so if you re on windows its just better to stay on normal discord + vencord on top of it as vesktop wont give you any benefits

You need to change your entry thing. I'm severely nearsighted and need to have my screen zoomed a little to read it, and because the entry questionnaire thing is unscrollable, I couldn't get to the next button without changing my screen dimensions.

I'm on EndeavourOS w/ Wayland, running the AUR version of Vesktop. Everything works perfectly with one exception; screensharing has some finicky behaviours.  When I begin the stream, it works perfectly fine if you join immediatelly. Though after a certain amount of time after you try to join into the stream, it infinitely buffers but still gives audio to the listener. There's also the random full green screen but that's unique to like one person viewing the stream and its inconsistent. I'd just like to fix this because having to restart the stream every time someone wants to join is a bit tedious, and I'm unsure how to diagnose the issue. If I could get any help it'd be great.

I'm not sure what Mako is, though I would start by checking the discord settings. Make sure you don't have them disabled in discord. You can also run vesktop from the commandline to check for any errors

Having some really weird issues when it comes to screensharing, from my POV the stream looks fine, but from the pov of others, it kinda ends up deep frying itself.. Though from what i've noticed, screenshare works just fine on discord proper, so it seems like an issue with vesktop specifically.

Would be really nice if i could fix this, some plugins are really useful to have, volume booster specifically is very nice for those particular friends that cannot afford a proper microphone

issue: when i start a screenshare with audio, system-wide audio output cuts out entirely until i stop streaming, which immediately brings back audio output. occurs whether i'm streaming a window or entire screen.

notes: there is no issue when screensharing with audio disabled. mic input is uninterrupted when the issue occurs. when using the official discord client, screensharing with audio works normally. in windows sound settings, i have verified that "allow exclusive access to this device" is disabled for all relevant audio devices. pls help 🥲

Short answer, no

long answer, Vesktop screensharing on Windows isn't exactly the best because not a lot of time has been put into it, Vesktop is mainly a client for Linux, and because it doesn't have native modules, we have to do a lot of the work ourselves, it just hasn't been done on Windows yet, so screensharing is a lot worse

If this is a dealbreaker for you, you might want to try using the base discord app for screensharing

Or... if you know how to program, contribute!

I doubt this is a Vencord/Vesktop issue but does anyone know why streaming to Discord is completely fucked for people on the other end? I've been trying to figure this out for several months, with no answer or solution (Either nobody has had an answer for me or idk how to search for the problems I'm after a solution for). I'm on Arch Linux/KDE/Vesktop Flatpak/AMD/Wayland.
I've had the same issue for several months. I've made it a habit to just restart Vesktop every time anyone complains. Whenever my stream does work fine, all it takes is for the viewer to minimize my stream for it to break for them again. It's not limited to screen sharing, either: When I turn on my webcam, people who look at my video feed see similar "all-black" or "no-keyframe" or "Stream failed to start :(" results.

There is no fix. No dev has commented on this specific issue, from what I can find.

I just want to open Vesktop from my panel without opening terminal and running "cd Vesktop" and "pnpm start" every time.

(Building from source was the only way to get the rich presence work on Fedora it seems, Flatpak doesn't)

Arch Linux, KDE Plasma 6. During a call with Screen Share after some time the window goes blank (only gray background remains) and Discord stops responding. Nope. The stream is pixelated only for the first ~5 seconds, and then it is in full FPS and quality. The only remark is that all audio is in mono, which is a common issue for Vesktop (audio in voice channels is also in mono)

Btw, where did issues disappear from GitHub? My friend wrote about mono audio in voice channels (especially when some bot plays music) back on January 8th. Then the Issue was closed despite the fact that we provided evidence that there is no such thing in Firefox and Discord Canary. The only place where the sound is also in mono is Chrome, but since everything is fine in the official client, that means this problem can be fixed on Electron's side

Flatpak version doesnt let me drag files into it, it fails every time. Switched to the deb version and it doesn't have the problem. Both of them doesnt have linux screenaudio working at all whatsoever and I tried every setting and am on Mint 21.3 and CInnamon 6.0.4 which I think is X11 but might be wayland. been having this issue for a few weeks now on only my laptop (running the vesktop-bin from aur, but ive tried just vesktop as well) where after only a few seconds or sometimes minutes of using it just freezes. no buttons work, cant close it, clicking on the app tray icon and quitting doesnt work, and even running "killall vesktop" takes a good 15 seconds to kill it. running it in the terminal doesnt seem to show anything alarming, but i might be wrong.

hi chat, i'd like to repost my issue because it got swept up in random messages with no solution

1. After restarting the client, i get logged out of my accounts
2. After restart the pc, i get logged out of my accounts

I don't know what could be the cause. I'm using linux and the 1.5.6 AppImage version (currently). I used the native arch package before when the issue started.
I switched to the appimage in hopes that it would be fixed, but it wasn't.

Hello, I'm a user of ZorinOS 17.3 (based on Ubuntu 22.04) and I've encountered an error earlier, related to the fact that I can't open a built-in game called Daily Sudoku Together with Vesktop 1.5.6, it displays a white screen (but it's playable in the native Discord).

At the time of the problem I exported the chrome://gpu report file, and I found that the status of many graphics packages such as OpenGL was Disabled.

The solution was simple, since I installed Vesktop using Flatpak, I found dev.vencord.Vesktop.desktop in /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications and modified the contents of the exec line to read

I'm trying out Vesktop for the first time. I really like this little lightweight app. Much less janky than the official disco app.

But, I am having a bit of an issue.

I'm runnning SteamOS (Arch Linux)
I downloaded Vesktop from the Discover Store (So Flatpack, yeah?)

I've created this second discord account to test out streaming with audio...so I'm streaming a native linux game from my main account on my Deck @30fps 720p. On this account, when I click to view the stream, I instantly start hearing the game's audio...which is great...but it sits there "thinking" for about 5-10 seconds or so before it tells me:

Error:2012

Also, oddly, even while it's displaying this "Stream failed to start message", the game's audio is still coming through perfectly clear....just thought that was a little weird...

But anywho! Is there a workaround? I'd love to be able to stream some PS1/N64 games for the lads while I'm on the road for work.

there is no difference between Discord Desktop & Vesktop in how they load fonts because that's not how fonts work in electron

comparing to Brave makes little sense because Brave likely comes with its own built in fonts. try comparing to pure chromium (and make sure you're using it via native or flatpak, whichever one matches how you use vesktop)

if one app is flatpak and one isn't, that's most likely why the issue is happening. for example the font only works on native / flatpak and not the other

either way it's a system issue and not anything caused by Vesktop

vesktop keeps just freezing out of knowhere, i found out i think it happens when i get a notification but im not sure. ive been running it in a terminal and absolutely nothing is showing, so theres no errors there, but it just freezes. ctrl+c doesnt terminate it in the terminal, and doing killall vesktop takes like 20 seconds. i do get a hyprland notification that the application isnt responding though, so not sure if thats helpful at all.

trying to get vesktop rich presence to work, and it's not showing games outside of steam and i cant manually configure it or add games.
is it supposed to work flawlessly and im making a mistake or does it have known issues? for example it doesnt show dolphin at all

Sounds like we're asking the same question.

From my understanding gaming mode on SteamOS (Arch) uses wayland, while desktop mode uses X11.

Vesktop screensharing works fine in desktop mode, but in gaming mode when I share a game app or the full screen, all I get is a black screen...but you can see my mouse. Interestingly, though, if I share my Vesktop app window, you can actually see that just fine.

Are you experiencing similar behaviour?

I don't think we have the same issue, as my issue is that when I press the screenshare button, nothing happens. I did manage to fix it now since it was some silly issue with electron or something like that.

It will stream Darkwood....which is a steam game. The game I was trying before was a native Linux port of Majora's Mask (non-Steam)

First you need to make sure that you have
sudo pacman -S xdg-desktop-portal xdg-desktop-portal-gtk pipewire wireplumber installed, and they need to be running too. After that, I ran
cp /usr/share/applications/vesktop.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/, then I went into ~/.local/share/applications/vesktop.desktop and changed the Exec= line to Exec=/usr/bin/vesktop --enable-features=WebRTCPipeWireCapturer --ozone-platform-hint=auto %U.

after doing that I had to run vesktop through a terminal since it won't start through walker anymore but i'll figure that out some other time

I also notice that the game it does work with, "Darkwood" is a native Linux, Steam purchased game.

Another interesting bug is that whatever app I open first between the Darkwood/vesktop, once I open the second, I can no longer control the app I opened first with the controller inputs.

I think there are just too many quirks with the screen sharing right now. I'll just wait for further development.
