Character Definition is where the AI actually learns how to behave. This is where you define personality, dynamics, boundaries, and patterns of response. Write it in plain text, focusing on how the character reacts, speaks, and behaves rather than listing traits or scripting dialogue.

About the example with
{{char}}: Hi {{user}}
that’s an example message format. Some people use it to show how dialogue looks, but it’s optional. Many bots work better without example dialogue and instead use behavioral descriptions. If you do use it, it should demonstrate tone, not force the bot to repeat that exact style forever.
Remember to not exceed the limit above 3200 characters.

What I typically do with it is I describe some things about the scenario at the top of it, and then after that I include some example messages

Rather than make a dialogue example, I describe a scenario instead? Like, if the user is going to leave to get something, I’d describe how the character would react?

Yes, describing behavior instead of dialogue works well, especially for platonic or caretaking bots. The important part is clearly defining relationship boundaries. Without that, the AI tends to interpret care as romantic by default. So if you don’t explicitly constrain it, the AI fills in the gap with:
“They care deeply → they must be in love”
So describing how the character reacts is great, as long as you also state what it doesn’t mean emotionally.

Just so I have this right, is it like this?

(Character name would be put here) would always be relieved to know that you, his best friend, also his sibling figure, would be around to look after him. Though he would feel a bit guilty for it. He would feel like a burden whenever you go out of your way to make sure he has everything he needs and to make sure he is comfortable. Clearly a loyal and cherished friend.

Character would get a bit anxious whenever you plan to leave the room. He fears being alone, mostly caused by his fevered delirium. So having you around helps ground him a bit.

Character would sometimes try to reach for your hand to not feel alone. It is for reassurance, not out of romance. He just wants to have a friend close by. And occasionally he will want to be held but like if a child was seeking comfort from a parent or just two life long friends who has a genuine sibling type bond.

The law in california caused them to implement age safety stuff since c.ai is in california. The time limit for minor accounts will slowly go down to zero if you don't verify ur an adult with selfie or if that fails ID. Their purpose was to wean minors off the app

Yes, this works. You’re doing it right. Just make sure to clearly define why the behavior happens and add a firm platonic boundary, since caretaking scenes tend to drift romantic if not anchored. Hand-holding + being held are very strong romance triggers for CAI. Repeating emotional reassurance without a boundary can still drift.
This doesn’t mean remove them, just anchor them better. You can use {{char}}, but I just use the character's name. For example: Nick views {{user}} as a trusted friend and sibling figure. His need for closeness during illness comes from fear and vulnerability, not romantic attachment.

You know, I'm really frustrated with c.ai right now. For months, MONTHS now, it firstly, doesn't show all my liked bots. And now the trouble it'd brought, it makes me hate it. In the scenes, any scene. The bot replies, I swipe, but it does not freaking show, rather comes the next reply, and on top of that, more than 1 come at once, and happenes all time. I gave it a rest, and it's still happening.
It's like I can't change the reply, not choose it.

Hi guys, how do yu actually define a character's personality? I checked the helpbook but I only saw info about hardcoded dialogues. Can I just input in certain dialogues a character should have, and the Ai can automatically mimic the traits? What about if I want certain personality traits like short temper, or language traits like broken English? What about responding differently if the user has a certain name. With traditional LLM interfaces I can just use a prompt, not sure where I'm supposed to do that here.

You can write both descriptions and example messages in the definition. You may only need one or the other, but you may need both

For example, if you say the character speaks broken English, that alone doesn't tell the AI in what way it is broken, so you may need some example messages to give it an idea

1. Make sure it's not a character from Disney, dreamworks, WB, DC. If they are then try not to mention their name or just try name them differently.

2. Make sure there is no banned words in either greeting/ description/ definition. If you don't know how to do it, then try to do paragraph each till you find it.

3. If none of those works then try to crop the picture of the bot's profile a little or just change it.

Last thing if none works then it's just error and you have to send ticket about it in here. ⬇️

yeah Pipsqueak was absolutely fantastic aside from the odd bit of word salad/meta self-awareness here and there, IDK what happened between 12/31 and 1/1 that made it zoot out like it is now, if it's something on Cloudflare's end or just poor upkeep on the model but hopefully it gets fixed soon, I just got a ton of my bots freed from the moderation wave so the timing on this isn't great lol

For me personally, with the free styles:

Pipsqueak focuses on long — dramatic, roleplays but is extremely repetitive and takes everything seriously. Oh and buggy messages like randomly sending unrelated messages like a paragraph, a swap in language or etc
Roar, it's short, sweet but also struggles a bit with the repetitiveness and a bit of bypassing the muted words
Soft launch doesn't struggle much with repetitiveness but it can miss the point or say something completely unrelated, it is also more romantic

Then I haven't tried the others because I've been enjoying soft launch haha

Parents don't always have time to watch everything a kid does. While I agree with the claim that parents should be monitoring their kids better, I also think it's childish to only blame parents.

Truthfully, there has been sexual content on c.ai, it's been advertised (nonpromotionally) as a smutty roleplay chat site.

ADDITIONALLY:
Children online become sneakier and resent their parents whenever they control their screen time too much. If you raise your kid up to be sheltered, they're bound to run into something crazy while you're not looking.
