Hi all. Just wanted to say hello. Just got the game and me and 5 friends are going to play the game during a LAN weekend (wednesday to sunday next week) like the olden times.
Renting a summerhouse, 6 computers, no wives, no kids. Just us guys, playing, eating, drinking from dusk til dawn.
We do this twice a year and have been doing this for years now. Different game everytime (from satisfactory to RV There Yet to CIV)
We are going in blind (except 1 guy has played it for few hours)
We are not allowed to prepare by playing the game before the trip which makes the suspence for the first hours even better.

I wanna say that it looks like Steam has changed some of their networking under the hood, which means that (most? all?) local servers now route traffic through remote nodes, which means that a "local" ping of under 10ms is currently more like 40-50ms

and also if anyone has an RTX 50** series, I would advise to roll back to late January drivers, as the latest version introduced a bug that prevents ground shaders from appearing, so like, there's no grass on the ground for some reason

the affected drivers seem to be 595.71 and 595.79. Rolling back to 591.86 is what we're currently advising players to do until either Nvidia fix the issue with a new set of drivers, or we roll out the next update (neither of which are likely to happen before you guys have your boys' getaway!)

on that good note, I hope you all have fun. Fond memories of doing that kind of stuff 20+ years ago, but now my friends are scattered all across Europe so it's a little trickier to set this kind of thing up.

All games should implement Twitch Drops as an in-game quest, because there are a thousand reasons why it’s not always possible to follow Twitch. In my opinion, you’ve done a great job.

Yeah, we were surprised when we did our very first twitch drops how many people were very anti-twitch drops, and quite upset about it. I previously worked on a live service game and when we did twitch drops people generally universally loved them, but the reaction was very different for the Enshrouded community. That's why we decided to make them available as in-game quests as well. I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that the Enshrouded community skews quite a bit older than the average game, people who don't have as much tolerance for these kinds of modern marketing methods, and a lot of people also bought the game specifically because we have a more old-school way of monetizing (just box price), so those people were disappointed when we added Twitch drops. It's interesting!

Ultimately Twitch Drops are really just a way for us to try to boost our viral reach on twitch, so we don't want to upset our players in the process, hence the solution we went with to make them available in-game.

Personally, I get that Twitch and streamers are just advertising, but in my opinion, the less I open Twitch, the better off I am.

Yeah, I'm not sure how old you are, but again, that attitude reflects the older playerbase we have. Older generations are not nearly as into twitch/streamers as young adults and teens are.

A lot of us in the publishing/marketing department have experience with live service games (because those are usually the kind of games that hire us) and we were a little blindsided by the negativity of our first twitch drops campaign. On most games that do them, you see very little negativity.

I'm sure it's going to be on Nvidia to do the fixing. I don't want to rollback drivers because Crimson Desert releases today, and a lot of conflicts happened for me. Especially when using Unreal Engine. Again sorry if it's a redundant question.

The game hasn't changed, yes it is an Nvidia driver issue and the only current solution is a roll back. They are aware of it and whilst they try, it appears to mostly be down to nvidia to fix it.

We are looking into it, but like Cod said, it's mostly an issue with the driver itself. From what I've heard, most games seem to handle the older driver without much issue, but I'm not sure about Crimson Desert specifically

I mean, in my mind drop campaigns make sense for already-online games and for dev periods where lots of big news/changes/updates are releasing. Drop campaigns for offline games immediately stink of marketing tactics (Free candy for anyone who engages with this thing!) because they're at odds with the overall game experience, and drop campaigns that serve as the only way to get certain items immediately stink of predatory marketing tactics (Engage with our content or else you won't have the cool thing!).

I tend to watch Twitch in the background while gaming most of the time. But, I also understand other players points. I think having the option for the drops in game is a very smart move. I didn't even know you guys had options for twitch drops when i first got the game. had to have a friend tell me.

I mean, yeah, it's for marketing. That's not really a secret tbh. Devs aren't really doing it for malicious reasons, though (at least, most devs aren't). In most cases it's a mutually beneficial thing where player gets free thing, devs get good marketing for cheap.

This might sound weird, but I think part of why it feels bad in Enshrouded is because we don't have microtransactions, ironically. In most games, Twitch drops give you cosmetics or items that normally you'd need to spend real money on MTX to earn, for free. So most players see them as a really good deal. But in Enshrouded, we don't have anything like that, so it feels like we're withholding something from you, psychologically speaking.

I guess if it means anything to make them feel less gross to you, most of the things we've done twitch drops for are things we probably wouldn't have made (at least, not as quickly), if twitch drops weren't a thing. We set aside time for our artists to make them specifically because they bring a lot of value to us. If they were just something we stuck in the game, they wouldn't be as worth the dev time, necessarily.

Personally for cosmetic stuff, i really couldn't care much, as in most cases it's not like you even have to sit there and watch the stream, you can literally have it on a different tab, muted and in the background and still get the drops, even if you don't subscribe to a channel or anything. All in all, it's marketing, it brings attention to a game and to twitch.

That being said, the drops that require you to gift subs are a questionable behaviour and whilst they do support the streamer in a small way, it does block even more from getting drops in the first place.

I really hope we get more dungeon apparatuses in the game. One of the biggest reasons i have t made a dungeon in any of my builds is lack of props for a proper dungeon.

Mage is the only class with access to heals for others and several area attacks. Extremely squishy early on if you don't hybridize with gear and skills from other trees, but I've managed with only mage gear and blue skills. Now I'm level 36 on my mage alt and shredding bad guys.

It's a high skill floor to max out but it's very powerful. I played 80% daggers 20% bow on my first character and had an awesome time.

• warrior - good dps for melee at low skill floor, high dps for melee at higher skill floor, weakest ranged even with secondary spec

The less rays that reach a certain point the more flickery and noisy it gets

You can see the delay in lighting even with pathtraced games like RE9, if you move the flashlight or turn off a light it takes a couple frame to update the lighting.

Same with enshrouded, try it in a dark room with a torch
