I also find practicing kicks against a pitchfork works well, since it trains the location at which you have to go to get the kick, since there's always a weapon in front of you, teaches you to get around the weapon, timing and much more

One thing i like to do with a longsword is put it in half-sword then release it while swinging towards the enemy in a far away position, sometimes to the side.
It gives you more range that way and it's quick and reliable.

i win against it more often than i lose against it, but it's still too strong when there are like 12 different parts of it that can kill you instantly if they just happen to graze your character.

I mean, long spikey stick is just an OP weapon in general, not much you can do against it if you're on the spikey end.

I think this comes from the spikes actually having stabbing potential? Stabs are extremely lethal in the playtest, almost unreasonably so to the point where poking an AI in the lower arm will instantly send them down. Makes sense it'd nuke you in that case, since it only really shows up in tiers where you don't have a lot of armor.

my epic moments usually come from longsword strikes where it's that samurai trope of I slash the guy and he falls over 5 seconds later clutching at his neck

Yeah, it would be one thing if the spikes weren't so "sharp" and easy to penetrate through basically anything. I've gone into the highest tier with it (thanks to mods) and you can even take out fully armored knights in one hit most of the time. It does enough blunt damage to knock them unconscious and more often than not it goes through their armor and causes a fatal bleed.

yeah, it's a strong mix of really good damage types (stab and blunt) that counter a LOT of armor

you need to play very decisively to avoid getting hit

I usually play around tier 3 and idk if it's just me but the one-handed mace they have down there feels very unparryable. Might be a skill issue but 9 times out of 10 it will crush through and knock me half-out

The normal spears have a ton of instant-win potential (technically all the weapons in the game do) but its more balanced by the fact that it requires a lot of practice to get accurate thrusts in.

Idk if anyone else has noticed with the recent AI changes but it feels much harder to maintain space in higher tiers now (at least tier 6 I'd say), feels like the AI gets overexcited with the half-swording and tend to just sprint into you.

I don't know if any of you need this but here:
How to keep YOUR! willie alive for longer. (And torture him.)

• Refrain from swinging at the head, this is very important for the most obvious reason.
• Turn damage to npcs the entire way down along with player damage
• Only cut their non-essential limbs off like arms and legs, this is for torture so you can get the nice screams. (Legs are no fun, he can't stand for photos if you take them.)
• Cut their throat/slit it with a knife, this makes them gargle their blood (very nice noises) and doesn't kill them most of the time unless you accidently decap.
• Throw them around like a ragdoll, it's funny.
• Slicing them up around the chest area is a bad/good idea sometimes, can be very painful to willie but has the risk of splitting him, killing him.
• Attempting to smash their head in with your fists is a bad idea on no damage to npc, this is because they don't scream from it and just beg for mecry. (Not fun)
• Use a bigger sword or just a axe in the second tier, to my preference the large two-handed axe works best.
• Maybe try out some mods like a loadout editor to get a big sword against a willie, rendering him useless so you can get to torturing easier.
• Doing big wiggles with your blade when trying to take off limbs makes it easier, shaking your mouse left and right is optimal.

once they do their stubborn cling there is nothing you can do to kick them off while keeping them alive

generally though they "should" let go but willie is very stubborn with about 50% maybe 60% of grabs
