert swordsman. One day, he decides to travel to Japan to learn more about the samurai way of life.
