I'd like to bring up about at least a couple of games, FFXVI and Elden Ring. They've been successful not only because of the sales and reviews, but also because of the fact that they are great quality and have been relatively free of controversy. Sadly, neither of those games are my taste in large part from the medieval European setting, and because my main preferred action genre tends to be online first person shooters.

Street Fighter 6 may be more my taste as a modern day fighting game, but again, I prefer online first person shooters - I've considered picking up Street Fighter 6 though because I'm not a fan of the creative direction of a lot of first person shooter games these days, which tend to be either battle royales, extraction shooters or team and objective based games. I would prefer something like Quake or Call of Duty, but more modernised and without the annual release schedule of the latter.

From what I've heard, even though crunch was induced for the development of games such as the Dark Souls trilogy and Elden Ring, the devs and publishers felt satisfied to take this sacrifice. For other games, there seemed to be a conflict of interest (to put it lightly), where many have felt the crunch was applied too often and excessively, and has been unjustified.

There's also the issue recently with games being delayed, and even despite those delays, entering early access or being released in a state that isn't playable for a lot of people. This is often the issue for a lot of games coming out in the west, notably such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Battlefield 2042. There's a bunch of smaller games too that have had the same or similar fate.

When the Endwalker expansion to FFXIV Online was delayed, the producer, Naoki Yoshida, cried. Not only is this something that's unprecedented in the games industry, but also within the more reserved Japanese culture too. Additionally, most controversies surrounding Square Enix do not apply to the Final Fantasy games that Yoshida is involved with, as far as I am aware.

My problem here is that my taste in games seems to suck because I prefer games that happen to have a lot of bullshit attached to them. I don't really know what to do here - I might have to move on beyond gaming but I'm not sure if this is something I would enjoy doing.

i'm kinda worried about the finals because it might go the way of titles like battlefield 2042, cyberpunk 2077, shatterline and world war 3. part of it may be because the devs seem to have a challenge that looks too great for them, especially with how they've had to delay the release date of the game and how people are still reporting performance issues in this second closed beta. i want the finals to succeed, or something to break the BR/extraction shooter/team objective shooter mold
