hi everyone, I've had this issue for ages now using Vesktop on Wayland with GNOME desktop, when screensharing there's black artifacts/flickering near the upper portion of the frame, I've had this on Arch using AUR vesktop-bin and now Fedora as a fresh install as a flatpak
for context i am using rtx 4060 ti and have the nvidia drivers natively installed and read the known issues

Anybody else having issues where they can't watch other's streams but people can watch your stream?

Tested in comparison to the plain discord web app on Firefox, I can see streams fine on there. Something is up with Vesktop for me. I tried both Vesktop and Vesktop-bin on arch.

In case it was something with my system electron.

With the new 590 drivers, assuming you're on a 1600 series or more recent, you should give video hw a crack again. Maybe it's not scuffed now.

Okay, I've now tried this on vesktop, vesktop-bin, and discord stable/canary branches, and with or without my theme

Attempting to drag any channels, servers, DM's, images, or ANYTHING within the app will completely break it, making it so I can no longer click on anything, requiring a force restart every time

I have no idea what could be causing this, if I am seriously the only one having this issue, I'll just bind something to restart vesktop

I will quickly disable all plugins to see if any of those could be causing anything

Did some more testing, plugins or no plugins, I am able to move things that are intended to move OR I am allowed to move (eg. channels in my own server), but attempting to say, move a channel in this server, completely breaks all UI interaction

If you have the app Octopi installed, it has a very handy tab when you have a package selected that shows you every file an application has installed on your system and where it is. Try deleting all of those. Might be tedious, but it'll guarantee a full reset.

Octopi is a GUI package manager that hooks into pacman and your AUR helper. When you select a package on it

Okay, yes, after uninstalling vesktop, deleting all of vesktop (and electrons) data in cache/config/share/state, and reinstalling vesktop, I still have the issue where dragging items can completely freeze the app requiring me to kill and restart it

I don't actually know if the issue occurs on the regular discord package, so, I also wouldnt be suprised if its just discord/electron being shit

Like I said, try the flatpak. Since the dependencies are bundled in and managed by the vesktop team, maybe they work better. Regardless of your qualms with flatpak, it's a useful test case here.

Are there any common issues regarding being unable to watch specific screen shares while on a voice call?

For example I am on a voice call and 3 people are streaming. Some of them I am able to watch the streams and others I get the stream error. On vencord it works normally but vesktop is having this issue

Hey i got a question. I recently noticed that the Rich Presence from discord stopped working on windows with vesktop. I also tried it on linux (arch linux) to play the same game and there it works like intended and shows that i'm playing the game in my discord status. Anyone know why this happens (just opens a black screen) when I try to play Wordle out of a call on Vesktop? I'm on Linux for what it's worth. Changing channel just shows a pop up with the Wordle logo.

Scenario:
Vesktop worked as expected for most of yesterday, able to screenshare with sound.
Closed it for 4 hours, reopened and missed a notification that showed up when I did. Thought nothing of it, and if it was important figured it would show up again if I reopened it.

After reopening Vesktop after those 4 hours, changing nothing with the system, anything I screenshare is infinitely loading for viewers and when I end the screenshare Vesktop crashes and needs to be restarted.

Edit: Hardware Acceleration off resolve the issue, but it was working fine yesterday so a solution would still be nice or at least letting the devs know there is an issue that has come up.

I'm trying to screenshare with Vesktop on EndeavourOS w/ Niri, but when I press 'go live', my entire discord freezes and i'm forced to kill & restart it cause it's not recovering from that freeze. It is also not letting me choose what I want to screen share, like what window or screen I'd like to share and instead defaults to the Vesktop window. How can I solve this?

Using the vesktop-bin AUR package with an AMD card, my hardware encoding for screen share was working perfectly not even an hour ago, and then after restarting Vesktop it no longer works. It shows an unknown codec and resolution, with a bitrate of 300 kbps - which I attribute to the audio. Turning hardware encoding off fixes it, but produces laggy results. The official client seems to work fine, and I have tried restarting multiple times. The flatpak package just crashes outright when the stream starts.

I recently updated to PopOS 24.04 with COSMIC (Wayland) and while Vesktop works 99%, I've noticed the "close to tray and reopen" feature isn't quite working right. I've tried with both the Flatpak install and the .deb install, but on either one, the Vesktop icon in the tray doesn't open the window when clicked, though it does close the currently open window. I have to right-click the icon and either restart Vesktop or Repair Vencord to get the window to re-open.

I've double checked my settings and the associated ones enabled (close to tray, show tray icon, show Vesktop when clicking tray icon).

I imagine this could be growing pains with COSMIC and switching desktop environments may fix the issue, but wanted to know if anyone else was having a similar problem.

hi! so for some reason im running into like specifically network problems with vesktop right now. sometimes when i join a voice channel itll get stuck on this "DTLS Connecting" message, other times itll seem okay at first but then my network interface will just disable itself in the middle of the call. this does not happen with the official discord client, and the problem goes away immediately after i leave the voice channel in vesktop. also, messages generally dont send in vesktop even after i leave the voice channel, i have to completely close and relaunch the program to get it to properly send messages again

additional notes: im using arch linux with kde plasma, im using the vesktop-bin package at the moment but ive also managed to do this with just the "vesktop" package, both from the AUR. it happens both when i try the spoofing workaround for vpns and without. i dont use tailscale or docker either

I'm trying to set up push-to-talk. Recording an input for the hotkey like F1 works, and I hear the beep when holding it and the unbeep when releasing. Having an issue with vesktop - I can join VC and talk to others but I'm unable to hear anything coming from them and their icons don't light up green when they're talking (double checked this and that I have the correct output being used - I am hearing pings and system sounds from discord, I have not tested if others stream audio works).

I am definitely connected and not lagging because I've had it confirmed in text that my mic is going through clearly. I'm not receiving any "failed to connect" from the voice channels in the bottom left either - although I can't load the debug popout if I'm supposed to be able to (screnshot of what I can see attached)

Unsure what would cause this, as it was working yesterday and I haven't changed anything between (no updates etc.).
Issue has persisted through: different voice channels in same server, voice channels in different servers, vesktop restart (quit out > relaunch), full PC Restart (shut down, wait a few seconds, boot up).

Running Linux Mint, have the VPN fix listed in #1257025907625951423 active but it hasn't interfered with anything to my knowledge prior to now so shouldn't be the cause as far as I'm aware.

chrome deliberately allocates 1TB of virtual memory for their sandbox (the idea is to add extreme amounts of free memory around all memory used by the sandbox so that if there are ever issues like pointer overflows it wont write to memory that actually matters)

Hey vesktop support. I know there is a known issue [here](#1426180286646980668 message) for discord blocking VPNs. However, I use tailscale, with a split tunnel and no routing of internet traffic over the VPN and I get an issue connecting to voice channels only while using the vesktop client while tailscale is active. Discord stable and vencord patching discord stable are fine. Discord in the browser is also ok. In vesktop I get stuck with "DTLS connecting". I show in the voice channel, and I can see my own microphone activity, but others in the channel see nothing. I'm on Arch Linux. I've tried the Vesktop appimage and the version available in the AUR. Please let me know if there is anymore info I can share or troubleshooting steps I can try. I started poking around in the vesktop repo, but I couldn't see anything specific about how connections are made in there that might be changing things. Maybe I've jumped to a conclusion, but I was assuming it was the electron wrapper for vesktop as the main variable that is changing to likely be the issue.

I figured it out, this plugin seems to be causing issues with hardware acceleration. Having it enabled causes [334500:0115/002918.326991:ERROR:third_party/webrtc/media/engine/webrtc_video_engine.cc:1101] No video codecs in common.

Unfortunately it caps the bitrate and looks horrible, but at least it doesn't crash now. Should I report this anywhere?

Chromium (and by extension Electron) on Linux doesn't support H265 encoding at all (neither HW nor SW accelerated), so it being in the list is just wrong for this platform and will never work.

Imo the current approach of universally changing the hardcoded encoder order is bound to cause issues for some platforms or hardware configurations.

I think it would be better if we left the original one as default, and then letting users configure it as they want, like proposed here: https://github.com/Vendicated/Vencord/pull/3867#issuecomment-3707090140

I'm having an issue where typing is extremely sluggish on Vesktop no matter what I do.

I heard something about aRPC checking /proc/ a lot so I disabled that and no change. I've disabled my theme and granted, it types slightly less slow but it feels like something must have changed with the workflow of the application because it wasn't typing that slow with a theme on, nor was it typing this slow without a theme either.

Only typing is sluggish, too. Everything else works great, themed or otherwise.

I'm on Fedora KDE 43, Wayland.

Any advice?

so, i have been looking through the known issues and also tried searching for the issue, but apparently i am the only one lol

my problem is that i cannot for some reason upload any file to channels, or dms. this is a big problem for me since i mostly use discord to mod games and send ideas and inspirations back and forth. i suspected it might be the anonymous file name plugin, but i disabled it and have not had any luck since either.

i can attach the file just fine but when sending i always get a "file cannot be empty" error. what might be wrong here? i am using the flatpak version on bazzite linux (gnome)

hello I have an issue with screenshare, my stream just becomes laggy/stuttery after 10 seconds on 720p 60 fps no matter whether I use Smoothness or Quality setting. On the official discord client I have sound issues as well (which Vesktop thankfully fixed, sound is perfect) but the other issues aren't resolved unfortunately. I also get "Stream failed to start" sometimes which I can only fix by disabling Hardware Acceleration in settings but all the other issues remain. I am on bazzite distro using KDE plasma. I have an RTX 3060 and intel i9-11900. My guess is that discord still uses cpu encoding instead of gpu on linux for Nvidia and that's why I can't get any acceptable stream quality. is there a way to change the streaming codec? (it says VP9 for me) perhaps that could help? Kind of out of ideas

i have several issues with streaming !! and idk if its vesktop or a lack of drivers

so umm streaming. whenever i've tried to screenshare a specific window it has always ended up streaming the audio to the rest of the desktop also ?

and theres no capture devices to choose from either
