Right now, for Long Swords, it is too unstable. Too much phasing through your own body, making very wacky sword twirling motions.

To reduce settings further in an attempt to conserve more resources:

1. Exit Half Sword then download the attached engine.ini.txt file and rename it to engine.ini

2. Press Windows key + R to bring up a Run box, in the Run box put %LOCALAPPDATA%/HalfSwordUE5/Saved/Config/Windows/ and click OK or press enter.

I think something that will ultimately help, and one of the reasons the Baron Sword is so hated on, is a fairly beefy character, around 100+ kg. Which can take a while to get to, but getting strong enough to properly swing around heavy weapons will certainly help. It's not made clear though that it's possible to get that strong naturally

Right, it can definitely be used at lower strengths. But it takes practice and can be unwieldy. People aren't quite willing to put the practice in for some of these weapons it seems, they really just want to be able to swing around big pollaxes/polearms fast and hard. And that's fair, but it's not always that simple, even with those easier to use weapons.

What I hope is that they add a toggleable assist that takes their mouse and their hand's position and just make it where they can't move their mouse too far from their hand, with the max distance being based on the weapon's velocity and momentum. I think that would pretty much solve the problem

try using the one hander in your left hand

knives are still viable in the off hand. I've been practicing with a parrying dagger I made for the off hand and using it to stab with, got a few kills

using alt stance with one handers in the right hand is different. You can stab but you have to learn to move the mouse differently and such. It can throw you off if you go into it expecting it to work like the demo

also I'm not sure why, and idk if this will help others but I've noticed that when you first start the game up and play, for me anyway, it seems my FPS will be quite a bit lower than it normally should be. In the beginning here I just loaded up the game and loaded in, and I'm at around 30-40fps on Medium, which isn't really normal.

But after testing this a bit, every time I go into Settings and view the display settings and save (making no changes), my FPS immediately bumps up to 60/70+ which is what it typically is.

2. Go to %localappdata%\HalfSwordUE5\Saved\SaveGames and if the GameProgress.sav file is 0kb, it is corrupt, delete it. Settings.sav may also be 0kb, delete it as well or changes made to settings will not save.
3. If these files are not 0kb, browse up to %localappdata%\HalfSwordUE5\ and move the entire Saved folder elsewhere for safe keeping, so then the HalfSwordUE5 folder should be empty.
4. Start Half Sword and create a character, change some settings, restart the game and see if everything has saved.

If your progress has reset or you create a character and progress is not saving and/or crashing -

1. Exit Half Sword, in Steam right click Half Sword>Properties>General and turn off Steam Cloud
2. Go to %localappdata%\HalfSwordUE5\Saved\SaveGames and if the GameProgress.sav file is 0kb, it is corrupt, delete it. Settings.sav may also be 0kb, delete it as well or changes made to settings will not save.
3. If these files are not 0kb, browse up to %localappdata%\HalfSwordUE5\ and move the entire Saved folder elsewhere for safe keeping, so then the HalfSwordUE5 folder should be empty.
4. Start Half Sword and create a character, change some settings, restart the game and see if everything has saved.
