Having an issue with screen-sharing through Vesktop.

I'll click the screen share button, click any application (doesn't seem to matter), set the resolution/framerate settings (tried all of 'em, doesn't change anything) click "Go Live" and then... nothing. The window closes, and no stream happens. No error message appears, so I have no idea what's going on.

Running Vesktop v1.5.8 (Vencord 1ebd412), on a relatively recent install of Windows 10, if that helps.

I've searched around a bit and haven't been able to find anyone bring it up, but i've had a longstanding bug with screensharing where it'll work for about an hour or so and then eventually vesktop will silently partly crash, where it'll go to a grey screen (i'd assume this would be whatever color my theme was) and the icon is still in the tray, but the app is basically gone at that point until i close it and reopen, I'm no longer in whatever call I was in or screensharing or etc.
As I said this has been a little longstanding for me, has happened accross sway and hyprland and their respective compositors, my best guess is perhaps some issue with running out of vram as a complete shot in the dark but I have no evidence of anything really, my first assumption is to think its something more nebulous given I'm not on a particularly unique setup but haven't seen the issue be mentioned

Upon further inspection, it seems to be an issue with audio? Streaming without audio appears to work fine, and I noticed this in one of the debug windows

I just updated vesktop from the aur and after restarting it seems that there is no more blur on my transparent theme (it is still transparent)

actually it might be related to it somehow using X instead of wayland because it's blurry when i move it to my other display

Heya, I'm new here, and I'm very paranoid about the recent news of malware appearing in AUR
I might've installed vesktop through pacman or yay but I don't remember vividly

i was on vc when I opened minecraft

when I opened minecraft, initially, java's cpu was 200% and vesktop.bin was 60%

it went from 80 to 98%.

before minecraft was about to open, then vesktop had an audio glitch, and at that moment, vesktop peaked to 150%.

pipewire-pulse all along was taking up 3% of cpu and 30MB of RAM

this audio glitch is the trigger

no I have many applications open in macos sonoma and it's pretty much never heats up when opening vesktop but not on tahoe beta

and it even heats up when opening only vesktop

(and keep in mind I use macos tahoe beta, so it might be optimization issue)

I either use vesktop or vencord on web since I hate using vencord with discord client because I have to redownload it each update

on flatpak vesktop whenever i try to type chinese with rime through ibus it keeps tabbing out to the character selection tab but it works fine for any other app (including other flatpak apps)

Hey! I'm on Arch using the Vesktop client and it mostly works pretty well. One question that I have not been able to resolve is how when I stream for my friends I have to first select the application that I want to capture, then I have to select the sound source, and then I have to select the application I want to capture again two times more. That's 3 times in total. It's manageable but gets pretty annoying.

Is this not a common issue?

so ive just searched this channel and found no solutions to this issue... but linux native apps/games dont appear in vesktops RPC. at all. i use the .deb version of vesktop. proton and wine games show fine, but linux native ones do not. wouldve opened an issue on github but thats completely disabled and told me to come here. i did open an issue with ArRPC but since its built into vesktop now, with the actual ArRPC plugin removed from the plugin search thing, i doubt thatll go anywhere. second image is inscryption installed as linux native. it does get detected when run via proton instead. i DO have rich presense enabled in vesktop settings. this has persisted for over a year. rich presense on native discord does work.... mostly

Hey!, im having some problems trying to make the microphone work in vesktop, Im running linux 6.16.arch2-1,
linux-firmware 20250708-1. Using pipewire 1:1.4.7-1, with wireplumber 0.5.10-1.

Ive tried with vesktop, vesktop-bin, vesktop-electron & vesktop-git all from the aur. The apps recognizes the mircrophone, but it doesnt recieve any input while testing it. The thing is that, the microphone does works in the propietary discord, and the web app.

Go into voice settings, and and see if in the input & ouput option you have one that its something like "communications xxxxx" i had the same problem as you some time ago, and using that solved it

The way I see it is that you tried to include binaries in a package meant to be built from source, which is a big no no in the AUR, kicked the maintainer because of how he pointed it out, which was completely unnecessary and now you don't even have a direct channel/control of your own repo. UPDATE: I found the solution! It turns out these specific key combinations were already in use by the gnome desktop.
To fix this, I had to disable the conflicting shortcuts in gnome using dconf-editor. If you're using gnome, check your system's keybindings for conflicts.

Vesktop on bazzite / linux appears to randomly fail to properly input images and files. If I screenshot something and paste the image into discord, it sometimes shows this empty image.png. Sending the message with this image will delete the message content and not send anything.

Drag-n-drop'ing files also appears to fail this way. The only way I can send embedded images reliably (as I am typing right now) is to click the upload file button, save the screenshot, and manually go to the pictures folder and click the image file. Its mildy annoying.

Ran into an issue yesterday. Tried to stream PEAK, but the stream freezes when I have the game focused. Works fine when I tab out of the game. So basically un-usable. Swapped back to regular discord and it worked fine.

I'm running (non-flatpak) Vesktop under Linux, and can't detect flatpak steam games, even when I set xdg-run/discord-ipc-0 in flatseal. Games that run on Steam without proton isn't being detected either. The RPC itself seems to be working since Sober communicates with it perfectly.

Don’t know what happened but all of a sudden neither of those apps receive keyboard input even on refresh/restart

Hi! I've had a quick look to see if I can figure this out.. but with anything Linux there are a million answers 😭

I know screen sharing is quite glitch on the discord linux client, I downloaded Vesktop as I heard a few people saying this would fix multiple issues, not to mention I use vencord on windows anyway...

anyway tl;dr, everything works (for now), except screen sharing... I press on "share your screen", and nothing shows, am I missing a package or osmething?

In my experience that's just an issue that Flatpak Steam has and it's impossible to fix.

It's one of many reasons why using the Steam Flatpak is in fact a bad idea. Steam is already its own environment and adding the layer of Flatpak will break shit no matter what.

The Steam Flatpak is hard coded to open the RPC socket in a specific directory.

if I close and reopen vesktop after first launch it loads just fine

nvm, apparently it's an issue with plasma retreiving programs that were active when last logged out

if I actually turn on start with system it fixes the issue

Hey everybody, wanted to ask if anyone has experienced an issue on Vesktop where when in VC some users will, after like an hour or whatever of being able to hear them fine, will just not come through at all. like, no green bubble, but other people in the VC are talking to them and replying, and only after refreshing the client will you be able to hear that specific person again.
I'm on Fedora 42, using the native version of the app on PTB. Regular discord issue or something worth debugging on vesktop?

Client modifications are against Discord's Terms of Service.

However, Discord is pretty indifferent about them and there are no known cases of users getting banned for using client mods! So you should generally be fine as long as you don't use any plugins that implement abusive behaviour. But no worries, all inbuilt plugins are safe to use!

Regardless, if your account is very important to you and it getting disabled would be a disaster for you, you should probably not use any client mods (not exclusive to Vencord), just to be safe

Additionally, make sure not to post screenshots with Vencord in a server where you might get banned for it

make sure the right mic is actually selected in call, it's routed correctly in pipewire and it's not muted in pipewires settings

hey all, not sure if this is the right place but just had a quick question regarding streaming in vesktop on linux

i started using vesktop because streaming broke on the normal discord flatpak for some reason, and streaming in vesktop seems to work. however i noticed that despite me not enabling the fakenitro plugin in vencord settings, i'm still able to stream in 1440p+. and if i don't set the quality options above 720p, the stream appears unwatchable (far worse than normal 720p discord streaming). i'm already aware there are github tickets regarding that but it seemed upping the quality fixed it

is this the same thing as fakenitro, and is this always enabled on vesktop for linux? i'm pretty anxious about using fakenitro quality streaming, so i want to know if its any "safer" or if it somehow functions differently

i understand that technically all client mods are against tos, however i feel like you'd be less likely to get banned for just using normal client-side mods and not something like that which uses discord's bandwidth and is probably way more detectable

The official discord client worked fine for me since im on x11 but the quality kept degrading with time, switching to vesktop seemed to be a good idea but now i gotta choose either good quality or good frames never both -- which realistically is worse

Because I run windows, I have the normal discord client installed for the purposes of screen sharing, when I do, I close down the vesktop client. If I get pinged while the vesktop client is closed, it reopens automatically? Is there a setting I missed in the latest update or is this a bug

Vesktop has an issue where the screen sharing is blank. I tried all the regular troubleshooting. It works perfectly fine on regular vencord. Anyone who joins the stream tells me that it just loads infinitely. For me it is just a blank screen when I view my own stream.
