Vesktop screenshare really doesn't work for me, it always loads infinitely for others and when I stop screensharing the entire app freezes and crashes. What should I do, and which should I choose between Discord from Arch's repo or Flatpak Discord if Vesktop cannot be fixed?

hey there, ive been trying to install vencord on pop os 24.04 with the cosmic de but im having some issues, first i see this setup popup (image 1) but i cant actually click on or change any of the settings or at the very least nothing visually changes

once i click submit i get this other screen (image 2) which i presume is expected behavior

and after loading for a little bit it just stays like this (image 3) a blank screen (sometimes with the usual discord gray) but nothing happens, i tried installing the deb package, the flatpak, the appimage and the tarball but all of them showed the same issue, does anyone know why this happens?

After about 2 hours trying to make vesktop run on bazzite (forcing wayland/forcing x11/trying flags/making distrobox of arc and trying to make it work there, repating with forcing wayland etc) I ran out of options. When I installed it as the first thing it worked, but then it just broke. Then I made another clean install and could not make it work. Am I missing something?

Discord / Vesktop refusing to load while using VPN on Linux

Discord started blocking Linux VPN users, for whatever reason.

You have two options:

1. Disable your VPN
2. Spoof your user agent to a windows one. This may trigger more captchas. You can do this by launching Vesktop via vesktop --user-agent-os windows.

i get flashbanged with a white screen for a few seconds every time i open vesktop, is there something i can do to fix this? multiple people (including myself) have asked about this issue before and have never gotten a response as far as i can tell

edit for future people with this problem: as i didnt get a response again (seriously why cant they answer this), i decided to do some poking around and discovered that disabling "splash theming" will prevent you from getting flashbanged

vesktop uses the Chromium alias in pavucontrol and so does my music streaming application tidal-hifi.
My screen recording software uses Pipewire as it's audio capture backend, but Pipewire thinks that both apps are called Chromium and thus captures them both under the same application audio capture.
Is there any way to make Pipewire recognize Vesktop as it's own application (by name) instead of just Chromium?
(Also if this is the wrong place to ask about this, I would be very happy to be pointed to the correct one)

I can confirm that the discord-ipc-0 is there, readable, executable and my XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is /run/user/1000.

I’ve had some issues with Discord Web in Vivaldi, my favorite browser, since I can’t open it in Gaming Mode. I decided to try Vesktop to look for alternatives, but it doesn’t launch either, and I have no idea why.

Hello everyone, I have a simple, but not quite so simple problem. I have an iMac17,1 and a custom-installed SSD. It is impossible for me to install macOS 12.x because it does not work even with all the patches, etc., so I installed macOS Big Sur (11.7.x). I can't use OpenCore Legacy Patcher to update to a newer macOS because I need a reliable system. Unfortunately, the new update has broken compatibility and I have to stay on the last version of Vesktop below 1.6.0, but I can't stop the auto-update process. How do I disable it? I can only find the button for Vencord. It would be really annoying to have to reinstall it every time I wanted to use Vesktop.

As I said, because of Apple's policy, if I want to update my operating system, I am forced to buy a new device. I don't want to do that. The device is not the problem. I wish I could update my OS easily without breaking compatibility or recognizing an SSD. And I wish not every software developer kneels to this doctrine and breaks the chains with older macOS versions.

Trust me we did not drop Mac v11 support just for the sake of it, it's just that Chromium and thus Electron did. If I could support old hardware I absolutely would, but unfortunately that't not possible for us

Im running the RPM version on Fedora 43 (KDE) and whenever I'm calling with some friends there seem to be audio glitches from time to time. I'm not quite sure what is causing the issue, but I only have it when Im using Vesktop.. It only seems to happen when looking at someones stream or when I'm sharing my screen

for additional info, i am on Fedora KDE 43, and i'm using the workaround to make Vesktop run on wayland, which could potentially be part of the issue. I've been checking over the past few days hoping to see if there was a fix, but there hasn't been. considering that there's a decent amount of people mentioning it, i must assume that it's not just on my machine, but wanted to check if this is more widespread overall before opening a github issue about it.

update for my early posting, I had an issue with screen sharing that was simply solved by using the flatpak. how does that work? is the sandboxed env better for some reason for these kinds of things?
my xdg portal itself was fine, and I can select any of my monitors! haven't tried any with rich presence at all since I expect that to be broke bc flatpak but a lot of messy bugs suddenly seem fixed so I'm stoked!
are there any known issues with the appimage? I didn't see any notices when I went to install the flatpak. I had a lot of visual jittering, messages visually disappearing unless I highlighted the text again, and occasional hard crash when entering a vc. Then there was the javascript EPIPE generic error when I tried to screenshare, and the error in discord console was that it failed to generate a response for the screenshare request. I could go and get the exact print outs if that's of interest to anyone

Hello everyone, I just joined the server to have a look if there are any known issues regarding a screenshare issue that I've observed yesterday, situation is as such:
On the regular discord client (including vencord's patcher) when screen sharing browser window or entire screen with video playback everything seems to be working fine;
When trying that same thing with Vesktop client, you can hear yourself through the other's person screenshare (basically an echo of yourself), *note this happens on either on specific window or entire screen sharing.
Has anyone else experienced such an occurrence or it being just me and my friend?>
We're both using High Definition Audio for drivers(not sure if that helps).

Hello, I just started using vesktop and got a question about the 'Discord Titlebar' setting. I currently got it set to on and expected it to use the default discord titlebar. Instead I'm getting one without the minimise, rescale and close options and its showing the OS controls above it. Is this intended behaviour or not? Also small thing, is it possible the change the taskbar icon Vesktop uses? My ahh a little bit autistic it turns out :(. If not ill prolly get used to it anyways. I'm having issues getting Vesktop on Linux to work with a VPN. I've been to the #1257025907625951423 forum post several times and followed the instructions to spoof the OS settings to get it to work, but it's not working. When I run the locate command in the terminal, I don't find /usr/share/applications/vesktop.desktop. I find /var/lib/flatpak/app/dev.vencord.Vesktop/... and /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications/dev.vencord.Vesktop.desktop. Editing both files in the text editor and adding vesktop --user-agent-os windows under Exec=/usr/bin/flatpak doesn't work for either of them. Am I not supposed to install Vesktop via the flathub store?

Here are the Vesktop files on my computer. Maybe I'm editing the wrong one, but I don't know which one is the right one.

Something strange about that titlebar setting, I had maxi/minimize, close buttons on my discord titlebar enabled by this setting only with the appimage. It went away when I started using the flatpak. I'm not sure which is intended!

it shouldnt matter if you use the flatpak or the appimage, the flatpak is built from the appimage

the native system titlebar only shows up if you have the custom discord one disabled, but like it says you have to fully restart vesktop for the change to apply

I had the window frame disabled in vencord settings, popped over to vesktop settings and lo and behold the titlebar setting there was unchecked

My friend in I both switched to vesktop (windows version). We both noticed a significant drop in audio quality in vc. Also when streaming, VC audio gets picked up by the stream and causes an echo for everyone viewing the stream. I've seen Pipewire-related solutions to this for linux and fixed it on my linux machine, but there doesn't seem to be a documented solution for windows. Any suggestions?

Hello, I am currently on Arch with Plasma-Wayland. I used Vesktop for quite a while, then I ran into an issue where my vesktop app would never fully finish loading because it would get past the actual loading screen and then just go all grey and never get past that. One yay -Rns and reinstalling some config files later and everything went fine. Earlier today, I was mid conversation when my Vesktop bricked and then needed to be terminated, only to run into the same bug I had forever ago. This time, total reinstalling doesn't work, neither does reinstalling electron. I get these errors when I run vesktop --enable-logging. Does anyone know what happened and what I can do to fix this? I can see that the errors are Wayland specific, but for whatever reason forcing it to run with XWayland doesn't seem to change anything.

It appears that fake nitro has some issues with webp(or user error), specifically it tries to give a .webp emoji the extention of .gif instead. I'm not quite sure if this is a caching issue exactly, but the initial gif returns nothing.

The first instance was what pressing the emoji by default gives. The interesting part of this is that fake nitro actually displays it correctly on my client, but when someone without it sees they don't see it at all, which makes sense because of the .json response I see when trying to visit the gif version. If I change it to .webp it properly embeds. Maybe do a periodic check to ensure the emoji uses .webp, or if the emoji changes to .webp, find a way to determine that the cached url is no longer valid, if you use a cache? Or do I have to erase a cache somewhere to get it to properly update? Not quite sure so I came here.

Discord started blocking Linux VPN users, for whatever reason.

You have two options:

1. Disable your VPN

Ok so as it turns out, trying to screenshare with audio forces the audio on for any subsequent screenshares within the call, wether audio is enabled or not. What it means is that i have to enable audio on screenshare, which fails the screenshare entirely, then do a default screenshare, which streams with audio

Kind of an odd process, but i can work with it until a more propper solution is found

It uses a lot more usage than usual Discord and it's really annoying to close the client during specific games

How can I have vesktop-1.6.1-1.fc43 utilise my desktop environment's font? On firefox-146.0-3.fc43, I've set font.name.monospace.x-western to what fc-match sans-serif returns. However, I presume that in Vesktop, a preference exists? (Otherwise, I presume I need to do something like :root { font-family: system-ui !important; } as a CSS3 override?) I ask for accessibility reasons.

this only started today, it's supposed to be dark but the active now tab is weirdly highlighted in some way and the discover / add server buttons are squared instead of round. it's got nothing to do with my custom css theme, i tried disabling it and it stayed the exact same.

vesktop has been being really buggy for me as of recent. Every so often it crashes and goes to a white screen that I can only fix by restarting the app. Also as of yesterday my mic just randomly stops working in call. If I go to audio testing and test the mic in the app it still works but the green circle won't light when I'm in call and no one can hear me?

Hey I installed Vesktop with the .deb package on Kubuntu 25.10 and it works fine on X11 but on Wayland Screenshare doesn't work at all

this has started happening to me. Idk how recent it is but it only happens on linux. I have vesktop installed on windows and it connects just fine on there. Regular stock discord also connects just fine on linux. Sometimes i manage to connect by relaunching vesktop and changing voice channel region but it becomes a hassle when you aren't the owner of the server

Hello, I suppose this is a client issue rather than Vencord's, but I can't get Discord RPC from vscode to work, specifically vscode, all other programs display the RPC correctly, but both extensions i tried, it didnt work. Maybe its rather a vscode extension issue? , but both extensions didnt work, which makes it a bit weirder tbf, i have vesktop from flatpak

update to this i guess. I have tried changing user agent to windows just like a why not however this hasn't solved the issue. Im unsure why but sometimes it only works to connect to a channel once. If i disconnect from that channel and attempt to connect to that channel again i get the DLTS Connecting issue again.

Fixed the DTLS stuff for me, it was caused by docker, stopping docker service allow me to connect to vesktop

Just did that on my end but still having the same issue, even after uninstalling Docker straight up plus a few reboots for good measure. It's still just Vesktop that has it too; not browser or other discord clients
