is that a targe on the targe
they put the targe on the targe
targe en targe
many such cases
You may not recognize from the pic
But that maille is 500 years old
I love his harness! Is it Iberian or Italian style?
iberian.
iberian.
Yup. Maille, if kept in reasonable conditions, usually survives pretty well. It's not the only reenactor i know of using original maille...
Correct me if i’m wrong but is maile cleaned by shaking it in a barrel or just anything hollow? (I’m thinking of getting a hauberk)
Iberian?
thanks
This is a great bascinet right?

I've heard many good things about Roman Furajtár
omg the sabatons and the leg harness wtfff
who have link 0.3 demo half sword for spin kicks pls?
Shaking in a bag of sand and oil works for mine
river otters. quite common in galicia and portugal as well as southern spain. fitting given the iberian basis for the harness (then again river otters also live just about everywhere else in europe so, very much could be just a personal choice on the part of the lad).
afaik they were usually tumbled/rolled with sand in a barrel suspended off the ground
scrape and polish the links individually ofc
New Eol drawing

sorry for asking here, do you think I should move the gauntlet a bit to the left?
Rarely draw this type of gauntlet so i dunno am I drawing it correct or not lol
I assume the pointed bit is gonna be missing from the final drawing because it's on the side of the arm we can't see?
yeah
what software do you use? and hardware
been wanting to learn to draw but im struggling a lot
I genuinely love this armor so much 🥹
If I had a ridiculous amount of extra money, I'd get something exactly like that dude
Needs to be in the game already 😓
looks like there’s a fishtail on his cuirass. some may even call it a, fishtail plackart, perhaps.

ca. 1450 - 'Antonio Rido, castellano di Castel Sant'Angelo (+1450)', copy, Castel Sant'Angelo, Roma, Italy, from the original in the Chiesa di Santa Francesca Romana

The visored barbute has done irreparable damage to the perception of armor
blame for honor and basically every single "medieval" fantasy themed item of media from any point in modern history
doesnt the larpbute predates for honor
i dunno probably
irregardless it absolutely made it more popular
<@&1080390104562016306>
Scam much?
Jesus christ
What the fuck is that
Please delete this
the unvisored visored barbute
armstreet got competition
Looks like something from Nolan's armor choices
Was just at the Worcester Art Museum and their open storage got arms and armor is incredible. Only a small portion is from this time period, but what there was really just reinforced how accurate the devs have been to it
didnt think it could get any worse.
These are some shit references ngl
There were wearable visors, and the amount you could actually see through them was crazy, way more than in the game or that I was able to reproduce with a camera view
ong.
Check out these cool armets I found looking through Chantilly Library and Archives of the Château, Ms. 645... Its a little later than 1475
on my flemish shi.
have you watched the video from zac evan’s and augusto regarding the depictions of these ‘stechhelms’ in art outside of jousting scenes? seems like something that’d interest you.
Oh wait your talking about this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWsozZ0tMgY
In the past I have said that frogmouth great helms where not used in the 15th century except in jousting. In recent months I have become aware of one man's fight to change this assumption, so I asked Augusto to join me on Zoom to discuss why he thinks they where used in battle well into the 15th century.
This video is somewhat different to pre...
yes!

whys he look evil as shit
german with spectacles

I got this from facebook armourer page called Silesian Armoury
Love his heroic style spaulders
the spaulders are really great yeah
very elegant
This pair of spaulders don't have much articulation right?
doesnt seem so
ah, that's Svatej, of the czech burgundian group
Suit is mostly Petr Brožek with some later additions by Silesian Armoury (the heroic spaulders and elbows, the mitten gauntlet)
this him outside the armor
and this is how he uses it for battles
Speaking of Petr Brožek, that guy as armourer is genius. If you have the opportunity, find his book 'Platnéřství" (Armouring), as that's unique work on how to make the armour and science behind it. Only other like that I know of is Collins' 16th cent armour book
Also taught guys like Kašpar and Elthien, sadly he is not that active nowadays
Some older works
aw hell naw they put James Franco in fifteenth century burgundy
yo show who I need to see comparison
oh jesus lmao
it's Jacques Franc
Payment document from 1446 (Archive of the Crown of Aragon, Register 2733, f. 97v-98r):
«…item, per lo dit senyor rey [Alfons V] ha manat pagar a maestre Thomas de Missaglia, armer de Milà, per una armadura completa ab dauradura e obra fina que li ha feta per lo dit senyor rey, la qual armadura és ab celada e totes peces guarnides d’aur…»
Possible English translation: "...item, by what has been said, lord king [Alfonso V] has ordered payment to master Thomas de Missaglia, armourer of Milan, for a complete suit of armour with gilding and fine workmanship that he has made for the said lord king, which armour includes a helmet and all the pieces adorned with gold..."
Miniature of Charles the Bold in gold-
Charles the gold
Out of curiosity was there ever any gilded barding?
in the 16th century i think so
why gild horse when you can get a camaro
because horses have feelings too
beautiful chaffron.
its one of them freak swords
looks like peasant militia ngl

wheres the parental advisory sticker
The faceplate and the skull are forged from 4mm thick plates, while the back is made of 2 mm, all c45 carbon steel. Both the upper and lower lips have been folded over, so there the thickness is about 8mm.
1460-1470 English/French great bascinet hopefully done soon
1460-1470 central Italy.
im not a big fan of these helmets tbh. they look ugly
what did he ever do to you bro look at him
I agree, they're also tournament helmets and they're very restrictive. Not hating on 'em, I just don't like 'em
See posts, photos and more on Facebook.
Holy shit
they really used HS music
good malware needs to see this
I don't think they're ugly but they are one of my least fav
Only european helmet that i dislike more is the greathelm lol

See posts, photos and more on Facebook.
thanks for sending the source
I like the great helm if its used right
Its also easy to draw too
Idk i've just never really been a fan
Just not my style
Hounskulls are peak fashion though

hold on im on the austrian wiki to figure out who this bloke is.
yes!
the monastery on the flag is supposed to be the pauline one he founded i believe.
"Monument to András Paumkircher in the castle of Szalónak. 1450."
incase the message didnt forward right
seems he was a rather prevalent military leader that was in service to, at various points, frederich iii, king laidslaus of bohemia, and king matthias corvinus. held lands in western hungary that came under the jurisdiction of the hungarian crown when matthias was given the crown and he seems to have feuded with frederick iii in service to matthias late in his life.
the monastery looks like this nowadays as it went under 19th century baroqe remodeling but likely originally looked in the style seen on the banner.
Led an uprising of nobility against Frederick and lost his life for it
thank you bro for sharing ❤️ ❤️
Anyhow i wonder were these heraldic helmets real? If so were they used?
modernly stylized based on tournament helmets from the late 15th and 16thc
Closest I can think off is this one from a northdern french manuscript from 1480s
some more examples, the second one is from the early 16thc idk about the first
Wold case gelmet
Anyone have manuscripts that depict tournaments and jousting? Need it for something im making
Also something a bit earlier than the game around 1400-1430
100% historically accurate depiction of a late 15th century man at arms
A man hath fallen into the water in legoburg!
Prepare the rescue horses!
hey since im home now i dont need this now and i'll find a manuscript myself
well thats not accurate...he is holding the spear with 8 fingers thats not accurate stop spreading lies!!111!
Hey guys, I've been putting some work into the drive database. If you're in the MK1212 chat I put it there too. For anyone who doesn't know, it's a collection of images to give an introduction to arms and armour of various places & times. I'd be very grateful if anyone wanted to take a look and let me know their thoughts… warning: THIS IS NOT AN ACADEMIC SOURCE AND IS NOT INTENDED TO BE:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RPQNotONhJhJI9DTIq4VskwOvBVT_7-Q?usp=drive_link
Also just be sure to view it in 'grid' layout not 'list' layout
I know the modern sections could use some more work so consider that under construction 🚧

What is this
underrated graham reference of William Gascoigne III (imo)
Kinda where you post arms and armour from the period
1450-1460 Longsword, probably Italian (23.8 x 134 cm; Weight: 1750 g)
waow!!!!!!!
whats that little thing near the hilt called?
it looks really nice
parrying hooks (parierhaken)
peak pauldron design
caramels jack (with straps and buckles)
Hello, does anyone have a good source of reference of armor in Burgundian Netherlands? Thanks
(the first image is of philip the fair from 1497 which technically is after the dissolution of the burgundian netherlands but maximilian acquired them as apart of the inheritance from mary of burgundy so, i still threw it in there.)
btw youd be surprised how much of it is inspired by flemish
is that an uppercannon I've never noticed?
tf
oh wait I remember now
What about a stray arrow
Wear only the ornament ceremonially tho
Does anyone have a historical photo of the hooked beak that you can add to a poleaxe?
?
the other end of the poleaxe
this
is this just made up for the game entirely, or was there a reference for it?
here is two examples from Talhoffer if I remember correctly
ah mb
Talhoffer 1459 manuscript
Nice
good point
everything you see in the game is from a manuscript, real weapon or accurate replica so its all historically accurate
and nothing was made up
stab so insane they drew it from multiple angles
this is the medieval example of killcams
but i think these photos are from a fencing manual
yes
how would the backplates look like on these cuirasses
is it like a solid piece or segmented
they’d be of a solid construction. i don’t have any photos on hand myself but im sure someone else does.

"A late 15th century longsword found at Dragmark’s cloister. The shape is identical to many other Scandinavian longswords of the period, with a particularly long grip." (GM:4821 :: jordfynd goteborgsstadsmuseum)

"Artist: Juan Gómez (collaborator of Juan Guas ).
Year: 1469.
Original location: Convent of San Millán.
Current location: Ávila Cathedral (Chapel of Our Lady of the Cloister). He founded the Convent of San Millán, which was built in 1468; and it was there that he wished to be buried. His epitaph read:
Here lies Juan Núñez Dávila , who founded this Monastery and the Church of Santa María de las Vacas. He died in the year 1469. In his testamentary wishes he wrote:
...that then in the year that I die they make me a very fine alabaster effigy with its alabaster pillows, armed with the weapons that are now used and with sleeves and skirts that look like gilded jazeran mail and the sword and spurs likewise gilded and a page at the feet with some gilded spurs in his hand and a French helmet with its gilded pommels and a dragon on which the said page is lying." https://caballerosyarte2.blogspot.com/2015/05/don-juan-nunez-davila.html
why did they decide to move that
so awesome his request is extant and interesting that the sallet is specified as a french helmet
Anyone know a good website for armor
tryna get a bascinet
based on the a69 from the wallace collection
I have to say that you would be better off commissioning from a smith.
Royal Oak Armoury made a decent repro of it
Im broke as fuck and i just want it for display purposes
I mean theres websites out there that will get you a regular "bascinet" if you dont mind the quality of it
if you're from europe these ones are just larp stuff
https://www.celticwebmerchant.com/en-int/collections/bascinet
so they're cheaper
larpscinets
The only real meaning of LARP.
Js found out Constantinople fell 573 years ago today
