Due to the population of this server consisting of many DCs, I'm not sure match ups for BLU would go well, like there's a high chance that when someone asks for help to get a skill or to run a certain dungeon/trials together, the people willing or can help might not be in the same DC as the person asking, and there might not be enough people around to help them

Imho I don't consider reshade a true mod since all it does is apply photo effects. Stating that keeping reshade to a minimum definitely implied that it is permitted, but I don't expect much from people who barely made it out of high school. Certain reshade effects do what gpose does, better. The request to keep them to a minimum is to make the contest fairer for PS4 players, yes, but it's also there so the judges can see what the hell you're wearing. Some people don't understand restraint.

On the contrary, imposing a slowmode will allow for people to have time to craft more intricate and thorough responses. If people were to have freeform discussions in here, the actual feedback can quickly get lost and become difficult for us to find. I've thought about this as an idea for a while, forgive me if it's been considered already or isn't a good idea etc, but I kinda feel like it could be helpful. Has it been thought of doing the opposite of a rant channel? Like, keep the rant channel of course, but also have a channel exclusively for the feelgood things of ffxiv, especially in regards to other players or actions of people in the community in general (since game features would maybe be mentioned repeatedly). A channel for posting things like really nice PUG groups helping each other and such. IK we could totally reasonably post that stuff in general chat, but speaking for myself (selfishly tbh), I'd want a channel like this so that I could go an read all the good things happening in the game, whenever I'm feeling deppressed about the state it's in or people in it etc- and it's hard to do that as-is. And I think it would act as a nice foil to balance out the rant channel, adding positivity. Mind, I definetly recognize I'm asking this mostly for myself, but I feel like others may want it but hadn't thought of it as an option, which is why I bring it up- if I thought I was the only one who could care about this I totally wouldn't mention it. Feel free too shoot this down immediately- I've kind of been nervous to bring it up in the event it sounded too selfish or dumb, but for the chance that it isn't I thought I'd throw it out here.

^, I kind of think that too while we're on the topic. I mean, rants has more (often negative) rants, and FFXIV discussion has less rants, but it does seem like, just from my short time here, they'd nearly be one in the same in a few months to a year. And if, in that event, we just got rid of the rants channel and let rants be in general, then the need for a more positive channel would be even greater
The other thing is, I have seen a not insignificant number of people say they believe FFXIV has one of the best communities around... But if I heard that as a new player and hopped strait in here without playing the game (since I have played the game this isnt the case), I'm pretty sure I'd think that was either a strait lie or a rememberance of the past or something
And it's not that I think this server is negative, just that a little push towards positivity (such as a channel purely for positive things) would balance the scales
I didn't want to voice all of that in detail without knowing if others agreed with the basic concept tho, since for all I knew it wasjust my view of things. (Sorry if I'm typing a little too much, but I'm really bad at pairing it down lol)

The merit of have a channel specifically for wholesome rants as opposed to negative ones is definitely there, but it also presents a good opportunity for those who see it as a lucrative opportunity to simply troll.

If you'll allow me to attempt a suggestion to fix that problem (it is technically your job, so I wouldn't want to intrude, but it's also my idea).
The easiest way to help prevent trolling- implement a slow mode. For the purposes of the channel, at least in my mind, this wouldn't be an issue;
It could be more like a gallery of all the good things that have happened.
Second, this could potentially push people to discuss any big positive things in general chat. Normally chat bleeding like that is a bad thing, but if the purpose of this would be to increase positivity everywhere but #rants , I'd think it a boon.
(All I have atm, but I'll try to think more on it)
A more extreme option could also be making it more likea contest- have people submit positive things to a mod(s), with evidence, and then the mods post it. The only way to react directly in chat would be to use emote reactions. This would be much more work tho, so perhaps it could be a once a month thing or something, though IO do think it could have a great impact
IMO, unlike rants or general discussion, positive things don't need nearly as direct, clear, and imediate feedback- the fact that it happened at all is feedback enough for the short term (general discussion again helps for anything else). Though, I'm far from an expert on this XD
TLDR- as long as this theoretical channel can elicit positive reactions in people, it would work IMO- and I don't mean reactions in the chat. All I'd think you need would be an IRL smile, an irl laugh, etc. even a bi-monthly event with like, 10 positive things on it would be a huge upgrade (to me, anyway)

Trolling is a possibility in any channel, I worried about it with #glamour-discussion but we haven't really seen that there. Even a small bit of feel good can go a long way in the dark times we all have to deal with currently, why not just see how it works. I believe it'll workout.

The glamour contest is a good idea. The rules was simple to understand and fair but I feel like there are better ways to make it a better experience for everyone participating:
- No theme is nice for the first run of the contest. But I feel a theme would be better next time. This encourages people to get out of their usual glamming habits and try to be creative to create something around a theme
- I feel the voting system is unfair and downvotes very much so discouraging. I feel like a scoring system in place would have been better based on different criterion to give feedback on what kinds of stuff the judges are looking for. Like for example based on Originality, Adherence to theme, Execution, Color combination etc.
- I'm not sure about this suggestion but maybe make a winner for a special awards or something. Like FFxiv redditcord's communities Vote (vote open to everyone here), most original glam, best combination.

① Someone suggested out No Reshade rule and I would support this to make it fairer for ps4 players
② Considering not every player might not use gpose often but still interested in joining the contest (or if they're new), maybe have a simple guide on how to take a good gpose photo?
③ I think it would be helpful to state in the rules on what criteria/standards you guys have for the glamour entries (ex. not using a full set, not using one color only)
④ If there are enough entries, maybe have a honorary category for glamours that didn't win but did good on one aspect? For example, "best color coordination" etc. While it's up to you guys if these categories deserve a reward as well, I think just praising what they did good at would help boost confidence and make up the effort they did in the glam

I'd like to add one, but it really depends on how much it gets used. We don't want to add a channel, see it get used for a little while, and then have it slowly die.
At the start of next month a few inactive channels will disappear and potentially be merged into others to reduce the overall bloat.

Re: Glamour Contest, this is a bit, sorry in advance. I also woke up 5 minutes ago so... yeah.
1 - As many have suggested, including other judges, remove the downvote system. When judging a lot of the "down" was more so not "this is bad" but "I'm indifferent on this." A lot of them weren't terrible but just weren't standing out.
2 - I mentioned themes in the judges chat, and it has been reiterated that future iterations would have themes, but in addition to this to play a bit on @eager stone's and @Refia's idea, categories should be apart of the main contest and compose the winners. This would make voting much more meaningful since it becomes "I vote for this because I like..." rather this "this glamour ok 👌."
3 - Gpose emotes and reshade (including the 5,583 flavors of it) should be banned. In a lot of cases the emotes and animations made it difficult to judge the glamour. This was a glamour contest and not a screenshot contest. With that said, I do think a screenshot contest is a good idea as I mentioned before. However it would need PS4 and PC entries seperated for fairness.
4 - Themes, I know we've said before but, I think they're important to reiterate. I did suggest a few that are a bit more original than just "cosplay characters" or "edgy shadowbringer". Things like "Night out in Limsa", "Ready for an adventure", "Date night". Additionally, like categories, I think there could be multiple themes in the contest and the player chooses which to submit to. The reason for not limiting to a single theme is to allow for players to pick a theme which best fits their character's apperance and personal strengths in glamour design. Not everyone for example is going to be like "oh Date night theme is for me and my character" while "ready for adventure" is more their theme.

I had thought about this as did another judge, but it didn't seem like a favored idea so it wasn't produced. However, I do think in the future this could be good but noting the restrictions I suggest on emotes, the main focus of it would be ensuring lighting- a common issue we noted: we couldn't see the glamours because it was too dark.
All in all I think a lot was learned from this first run. I think it was a fun experience to parttake in and look forward to the next.

The voting system will remain in contests, although the downvote function will be discarded due to it not being used appropriately. Voting will also be kept private due to the behavior of certain people after results were announced previously. We nearly had to issue warnings.
The next contest is tenuously planned to have a seasonal theme.
The Winner's Circle role is temporary. It will be surrendered at the end of the next contest and given to the new winners, so if you wanna keep it, you'll need to stay on top of your game.
A short list of things that got glamours discarded:
Mono-coloured glams were a big one. We get it, you like red. But it lacks creativity.
Wearing a full related gear set. That's just plain laziness.
Poor lighting and/or camera work. I can't judge your outfit if I can't see it, or it's too far from the camera.

Positive glam contest feedback!
- Generally, I think the contest was well-run. Most of the major negatives people had (like negative votes/no theme) are already being addressed.
- No/low reshade rule is great. I'd even go as far as to say that really obvious reshade should be an explicit negative/disqualification (there were a couple high-rated submissions that had that overly-shaded sort of pastel effect), but I recognize that that's pretty subjective. I liked the specific preset requirement in the original rules, and maybe going a bit looser but having one that's strongly suggested (or even a custom one posted in the contest rules) is a good move.
- Explicit focus on outfit over anything else. Yes, yes, yes! I was very pleasantly surprised by this, as the glam subreddit and eorzea collection are largely dominated by heavy shaders, dutch angle, can't even see what you're wearing. I don't think a restriction on where/what the background can be is necessary, but I do think this rule is absolutely essential for making it a glam contest and not a screenshot contest.
- Downvotes aside (and that's been taken care of), the judging method was good. Multiple winners, male and female categories, no horny, just upvote something if you love it. Honorary mentions would be cool to see, but I don't think they necessarily need to be stated up front. Like if someone makes an actually incredible mono-black glam, throw them a "Goes With Everything Award for a black outfit that actually impressed us" but don't encourage people to follow anything except the main theme.
- I also liked being able to see the general rating of every entry, and it gives people something to work off of. It's impossible to tell if you even got a second glace when the only feedback you get is if you won or not. But if that caused problems for some people, I understand why it might have to go.

Hello~ I found the role selection thing again today, and realized there were ones for the in-game roles, and I had only set my data center previously. So I tried to give myself the roles, and they all worked except caster. The caster reaction button isn't giving me the caster role. I don't get the notification from the kupo bot, nor do I get access to the caster lounge.

Love the idea of it! It's always fun to not only throw your own glamour ideas out there but also to see what others come up with. There are some incredibly creative and knowledgeable people out there with some amazing ideas.

Execution. My main suggestion is for the process of judging future events, and it touches on a couple of ideas that have already been raised: Criteria.
I think it would be very helpful to both judges and entrants to have a set list of criteria the submission will be judged on. That way everyone knows what they're being assessed on, and the judges have an easier time of judging.
As an example: originality, use of colour, cohesion and theme could all be rated on a 1-10 scale to give a total score. This also ties in with the idea of having category winners.

Rules. I think the rules were spot on - no mogstation and limited/no reshade (I'd probably lean towards no) makes it as even a playing field as possible. No horny glam I think should definitely stay a rule. GShade and backgrounds I have no skill or experience with, so I don't know enough to have an opinion either way.

Results. I actually like the idea of releasing the results so people can see how they went on each criteria and overall. Negative votes I think was the only reason it didn't go down well this time.

Feedback. This one I'm not sure is even feasible given the number of submissions. I know my glamour skills personally are abysmal, so if there is the capacity for feedback while judging each entry that would help to raise the bar in each successive event. At the same time I know that the judges are all volunteering their time as it is, so I doubt this is possible.

I definitely think we will be touching on all of those points in the future. The format of having to give a negative vote to most things that arguably werent that bad left a sour taste for many people.
Personally I can attest that I didn't dislike any of the posts. But I gave negative marks for things like poor photo composition/ uninspired sets/ weapons covering the armor etc etc.
I do think a standardized reshade preset decided as a community or having it outright banned would be fair for the most people.
Maybe we can get a primer together on how to take good images so submissions have a better chance. Plenty of info out there on eorzea collection and gposers for example.
Btw I'm using "we" loosely. Not all the staff wants to be involved and im sure more community members will be rotated in and out so we get fresh perspectives.
Overall I think it was a very fun event and I enjoyed myself. I look forward to the next one either as a participant or a judge

Discord has some safety guidelines (https://discord.com/safety/360043857751-Four-steps-to-a-super-safe-account) which I would recommend following. Setting up 2FA at the very least should keep you safe from a lot of basic scams

That's not really a thing we'd do, and there isn't really much interest in it here either, as we're more of a community discord and it's primarly the Balance discord that focuses on teaching job basics and optimization. A lot, if not all, of job resource channels there have visual/video resources you can look at as well as a lot of experienced job mentors/helpers that can answer job specific questions that you feel are beyond the scope of #questions-and-help or the new player mentors here.

We’re trying to slowly move away from the “go to the Balance” reasoning. We aren’t going to like completely try and jump in their space and we aren’t there yet. But eventually I would like to have this server be a better space for intermediate and above players. Currently we serve new players very well I think and it’s only natural we try and expand that a bit upwards in skill levels.
So: you could ask balance mentors for those for now and they could be added to Kupo FAQs possibly but one day I do want this server to be able to provide that kind of information naturally.

Can we honestly talk about the 'fake' modding that goes on, especially in #questions-and-help
like, I acknowledge sometimes i'm guilty of letting a question /answer turn into a discussion, but a lot of the time it's within a reasonable limit of short discourse for what can/should follow a question and an answer, and the amount of people who literally aren't mods in there that'll interrupt with tagging #general-discussion is frankly annoying and essentially a derailment, and also nearly always happens when there's not even other questions being asked simultaneously to be getting in the way of. Put simply, it's starting to disincentivize me from wanting to participate there both asking and answering questions and the less people who want to answer, the less effective the channel is as a resource for people.
Am I the only one who feels this way or what?

If someone is backseat moderating, as in they are unreasonably instructing others to do something or otherwise behaving like a moderator when they aren't, let us know and mention the mod role (or DM us).
To be frank, that channel is strictly for questions and help regarding FFXIV. When a question turns into a lengthy conversation about something that may or may not have any relation to any previous question or request for help with FFXIV, i.e. an unreasonable amount of discourse, it's time to move to a more appropriate channel. It's off-putting to others that are probably waiting patiently to ask something without interrupting, and detrimental to the overall health and focus of the channel, especially when a lot of users are active within the server/channel and questions are being answered at lightning fast speeds.
Similarly, it's off-putting and irritating to link to other channels with the not-so-subtle hint that the discussion should be moved elsewhere. It's appropriate when it's obvious a discussion has gone on for too long; helping us keep the channels healthy for others is great. But otherwise, please don't do that.

Seems to be an interesting behavior with Kupo Bot regarding actions that require a resource that is not MP. Ninjutsu say (496 None), Afflatus Solace says (1 None), Foul says (1 None), Hissatsu: Kaiten says (20 None), etc. Aetherflow abilities also similarly cost 1 None. Just for some examples I happened to find. Not a huge deal but not sure if known so wanted to mention (especially with regards to ninjutsu since 496 is a bit of an odd one)

Personally I'm a little on the fence, on the grounds it feels unnecessary outside of picking up really minor details on armor.
To clarify:
I'm not saying it's unfair, so to speak, as basically anyone can do it with very little effort
More it's just flat-out unneeded, as it only gives very tiny gain in the end. Like the amount of extra detail you're going to be adding in like that can be summed up as basically a few extra pixels. It's an unnecessary amount of work that isn't going to change much. Save yourself the time; I wouldn't consider it worth it.

Should be fine to ask about shaders. Most people openly use them. Do so at your own risk. They are against TOS.

Because it’s directly tied to FC authentication which needs to be done in a server.

There is no easy way to find a proper FC without joining a bunch and finding which one works, and what works for one play might not work for another, so its difficult to make a one size fits all guide. If people are looking for a specific type of FC, they can use the recruitment channels here or on other servers, or use the subreddit

You can't do that through the Lodestone. The lodestone is purely for seeing other FCs and their ranking for the most part. You'd have to find one of the FC members in-game or go to their house (if they have one) to send in an application.
