Hey guys. I am interested in network engineering, never done anything like this in my life, and it seems like knowing a programming language is a must regardless with field I ended up getting in to. As far as I know Python is a good way to start but to learn any skill there needs to be a reason for it, like a project to work on to have a reason to learn the language instead of just learning it by itself.
The question I have is, would it be beneficial to start learning network engineering and over time hit a roadblock where I would be forced to learn Python, or is there a project I can pick for myself right from the start and use that to learn the language, without the need of having a lot of experience withing networking?

Or maybe I'm getting this whole thing backwards and there is a more efficient way someone could tell me how to approach getting into this field.

Hey any linux gurus can answer an odd one? So I was having issues using a kali vm for tryhackme rooms, not exactly sure why but it wouldn't allow me to use ssh or essentially any networking services. I use Linux ubuntu 24.04 as my main desktop and to combat the vm issues I just added the kali repo to my main system and am using my main desktop for rooms and all is well but I have run into the issue that the os is confused because theres multiple programs and dependencies in both repository's so when I use sudo apt upgrade it states I require 50 programs downgraded but they don't require downgrading and you hit yes and nothing happens and next time you use sudo apt upgrade same thing. I have done some research into it and the only 2 solutions I found were remove the kali repo and just install whats required through github. Or everytime I use sudo apt upgrade specify priority repo. Now im just curious if these are the only options? Is there another way I can satisfy the os to run both repos without always saying things need a downgrade when they don't.

Will say aswell im very new to linux, IT, cyber security in general so very good chance im f*****g up
