I came here from seeing the Lex Fridman podcast the other day. Nice segment. Liking the product so far as a Pro Search user. It has come in handy 10-15 times a day and saved me a lot of time. I spend less time engineering a prompt for ChatGPT-4o to do exacly what I want by Perplexity intermediating the need to be so specific.

I'm a geologist and Science teacher at high school. I had the chance to obtain a free one year Perplexity Pro subscription after buying a Rabbit r1. Since then, I'm using Perplexity more and more for all my activities, from searching about specific things and news, to drilling down scientific and technical documents for my work, to exploring topics more deeply. After 3-4 months I've shifted all these activities almost only on Perplexity, that has become my daily digital companion, both on Android as well on web. I don't think I can do without it anymore 🙂

I'm using AI extensively to accelerate, standardize and facilitate the creation of professional learning and capacity building modules with an advanced and detailed structure, set of components and approaches. I simultaneously use ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity (Claude 3.5) to compare and complement the answers I get to the same prompts. The use of AI saves me time on mechanical and generic stuff like creating summaries, introductions (with my own personal selection of twists, styles and approaches), tests, examples and scenarios. Using all three at the same time, adds a bit of time to process, but it helps to make sure the basic material generated is more diverse and complete. Once I combine the responses from all three, I proceed to validate, humanize and customize the results. I alternate between simple prompts to allow flexibility, diversity and openness for things I have not considered and carefully fine tuned prompts with specific instructions on structure, style and format.
I also use it extensively to create custom middle school study content and tests for my son. We create songs with suno, custom stories and adventures with his friends name and in the realm of his favorite books and series (Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Avengers, etc) and quick tests to validate how good our understanding of a subject is.

I like how it currently takes in vast amounts of data from searches and summarizes it to give me the answer for which I was looking. But, at times this is shallow.
Sometimes I will ask it to find insights in data (such as sales of certain devices). However, it only does a search to aggregate its data instead of analyzing data from a source. While I understand what I'm asking for might be a little odd or uncommon, it is my hope for the future of AI. I want AI to go beyond scratching the surface of several searches and actually try to find source data and give analysis.

Every question about a democrat is spun in a nice way while any question about a republican is negative. I constantly get responses from Perplexity like this:

Perplexity, no doubt. If I need chatgpt or Claude capabilities, perplexity actually provides them with pro.
The only downside to perplexity vs chatgpt is that images are not allowed for commercial use. But I don't use AI images commercially anyways.

I'm a philosopher, technologist, and academic at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia -- and have run quite a few workshops on 3 continents around how to think about and use generative AI. I'm also writing policy for my university's standards around LLMs. (Very happy to share a recorded video of my 12th workshop, or slides from any of them. I can also share papers related to policy.) I find perplexity useful because I can turn off most of its features (sorry) and evaluate multiple different models and system prompts. Right now, it is a quite effective interface and wrapper for multiple LLMs.

No but seriously I have been trying out AI tools since November 30 2022, so As soon as they anounced a competitor for CGPT I had to try it of course. Honestly havent used it much up until a week ago when I saw all the new capabilities and models it has.
