Hi gus, I ahve a question about performance : Is Shadowbringer more demanding than FF14 ARR, or did they just get better at optimizing the code/game engine and better artistically environment etc ? Skill Speed melding depends on how fast you want your overall GCD to be. I'd go look at a melding guide for samurai to walk you through it, personally, because it comes down to how comfortable you are with your own rotation at 80, along with what your party's general GDC rotation is so you can fit your high damage inside the burst windows

but typically we DPS favor Crit > Direct Hit > Determination, and meld Skill Speed to get the GCD we want

I ALSO wouldn't worry about it too much until you hit max level and start optimising

because materia below 7 and 8 are ass

I don't quite understand the question. If you add materia and the value is less than the distance to the cap, you're fine. If you have, say, 20 points of room left and you meld a +60 materia, you've wasted 40 points and should meld other things

How do I unlock melding?

Complete Forging the Spirit (materia extract/npc melding) and Waking the Spirit (player melding) in Central Thanalan.

How can I get my gear melded?

To meld visible Materia slots a NPC melder in any major city will do (marked with a Blue Materia icon on the map). To overmeld gear you'll need to request another player to meld your gear or to do it yourself.

Why can't I meld this Materia to my stuff?

Every Tier of Materia has a minimum item level requirement that gear must meet to allow melding of that Tier. Tier 6 Materia requires an item level of 290 while Tiers 7 and 8 require an item level of 420.

Why is my meld giving +0 stats?

Every item has a maximum amount of stats that can be given through melding and the natural stats found on the gear. This can be seen at the bottom of the Materia Melding menu, as seen in the picture below.

The secondary stat with a higher number is already at the cap and cannot be further melded.

4. Different jobs have different SSS dps requirements

7. Certain jobs gain dps by having additional party members like Dancer/Monk
