the chart i posted is literally the entire lifespan of the player base since the game went live. the game went from fairly balanced to the nonsense it is now. people play games to have fun. your idea of fun might not be the same as someone elses. it's objective. but what isn't objective is the amount of fun people were having until every single small update nuked their ability to have fun. therefore - drop in players. cause and effect. its pretty straightforward.

not sure how much i can help you then but make sure youre running exclusive fullscreen and you limit your fps to 60-70, avoid alt tabbing aswell
this is what fixed some of the performance issues introduced last update on my end and now the game runs fine (not as well as it used to before last update)

Heavies give me the problems in TDM with being so tanky... and the top 10 lights are bastards to play against with insta kill weapons mid dash whilst dashing over mines and never missing a shot at any angle... but usually I come out 4 or 5KD against most players

I played against lights getting 30+ kills a match in cashball even with near insta scoring from half way... 1HK backstab was brutal when players who crutched that used it against noobs... i'd be often just fighting lights to stop them farming my team

the main reason for the lack of playerbase, in my opinion, is because the game is simply difficult. matchmaking could put someone with 4 hours of playtime and 20 levels in a game with stacked players. It happens to me all the time, my full team of E1 lvl 100s is put with new players and expected to have a fair fight.

there isn't any easy weapon or playstyle, either. some are easier than others, but they all take an undeniable amount of skill and practice. most of the current playerbase is veteran players who stuck through the difficult starting period and actually learned the game.

I disagree almost entirely. It's cool that the devs post here, despite all of the nonsense they get asked about, but they are way too sanitized and opaque when it comes to discussing the game earnestly. They can claim to respond to feedback when implementing almost anything because people give limitless feedback.
