I dont think you are understanding me. The reason CL40 users dont take massive amounts of self damage normally is because the AOE is very small. You can avoid most of the damage with a quick sidestep at even medium ranges. If you want the CL40 to not be used in close qaurters, you need to buff the AOE to make it harder to avoid the maximum self damage.

While CL-40, goes down really quickly, making it unable to self damage unless you are kissing with enemy. Self damage is, just not working. This is my understanding of explosive damage itself

Maybe I'm defensive but.....I still think this is the problem; you'll most likely give only 75% damage to enemy in close range fight since hitting direct is kinda hard to moving people, and Embark removed that 75% limit, making it more effective even you are spamming. And....Yes I don't believe making self damage more is not worth it, 1.25x multiplier is already huge and most likely punishing bad player and unlucky moment....And for personally I don't believe getting close to CL-40 is not the right way to counter from first place. Probably It's just me thinking like that, but unless Embark does Another fucked up balance change like differenciate self damage radius and actual damage radius, ramping up CL-40 self damage will never work.
