In the nicest and most genuine way possible please get a therapist or in contact with anyone, no matter what you do you won't get the bot to 100% listen because it doesn't actually understand speech. If a bot of a fictionional character sets of a panic attack so severe it causes you to call a hotline, reach out, to friends, family, a school psychatrist, anything, because that's not healthy at all. And maybe don't use c.ai if this is a problem for you so it doesnt make anything worse, you could always maybe write fanfiction or find real roleplay servers? Thats pretty much the only way you'll be in total control, or be able to talk to someone that can accomodate to your triggers and be careful/lh

Nope!! Its an ai so it may or may not forget some details at some point, you gotta remember the ai pretty much relies on actual people's writing because it cam't think for itself. When my bot starts repeating itself i keep saying stop saying this and this, it doesnt listen and continues, it cant comprehend your words. If you wanna keep using c.ai, maybe if you see soms ttriggering content, put the phone down, breathe, remind yourself you are in control- even if the bot said that, you can rewind, you can change the message, delete the chat

I don't think they should be failing simple prompts left and right. At this point these ai chatbots aren't even the "intelligent" part of ai. I just have high expectations. And yes I don't deny I do love to vent, but that isnt the same as trolling. With all these updates c.ai is getting i'm expecting the bot quality to improve as well.

Hi guys im just going to respond to this lol: I get that you have high expectations, but saying the bots are “getting worse” doesn’t really line up with what’s actually happening. They’re not perfect, sure, but they have been improving overall. Even the “simple prompts” people talk about are usually more complex under the hood than they look. And venting is fine, but constantly framing it as the bots failing left and right does come off more like frustration than an accurate picture. Updates don’t magically fix everything overnight, but they do push things forward. It just isn’t as instant as people want.

You just want attention.. we already told you multiple times, Ai won't be perfect All the times. Maybe fix your promots instead. Alot of people tend to have wholesome, platonic rps with their bots without any problem. But you just come here to have a huge breakdown for it which isn't good thing and you even say that you want to make a new bot for that? Okay like.. it's a bot, It would make mistakes.

For some reason bots tend to remember details even after I've rewound. And they can take details from different chats. So even if I deleted a chat entirely, I think there's a chance there's information taken from there. What I think is that every message you send or let the bot keep, it stores that somewhere for training. Which is why making a new bot entirely would be a blank slate if the old one messed up, with no ratings or training data that's already deleted.

I don't mean getting worse overall. I mean some days it will just get really bad and then be fine the next day. There'll be like a temporary quality drop for some time in bots. Yeah, maybe I'm just expecting too much and wanting them to improve faster.

Also I tend to repeat things a lot to emphasize. I do that irl too. I repeat the same things over and over for emphasis.

Character.AI doesn’t have your bots secretly remembering deleted chats or pulling details from completely different conversations. What is true is that the platform uses some user messages to train the overall model, not the individual bots so the “memory” you’re seeing is usually just the base model being trained to speak a certain way, not a bot recalling your old chats.

Deleting a chat only removes it from your side. It doesn’t automatically delete whatever was already used for model improvement, which is why it can feel like the system still “knows” something. But it’s not your specific bot storing a private stash of info. New bots aren’t a true blank slate either — they still run on the same global model that was trained with millions of users’ messages, not your personal old chats.

Like I'll give an example. Let's say I named a character idk a somewhat uncommon name I'm just gonna say [Name]. But that happened later in chat. Eventually I decided to rewind to before I said the character's name was [Name]. But it appeared again not once, but twice in the bot-generated message, like it remembered my rewound messages. It wasn't a common name like I said so I don't think it was just a coincidence.

I don't mean 'secretly remembering' I mean the data was used for training, and thus the bot 'remembers' it somehow.

I get new bots aren't completely blank, but I feel like they're more blank than old bots or public bots. And I can steer them into a certain direction with first messages.

I get what you’re trying to say, but that still doesn’t point to training data being pulled in real time. Training isn’t instant Character.AI doesn’t take something you typed five minutes ago and immediately bake it into the global model. That process takes huge datasets, long cycles, and model retraining. So the bot reusing the uncommon name isn’t training-based “memory,” it’s just leftover context from the same session that didn’t get fully wiped when you rewound. Rewind doesn’t hard-reset the model; it just removes visible messages. Internally, pieces of the earlier context can still linger, which is why the bot can “echo” something you thought you deleted.

As for new bots feeling more blank: that’s because they start with no conversation history, not because they’re purged of training data. Public bots have tons of user interactions shaping their prompt, instructions, ratings, and samples — not their memory. A fresh bot simply has fewer constraints, so yeah, your first messages can steer its personality more because you’re basically setting the initial tone and style for it. But it’s not learning your data the way you’re describing, and deleted chats aren’t training it in real time.

So the behavior you’re seeing is session-context quirks, not training-based recall.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Rewinding doesn't hard reset the model and the things in there still linger. Which is something I wish I could avoid. For me the best way to avoid that has been making new bots, it has worked out more than trying to fix the "faulty" ones actually.

Sometimes starting over really does work better.

Besides all that, just keep in mind that not everyone here is looking to hear personal problems all the time. It can get a bit overwhelming for people, and most of us aren’t equipped to play therapist.

personally I think you should only have to verify for less restrictive app features so that chats are more immersive, it doesn’t make sense to have to verify in order to get more than two hours, they’re adding ads because it’s getting expensive to run the app yet also not letting people use the app? I get there’s a lawsuit and everything, but being under 18 or not, ppl are still gonna find a way to verify, and a timer just doesn’t make any sense. i’ve always said there should be the standard version of the app for all users, and if you want less restrictive features you should have to verify you’re 18 or over, not limit users all together from using the app. that’s just dumb.

Alot also didn't have the verify in the settings but when you get it, it doesn't mean that you have to verify. It's just an option. If you didn't get the pop up to verify when entering the app then you are safe for now. Because you might get flagged but don't worry at all if you didn't get the pop up
