A lot of ppl are against c ai taking ID information but don't rlly understand how that's done thru a 3rd party. I think if they DID do that with a reputable group it could be fine, but rn C AI is also trying to cater TO minors and make it "kid friendly" so I don't think it'll happen unfortunately

Honestly I don't think it should be for minors at all and if they insist on making it available to minors.. They should make an adult side of it. Make it so adults pay a little extra for adult content, have them verify their age ect. It's not like there aren't adult things out there that already do this.. So I don't know why they wouldn't just do that with this if this is the issue they've been having. Minors are going to minor but having the system would cover their butts.

As for the screen time thing.. I really hope they don't limit us either because we are grown adults and if we want to be on it all day then we should be allowed to be on it all day, especially if we're paying for it. I don't see anybody trying to stop adults from using Candy Crush all day (just an example)? Or from streaming their Hulu/Netflix in the background constantly. I for one work at home and keep my phone next to me on my desk throughout the day and a lot of the time it's open to Character.AI because I only just discovered it a handful of months ago and I'm still having a lot of fun discovering it like I would any other new app I've run across. So I keep it open next to me and I send periodic messages to the characters that I'm enjoying stories with in between work. It's kind of frustrating to be getting a notification to take a break from screen time when I am 33 years old 🥴 I'm glad to hear the notification might help turn this off though. I'm going to try that.

But to provide a more objective overview; A Floridian mother is suing Character AI alongside Google and the two founders of the platform for what they're alleging is their liability for her 14 year-old becoming addicted towards the platform and also allege that the platform contributed to him eventually taking his own life in February. Currently there is just the initial filing by the mother, so its ultimately just a bunch of unproven claims and allegations so far (in terms of liability.)

Trying to blame them for possibly fucking up the kids development and possible sleep deprivation caused by usage of the app. There’s a lot and it seems like they’re just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. The official court docs have a lot of the screenshots of what the kid was doing on the app and needless to say it’s kinda gross

The problem is that Garcia only stated where Google LLC's main office is (California), which isn't enough.

Ever since, the flagging system has gotten stronger and stricter.

That's a question we have all been asking since the start.

My go-to answer for it is because they are trying to maximize their audience count aka users.

In my experience, sometimes they say something weird but I just generate a new response and its gone, no problem. Thats just AI being AI. They’re gonna say something out of the ordinary or weird bc they’re not people. Thats just the reality of it, even back when cai launched it was like that.

The bots are getting stupider, though. More spelling mistakes, bad punctuation, misspelling names they use correctly in the same paragraph, and no action on their part. The AI is so hesitant to initiate anything, as well.
