the save system is some technical debt inherited from the Steam save system, I think we'll need to address it for the consoles version anyway, because they won't be able to use Steam's system of course, but the operating word of that sentence is "I think"

the flame altars limitation is much more closely tied to hardware limitations and optimization, because having ten fully upgraded altars stacked in one spot can already create so many problems

My go to was always the x80ti until my 4090. I've been happy with it. I feel I have decent expectations, but I'm also gaming at 4k and I think that balances those FPS expectations. There's not going to be a linear scale with FPS as you allude to.

I'll say that when there's an option to increase the draw distance to a more reasonable amount. IMO it's way too short as a default.

It's not that I'm alluding that there will be it's that most of the complaints about x-game's performance that come from x90 owners are that THEY expect it to run like a NASA Supercomputer and have out of this world performance. When in reality, the x90 cards are rarely more than single digit % superior to the x80 GPU's.

It's a distance thing, not noticeable normally, but when you have 8 alters connected you can be on one end of the base and trees on the other end vanish

I've repurposed Thornhold with a single level-4 altar (pretty much encompasses it). That place comes with a lot of objects. And I've certainly added a good number. But I'd say I'm far from crazy. (Maybe crops affect it.) At any rate, I cannot even get a full render from across the base. I have a house on the north side with someone living at the top. When they walk out on the little lookout (existing prop) they look like they're walking in thin air.

Yeah the render distance scales down to avoid everything breaking when there's an extreme amount of complexity, like when we load one of Kontrecks mega builds the render distance is clearly much shorter than a modest little hut someone built by themselves

In my case, from the example I'm not seeing crops except a small patch of flax. However, if it's based on existence and not being in scene then definitely. (If you're familiar with Thornhold I have all the crops tucked down one arm of it.)

This is a custom build engine for this game, so most of the 'standard' tools game devs use to assist with things they wont be able to use. That being said, i'm sure they're aware of such things and will use them if it's applicable.

Any kind of modding/dev kit is a little complex for us because this game is built in a fully custom engine, so those tools would also have to be completely built from scratch. We're not oppossed to the idea of eventually adding them, but we also don't know when/if they might happen because it would be quite a big project to undertake.

It'll move everything it needs to automatically. Where the save files are located depends on if you're using cloud saves or not. The save files don't need to be on the same drive as the game files.
