So, I was using hydra to test web login bruteforce attack on testphp.vulnweb.com/login.php and I have some confusions regarding how hydra is working.
I would recommend to quickly try it yourself cuz I am a bad explainer.
Image 1: this is what an invalid attempt looks like, the website just resets all the fields and nothing like "login failed" is displayed in html response.
Confusion 1: In situations like these what do you put in hydra at place of failed attempt?

While searching for a job, I'd highly recommend taking the time to work on projects to add to your GitHub. It will act as a portfolio for your code and coding abilities.

so about solo work it would include

• signing and agreeing to a contract
• clarifying the rules of engagement to be able to understand what i can and cannot and can do within the network
• assessing the network, using tools like wireshark (being one of the only tools that stays useful) everything else i just code depending on what i need to achieve. what type of firewall to attempt to evade, what goal to perform, etc.
  then for teamwork (which i dont really enjoy because im again, not doing full time, and teamwork is better when you actually know what your collegues are capable of) would include pretty much all the same except for also having to make a cyber kill chain (a full scale plan/operation of what tools to use, who does what, what to target and when, exact dates and so on)

for skills, you need a good understanding of networking, including the theory. once you learn how to build something, youll learn how to break it too.

as serkonian has already said, new-member-guide is a great way to start

tryhackme has some really basic networking concepts to get you into the field, hackthebox has some too which are a bit more complicated

Imo best way to get good with networking is to mess around with it. There are good courses about it, but I suggest trying everything out practically, configuring things and building things yourself as well.

ParrotOS requires you to finalize the download to get out of the test mode or whatever they call it. There should be an icon on the homescreen called "Install Parrot" execute it and you should be all good.

Add yourself as a customer, trigger an email send, see where the email lands. If it lands in spam, look at the email headers to see which rule is causing it to do so

I'm a software engineer by background and trade for most of my adult life, but security has always been there in the background, either as a hobby, neccesity or otherwise. If you've development experience, it really does help with migrating to security, as it allows you to put yourself in to the mind of an engineer more easily, assume logic when testing, know some common patterns.

As for whether you should switch, end of the day it comes down to what you want to do. There is a demand in both fields, and that demand will not go away for quite some time, if ever.

Yes, AI will impact both, but the human touch will always be needed.

I worked on security as part of a hobby, while integrating it in to my day job while engineering was my day job

I used my hobby to not only improve the companies posture in application and system security, but also to act as an advocate for others in the company to get interested in security, to make buy in easier, and increase understanding as to the importance of security, and the costs of ignoring it

Maybe use wordpress to simplify the process (just make sure its the latest version of wordpress)

HTML is for the front end (UI) css for styling, fonts, and consistency. Javascript for user interaction (creating buttons and other interactive features). Web hosting, using cloudflare or other webhosting services to get ur website running (youll also need to buy a domain name). And a CMS, like wordpress to make things easier.

Bit further than basic, but libraries like Vue, and its addons are really freakin cool for web dev, allowing for re-use of components, and distinct responsibilities throughout the site, and "easy" enrichment, if you have the APIs.. or even if you don't, even for a static site, they are very nice to work with and used pretty widely. React is probably more popular than Vue.. but I prefer Vue.

CCNA is Cisco's version of the Network+ which contains material specific to Cisco's products.
