well, to be fair, some RAGs can be pretty good. it all depends on how "the most relevant information" is implemented. I think some implementations of knowledge graphs for source code worked quite well and inference cost a lot less. but it was not cheap nor fast to preprocess

there's nothing inherently wrong with using a RAG system (indeed, it is superior for various use cases) - it's just that it's not the same as directly inserting it into the context window

like for an entire repo, RAG would make sense - if you just wanted to be directed to the relevant files etc

but for working on a specific code file, generally the model being able to see that code in full works better

just for example (and imo/fwiw)

even the simpler RAGs have few knobs to turn which may drastically improve quality (chunk size, number of chunks). or allowing RAG to be used multiple times during the agentic search. not sure how exactly pplx handles it, but a lot of times it looks like even simple most naive RAG should work (like mentioning a unique identifier) ... and for some reason it doesn't. maybe sometimes "using RAG" fails (stuff around RAG itself) or something like that?

If you are asking about which AI model to use for software engineering, I would personally say to test it yourself, GPT-4 works best for me but some say GPT-4o or other models works better for them.

Try between Sonnet 3.5, Opus, GPT-4o, and maybe Sonar Huge (since it's based on llama 3.1 405b). Make sure to use Pro Search since this is where the model will actually run/use python. If you already have any development specific frameworks/prompts, you can load those into Collections to inject custom prompts. (this doesn't require Pro)

it depends, is it a really simple (short) website? then maybe. I think prompt limit is around 8k characters, once it starts turning input into files, it starts using RAG and results from that may vary a lot. for html+js in one project I think it roughly corresponded to 300LoC, but it is a long time, I might be wrong. also there is an output limit, though I believe that's in tokens and was considerably longer then direct input limit.
for very short html stuff, it is quite good. for small web apps, simple utilities, I would say it is even practical https://monnef.gitlab.io/by-ai (majority of those mini projects wrote sonnet 3.5 on pplx; not all there I would consider practical).
tried to get a wordpress theme, but it probably won't be that easy 😅 https://www.perplexity.ai/search/see-uploaded-files-then-write-ZpLJtgqzRa6oO2byfwnY1Q it seems to know wordpress. I can't easily try it, but I don't think it would work as is

A bit of Grok 2 testing. In Polish, it demonstrates poorer reasoning (at least based on this simple test) compared to English. Claude 3.5 had no problem with this task (Perplexity in writing focus). Grok 2 in polish said the stones are still inside the jar. Not enough training data?

it was just the photo style. maybe too much photography (style, in my and sonnet's prompt) pushed it away from a cow and stained glass?

Perplexity search (especially with Pro) is, in most cases, (objectively) better than other platforms. Beyond that, everything else is just sugar-coated and far inferior to, let's say, ChatGPT, where custom GPTs, RAG, and overall chat UX are light-years ahead of Perplexity

I don't have much experience with search specifically, mostly because when using ChatGPT it rarely cited it's sources/hallucinated a lot. But, with Perplexity I find it hallucinating a lot less and citing sources is an obvious plus

So that alone is already a huge improvement. Is it worth $20 a month for that alone? Probably not. I still prefer to use ChatGPT with files as I find ChatGPT actually remembers what we're talking about without me explicitly reminding it

Also, the Perplexity chrome extension has a feature to search across the domain you're currently on which is super nice to find information specifically on that domain/website without having to find it yourself

Got the free LinkedIn Perplexity Pro offer. Sett everything up and when it works, it works well. The problem the th first 1 to 5 attempts Perplexity simply eats the prompt. That is I enter the prompt, hit return and Perplixty clears the screen, but delivers only a new prompt input window.

I mean at a glance this kinda seems like something it's not meant to do. Like, I get what you're trying to do in those threads, including trouble shooting, but this is not sentient AI. It's just an LLM- trained on a dataset. It most likely has limited training on such requests and just assumes/hallucinates.

I just skimmed your threads, but I did see where you told it to not present assumptions as fact and I 100% agree, but sadly that is just a limitation of AI (LLMs). Generally stuff like this should be reviewed by a human, especially if it's an official form of sorts. Shouldn't have AI do tasks like this.

It might be more possible to have an AI do this if it's broken down into steps, but at that point it's usefulness probably dwindles. Too much effort for little gain vs just looking it up yourself.

I do think the grammar corrections are ridiculous though. A space after the : makes absolutely no sense and it should be able to do that. I've never run into such a situation though, so maybe this was just some one off scenario

default has unlimited uses. the other models substract 1 use of the 450 (total) uses when using it no matter if pro is enabled or not. when you're using the default model + pro mode then it will also use one of the 450 uses.

the only exception is Claude Opus that has 50 uses each day

I tried switching between various models, but the answers I received were very similar. I feel that even though I selected different AI models, they all seem to be calling the same model. Is this my illusion, or is it a bug from a recent update?

For example, when I ask the AI whether it is GPT or Claude, it always responds that it is not either of those, but rather a model trained by Perplexity, regardless of which model I use to ask this question. In the past, even if there was pre-filled role information for Perplexity, the answer would specify whether it was GPT or Claude.

Sweet! I think sonnet used to be 350 (regardless of Pro or not) at some point. But it does appear to be 450 today

300 (pre gpt4o) -> +opus 300 -> opus 50 -> 600 (around time when enterprise released) -> stayed 600 for a long time -> 550 recently -> 500 -> 450 (and still opus 50)

id bet that when they added enterprise pro, which was meant to be 600 while normal 300 (since well you are paying double)

they made everyone 600...then probably after a week realised it worked just about the same profits wise, and was better marketing

then they just stuck with everyone 600 until about 1-2 months ago when they seriously thought about profitability (ads this that)

I thought LLM chatbots were supposed to be able to perform relatively straight forward time series analyses. Does anyone have any recommendations about answering this question? Sure I could pull the data myself and figure out the answer, but I'm interested in saving time

Web/Focus seems to provide better results using this prompt "What is the longest sequence of 24-hour periods in which the closing price of Solana was lower than the price 24 hours prior? Use all available historical data (complete time series price data since inception) as your sample" but I do not trust the answers provided
