i have a very strange use case for vesktop: there's an unresolved bug with discord desktop on windows (whether vencord is present or not) that causes the screen sharing on my rtx 2070 to use an absurd amount of video encode at 1080p, making screen sharing perform terribly

so i'm using vesktop instead because, while it only hits about 50 fps at 1080p, it still performs better than the broken state of discord desktop rn

that being said, i'm noticing that "Video Hardware Acceleration" seems to not do anything? is this normal behaviour (because vesktop doesn't have access to such features/it's just not possible)

i do not see vesktop using the gpu video encode at all, and performance remains around 50 fps for 1080p60

also, cloud authorization is broken for vesktop canary

also, when starting a screen share via vesktop, it seems that after starting a stream, you have to "change stream" again and click on 60 fps otherwise it remains capped at 30 fps for some reason (maybe because the streaming status claims "1080p30" no matter what lol)

Its located in Appdata Roaming\vesktop\settings as settings.json but you need to wrap everything in { "settings": {} } and add a "quickCss": "" if you want to load into vencord

I can see theres an issue where people are commenting about the bug on there but the actual issue they're commenting on is about the infinite loading issue, feel there should be a separate issue specifically for something like "if screenshare is broken (e.g. infinite loading for viewers), then ending the stream doesn't freeze vesktop and force me to restart"

With Vesktop, I connect and the voice keeps getting disconnected for no reason. I try the same thing over Discord itself and that does not happen. Wanted to ask about this problem I was having about a month ago. I am still having the same problem where I am unable to share my screen. I didn't see it added to #1257025907625951423 , and there were two other people who reported the same exact issue.
Wanted to know if there might be a fix I don't know about? I am on the latest version.

For convenience, here is the text of the original post, as well as the screenshot of the error:

I am unable to screen share. I get an instant crash whenever I select a screen or window to try to stream. This screen pops up for a moment before the app returns to whatever server I'm in. I don't disconnect from calls or anything, but the button to try to screen share doesn't even bring up a window selection after the crash. I know it says "discord" at the top, but this is the vesktop app.

Information that might be helpful:
-I am on NixOS using Wayland
-In Vesktop, going to Settings > Updater, I'm shown as up to date
-I unfortunately don't remember when this issue started, I've been dragging my feet about fixing it, but I have been able to stream just fine in the past.
-I am able to stream using the webapp in firefox

it specifically happens if I've previously streamed before in the same session with audio sharing enabled, and then try to stream again, at which point this happens

which then causes vesktop to crash entirely

So this is a strange one. If one specific person pings me, Vesktop doesn't show the user or text of the notification. It works for everyone else. Any ideas? Seems to happen on multiple devices. It does not do it on the standard Canary client.

As you can see in this screenshot, the top one is from the one person this happens with, while the other two are fine.

A question that has come up recently but seems to have not been resolved:
I'm using Vesktop on Linux Mint. I'm missing the unread badge on the taskbar icon. My Discord is not on my main monitor, and I use the icon to track if there's anything that needs my attention. I know there's Vesktop's icon in the tray, but it does not answer my "I'm in game and want to know if anything is moving along" need.
I've looked in Known Issues and none of the obvious narrow terms (taskbar, task bar, notification, notification badge) got me any hits. I read the FAQ and there doesn't seem to be anything about it either.

I have this weird issue on CachyOS/Vesktop 1.6.5:

whenever I start the program, I get a crash notification from KDE. However vesktop works just fine, it's just an annoyance.

I can see a real crash from ThreadPoolForeg (I think) when I look in coredumpctl.
And I just tried in a VM on a fresh install, and I don't have the problem.

Took a little while, but I figured out where I went wrong in updating my packages. I hadn't updated the Nix channel I was using, so when I went to update I was using the old channel with an out of date Vesktop.

hey guys, i'm on fedora kde with Vesktop, and the stream screen button just does nothing. I downloaded vesktop because Discord with vencord was working just fine yesterday (installed fedora yesterday), but today the stream button there also stopped working. On the discord client i can click it, it then brings up a window making me choose between window and screen, and then I can't click anything anymore. In Vesktop i just cant click the button at all

Linux wayland, Vesktop no longer recognizes holding down a key as trying to type it repeatedly, instead only type it once.
This works fine in web discord, and scankey correctly shows keys as being held down despite vesktop only recognizing it as being pressed once

Hello! I'm not suire if this is a vesktop issue per se, but I thought about asking about it here.

I have this issue when streaming my display (a game) AND its audio: my friends have echo on their voice. I'm not sure why, thw game's audio track does not include their voice, but the echo only appears when I sahre the app's audio alongside the video

Had some issues with Vesktop insisting on loading settings from an old location after having added a couple of new hd's and installing(as in unpacking the portable zip) a clean version on a different drive. It just opens as a plain discord, no Vesktop section in settings.
Also don't have a tray icon, and can't seem to find a setting to turn it on. Typing Tray in the searchbox in settings yields no results

pretty much, you cant add any games or programs to display as RPC but otherwise its fine

the discord app is a Web browser but they also have a lot of native code that is heavy

Vesktop is also just a web browser but it has very little native elements

depending on your pc you may either notice no performance difference or everything is faster. for me vesktop is faster on high end hardware

vesktop has similar ram usage, there's no way to reduce it because we also just wrap the Web app

writing a discord client from scratch is very unpractical and a bit risky for your account

but there are projects that do this (missing a lot of features)

Apologies if this is the wrong place for this. But is there any way, on Windows Vesktop, to have the window frame visible but still themed? Or to add window control buttons, somehow, without the main window frame? Picture attached is, first my official discord client (what I want to emulate), second, Vesktop with the title bar active. When deactivating window frame there just ARE no controls to minimize/maximize.

Hey there. I can't use the screenshare correctly anymore since KDE 6.6.2 on wayland.
When I try to screenshare, the window to select the screen/window source appears, but once selected, nothing happens. No window to select quality and audio source, no screenshare starts, and the screenshare button doesn't work anymore until i reboot.
Help plz? Any way I can send logs from a flatpak install?

So SteamOS now includes the popular "nested desktop" script in the OS, making it an official feature. I was previously using the dedicated desktop mode and had vesktop set to start automatically. When I tried to use nested desktop, vesktop seemed to detect it was running in game mode/under gamescope and started fullscreen without any way to minimize it, blocking access to the rest of the desktop and effectively taking over the nested desktop mode. I personally don't use vesktop in gaming mode at any point, but if there's a setting to disable this feature I can't find it. Is there any way to prevent vesktop from taking over my nested desktop session?

Discord started blocking Linux VPN users, for whatever reason.

You have two options:

1. Disable your VPN
2. Spoof your user agent to a windows one. This may trigger more captchas and could flag your account as spam (avoid sending friend requests or joining servers if you do this). You can do this by launching Vesktop via vesktop --user-agent-os windows.

I'm using the Vesktop flatpak on Bazzite, and certain characters (such as Japanese kana & kanji) are rendering as these squares/rectangles. If I open e.g. a Japanese web page in Firefox, or open a Japanese text file in my system's text editor, these characters render normally, so I'm pretty sure the system has all the fonts it needs, and Vesktop isn't rendering them correctly.

i cannot authenticate 3rd party plugins such as the Stream Deck (Streamcontroller) plugin. it uses the ipc pipe but any attempt to authenticate just get ignored. the file $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/discord-ipc-0 just gets filled up with authentification requests to which vencord never responds to. I am using the latest aur release but apparently its an issue with vesktop overall. the normal discord client functions as expected

Hi there, new to Vesktop, a joy to discover there is a client for arm64 devices. I use an Orange Pi 5 Max as a full-time desktop experience and there is no official Discord client for it -- i was stuck using the web browser tab until discovering Vesktop. Hooray!

Hello I've encountered an issue with Vesktop on Windows 11 that I'm not sure on how to fix. Whenever I screenshare an application people on the VC are able to hear themselves whenever they view the screenshare. Can anyone help me fix this issue?

Discord / Vesktop refusing to load while using VPN on Linux

Discord started blocking Linux VPN users, for whatever reason.

You have two options:

1. Disable your VPN
2. Spoof your user agent to a windows one. This may trigger more captchas and could flag your account as spam (avoid sending friend requests or joining servers if you do this). You can do this by launching Vesktop via vesktop --user-agent-os windows.

So I downloaded Vesktop on linux and ran into an issue when screensharing some things with friends, they're reporting that the audio will randomly become super quiet kinda like stream attenuation at random points, and on the flipside every so often the audio i'm hearing will peak for a split second.

I'm running the Vesktop flatpak in Debian with Wayland. I'm using sway wm, and have mostly removed GNOME. Clicking links in vesktop does not open them in my browser. My $BROWSER variable is set, perhaps flatpacks can't access this variable?

hi, i noticed vesktop doesnt respect the xdg base directory specification for the .pki directory, is there some way to force that?

vesktop always creates ~/.pki on startup, although theres an xdg specification which states it should be in $XDG_DATA_HOME instead
