A lorebook is a collection of small bits of info about a world and characters in a world that wouldn't make sense to put in a deacription, but if you ask the bot about it they'll know the setting and the world. for example a sonic lorebook might look like:

Green Hill Zone, First Zone, Zone 1
A hilly field of grass consisting of low levem enemies, loops, and tunnels for sonic to roll around in.

Tails, Sonic's friend, Miles "Tales" Prowler
A childlike young genius boy-fox with golden fur and multiple tails

If you want a dictionary defintion this is my best shot
A lorebook is a series of defined keywords that, when activated, insert specific content into the prompt. They can be used to serve content to the AI about the character's backstory, setting, environment, etc without needing to have it be in character definitions.

A keyword is activated when it is mentioned in a message. For example, let's say one of the keywords in your lorebook is the word, "Apple." Let's further say that the content you have associated with the keyword is "{{char}} really loves Apples and will do anything to get one." By mentioning the word "Apple" in your message this then inserts that keyword into the prompt, thereby helping the AI understand how it should respond when Apples are mentioned.
This is how most lorebooks in most chatbots work. They're usually .txt files, and the text file should generally just be a list of keywords followed by the lore entries with blank lines in between each one.
