Hello, I'm trying to make screensharing hardware acceleration encoding working on linux
Setup is 9070xt+ryzen 5600, arch, Gnome wayland, xdg-desktop-portal, vesktop-bin using AUR

So far I managed to share something.
Static/textual content works perfectly, but as soon as I start a game, the video becomes both blurry and frames slow.

Using nvtop I can see that the gpu's encoder is somewhat used (shows around 6% enc/dec usage), although it may come from another software

Vesktop logs show nothing specific, discord's debug window shows no particular details except for low bitrate/resolution when streaming games.

Coming from an nvidia GPU, I never managed to get discord's screenshare hardware acceleration working correctly on Linux, although with my currently setup, I am able to use ffmpeg's vaapi encoder to transcode videos.

Any ideas?

I'm having an issue across all clients that implement venmic (including vesktop) where sharing any application audio shares everything, including the discord VC audio, no matter what devices I change or adjust. It only fixes if I disable all granular selection settings, enable speakers only and default speakers, and the microphone workaround

i havent tested yet which exact settings or combination fixes it but i know that combo works

even then sharing system audio will still share with my friends voices in it

this is on NixOS unstable, tried with vesktop, legcord, and goofcord

This is related to when the boost bar is visible on screen and is not a vesktop issue

The reason it may work on the discord app is either because the boost bar is not on screen or you are using canary, which has the fix already

It seems the "Start on Login" feature doesn't work for the Vesktop Flatpak on NixOS.

When enabled, it creates a desktop file at ~/.config/autostart/vesktop.desktop, but the Exec command it generates does not work.

I was able to fix this by changing the Exec line to the following:
Exec=flatpak run dev.vencord.Vesktop --start-minimized

After this change, Vesktop starts correctly on login.

It's happening an awfully lot, non-stop, where i am in a voice and suddenly I don't hear anyone and no one hears me, the activity indicators light up and everything, the soundboard works, but audio won't work until I disconnect and reconnect the vc

reverting back to 1.5.7 and it works normaly again.

i also tried without themes, settings etc. practically a clean portable install, but still crashes at startup.

Currently installed linux on my surface laptop and it uses a quite high DPI display, the issue which arises is the fact that all electron apps are very pixelated due to fautly scaling

vesktop 1.5.8 (or new electron) breaks hardware accelerated encoding that worked in 1.5.7 (stream attempts to load but crashes)

confirmed by disabling hardware encoding, stream works fine.

Other software can encode just fine. Checking chrome://gpu shows Hardware accelerated in both Decode and Encode.
I'm using an Intel Iris Xe with mesa 24.2.8, and VA-API. Running the native .deb package (linux mint)

On Fedora 39, attempting to stream on Vesktop causes everything to crash and I am booted back to the log-in screen for Fedora. I installed Vesktop via Software. However, since this is something that app developers can fix on their own, and given that Discord doesn't have this issue (since they likely added support for it, even in the Flatpak version and so on...), could you please consider adding these environment variables by default to support accents and dead key characters? GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus and QT_IM_MODULE=ibus on Vesktop, thanks!

I dont know why this happens, but sometimes my mic stopps working in VC's, but still works in settings.

I will talk in a VC normally and then my mic will just stop working, even after restarting vesktop or my pc. HOWEVER, if i go into settings to "Test Mic" or whatever its called, my mic works fine, so its just VC's. This does not happen in the stock discord client. The only fix i've found yet is to reset the app by deleting ~/.config/vesktop, but i'd rather not do that because its a pain recopying the theme and activating all my plugins and stuff.

However, Discord is pretty indifferent about them and there are no known cases of users getting banned for using client mods! So you should generally be fine as long as you don't use any plugins that implement abusive behaviour. But no worries, all inbuilt plugins are safe to use!

Regardless, if your account is very important to you and it getting disabled would be a disaster for you, you should probably not use any client mods (not exclusive to Vencord), just to be safe

Additionally, make sure not to post screenshots with Vencord in a server where you might get banned for it

i think electron can use fonts that are installed on your computer iirc

try installing them and using the name of the font

this is a very hacky way but it'll get the job done in the meantime

hey, i have a quick question about vesktop

i searched the server for any instances of --multi-instance since the official discord client has it, but vesktop itself seems to not have it.

when searching, i saw mentions of openasar which is something that tweaks the official client and has an option for multi instancing, but i wonder if openasar can be used with vesktop (probably not but worth asking lol)

i'm using linux mint 22 and i installed vesktop through flatpak.
