its been a while since ive used vesktop to screenshare, and so how the screenshare worked has changed a lot
so, when i try to screenshare, i get to select what audio i want to share
suppose i select one, and then an audio input interface named vencord-screen-share appears, and discord asks me if i want to switch to that input device
should i switch to that device?
also, should i have to change something in the voice suppression settings?

Hello. all streams I have tried to watch, have a horrible kind of "bug" where previous frames flash on screen every couple seconds. it tends to happen more often when more things are moving on the screen. I have no idea what causes it. all I know is it happens on all instances of Vesktop in my home. it is incredibly disorienting and painful and makes watching a stream neigh impossible.

Vesktop doesn't behave very well when the window is narrow. The chat history in a channel and the text input box I'm typing in are truncated, as well as various other UI elements. There aren't really any options if I want it narrow other than zooming out until the text is unreadably small, since the sidebars can't be collapsed. I can't even scroll horizontally.

Would it possible to fix this in Vesktop or is it a Discord limitation?

Hello guys, I am having trouble with sharing my screen through Vesktop. Once I start sharing screen, stream doesn't start and discord crashes, but then it immediately brings me back to the same page I was on, but unable to click any button or interact at all. It even keeps me in the same voice channel I was in before the crash. I do not understand. Ping me for any needed details.

Turns out this was an issue with my window manager or with Electron or a mix of both. I solved it by passing the inverse of my desktop's fractional scaling in as --force-device-scale, i.e. vesktop --force-device-scale=0.6666 for 1.5x fractional scaling.

I am currently attempting to stream a game using Vesktop on Arch Linux, and seemingly when trying to select only the game, it then ticks all other applications (firefox, spotify, etc). If I select system or none, it only selects those, but anything other than those two it selects all applications in the list? Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

This only happens when I use screenshare. It does not die randomly otherwise.

Also sometimes Vesktop freezes when I turn on screenshare, it has been that way for a long time, I think more than a year at this point. but it happens randomly and I don't know the conditions causing it.

I think this issue has something to do with OBS screen capture freezing? That also happens randomly and I have to re-configure OBS to capture the same screen to fix it. I'm suspecting that OBS suffers from same issue. but it survives and only screen capture freezes. but Vesktop instead dies along with it.

I got an easier way with the keyword FlatHub, here's what to do for Manjaro Users :

• Going to the Manjaro's appStore and install "Bazaar" (It's another appstore specific to FlatHub)
• Open Bazaar and search for "Vesktop"
• install it, it will automatically install all dependencies in the same time

Now, I can use Discord without Navigator \o/

Very late reply to this, but I've had this happen to. It's intermittent and seems to have no consistent trigger that I can see. All I do to remedy it is just select the same window a second time and then the stream loads up and runs fine for screen sharing.

I'm having a little bit of a weird bug that I'm not really sure the cause of. Whenever I screenshare with Vesktop it seems to share all audio coming from my computer, including anyone's voice in the call. I'm not really sure if this is just a limitation of Vesktop; I couldn't really find anything when I was looking this up. It's definitely not the end of the world but I thought I'd ask about it here anyway to know if theres a way to fix it. I'm on Windows 10

Bug: Camera crash on Wayland (Arch Linux) — workaround included

Vesktop 1.6.5 with electron40 crashes instantly when toggling camera OFF during a call. Local preview works fine but the remote peer can't see you, and turning it off kills the process.

Specs: Arch Linux, KDE Plasma 6.6.3 Wayland, kernel 6.19.10, Vesktop 1.6.5, electron40-bin 40.8.3, Intel iHD GPU with working VAAPI

Error in logs:
No video codecs in common.
FATAL: webrtc_video_engine.cc:2669
Check failed: parameters_.codec_settings

Tried disabling VAAPI features, forcing X11 mode, various Chromium flags, nothing worked. openh264, libvpx, intel-media-driver all installed and libffmpeg.so inside electron40 has H.264/VP8/VP9 symbols, so codecs exist but WebRTC can't negotiate them.

Workaround: force vesktop-bin to use electron39 instead of electron40:
bashsudo sed -i 's/electron40/electron39/g' /usr/bin/vesktop

Camera works perfectly on electron39 (39.5.2), so this is a regression in electron40's WebRTC stack on Wayland. Hope this helps someone else while it gets fixed.

I don't have much free space on my SSD, only just under 30GiB. When I leave Vesktop open in the background, I have it happen every now and then (sometimes two to three times in a single day, sometimes not at all for several days, very irregular) that I suddenly get a warning that I have 0B of free space left on my disk. When closing Vesktop after that warning through right-clicking the tray icon and hitting "Quit", KDE pops up with a crash notification after a few seconds:

I have by now figured out that it definitely is Vesktop that causes the issue (that's why I report this here), because after Vesktop is gone (even if I quit it through killall -9 vesktop, because it sometimes fails to quit normally), the disk goes immediately back to ~30GiB free space. I'm on Fedora 43 BTW, with the.rpm version of Vesktop.

Ok, this might sound strange, but whenever my friend plays marvel rivals, my discord crashes if I join the discord server with him in it. this does not happen in any other server just my friend group one. Idk how to get useful logs for vesktop so Ill need some help with that.

Hello! I have this super duper weird issue where my screenshare is always limited to 30 fps 1080p no matter what i choose :P, im on bazzite with the latest flatpak install of vesktop from the bazzar marketplace. Was hoping this is a common issue so i can get it worked out quickly but it looks like a pretty niche issue. Adding onto this, my screenshare always seems to look a little pixelated. I had that issue when having the screenshare resolution limit bypass enabled. It for some reason always sets it to 1080p even if you manually select 720p in the dialogue. And because Discord recently started limiting the screenshare throughput for non-Nitro users, that now struggles to get shoved through the too thin data pipe and starts to pixelate because of that. I've disabled the plugin for now, and when I share my screen to anybody except my little brother, it works and everything on screen is legible.

it does make sense that it is a system issue, seeing as i couldn't replicate the same issue on my steam deck, but it does not make sense that it is a chromium problem and not a vesktop-related problem when ending a screen share 1. works on my steam deck on the vesktop flatpak, 2. works in browser on obsidian's steam deck, when it doesn't on the vesktop flatpak on the same steam deck, and 3. is only happening to some people

Hi! I'm having a small issue with the desktop app in regards to screensharing.

So, a buddy of mine got me a new SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X headset, and I've been trying out the new Sonar technology they've got with their GG app. It's there where I ran into an issue where my audio, for some reason, is echoed through Vesktop's screenshare along with the desktop audio. On Discord with Vencord installed, it works just fine, which is why I'm messaging about this here.

Now, I have heard of a solution to this issue on Discord is that you have to turn off the call volume in your mixer settings; you do this by pressing Win + R, typing "sndvol", and then heading to both your base headphones and your sonar microphone and muting any active Discord sources there. The problem is that Vesktop has no such source built into it, so I can't mess with the volume settings that way like I would be able to with Discord.

Is there an easy solution like that currently in the works for the desktop app or do I have to switch back over to Discord for the time being until somebody makes one? Thanks!

Hi, not too recently (around like over a month now with no fix) this started popping up on my system (Arch linux, AUR "vesktop") but it doesn't crash the app fully, the only thing this fake crash does is prevent any of my streams to have any audio which is annoying because I would like to not share my entire desktop audio, especially discord pings while I'm streaming a game to my friend.
I have noticed a new input source named something like "vencord-screenshare" or something like that whenever I stream but that also produces no audio

Hey, was hoping to get some help with issue I've been facing when it comes to screnshare.

Not sure why, but in recent releases, I can't screenshare programs without my mic audio getting cut off from the call, and being instead cast into the stream. I feel it has to do with the fact that whenever I choose a program to stream from, it autoselects speech-dispatcher-dummy as an audio source, with no way to deselect it.

How do I fix this issue? I used to do album listening parties with friends, and it's been impossible to do since.

What I meant is that, have you clicked it to try to deselect every time you've tested?
Because you might be selecting it by doing that without realizing. On my computer at least, it's a visual bug that shows it as selected but functionally it isn't; so if you're clicking to try to deselect you might be selecting it invisibly

Hey all, ran into a new issue I've never seen before. I stream and use fugi.tech for reactive PNGs, but when using Vesktop it tells me Reactive can not find Discord running on your computer. Hi. Could you please tell me why my screen streaming is running through the CPU and eventually pushing it to peak load levels, even though hardware acceleration is enabled in the client settings? I tried to solve the problem myself, but couldn't. I only managed to figure out that I'm getting strange messages related to frames from OpenH264 in the console where the desktop is running.

the hardware acceleration toggle in client settings only controls GPU rendering for the app UI, not the video encoding pipeline for screen share. the openh264 messages in your console confirm you're encoding through a software encoder which runs entirely on CPU by design, the client is just falling back to it instead of using a hardware encoder like nvenc, vaapi, or QuickSync

this usually happens because either your hardware encoder isn't properly exposed to the app, or the encoder negotiation failed silently. on Linux especially this is common since VAAPI/NVENC support depends on having the right drivers and libraries installed and Electron apps don't always pick them up automatically

to actually fix it you need to confirm your hardware encoder is accessible first. run vainfo for AMD/Intel or check nvidia-smi for NVIDIA and see if the encoder shows up. if it does but the client still falls back to openh264, the issue is likely Electron not finding it without the right flags

honestly in my onion, not great. the encoding pipeline in vesktop (and discord in general on linux) goes through chromium/electron's webrtc stack, which has its own ideas about what encoder to use and mostly just falls back to software. there's no direct NVENC path

what actually happens is chromium tries to use VAAPI for hardware encoding on linux, not NVENC directly. so even with an nvidia GPU, whether hardware encoding works depends on whether you have the nvidia VAAPI driver set up (nvidia-vaapi-driver), not just the regular nvidia driver. if that's missing or misconfigured, chromium silently falls back to openh264 on the CPU

there iiiiiiiiiiiiis also an open issue on the vesktop repo about hardware encoding never really working properly, been sitting there for a while with no clean fix. AV1 encoding via NVENC on RTX 40s's series is even further out, discord itself doesn't negotiate AV1 for their outgoing streams...

you have an RTX 4060 on driver 595.58.03 with CUDA 13.2, that's all fine. the problem is you're on Arch + Hyprland (Wayland) and the nvidia-vaapi-driver package is almost certainly either not installed or not being picked up by electron

chromium/electron DOES NOT TALK TO NVENC DIRECTLY it goes through VAAPI. so even though your GPU is fully capable, without nvidia-vaapi-driver installed and the env var set, electron has no hardware encoding path and falls straight back to openh264 on your CPU

install the driver: sudo pacman -S nvidia-vaapi-driver (if you havent already)
add tehse enviroments!

NVD_BACKEND=direct
LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=nvidia

then launch vesktop with:

--enable-features=VaapiVideoEncoder,VaapiVideoEncoderLinuxGL

you can set that as a permanent flag in vesktop's flags file or a launch wrapper

also worth checking: nvidia-smi shows electron40 using 404MiB of VRAM already (that's vesktop), so it's definitely running on your discrete GPU. the VAAPI path just isn't connected

libva-nvidia-driver only exposes decoding via NVDEC, not encoding via NVENC. so VAAPI hardware encoding through this driver isn't actually possible..
this is a known limitation of libva-nvidia-driver, it was never designed to expose the encoder. electron's VAAPI encoding path has nothing to attach to, which is why it keeps falling back to da flippen openh264.. unfortunately aside from that there's no clean fix for this on nvidia+linux in vesktop...
the encoding side just isn't exposed through any VAAPI path that electron can use

one thing worth trying though
there's a Vencord plugin called ScreenShareFixes that patches the screenshare codec negotiation. might be worth seeing if forcing a different codec path through that changes anything, since the bottleneck might be negotiable at the Discord/WebRTC layer rather than purely a VAAPI issue

this got a tactile, stylus compatible screen

so the tactile part, navigating with finger touch is fine, works like if I was on phone

but the stylus part, when interacting with anything that involves scrolling that doesn't have a scrollbar to drag on, freezes up the app

I'm on CachyOS so that would be with the Linux package, on KDE/Wayland

but yeah, when trying to scroll the server bar and the channel list with the stylus, it feels like the app panics because it doesn't know what's interacting with it (even though the pen is in "mouse mode" in KDE)

Anybody else on arch having issues with dismissing the discord nitro offer that occasionally pops up? It seems that some package that updated today is causing electron to crash as soon as vesktop tries to load the nitro offer, preventing it from being dismissed. Hard to re-create myself, as I eventually was able to get past it by dismissing the offer through the mobile app before restarting the client, but if there are logs somewhere, I can look for them

Im having this issue where if i join a voice call, and then leave my bluetooth headphones (with multipoint) dont switch because vesktop doesn't stop the audio session? any fix for that?

When I'm streaming anything to anyone, my streams are always laggy as hell, and I don't know what to do (and that's not even mentioning the fact that other people can hear their own voices, as well as sound from other apps on the stream, especially when I'm showing a specific app)

Hello, would appreciate any advice/troubleshooting on this ongoing issue- my boyfriend is using Vesktop on CatchyOS and there seems to be an on and off issue, where when sometimes trying to screen share in a call, after selecting the monitor and selecting “share all audio”, it will not stream any audio- sometimes it will only share some audio, like from certain tabs, and sometimes it breaks all the audio on the PC- including other applications output and mic input. Only restarting seems to fix the issue, but only temporarily, and sometimes doesn’t fix it. Sometimes screen sharing will also cause the whole discord to freeze

hi, when loading up a custom theme everything works fine (fonts, ui, etc) but the background/backdrop doesnt load. i don't think this is in known issues, and everyting is fully up-to-date. the backdrop matches the vanilla blackdrop, and by changing the vanilla backdrops it also changes the real backdrop, WITH the custom theme installed

Hey there, I use Vesktop on my Arch Linux system and recently came across the issue where it now seems to block VPN users on Linux specifically (I just read the thread about it in #1257025907625951423).
I have managed to work around this by setting the user agent flag on a custom desktop file, however there's a very odd issue where I don't get either audio input nor output in voice channels.
What's even weirder is that it works perfectly on LibreWolf, without even using any user agent modification besides just having Vencord installed through ViolentMonkey.
Has anyone else ran into this issue where you can't get audio on Vesktop while on a VPN on Linux with the user agent workaround?
And no, I can't turn off the VPN.

I need to use a VPN otherwise Discord demands I scan an ID to access my own server, similar to what happened to the UK. In any case, it works on LibreWolf and it used to work on Vesktop (text channels wouldn't load but voicechat would work fine). I'm trying to figure out if there's a workaround for this, I'd prefer to be able to use Vesktop to screenshare with audio.
I also get better voicechat latency in certain regions when using a VPN instead of direct connection for some reason.
