Step three is to initiate that cut downwards across their blade and simultaneously step away from the threat
This is complex and difficult to do in half sword all the time, so the maybe better is to slice off. That would be to push a cut upwards on his blade in the bind, stepping back to allow it to slide off, and then make a cut to his opening.
Best would be to cut at his head because after slicing off he will mostly come from above, and this will parry that
