NEED SOME GUIDANCE

I am currently Majoring in CYBERSECURITY at Purdue University being an International Student (FRESHMEN). Which more IT focused with hands on labs as it is under the Polytechnic College.

The Course has:

• Less theory

• Less Math and Algorithms

• Also less Programming.

I was really confused with the course as it was less theoretical, I really like programming and also math, thats why I was planning to Change my degree to CS (security track: which more of writting secure code). All the good research in our UNIVERSITY for security, is done under the CS department. Also, the CTF team of ours is led by CS Students.

As of now, Changing to CS in purdue is really hard as it is always full.

MY GOAL: Really wanna do good at Cyber, so that I can get into malware analysis and roles where you have to read codes. A systems red teamer, then want to level up as an Red Team Led. Thats why wanted the CS background of Maths, Algorithm and Problem solving skills.

Now, I really want some advice. According to my degree, are my goals plausible and if yes what should i do and focus on currently staying in CYBERSECURITY to build that CORE LEVEL FUNDAMENTALS OF PROBLEM SOLVING FROM A CYBERSECURITY PERSPECTIVE. I also own and run small business so I also have that Security Consulting Business knowledge requirements that firms look for.

OR,

I should try hard and raise my GPA to shift to CS at all cost and proceed from there in the security track, doing certs and ctfs? CS is rigorous and I think I will get any time to do the certs.

I just wanna really want to know what would be best for me to shine in CYBERSECURITY, both as a hardcore guy who can code and problem solve, find vulnerabilities by twinking with the code. and also have the IT knowledge thats needed in cyber.

I just dont wanna sit in the SOC analyst room and wait for an anomaly to show up. I wanna build, research, break and serve. security.

obviously there are more advanced implementations, but you need to have a fluent understanding of the language you are writing in, to prevent bugs, and a strong understanding of how the trading market works

if you’ve never traded before or have never had a trading strategy, you are guaranteed to lose your money

Im very confused. I was just watching a youtube video when youtube went down. Confused, I went to search on Google, which also didn't work. • then, establish a foundation on security (pick CC or Sec+ for this. you don't have to settle for an exam unless you need a particular certification in your resume, but gaining the knowledge should be the important part)

• build your own lab to practice the concepts you learn in security (say you learned about hashing, go ahead and hash a text or a file and see how the output differs with slight changes, understand why it exists and what makes it secure and reliable..) and it's always good to search for home-lab ideas and security projects

• keep a github repo of projects and blog/write-ups of every lab/ctf/module... you do, documenting your journey is a clear evidence of your commitment and demonstration of your abilities.

• follow cybersec news and watch documentaries on past incidents, engage with the community through sharing, support, and contribution, adapt to changes and be able to research and operate on your own

• understand the business impact of cyber attacks and how good cybersecurity helps ensure business continuity, which explains its importance and high-demand

• don't just be technical, but also strategic in your approaches to security

Ubuntu booting help needed for Asus tuf a15 laptop.

Setup:
Usb-c cable attached to an SSD which contains ubuntu

In asus tuf bios settings:
Disabled fast boot
Disabled secure boot
Checked usb configuration for allowing mass storage attachment

Getting PPM init failed (-110) error after which laptop freezes and nothing happens

HTB has more for red teaming.

Paying is a convenience thing, as they package up the information, and give test scenarios to help learn about those concepts, which you could learn without the platforms as well. Both offer a decent amount of free access to information, as well as extra features or access to information about more deeper subjects.

Tryhackme has more beginner information, where hackthebox will have more advanced information.

If you have the money to spend on learning, then something that may be worth it instead is to start investing in a homelab, where you can test the concepts that you learn, and be able to test your own theories/concepts out on VMs. You won't need this to start off(Tryhackme is good enough for that), but if people learn from mistakes, then having an environment to make as many mistakes as you can as quickly as you can will help you learn faster.

Use Argon2 as your encryption mechanism! I have my own password manager for years, and it works fantastic. I also gave the db file and cred file to hackers to crack it (by setting the master password as a temp and putting temp data in it) and they were not able to.

It also have a fail safe feature that if someone tries to tamper with those files, then the data within the password manager will get corrupted (unreadable), so even if someone somehow found a way to mess with files and break in, he won't get anything.
