I'd originally mentioned this in here (#🏥-vencord-support-🏥 message) a while back, but since then I found out there is technically a way to mod the install to add third-party plugin compatibility but I have no clue how to navigate that sort of thing with CLI.

Is there a simplified guide for doing this for non-devs?

There's nothing related to this in #faq , the [pinned post](#1032200195582197831 message) in https://discord.com/channels/1015060230222131221/1032200195582197831⁠ only says to read the guide for how to install Vencord from CLI, and the GitHub page about the graphical installer makes no mention of the third-party compatibility option.

discord plugins are always based on a client mod, in this case vencord. vencord has built in plugins and also offers #1032200195582197831 . those are just vencord plugins that aren't integrated into the main client. adding plugins like BD plugins isn't possible since they are made for BD specifically, the only way to make it work is to rewrite the plugins functionality for vencord

what you asked for is adding a betterdiscord plugin to vencord, which is physically not possible. the metaphor the bot gives you means the following:
Technically, you can add a gas tank to a Tesla, though it would not be of any use. You can replace the motor, battery, measuring soft and hardware, add an exhaust and a bunch more stuff to make it work, though, in the end it is less work, cheaper and easier to just buy a gas powered car in the first place

using a betterdiscord plugin on vencord is possible, but only if you modify it so much, it would be easier to rewrite it entirely

Really not missing the overall BD experience given how much better Vencord is in general but having easier access to superscript and subscript with that one in particular was incredibly handy for helping clients (tutoring, not as in a UI lol).

Fwiw, it does seem kinda moot for the bot to redirect to the fr channel since that channel itself is in effect just a sticky note on a closed door saying "fuck off" lmao

OK, so if I'm understanding right, BD is made to handle javascript snippets injected into an already-running instance of (modded) Discord whereas Vencord plugins use regex (which I'm understanding to essentially be the programming equivalent to donating O- blood or what Esperanto wanted to be for spoken languages) that then gets parsed into whatever Vencord is natively built with; explains a lot about the stability and latency differences between BD and Ven

And also why the two are so vastly incompatible with one another

I think I'll stick with manually super- and sub- scripting polynomials and stochiometry; seems like in the long run it'll be less time consuming than learning all the necessary steps to writing and implementing my own custom plugin

From what I could gather, the raw js would have to be translated to the regex and then likely touched up after the fact, so for someone who does know how to work with both syntaxes, I could for sure see it being easier to just look over how the BD .js is doing its intended task and just writing it from scratch instead.

Seems similar enough to vectorizing a raster image based on edges, upscaling the vector, and recoloring it manually vs trying to simply upscale a raster image and fix the mess of artifacts and aliasing. I defionitely prefer the vector approach for cleanliness

Imagine every time you open discord they send you a book and this book has detailed instructions on how discord will work.

Vencord would directly change the words in this book. Whereas BetterDiscord would add a sticky note on top of the word they want to change.

Vencord is faster and lighter because it directly modifies the book, while BetterDiscord adds extra notes, making it slower and heavier because of the additional stuff you need to manage.

The reason why BetterDiscord plugins are not compatible with Vencord is that they follow different methods of making changes to Discord

If you are trying to use cloud integrations in the browser (specifically Firefox), it won't work due to CSP issues as the Vencord extension cannot correctly allow access to the API. There's no fix besides using a different browser or using the desktop clients.

This message is misleading. Run sudo chown -R "${USER}:wheel" /Applications/Discord.app in your terminal, then run the installer again afterwards.

You may also need to grant Terminal.app (and friends) full disk access for the operation to work properly.

Hello, I've been having a really strange issue lately when trying to install Vencord on my computer.

When I run the Vencord launcher, it says that "My discord install is broken", I did everything that the launcher requests [Deleting the Discord and Squirrel folders] but nothing has really helped.

I've always used custom Windows 10 installation for gaming purposes, but since I've updated to the build 19045.3633 Vencord doesn't hook on Discord like it used to do.

I've also tried to install Vencord using Powershell as the site recommends, the terminal says that it installed vencord and patched Discord correctly [Even the normal installer counts it as patched] but when I open Discord, it's like nothing changed

The official Discord Desktop app is very resource heavy compared to Discord in your Browser. There are multiple alternative Electron apps (ArmCord, WebCord, probably more) that prove how much of a performance gain you can gain by using a custom app. ArmCord already supports Vencord but makes it pretty limited for us. Making our own standalone app gives us much more control.

Hey there Ive done about as much searching as I can and troubleshooting but Vencord doesnt seem to popup on my Macbook once I install it through the installer. My discord settings just doesnt show it. I’ve tried repairing and whatnot as well but still doesn’t pop in my settings tab

My themes broke and now I can't open settings or disable them

open the dev tools with CTRL + Shift + i and click on the "console" tab at the top. Then paste and run (with enter) the following code.

It will

• disable custom css (you can turn it back on in Vencord Settings)
• copy your current theme links to your clipboard as a backup
• remove all themes

This is a stock Discord issue. There is nothing we can do

However, here are some solutions that should work:

• Many people have stated that opening devtools while Discord is still loading prevents the crashing
• Devtools work fine in Vencord's custom client, Vesktop, or just your web browser - you can use the Vencord browser extension
• It seems to be an issue exclusive to Windows. You could try switching to Linux
