Im just deleting my altar and I will try building tomorrow and just leave the sand how it is. I just wanted a gentler slope to build on. I didn't have this issue when shaping hils with regular soil, but teh sand doesn't want to obey. I have never played valhiem.

Also I wish the rake could be rotated down and not just up. I more often want to slope down and away from a point.

Exploration is king. There is no wrong way to play the game - there is literally nothing that you can loose, that cannot be replaced.

Take your time. Do quests for all the NPCs as you get them, they are all intertwined. Turn off dropping loot on death if you are easily frustrated.

My tactic is to start to main screen (faster shader compilation there compared to in game) and make dinner while it completes... If I let it finish before shutting off the game it won't need to do it again before an update changes something

Hello I'm coming here to ask a question about hosting a server, I'm selfhosting my server; everything is up, the port are forwarded correctly but yet I don't see my server online and I cannot join it through IP:PORT.
When I do through steam server it says that the "ID of the application is invalid"
I can join it through the local IP and only then my friend can join the server through me

I'm curious what your specs are because if you're taking this long to compile shaders either your CPU is under the minimum requirements or just doesn't have a lot of threads.

have devs made any comments regarding how tedious plant farming is? like intentions to add a way to plant several at a time or even just a snapping effect for placing straight lines? i like the game but there are oodles of plants and it could really use some streamlining. my mouse and my finger are sad.

If you plant without using the snapping grid then yes, the entire straight line thing is down to your own steady hand. If you're using the grid though, you get a 'perfectly' straight line.

If you're ranged, find a high place to stay out of their way, if you're melee just need to get used to the timing. With a fast melee weapon you can get two attacks in before blocking, but it's close, with a 2H 1 attack per their attack and inbetween your attacks you're either blocking or parrying them.

I’d suggest watching some building tips on YouTube. YouTubers Buildingue, Chiselchip and Kontrek are all very good with showcasing their builds and techniques

Step 1. make a hammer and learn how to use it, you can hold Alt to change the pre-set walls you're working with, and you can use a single block to fine-tune what you're making

Step 2. your first building is probably gonna look bad, but its part of learning :P mine looked pretty bad at the start
Step 3. as you play you'll get better materials that look nicer, so you'll likely want to replace the blocks in your old buildings

Make a big box. Put a few holes in it. Maybe a stair or two. Or find a mountain make a hole put a round door. Tips from a very uncreative buldier...I need people to join my dedicated server to build lol.

any know if there is a problem with the comfort level of the new castle lighting? i took down my old lighting at a small base and put in the new castle lighting and the comfort level hasnt changed. the new lighting has +2 higher than what i used to have. did it a couple hours ago and have jumped alters, in and out of game, and level stays the same as old lighting pieces.

This won't ever happen. It causes save files to balloon in size because it has to keep track of changed terrain or placed items. Slows down the world due to those "chunks" being loaded. You'd eventually corrupt your save. They capped your flame altar size and amount for a reason.

There are no steam workshop mod functionality.

Start by putting everything for a particular NPC in the same place.

.. You can use block "appropriate" to the NPC. Stone for blacksmith, wood for woodcutter.. etc.

No not at all why would you even waste alters on doing that? An alter area is more than enough to build a little villiage or community. As for myself I have all my crafters mostly centralize in and near a main crafting hall where all crafting stations and storage chests are also located. Other NPC's are scattered here and there around the base.

I don't think there are prefab bridges, but I bet with a mix of carefully (non-snap) placed and rotated bamboo tables and guard rails you could pull off something cool.
