Enshrouded Server & Character Wipes

As of current writing (6 Febuary 2024) we do not have any plans to force wipes at any time. However, with the Enshrouded being in early access and the fact that a LOT of things will change between now and full release, we cannot guarantee that there may or may not be a major update
that requires old saves to break.

Also being that so much is changing, there is always a chance that an update may break old saves, so we recommend backing up saves regularly that you care about. As this would be something that could be the end of the world for players.

We will do our best to avoid this, and it's not something we're planning intentionally we cannot guarantee this will "never happen" either since there are a lot of unknown variables in the future.

Honestly I love the fact that it's not procedurally generated, games with those type of worlds feel so bland and sterile, vs Enshrouded where you can explore and constantly come across hidden stuff

Which yeah, would be really awesome. But proc gen isn't really capable of that. A random embervale would look very, very different than the one we've made.

That said we have thought about ways we might be able to do stuff like this in the distant future, like random dungeons for example. There's still some cool things we could eventually do.

for me personally valheim is best example.. i love that game.. andcome back to it every few months.. and due to random worlds.. its always fresh for me.. I knoiw what i can find where .. but there is still that exploration aspect because world is shaped differently..

True, they could do that as a separate world you could load into, just so far with any game like that I find that while you can infinity explore, you're basically infinity exploring not much of anything, just slight variations of the same old thing and exploring gets boring

Planet Crafter done something like this, have portals to 'other parts of the planets' All of which were procedurally generated.

The gem sockets are random, you will get more sockets depending on the quality of the weapon. Seems like gems can be found from drops and from chests.

Enshrouded's landscape is hand crafted, POIs are placed and decorated. If you just randomly generate terrain its no longer Enshrouded its proc gen crap.

well hand crafted map is better obviously but replayability is almost impossible for most people i know enshoruded and minecraft are different games and its stupid to compare but similar system like minecraft could work for most survival and builder player bases

there is slightly and very important difference in building with minecraft and enshrouded im hardcore builder in minecraft and usually 1 big building i switch to new map start all over again most builders does this thats why im wishing for random generated maps

I think the point is you cant compare the work that it took for proc gen in minecraft to the amount of work it would take to make it even remotely feasible in enshrouded it would be an astronomical undertaking that would underwrite everything they have already done
