You only need to be on the same Data Centre to do content with friends.
Generally for "Savage tier" content people will indeed join a "static", just a group of 8 that go every week (Free Companies are our guilds and can either be related or unrelated to hardest content, either way. Not like WoW where your guild matters).

You can do Savage in random Party Finders of course freely, it just may be a little harder / take a little longer. The tier below that, "Extreme Trials", are actually a bit easier to do in Party Finder, a static helps for those but you dont need to think about getting one if you want to attempt it.

Yeah sorry just edited the first post to clarify, but indeed FFXIV Free Companies go either way. Can be totally unrelated to raiding because MANY Free Companies are just for social aspect. In game housing, FC Buffs, chat channel, stuff like that. You dont need an FC but it sure helps to have one anyways.

If you dye the item inside of the dresser, it will be that colour when you put it on the plate and apply the plate to your gear. You can always dye the plate itself if you wanna change it from the colour you originally dyed it. Generally recommended to dye the item itself if you're using expensive dyes (i.e jet black/pure white). @sullen zephyr

Cross-world Parties let you group up across servers, Cross-world Linkshells let you chat across servers, and you can always World Visit Odin and walk around there anytime (Just cant chat to your own guild or use your retainers while over there). Up to you if you wanna home world transfer for the $18 USD

'What is Glamour and how do I unlock it?'

Glamour is the process of changing an equipment's look into a different item with the use of Glamour Prisms. You can unlock the ability to glamour by doing the level 15 quests 'If I Had a Glamour' in Vesper Bay, West Thanalan. Although not required, you can unlock the ability to dye gear with the nearby quest 'Color Your World'. You can get the Orange Juice needed by talking to the nearby Merchant & Mender. Items used for glamouring are not lost upon use.

'How do I glamour? Where do I get more Prisms?'

Glamouring is done by right-clicking (Square or X on controllers) on the equipment you want to glamour and choosing the option 'Cast Glamour'. After clicking this you choose the item you want the appearance on the right half of the menu that opened up. You can get more Glamour Prisms by either crafting them after completing the quest 'Absolutely Glamourous', buying them from your Grand Company Quartermaster, or buying them from the marketboard.

Sorry - I think you can still trade yeah. You might have old information about transfers, you cant transfer to a Congested server but we dont have those at the moment (strangely enough) so a transfer should work if you decide to do one.

I have a noob question. Is it better to have rarer armor/weapons than common weapons if they are weaker? (example: white/common weapon with a damage of 76 vs a blue/rare weapon with a damage of 60. Item level, bonus stats, materia slots and what not are all better on the common weapon as well.

I'm essentially trying to figure out what makes a weapon or armor better than the others in terms of rarity... besides the fact that they are more rare.

Theres a few points, they are just side content in this game but its really up to what you want to get out of them.
Craft your own gear, repair your own gear or meld your own materia, use them as a gil maker if you want lots of profits.
Ishgard Restoration, Collectables, theres tons of DoH/L content to unlock but its all specific to them - Combat and Professions are like two seperate worlds. You might have to be more specific if theres something deeper you wanna know, but just remember they're optional and they reward you for the effort you put in. Some people craft 8 hours a day, some people never unlock a single profession in their life - and anything in between is A-OK

Generally Armorer and Blacksmith are the ones for tank weapon and gear, but you should know that if you plan to craft - professions arent "Self-sufficient".
If you level Armorer but you dont level Leatherworker, Miner, Alchemist, Blacksmith, Golsmith... etc. etc., at around level 30/40 you'll be saying "I'm missing the Leather, Glue, Ore and Gems I need to make XXXX Armor... what do I do?" And you'll either have to buy the materials from the marketboard with your own gil (if not on free trial), or you'll have to bite the bullet and level all the rest of your crafters and gatherers.
But in no way does this mean you NEED to level them all, its just something to consider if you want to get into it more heavily to make the cool stuff at level 50 and above!

Anything you can craft yourself for transmog, you can buy on the Market Board so dont worry about having to level something just for glamour, you can always buy something you like too!

Weapons are given by the job quest until certain level, then you can get good equipments by trading your poetics (from doing dungeon roulettes) to certain vendors in certain places. As for fashion you can get good looking items from dungeon, or market board if you don't wanna be bothered with crafting/gathering classes

1. If you buy a story skip you pretty much need to buy a level skip as well.

2. Level skip is to 70, so youll be missing out on all the class quests which not only have good story, but teach you how to play your class.

3. Missing out on the story is like missing 65%+ of the fun you will get from the game.

4. You will have to go around and do a whole bunch of unlocking that would have been more convenient while you were doing the MSQ unlocks.

So if you main Paladin for example, make one of them a Paladin too so they can maximize levels.

Foolproof way to download is to use cellular data. Depending on where you are in the world, there’s a lot of network issues when downloading the patch for some reason.

This persist regardless of the USB-Micro cord* I use, USB slot on my PC, or controller I use.
