Your initial posturing is a key way to force the AI to strike a certain way, in my own experience. You keep your sword in the middle to the right, he is most likely going to hit you where you are open, so you can kinda predict or force a parry. Or, alternatively, keep your sword in a position (like the middle,) where you are most reactive. Orrr you can begin by striking first, souly for his weapon to either deflect it out, or to control it. (Which is easier with a pole arm.)
