second of all, yes mostly hackers aim for things with a bigger exploit ground

and something thats useful to them too

receiving a phone number is almost uiseless if youre lets saytrying to take over a persons bank account because their phone willk not be the only thing where they will receive updates or authorization

like yes you could technically connect everything together and hope that they have authorization on their phone only or that you can get into their email just from having the phone number but thats unlikely

meaning youll be halfway through, almost hack whatever youre trynna get from them, and then itll ask for authorization on a part of thing that they own and youre unable to hack

Yes. Most common is someone who already knows about IT or Application Development, who has been on the side of working with people to try and protect their stuff, that take what they learn, and expand it into "If I were bad, how would I get into this network" or whatever.
Learning this to better secure your own stuff becomes a job in itself, hence, a cybersecurity specialist.

Yes.. pfSense can handle 7000 users for a captive portal setup.... Make Sure your pfSense machine has adequate CPU power and RAM. For high user count..
A multi-core processor (at least 8 cores recommended) and at least 16 G of Ram
Fast storage (preferably SSD) for better performance
and There is BandWIdth Requirements.. 7000 users You Might face high traffic.
and Make Sure LDAP server can handle requests from all users.
I would Recommend
start with a powerful single pfSense instance, monitor its performance, and plan to implement smaller firewalls if it becomes a bottleneck..

but if you have Heavy usage, placing pfSense instances in each hostel to provide better performance would be a better idea..

Hello guys, need some advice regarding my job.
Context:
For the past 7 months I'm interning at a security consultancy firm and I'm a Pentester there.
As I'm from a CS background, I find the idea of coding/hacking and cybersecurity as fun(in my mind atleast).

But the management in that firm is not very supportive, infact they've been exploiting us by underpaying us and giving lots of work by saying that we are still students and intern,etc(I have 4 more months to complete my UG in CSE)

So maybe because of that and other reason like competing with my coworker about who finds more bugs, missing a bug/false positive is treated with a meeting with our head, and thus I find pentesting very stressful, boring and I don't want to do it as a profession

The only reason I haven't quit yet is because of the potential of cybersecurity is high.

So I finally decided to think whether to leave cybersecurity or just push through for the 2 year contract period and look for a better job related to cybersecurity in other company

I'm lost and confused and it would be a great help if someone who is a professional in this field can just give me some advice.

I’m troubleshooting a ZOSI analog DVR system (BNC cameras). The DVR boots and displays video output to the monitor, but every channel shows “Video Loss.”

In the Network menu, the DVR shows:

IP Address: 192.168.1.213 (DHCP)

Subnet/Gateway match my LAN correctly

Network Status: Unconnected

LAN port LEDs are (state whether ON/OFF here)
→ So the DVR appears to have network config, but no actual link to the router.

I suspect the camera power supply or splitter may be dead — checking tomorrow.

Need to confirm whether the issue is camera power loss vs. DVR video format mismatch (AHD/TVI/CVI) vs. network port failure.

On ZOSI DVRs, does Network Status = Unconnected directly indicate the LAN port has no physical link, even if DHCP info is present?

Is there a reliable way on this model to force the DVR to rescan / renegotiate the video signal format for all camera channels?

I am overwhelmed with options and where to start with. All I know is to look for x86 hardware for better configuration. I just want to learn from what big companies have on my own smaller home version — everything from sending and analyzing packets, filtering them through a firewall, setting up a NAS etc

You have essentially two options.. run a lab on your machine with enough ram and threads - or if you are new to this and don't want to invest a lot, get some mini-pc you can upgrade to at least 16 (better 32 GB) RAM, put proxmox on there, and run your VMs there

Thank you. I got one Office laptop - Mac and one for practical purposes with kali etc.
I am interested to fully set everything up so just buying a NAS where everything is set up already is not what I want. I already found out about thin clients but I maybe am already to stupid to understand the whole set up. I will now dive into my work for the 100 days challenge and will later research more but basically in my head I thought I can buy hardware, configure it to connect with my network, also add switches and other hw for more learning by doing, use that hardware as a router as well, later as a NAS etc

We are not talking about a NAS, just for example a Thinkcentre M920 - they go rather cheap refurbished/used, and something like a 1-2 TB ssd in there and you are good to go
