Eh, ish. They're similar in that they're both open world games with character building, and in the way the multiplayer works, but outside of that they're both very different feeling experiences. Enshrouded uses a hand-crafted map while Valheim's is generated, Enshrouded has a voxel "floating" building system while Valheim uses a structural Unity based engine, Enshrouded has more of an RPG style character building system where Valheim has a more "use it to learn it" kind of style, etc

Exploration-wise, stamina prevents you from moving quickly even when not in combat, and the lack of a climbing mechanic adds to the frustration by severely limiting verticality. It's odd because you can see the obvious influence games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have over Enshrouded, but yet they chose not to include climbing—arguably those game's most important mechanic and the main reason for stamina to be a part of them—making the traversal feel less thoughtful and way more linear. Every time we needed to reach higher ground, we ended up slowly circling around some path. [from a recent steam review]

Leveling up your flame level (not area) will turn some areas of deadly shroud into normal shroud.

No, it levels up for the whole map, basically empowering the flameborn to continue to explore further and further reaches

It also gives you bonus stats and some other benefits, it's kind of your major progression mechanism throughout the playthrough.

As of current writing (6 Febuary 2024) we do not have any plans to force wipes at any time. However, with the Enshrouded being in early access and the fact that a LOT of things will change between now and full release, we cannot guarantee that there may or may not be a major update
that requires old saves to break.

Also being that so much is changing, there is always a chance that an update may break old saves, so we recommend backing up saves regularly that you care about. As this would be something that could be the end of the world for players.

We will do our best to avoid this, and it's not something we're planning intentionally we cannot guarantee this will "never happen" either since there are a lot of unknown variables in the future.

I was concerned with that at first as well. I decided that as in other games that have been wiped, if I enjoy the base game, it will not matter. oh absolutely, I just tend to put a game down until it's all done before I pick it back up long down the road, and wanted to get an understanding of if I should spend a bunch of time building my ideal town or just wait. did that with core keeper: had a ton of fun with it, stopped playing, picked it back up when it was done. nothing new for me. I'm not one of those people that buys an early access game and then rages when I knowingly contributed money to an unfinished product that will be finished when it's done. I can't stand that attitude.

oh for sure, that's exactly what I was thinking. it's the one thing I noticed missing and immediately said to myself "there's probably an engine reason for that but we'll see"

i'm hardly any kind of expert on development but I 'get' certain concepts inherently just from playing enough games. look at how long it took No Man's Sky to get around to adjusting how their water in the game works, and water wasn't even in the game from the start.

i don't know if it was their intent but I like the way the shrouded areas don't just resemble heavily moldy/fungal zones, but also things like deep undersea vents and the like. it feels a bit like walking on the ocean floor where you're not meant to be

I played an RPG 20 years ago called Everquest. They had houses you could take over and decorate. If you were creative you could even build an aquarium in the house. I would like to see them drill down to that detail. As it is things like a smoking fireplace indoors is disconcerting. I use small blocks to buiod a chimney to at least make it look like the smoke has a place to go.

buYes, we really need text chat. I don't know if the staff is forgetful or for some other reason. The server does not have any communication. Even if there is no text chat bar, at least add action expressions to achieve a semi-communication state, not a single "C" to express the current emotion. What a pity. However, the lack of a text chat bar has caused most players not to buy this game.

1. Wait for Early Access to end and get the game then. No rush, no hurry, no complaining because things are not their way.

3. For the people that, indeed, do play Multiplayer, they got Discord or other tools at hand to have voice/chat. May not be as easy for the time being but hey, better than nothing.

Quick question got an update today for enshrouded now I have no sound and game froze to the point I had to do a hard reboot of my pc anyone else having these issues if so did you manage to fix them

If you had an 'update' for enshrouded it would have been steam shader caching, which doesn't actually change anything with the game, so the issue would have been something either with your comp or potentially existing before today and you may have just not experienced it.

That game was fun but I played back when they had the invasions over tuned and it was just constant for me so i quit

i haven't had any issues thus far on that front but the game took me 20 hours to get to a part i consider "good"

i.e. compelling and interesting, atmospherically pleasing

vs Enshrouded, which was good from the beginning of my experience up until now

like I wanted to keep going. I still want to keep going and unlocking things. but idk when the game is going to be done so I have to temper my enthusiasm vs the limitations and potential for things to be changed significantly, so that I don't burn myself out on it

At end game in DQB2 your towns really feel alive with how the NPCs works and go to meals and hang out at the pub and go to bed in their rooms

It can be difficult to do organically but it basically amounts to having gear and food that's above the level of the area you want to be above

Well, you have to think differently about levels. Levels are just skill points, not direct character strength. All your strength comes from skill points, gear, and food

@gloomy tiger Outleveling the area you want to play in, is probably easiest done by skipping some deadly shroud places in creative ways. You can enter a zone you're not supposed to enter yet quite easily by traversing the mountains around the deadly shroud. Once in the new area, everything you pick off the ground will probably be used for food that outscales the zone you are actually in

Early level, food makes the biggest difference by far. Argueably it still does once you're at the end-game. Keep in mind you can have 3 foods active. Especially in the beginning the majority of your stats will come from food

I saw a video of 10 months ago that mentioned a "hardcore world" option, for lack of better wording.. a world where collected resources wouldn't respawn. Havent found anything like it in the game, so might have just been a random thought of the video. Maybe someone else has heard of it too 😊

Ah. Yeah, afaik there's no real way to turn off the way the game regenerates, but when you explore an area you could place a custom marker on the map that will basically let you know "been there, done that"
