I looked at shields, and it didn't look like their blunt damage is purposefully set too high.
the rigidity is set to like 0.85.
I think rigidity is a multiplier to mass (when doing the damage calculations)

thats interesting to note, like you said earlier its just blunt impacts as a whole, shields just have a big wide point of contact thats typically being pressed to your face so maybe thats why they seem worse

I tried to find the point a basic mace can be tanked but rattle you just a little bit, with repeated strikes being required, and even at 1 million you still cant.

because a dude took a hit on his head irl, from a dude riding horseback with a mace and it did knock him on his ass, but he wasnt dead or almost dead.

i think a major flaw in the combat system is that the momentum threshold for blunt damage seems extremely low, in the sense like how an enemy can hold their pollaxe to my legs and get 3-7 small blunt impacts rather than the initial swing impact

thats why its an issue on mere contact a lot of the time, and utterly kills grappling or binding attempts cause the most minor of taps are still behaving like full whacks

I figured out why this is happening.
rigidity is blunt damage, but blunt damage is concussive damage, which armor doesnt have a protection stat for.
the values for most weapons are really small, only 1 or 2.
but the head seems to have a damage multiplier (or the effects are just really profound even if not much health is taken)
the wooden maul has the same blunt damage as the steel maul of a poleaxe.

alright do this - make sure steam cloud is turned off for half sword and half sword demo both. Goto %localappdata%\HalfSwordUE5\ and delete the entire Saved folder. Then goto steamapps\common and delete both the Half Sword and Half Sword Demo folders. Test it again. If it crashes, open event viewer -
