Dont consider it as mattering, since your starting class means nothing - you can unlock other jobs and you can do it quite quickly after you start, too! (Unless it matters to you for roleplay reasons ofc)

I think the best option here is a "good healer", one that can dish out hardcore damage while healing the minimum amount they have to*. DPS are like fish in a barrel, but a healer is always needed and a good, __damaging __healer I think is -the most desirable thing- for a raid group because these can be diamonds in the rough. Maybe that helps?

You can check "The Balance", thats the FFXIV group based around hardcore, high-technicality for Healing, tanking and doing damage.
But yeah obvioulsy the best Black Mage will beat the best Bard because thats how the class is designed - but desirability for Black Mage would still be "lower" in our case because its too selfish, no raid buffs. Either way you wont find a different answer in "the balance", but thats your next stop anyways I think

I dont think its overly complicated - if you sync down to 20, they just have some calulator that flatters your level 80 chest piece to "Whatever a high quality chest piece we deem would be at level 20". Just pretends its item level 20 while you're in the dungeon, you know?

You get different rewards for job vs. GC hunting logs, IIRC. Job logs give you specific seals (e.g., Storm Seals), whereas GC logs give you Allied Seals. They can be used for different purposes. Dunno if that matters to you.

Totally, rotations are where the true theorycrafting has meaning, theres a LOT of juice to be squeezed in that area specifically. Thats part of what "The Balance" is all about so i definitely recommend it

Yeah basically, if you're level 60 and I'm level 80 and we both end up in a 50 Trial, we pretty much end up with the same gear/item level while we're in there, you know?
I'm sure its a bit different but not by enough to matter (2% or smth)

@unreal creek FFLogs might be a good site to see how classes are doing on different fights. You can sort by aDPS, which is the personal damage a job does, and rDPS, which is the amount of damage it brings to a raid, with rDPS being the most important, especially for jobs like Dancer, which is more about giving buffs.
