I'm a Junior DevOps engineer with experience in software delivery, CI/CD pipelines, and some exposure to cloud environments. I'm now planning a transition into offensive security, specifically penetration testing.

I already have a good understanding of infrastructure and application lifecycles, but my hands-on experience with security testing is still limited to basic practices (e.g., pipeline security and general hardening).

I'm currently considering platforms like Hack The Box to build practical skills and some books that I'm finding online, but I'd like to validate whether that's the most effective path given my background.

If you can get a subscription to the academy i think its worth it and could help get you where you want to go.
As far as pentesting - pick an area that you like and learn that (ad hacking, web exploitation etc) and once your ready move to the next topic. Look at jobs in your area too and see what they are looking for skillset wise as well if you have a difficult time picking one

hey guys actually i studies some soc analyst basics and learned tools like splunk , wazuh and wireshark
have free cisco certified cybersec analyst cert and background from btech cs
made a sinhle linux based project named nethawk which scans network , smb , dns etc etc , also have some full stack projects
i just tried to apply for soc l1 role with this much in my resume
first i didnt got much response
lated i visited the office so they have to take my intervie so they cheacked my resume and took my interview in which i atkeast did well , like i was cleared with network basic , attacks , mitre framework

so he suggested me 3 months unpaid internship
and said he will forward my resume to director and after that i can join
but later i found out that he havent submitted my resume to director , as i dm him
now i dont know what happend
i got rejected or he forgot
should i try again and how

3. Tried nmap - didn't work

5. The website lists the server as active
6. I changed the OVPN config servers, but still the same outcome

The VPN did work with the previous box, so I have no idea why it's not working on this one.

Gotcha. Getting into soc without IT exp (as a job) is not unheard of but thats how I moved throughout the field.
From a quick glance i see potential. If you can do a few networking projects and maybe even setup a wazuh server showing SEIM exp it helps a ton (on top of your certs) It may just be location if your struggling to get into a job it could also be just the market - currently they want more SR people to fill roles in my direct area so that effects me where ive only be in the SOC for a yr.

Also Network with local people - go to meetups and attend webinars if you can. make sure to document projects and show passion

Did you try to reset it a few times 3times with a power button, until it will go into a recovery mode? In the recovery mode, you go to troubleshoot> advanced option> startup repair. If your its not working - uninstall updates ( you should know where, check also feature updates). Then go into safe mode > advanced option> startup settings> restart - press F4 > if you get in open command prompt as Admin and run sfc /scannow and dism /online/ cleanup-image /restorehealth. But also in your settings - pause updates for now. Restart your computer and see if its working now normally

No OS is illegal to run unless you’re breaching a license or ToS, or the software inside of it is banned in your country (I’ve never heard of software being banned, though, except for like in China and stuff).
